Stag Coffee in Cardiff

Certainly isn’t ‘temporarily closed’ as listed by Tripadvisor - its very much open as me and my family went there today - highly recommended too - lovely little cafe, great food and run by a lovely Argentinian couple

I went with my friend for a quick breakfast and it was absolutely delicious, very affordable and the couple who owned the place were super hospitable. Amazing customer service and vanilla milkshake! Will be going back for sure :)

I often used to pop in here for mid-morning coffee and pastry. And it was pretty good, besides it always nice to support independent businesses. However, I called in for a takeaway Flat White with oat milk and what i got, after a long wait was an Americano with soya. When the lady (eventually) passed me the cup it was massively over-sized for a flat white. My instincts were sadly correct. Horrible coffee slopping around in soya milk - i had to bin it. £3.20 down the tube. Ah well.... Won't be revisiting. After all is said and done, not getting a quality flat white is truly a First World problem. Might be an idea to properly train staff though.

Popped in with my daughter for a quick bite to eat. Didn't really know what to expect. They have a great menu, and it's a nice quirky little venue. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Can't wait to go back, and enjoy again with my wife. Top marks all round. Would highly recommend.

A recent family start up with amazing coffee, amazing food and brilliant service! Highly recommend!!

Dropped in for a coffee, nice cafe with lots of space and enjoyed one of the chocolate cookies - if the weather is good then there is also a garden space at the rear. Hoped for more choice of nibbles - but there was also a breakfast menu

The breakfast here was great. Fresh coffees, good menu variety however you couldn’t make amendments on the app so had to go back up to the desk anyway if you needed to change anything from standard on the menu

This is a great place for breakfast with really good quality bacon and sausages. Very well presented and a good menu. The only fault is with the app ordering, you cannot ask for your food to come without something.

Came for late breakfast (arrived about 11:50) we were told there would be a 25 min wait for food which is fine. Staff are friendly enough but you do have to order through a QR code. Not sure if there was something wrong with our order going through as the surrounding tables got their orders before us and they arrived after us. We waited almost 30 mins for our drinks and almost an hour for our food. It was busy but didn’t seem busy enough to take this long. Not sure the food is actually worth the wait. Wouldn’t come here if you’re looking for a quick breakfast. Also wouldn’t come here if you don’t want to sit outside.

Went to stag today after an Internet search, had a mini stag breaking, arrived quickly and would have been perfect if not stone cold with a uncooked fried egg. Service great coffee great. Sort out your chef Stag , and quickly.

Not a great experience considering the price. The vegan breakfast was ok, but nothing particularly special. That said, the scrambled tofu was bad. Really bad. A disgrace that soured the meal. Has anyone who works there actually tried it? Seriously guys, I’m not saying I could do any better but you owe it to yourselves to try. Also, where as the provision of ketchup sachets (as opposed to a bottle) is smart in the current climate, 4 is never enough but this could have been rectified had the obligatory “how is everything” check up actually happened. On a plus, my latte was excellent and The chap on the bar (big bushy beard) was genuinely exuberant with positivity and friendliness. Give him a pay rise.

We were in Cardiff for four mornings, we ate here on our first day and had to go back for our last. The service was friendly and relatively quick. We had sausage sandwiches, cooked breakfasts and the stag stack. All portions were hot, delicious and pretty big. The milkshakes were amazing too. Really well priced and you can park on the road free for an hour. Lots of cleaning going on between customers and spacious inside and out. Will definitely be going back when returning to Cardiff. Highly recommend.

Fantastic bacon sarnies and husband enjoyed the breakfast stack. Good quality food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing coffee - will definitely be returning when in this area.

Veggie breakfast here is incredible. Has cured my hangovers on multiple occasions. Coffee is also divine, the latte was 10/10. Delicious.

Fuimos por la hamburguesa del desayuno, que era enorme y venía con papas fritas de las que no me había dado cuenta, todo sabía muy bien, pero en el futuro lo pediría solo sin papas fritas ya que no podría terminarlo todo. ¡El café de hielo aquí también es genial! Trudged the streets and came across this welcoming eatery. Had a fabulous breakfast, best flat white and then set on our journey back to Dorset, thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommend.

Embarrassingly I fell down the step when I entered the cafe, but the friendly staff made light of it and soon put me at my ease. The gingerbread latte was lovely, as was the carrot cake I had with it.

Used to live next door to this place and I could not get enough, would always recommend the delicious stag burger! I also had an incredible rainbow sponge for pride once. Amazing food and friendly service always, 10/10!

