Ate here three times whilst staying in Betws y coed on our recent holiday. This is a great place to eat with a good menu and friendly staff. We before Easter so the pub was quiet but if the pub is full inside there are lots of outside tables, most with heaters and undercover if the weather isn’t great.Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. You can also use their app which we did.Good for families

We absolutely loved our meal here! There is a QR code on the table which allows for easy ordering of food and easy bill sharing as you can order your own food to the table if you're in a group paying separately. The food was incredible and the service was extremely quick! Perfect atmosphere! I can't wait to return!

Friendly atmosphere, fast service for drinks and food. You cannot book a table for so it's arrive and pot luck which is a little bit of a nuisance when there's a larger group. Prices are a little higher than average for both food and drink. Had they had bookable tables I would have given 5/5, however I understand why they have this model. Food portions are good and is good quality for pub grub. We visited several times over a long weekend and didn't experience any problems. Good location with indoor and outdoor seating. Will certainly re-visit when next in the area.

After reading good reviews we thought this would be some top pub grub but we were very disappointed, pasta was average, superfood salad was just made up from ingredients from tins, jars or bags of salad & the ribs were the only half-decent thing we ordered. All lacked seasoning and taste. Will not be going back 🥺

Eaten here twice this week whilst staying in Betws y Coed. The outdoor heated seating area with its twinkly lights is lovely. Enjoyed a nice lunch, drinks are a bit expensive. Also ate inside in the evening, dog friendly which for us is a huge bonus. My husband said the lamb was superb.

Can't help thinking this place should somehow be so much better. Food quality and portions were average, prices higher than they should be, and service based on seemingly a group of disinterested waiters and waitresses. Reminded me of the food, pricing and service that you get a typical motorway services station.

I’ve eaten a few burgers in my time and on this occasion wish I had too!, We called in here one weekend on a wet dreary November day. It’s got a lovely feel to the place and the beer was really nice, we tried 2 different kinds. I had some nachos and husband had the burger. It was without doubt the best burger he had ever eaten. I tried a bite and it was delicious, juicy and very flavourful. I would drive miles to go back for one of these burgers. Wish I had ordered it too!,

Royal Oak Hotel, Betws y Coed. WOW well worth the wait out of lockdown even it was to eat outside. You have to queue (but not for long) as everyone has to give their name, mobile number, use the hand sanitiser and a wrist test temperature (is on the wall at the entrance) before you go in. Extremely well organised. Masked and Uniformed staff were very well mannered, helpful and kept their distance where necessary not just with the customers Covered seating area and more tables around the side and front entrance. Oh and the car park in front of the Royal Oak Hotel £2 and £1.50 for 2 hours in the hotel car park opposite the restaurant can be redeemed from reception. Prices, some were good and some expensive meals but not sure this is the time to judge prices. Excellent service and can recommend the chicken superfood salad with 3 pieces of chicken. Also great chips and sweet potato fries were yummy . Thank you for a lovely day in Betws y Coed it’s sooooo nice to be out and about.

Went to y stablau with my partner just for a quick bite to eat because previously we've been and its been excellent however this time not so much. The staff are dealing with the COVID restrictions really well considering the circumstances. We ordered a lasagne and chips was absolutely beautiful and the shandy and cider was very fresh and complimentary with the meal. After the meal I ordered a cheesecake described on the menu new York cheesecake homemade fudge and salted caramel sauce and cream really sounded tasty. Waited 20 minutes thought no problem because of the extra the staff have to go through, however another table who ordered their mains after me had them and I was still waiting for my pud. 30 minutes passed and I've already spoken to the young lad who takes the order, the one bringing the food over and also the host at the front to then be told "its being made for you now". 45 minutes pass and my pud arrives to have blueberries/blackcurrants on no sign of fudge or caramel called the waitress over to query this to then be told "oh we don't have that sorry". So immediately asked for a refund had it with a "sorry" maybe the team needs to learn how to handle situations better because this is clearly not good service and I left really disappointed and put a downer on my evening which is really sad because normally this establishment is fantastic.

Visited on Friday 13th as passing. We had not booked ( not normally necessary but I fully appreciate the need at the moment) but the seating area is now outside only ( I don't think there is any indoor service at the moment) under a fab marquee and it really is beautiful! I sent a pic to our son who thought we were at a wedding venue! Our details were taken and we checked in on the NHS App. The friendly waitress found a free table for us , took our temperature and then showed us to our table which was free for a couple of hours. The APP ordering from the table worked perfectly and quite frankly I think should continue once the Pandemic is history! There is more than the required distance between the tables and each has a heater. It is the first time we have ventured out to eat in the evening since March and it was great. We felt very safe. We will be back soon (but will book this time!) Thank you all on duty Friday evening. A great birthday treat for my hubbie.