Absolutely love this place, friend introduced me to it, now, whenever someone comes to visit me in Cardiff, this is our first stop.Staff are genuinely kind and warm to everyone who comes in and it's a very inclusive environment with LGBTQ+ banners, though it's not intrusive, it's just a really chill place.I shall be returning again soon.

This lovely little place is a must visit if you’re looking for a quirky place for some tasty food! The burgers are great, the meat is of good quality and was cooked to perfection, served in a lovely bun with crispy fries - priced reasonably too. I also visited here on a previous occasion and ordered the breakfast stack burger and it was to die for - one of the nicest breakfasts I’ve ever had and I will definitely be coming back to get it again! The ice latte was also delicious and they have various different dairy alternatives on offer. All the food is served and presented in a unique way and the staff are really friendly and accommodating, with food service time not being long at all. Don’t be fooled as the place is bigger than it looks, with plenty of seating available both outside and inside in a well decorated, homely environment. Worth a try as you won’t be disappointed!

We enjoyed a hearty, well cooked and reasonably priced breakfast on Sunday morning. The additional quirky outdoor seating area was comfortable and sheltered us from the rain as we ate!

I had breakfast in this quaint cafe for the first time and I was very impressed. I didn't have to wait that long for the food and the service was very welcoming! I will be coming back!

Really like this place. It’s my breakfast cafe of choice at the moment as the staff is lovely and the food (no matter what they decide to call it on the menu) is amazing.

As a pet owner, it was difficult to find a dog-friendly place - local to me - which fitted what I was looking for.....until I found Stag!

I love stag coffee and whenever I get to Cardiff must visit here. Their food is fantastic, staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some great food in a lovely environment!

Quite expensive for what it is and not as good as some other local establishments. Disappointed as went here based on other reviews.

Stopped by with family (party of 4) for food and coffees then noticed a pretty offensive item on the menu. Turns out they're engaged in some political spat with someone. Whatever, I'm out with my family and don't want to eat somewhere that uses mayo to suggest semen. We left kinda disgusted and went to town for food instead.

Visited for lunch after seeing the great response to a less than tolerant review on Tripadvisor. It’s nice to see a bit of diversity and tongue in cheek humour. The food was lovely and we could fault the staff. Keep up the great work 🌈

Quite simply the best breakfast in Cardiff, since moving to the area a year or so ago I have visited the restaurant with various friends and family members and all have been impressed with the quality of the food. Lovely little sunny garden out the back to enjoy the amazing food.

Love they have a LGBT sandwich to celebrate pride month 🌈 Let’s 100% support this business, highly recommended!

I've been here a few times and love everything about stag, from the yummy coffee and cakes to the great outdoor seating area. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere chilled.

Always loved the place and the service, have visited regularly and never felt the need to review before but just leaving 5 stars because of the absolutely pathetic loser below me.

Came here for a very hungover breakfast with my two gal pals. Really enjoyed the vegan breakfast and changed my order to GF toast :)

1st time at Stag coffee, good atmosphere, highly recommended the food, however I was alone and sat outside as it was a sunny day, halfway through eating my meal I asked a member of staff directions to the bathroom, 5 minutes later I returned to find my table had been cleared and wiped, with just my bag under the desk... Would like to suggest to staff that cutlery left in a V shape on a plate means the person has not finished and to allow someone at least 5 minutes to go to the bathroom or preferably asking them if they have finished the meal they have paid for before removing it.

Always enjoy coming here. The atmosphere is great, the staff are welcoming and friendly. Lovely outdoor area to relax in. The food is always amazing! Highly recommend the cooked breakfast!

One of the best places to go for coffee, have a delicious cake (also vegan) or have a breakfast/lunch... With friends, family or alone... You can sit outside or inside - all place has so amazing atmosphere with little details

I have been here many times before, so was looking forward to coming in today with friends after being away for several months.

Pancakes with generous amount of scrambled eggs, thick slices of bacon. Also opted for extra sausage and egg washed down with English Breakfast Tea. Great way to start a Saturday morning. Excellent quality and friendly service. Get in early. We were first in at 9 and by the time we left at 10 it was rammed. Seems to be a student favourite. Most enjoyable.

I've been here a few times with friends and family and it's been fine, nice setting, good food, the owners are lovely but things are slipping over the last few visits.

Best sandwich (chicken with chipotle mayo) and green leaves on delicious bread with a side of perfectly crispy chips!