Myself and my partner recently stayed at the Royal Oak on 11/11/2020 to celebrate my fiancées birthday. I have to say that even before our arrival the standards exceeded our expectations, I received a phone call on the morning or arrival confirming the booking and asking if we would like to make a reservation in the stables restaurant of which we did. We arrived at the Royal Oak at approximately 13:30 and we were aware this was to early to check in but went to reception to register for the car park. We were surprised to hear that our room was ready and we were able to check in immediately. First to note was that the covid regulations in place were fantastic providing hand sanitiser, taking temperatures on arrival and all staff were wearing appropriate PPE. We were given room 204 and were pleasantly surprised that again the room and decor exceeded expectations and the four poster bed was a nice touch. The room was very clean and tidy and had all basic amenities that would usually be expected. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel and had beautiful views of the opposing river running through the village. After some time walking around Betws Y Coed and relaxing in the room we made our way to the stables restaurant for our reservation and were met by a young lad who showed us to our table and asked if, take note, we were happy to order via the QR code or wether we would like a member of staff to take our order. We were happy to order through the QR code but unfortunately were unable to order the drinks we wanted and asked a lovely young lady who was more than willing to assist and take our order at the table. Unfortunately it was downhill from here when the young lad who seated us took over the show and made it clear that he was highly unprofessional and immature. He proceeded to prance around the bar area on his phone with his mask off and under his chin. Taking an educated guess I would say given his actions he was more interested in his phone and snapchat than he was in work or his professionalism. The table next to us then asked for his help due to struggling with using the QR code only to be informed the only way to order was using the app and in his words they had “obviously been doing it wrong”. Clearly this was not the case as we had literally just ordered via a member of staff, again the wonderful young lady stepped in and assisted in helping them to order. If his rude attitude towards customers wasn’t bad enough whilst at the bar area he proceeded to refer to the young lady waitress to her face that she was, in a cockney accent, a “f****** sl*g”. This could be heard by us from our table and there were many tables in a closer proximity to the bar than ours. I find this behaviour in a public facing hospitality role highly unprofessional and disrespectful. Banter is banter it’s healthy and I’m all for it, but it’s about knowing your audience. There’s also a time and place and this clearly isn’t it. By this point I was starting to get really annoyed and he was having a negative impact on the evening and trying to relax whilst celebrating my fiancées birthday. I didn’t think it could get much worse but it continued to do so, he entered the bar area and began play fighting and excessively cuddling the young man working behind the bar and the female waitress mentioned above. This not only goes agains all the covid19 advice and regulations but whilst doing so and jumping around the bar area in what can only be described as animal like behaviour he proceeded to knock some glasses off l causing a loud smashing sound echoing around the room followed by his cursing of “oh for f*** Sake”.If that wasn’t bad enough what happened next can only be described as criminal like derogative behaviour. A table he had earlier sat and offered a high chair too had proceeded to order food. unfortunately this was after the extremely early 19:30 last orders time in place and were advised of this and given an immediate refund. He then proceeded in view of customers to refer to them as “f****** sp*z’s” whilst crossing his arms and making a derogative gesture to identify somebody of a disabled, medical or mentally challenged capacity. I find this behaviour to be greatly upsetting and highly disrespectful. I was at this moment really starting to regret booking a table in the stables and by only 20:10 in the evening our night had been ruined and were preparing to return to our room to call it a night. As we were finishing our drinks to leave the young man again never failed to disappoint by informing his colleagues that the umbrellas on the outside tables, of which be observed being installed earlier in the day, were “f****** soaked”. He then made comment that it’s “another pointless investment, and still no pay rise”. I was so angry and frustrated at this moment that I informed my fiancée I was leaving as I couldn’t sit there and watch this shambolic behaviour or listen to this idiot any longer, I felt that if I didn’t leave now I might end up causing a scene myself by telling the young man exactly what I thought of his unprofessional, derogative and outright shambolic behaviour. I have to be quite honest and say that this ruined the night for us and spoiled what was planes to be a very enjoyable birthday celebration for my fiancées birthday. Finally I would just like to highlight that the food was great that the young lady and the other 2 young men working the evening were fantastic, very welcoming and respectful. But this was not enough to out way the negatives created by one individual and proceeded to end our evening earlier than expected and return to our room. I have to say that our experience at the Royal Oak including checking in, our room and breakfast the following morning were all fantastic but I we were highly disappointed by the behaviour of one individual of whom I don’t believe should be working in a public facing role. I really hope this matter is investigated and appropriate action taken against the individual in question.