I love the breakfast, cakes and burgers here and it’s lovely to sit outside in the summer with the little blankets they provide. Only downside is the seating in the new dining room area this place could do with more space from high demand like expanding or opening another branch

The 50 minute wait for food would have been worth it, however the very large breakfast portion barely touched the sides by the time my stomach finished screaming at me. To the waiter who claimed “we are killing it bruv”, the only thing you were killing “bruv” was me,as I starved.

Accidental find but a really good one! Stopped to get breakfast on the way to an event. Cute & cosy place with a decent menu. The portions are generous and the food itself is really good.

Great cozy place. It’s quite small with limited seating in front, but with more seating at the back so don’t be put off if it looks full from outside. A super place for coffee - We had some great flat whites and a BLT with fries that was excellent

We went to Stag Coffee after Reading Wales Online- unfortunately the reviews of quality food were not accurate.

Stumbled across Stag looking for somewhere for brunch. Clearly quite a popular spot we had to wait a while for a table but staff where very friendly and kept us informed.

Greeted by a nice guy who said he could sit us in a couple of minutes , that’s all cool. All staff seemed really intense and loud. They were busy but came across stressful.

My daughter has been here a few times and said it was good, unfortunately not the day I went with my daughter we arrived about 2 it wasn’t busy, however we waited ages to be served for drinks and ages to be served for food and eventually gave up and left

Me and my family have been visiting stag coffee for years and when we visited a few weeks back we were pleased to see that they have opened up a new seating area.

Went on a Monday lunch time. As soon as we were seated we were asked what drinks we would like and we ordered pots of tea which arrived quickly. There was quite a wait for our burgers and chips to arrive. The chips on arrival were warm only and came served in a chipped enamel mug. My burger had chicken goujons, the bread crumb coating was a very dark brown and had a slight bitter taste (slightly burnt perhaps?). The burgers were served on a wooden platter with a serviette on it and then the burger was placed on top of the serviette. The base of the burger bun when cut stuck to the serviette and had to be peeled off the seviette. My wife had an ordinary burger which was acceptable. We asked for vinegar for the chips and this came in a bottle with no sprinkler, this making it difficult to put vinegar on the chips. The cost of burgers ranged from 7-25p to 8-50p. Total cost of a somewhat poor lunch was 20-25p. The ambiance of the restaurant could be better, the chairs looked as though they came from an old school and looked well worn. I wouldn't use this restaurant again. Maybe we should have just had coffee?

Came here today with my husband after reading the reviews and were highly impressed. We opted for the brunch and have to say this was faultless. We had two cappuccinos which were excellent, a full English breakfast and thick buttered toast and jam - nicest bread I’ve had. Lovely attentive service and comfortable sitting. Cost was extremely reasonable and the cakes at the till looked great although we were too full to get one this time. Great to see standards are high in a very competitive market. Free parking across the road for an hour was a great touch too.

Friendly, quick, beautiful food that exceeded expectations. Can't go wrong, menu good, and typical of a lot of menus in independent coffee places around the city. Caters for veg/vegan too. I liked it. I will be back.

My daughter and I called in to The Stag (06.07.2018) for lunch whilst in Cardiff and I discovered the most incredible posh fish fingers you could imagine.

Good range of different breakfast items ranging from granola and yogurt in a mason jar to a full English. Great homemade drinks would defo recommend

Saturday mornings my wife and I like to eat a good breakfast cooked by somebody else. Having read some good reviews I decided that we should ring the changes and go to Stag Coffee. I am delighted that we did so.

Came here after hearing good reviews but was really disappointed. The head waiter (?) was shouting across the restaurant all the time, throughout our visit, to waiters and fellow customers.

Conveniently located, my friends and I often go to the Stagg. Brunch is nice, not good enough to rave about and staff are usually very friendly. However, service has always been slow - today was exceptionally slow as we were waiting over an hour for some meals. Just a heads up, DO NOT order pancakes!! £6.95 for what looks like TWO shop bought mini pancakes and a handful of fruit, would of paid £3.00 maximum. My friend politely asked to return them and was offered some more pancakes to be added to the order which we thought was satisfactory, only to be confronted by the chef - who we later found out is a manager, Brad - who was extremely rude and told us to not return to the cafe if we did not like the food! I have never been treated like this before, we were mortified. A minor 10% discount was added even though the food was not eaten. Sadly we will never be returning. The coffee is very good, most of the waiters are nice but food is overpriced for the quality and quantity. Next time we'll stick to The Crowd.

Poor quality food and extremely rude staff. The chef who is apparently also a manger Brad, made me feel so uncomfortable and was extremely rude I will never be going back. The food service is very slow and on several visits have waited over an hour for food. Wouldn’t recommend anyone visit here if you want an enjoyable experience. So disappointed and felt bullied into paying for food I wasn’t happy with.

Popped in on a Wednesday lunch time and sat outside at the back. Nice little courtyard setting, plenty of seats. A very relaxed type of service, good breakfast/brunch menu. Gluten free and vegetarian options very good. Very studenty and busy with a relaxed vibe. My gluten free toast with avocado, crumbled feta and fried egg was lovely. Nice big strong mug of coffee £8.50.

Popped in again, first thing on Saturday morning with my better half. Slowly working our way through the breakfast menu. Great service, nothing is too much trouble for the crew. Great breakfasts, great value. Looking forward to returning soon.

Been to the stag a few times, different meal each time and always very pleased. Milkshakes are also amazing! Cool interior with a sweet garden out the back for when the weather is nice. Staff all very polite and friendly. Definitely a favourite of mine and worth a visit.

Went here last weekend to have a catch up with some friends, had the best vegetarian breakfast! The Glamorgan sausages are lovely! The staff are friendly and I enjoyed the quirky vibe! Will definitely be going again when I next visit Cardiff!

Popped in for a coffee before dining in a nearby restaurant as we had time to kill. Loved the atmosphere and decor and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The coffees were delicious and the food on the menu and cakes on the counter looked great so we’re planning a trip back for brunch soon to try them out!

My partner and I went here for food after a night out drinking, we've passed the place a couple of times and have always been intrigued so decided to give it a go... So glad we did!! Staff were very friendly, order taken quickly, not too long a wait for the food and it was delicious!! Seasoning was spot on!! Definitely will be going back!!!

We have been going there for a few years and it used to be fantastic, but the last couple of times has been very poor. Most of the staff have always been excellent, but one new member was particularly rude, telling us to move tables rather than asking politely. We waited nearly an hour for our food with no explanation and my breakfast was cold, but I was so hungry I didn’t send it back. Other tables around us were experiencing the same problems. We will not go back for a long time, very disappointing.

First choice to visit every time we are in Cardiff. All the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious, especially the Stag Breakfast, and the cakes. There are plenty of Vegetarian and Vegan options.

Heard a lot of good reviews about the food at Stag Coffee but was met with disappointment. A small group of friends and I went for brunch to celebrate a 21st birthday and ended up waiting 1hr30 for our food. We kept kindly asking when it would arrive but we were just told “it’s coming” every single time. When the food finally came, it was very cold. We were taking into consideration that there was probably only one waitor and recognised it was not his fault, however, when we asked if it was possible to get a discount, we were told to “Just get out. I don’t want your money.” I had never been so disrespected in a restaurant and I had never been told to leave because I was unsatisfied with my meal. Very disappointed and unimpressed with the service at Stag. Would not return.

Visited Stag Coffee last year and service took an age on a busy afternoon so this time we went shortly after opening and service was great. Our order was taken shortly after finding our table and our Breakfast Stacks were delivered swiftly - it’s definitely worth going before it gets busy!

A group of friend and myself went over for brunch to celebrate one of our friends 21st birthday. We had heard great reviews about the stag so we were really looking forward to it but instead we had the worst outing!

Visited the stag to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday. We placed our order, and waited 1hr and 30 mins for food. Upon arrival of the food, it was cold and the adjustments to the order were not made. I ordered avocado on toast, and realistically it should not take more than 20 mins to prepare along with other orders of the table. After presented the staff with our issues, there was no apology. As we had already been there for nearly 2 hrs, we were in a rush and chose to go to the till to pay expecting a discount, after the horrible service. The staff thought it would be ok to present us with a 10% discount, and then decided to query our judgment and lied about the order time and when the order came out, and proceeded to tell us it took 15 mins for the order to arrive. After telling the staff that this was clearly wrong, he took it upon himself to be rude and disrespectful to us by telling us to "Just leave, get out, I don't want your money". Now, we gave this staff member the benefit of the doubt, considering he was not the chef, but clearly he took our kindness for weakness after portraying horrible customer service skills. Honestly, I would NOT waste your time or money here... unless you have 5+ days to wait for food.