As locals we are lucky to have this excellent place. 3 visits in 7 days to support their 50% off lockdown promo. Considering they have recruited a lot of new staff recently, the service was fast, efficient and very friendly. We love to sit outside under a heater in all weathers, and we felt Covid-safe as it was very well organised including temperature checks and track and trace on entry. The menu is a cross section of pub classics with the addition of 2 excellent curries and 5 veggie options. The quality of ingredients is very high, with many being sourced from local farms, butchers and deli's, and our home made Lasagne was a superb dish finished off with a cheese topping, plus top quality Scampi and chips. Next visit we had a really tangy Welsh rarebit on local bread served with a very fresh salad, followed by gooey warm chocolate cake with local double cream. Wine list is shortened to 3 reds and 3 whites, the NZ Sauvy Blanc is good but expensive at £9 a large glass, and the Tempranillo was a good match with the Lasagne. It's very busy so recommend to book especially for lunch and dinner peak times.

This place is very organised (for Covid) and there are a large number of efficient, polite and helpful staff BUT the prices are very high and I was unlucky enough to have been given a seat at table 3 close to the bar where the ventilation was pumping through fag smoke (I think from a staff room because every so often there was a smell of melted cheese!.) The food observed seemed to be freshly cooked and pleasant enough with several dishes available without chips. I just had two beers, Clogwyn Gold from the Conwy brewery which was fine but I nearly choked on it at £4.10 a pint! It is usually £3.30 in hostelries on the coast.

10 minute wait in the queue on a Monday night, seated outdoors and was allowed to move to a table with a heater on request when it became available. I had a Thai curry which was very tasty and the husband had chicken and chips which looked nice. Massive side portion of coleslaw. No issues with the food or service at all. Very good contactless payment and prompt after ordering food.My only issue is the weird 'face coverings' most staff were wearing. They almost looked like a little headset and the microphone area in front of the face was a small piece of plastic, I guess designed to catch droplets (which it did and you saw them slip off onto the ground). (Called a mouth shield which you can see on google). As an NHS worker, these 'coverings' are completely useless and if anyone sneezed/cough the air and most droplets would still go everywhere. I cannot emphasise how ridiculous they were and they do not cover the nose so ?are they even legal. This would put me off eating here again.

We decided to try here, having not made a reservation for the evening (which I highly recommend you do when visiting betws!). We queued for a table for around 10 minutes and were seated outside- sadly our headlamp wasn't working but we had our coats on so not so bad. Y Stablau have a similar set up to Wetherspoons, order and pay at the bar, drinks and food brought to the table. The merlot was okay, not the best for the money paid but drinkable nonetheless. The menu was pretty simple burgers, pizza, chilli and we were a little gutted to see no steak on there, so we settled on 2 of the Welsh Burgers. Burger itself was really good quality beef, really well cooked. Bun was a little burnt for my liking but all in all a nice meal. Chips and coleslaw were both nice and I'm pretty sure homemade. We watched staff super clean the tables and seats once vacated, they were extremely thorough, the best I’ve seen in any establishment recently, we felt very safe. The organisation of a one way system to the bar to order was well thought out and stress free. Now the food - yum, yum, yum I had the sticky chilli fillet steak, wow I loved it so much I ordered it on all 3 nights, this I have never ever done before. So on arrival, we had to queue to get in (about 25 minutes) ok not a problem must be taking things seriously with COVID, got to the front of the queue track and trace and temperatures taken, was then shown to a table inside, well we sat down the table and seats were rancid, we queued again to order our food and drink, order taken by a very abrupt unhelpful and unfriendly bar man, drinks were brought over in dirty glasses food was surprisingly ok but that’s about it, the place felt dirty we at some of our food didn’t finish our drinks and left. I honestly felt they should take your temperature on your way out not in!!!!

We were in Betws-y-Coed over the August bank holiday weekend and visited Y Stablau twice during our stay. The 1st time we just had a couple of drinks sat outside in the nice beer garden and the 2nd time we had an evening meal. As it was Friday night we had to queue for about 55 minutes to get in, which was ok as we got chatting to people in the queue and were under shelter. Once we got in, service was quick and the food was great, the burger I had is one of the best I've ever had!! Would definitely recommend!

Went for dinner tonight (31 Aug) at Y Stablau. We had no booking and on last night of eating cheap weren’t sure what to expect. There was a queue yes. But it moved quickly enough. It was so well organised. I mean seriously others would do well to pay attention to how they are doing it. Brilliant spacing and screens in place, well managed and friendly reception on arrival and seamless service from a young, polite and hardworking staff team. In addition, we’ve been going to this place for several years now and the foods always been perfectly acceptable but tonight it was genuinely delicious. We had the chilli fillet steak and salmon with noodles. Flipping lovely. A really great way to round off our holiday. Thank you!