Came here for my friends birthday this morning, took around half an hour to take our order and another 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Food was cold by the time it came and when we made a complaint the manager was incredibly rude. The service was poor and we weren’t offered any sort of apology. Will definitely not be returning.

We come here quite often and we are never disappointed! The breakfast is YUMMY, gorgeous thick doorstop toast and great quality eggs etc and presentation! The service is fantastic the main guy not sure of his name but he’s super organised and friendly and will have you seated in no time, there’s often a queue for this place but it’s really worth the wait!

Been here a few times however with not high expectations. Once was a long wait on food and we didn't eat. Another was a wait for food' we are and it was not as special as expected. However the coffee here is amazing. And with the mentality that you're not going to eat anything out of the ordinary then it is still a good place. Staff are lovely.

A firm favourite eatery in Cardiff! Whether your're stopping for a quick, soul reviving cup of coffee or to tackle a good meal, you will not be disappointed. The menu options are varied and well priced for the superb quality and quantity of food. Special shoutout also to the friendly guys working there who manage the smooth running of the always buzzing cafe, but always take the time to make you feel more than welcome. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Unfortunately i am not local but spend nearly every weekend in Cardiff and have been searching for some time to find myself a decent breakfast! And then I came across Stag coffee - Quirky trendy little cafe with great fresh coffee friendly helpful staff and the best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time! None greasy good quality produce - presented and cooked well massive portions and the thickest bacon I’ve ever had! 10/10 really don’t think I’m going to find anywhere else in Cardiff who can compete!

Such a tasty breakfast with all the trimmings and the hot chocolates are to die for! Great service, friendly and smiley! At first we thought we'd have to sit outside as it was full but didn't realise they had a back room, perfect little space! Couldn't recommend it more!

We were introduced to The Stag by our student daughter and her friends. WOW what a fantastic place.No heirs or graces but the welcome and the food are both fantastic. Whether recovering from the night before or fancy a nice bit of good grub, this is the place. The Stag breakfast is HUGE but good value and their Fish Finger sandwich is MAHOOSIVE and Sooooo LUSH. It may not sound much but believe me simple food is just the job. B U T ... dont take our word for it just go and try it but be aware that it may be full as it is so popular .

Visited this morning for some breakfast, really lovely, trendy little coffee shop. Had a pot of tea which came in a Union Jack tea pot with a lush little house milk ceramic carton which was a great touch. I ordered the pancakes with syrup, bacon and scrambled egg and it was delicious!! Couldn’t fault the food or the service! 10/10 will definitely return!!

although the breakfast was quite nice, it was rather expensive, after being told i couldn't swap the black pudding for anything else, they just removed it from my dish altogether, the waiter was unhelpful and clearly didnt want to be there, he refused to get us any water despite it being almost a tenner for a fry up. The food took far too long to arrive, my friend ordered a chicken burger in a brioche bun and chicken strips on bread is what he got, he didn't send it back because it took around half an hour to come out in the first place.

First visit , shown to a seat squashed next to the pay desk , didn't realise there was another room at the back plus outside space which would have been perfect . Very friendly staff . Toast arrived pre buttered so it was soggy and not very hot , orange juice was awful as though it was a a concentrate that hadn't been diluted properly. Cooked breakfast was ok nothing to wow about . The atmosphere is very friendly but the food was disappointing .

As part of a group of 9 hen's we found Stag coffee on Sunday morning just before we all had to undertake long journeys back down south. Was seated out the back which was very nice with blankets on the benches if you felt a little chilly. Food was very good and we all found something nice to eat at a reasonable price. Would visit again if ever in the area.

Since the Gutsy Goose closed down we've been taking our Saturday newspaper and eating breakfast at Stag coffee. It's a great little restaurant with a nice buzzy feel. Breakfast is brilliant there's both a veggie and vegan breakfast choice and the meaty one is a belly buster of a feast. Well cooked,,superior ingredients great portions, good coffee and great service - it gets super busy on the weekends especially during term times when the students are around so best to try to avoid real busy times unless you can wait for a table. There is lots of seating inside and outside both in the front and back of the restaurant. Stag coffee has definitely set the bar against which we measure all other breakfasts (i.e it's the best!)

I loved the ginger beer and a burger --- excellent place to have a snack while your dog is at the groomer across the street. The place has a lovely gentleman's 'man cave" feel. I loved the chairs and tables. Great service. Nice friendly vibe. Super points for LGTB sandwich and being dog friendly!! <3