This gets really busy, which is more a reflection on the low standard of restaurants in Betws-y-coed rather than the exceptional standard of this one. This is traditional pub food. They cater for children and sell ales and wines. The food is good but nothing special. Imagine an average-to-decent pub lunch and this is it.

We didn't have to book but joined a long queue. We didn't have too wait long. We were seated outside. This would be ideal on a sunny day. Some of the tables have heaters which is good. Ours didn't, but we soon moved to one with a heater as soon as it became available.I had Sticky Chilli Fillet Steak, pak choi, sesame seeds & steamed rice. This was very tasty. The rice was fluffy and cooked to perfection. The steak was a bit dry but maybe it is meant to be like that to contrast with the fresh vegetables. My son had Hawaii pizza. This was really good too.At the start of the meal, we were asked if we needed anything else. My son asked for garlic sauce. The waiter advised that they don't have it. A few minutes later, he advised that they will be making it from scratch. We thought this was a really nice thing to do!

They saved our lives with their meals and drinks. We have arrived in the evening, stayed at Royal Oak hotel, (next door), during travel in Snowdonia, at the Pandemic time, in July, and “Y Stablau - Stables Bar” was the only available dining area in the Betws y Coed village at that time. So, we were very grateful for their decent meals and drinks. We also enjoyed the lunch next day.Important: Book a table ahead or be prepared to wait In the queue. There are also options for take away.

Walked past this restaurant many times and noticed the queue outside so decided to give it a go. Queue was around the corner but the man in front of me said he had eaten there the night before and it was good. The queue moved quickly and we were seated outside quickly and efficiently (even took our temperature) . Layout of the restraint was good with the social distancing screens between tables well despised with planters etc so all felt very normal but very safe. Ordering was easy (one way system to order at the bar) and when the food arrived it was really was worth the wait to get in, the fish and chips had a real home made feel with fresh tats sauce, the spicy burger was meaty and succulent with s nice kick, the penne pasta with bacon was really tasty and the pizza was thin and crispy.Compared to some of the other places we tried in the village this was streets aheadEven if there is a cue I would still recommend you join and enjoy a great meal.

Queue moved quickly and well worth the wait.) Temperature taken on entry. Hand Sanitiser stations. One way system in place. Tables well spaced and Perspex screens where needed. But done on stands with a few plants etc so felt very natural and not clinical. Highly recommend.

We normally come here for a drink and some lunch, as we only live 20 minutes away. But today (Saturday 28th) we thought we'd come for breakfast. On arrival the weather conditions had turned so we were all under this gazebo waiting for the watch to turn half past. As the clock had gone past you could still see the staff stood inside peaking out the window. Anyway, we sat down no real signs as to which way to go into the building. Not realising until id walked in that is just walked through the entrance door. The breakfast is £10 which includes one sausage, one bacon, hash brown, egg, mushrooms, beans and a tomato. So on ordering I quiried with the guy does it come with toast, his reply yes it does. So I asked if we can order extra hashbrowns and mushrooms on both aswell as toast. So you could see him writing the order on the till. Drinks were ordered too, a coffee and a diet coke. The gentlemen responded saying drinks will be brought to the table. A couple of minutes after sitting down food was brought to the table. Still waiting for the drinks. We also saw that the extras we'd asked for hadnt arrived with the meal too. Now we were the second set of people to arrive here and both us and the first lot had food delivered before drinks. So when a staff member came past we asked about our drinks and also the extras wed ordered. She responded drinks will be on their way and toast is extra but your mushrooms and hashbrown are on there way. She left the table. The manager then came over and basically stated we hadn't ordered extra. This had been told to us when pretty much we'd nearly finished. And still our drinks had only just arrived. The drinks took so long to arrive our plates were pretty much empty and the coffee was stone cold. For ten pound for a breakfast you'd expect a lot better quality food, maybe local ingredients but you could tell from the food given to us that itd been pre cooked. Answering the question why itd areived so quickly and the drinks hadn't.I would of complained about the coffee but the experience we had this morning was so dreadful I just wanted to leave. The service from start to finish was just awful.

This is the only place where you can just go and queue up, no booking of tables. It does also mean that you can be waiting a while but that’s ok. Really nice food, reasonably priced. Typical pub food, but all fresh and a good selection. Would of eaten here every night if I had the choice! Your temperature is taken at the door, screens are in place throughout as well as a 1 way system. You order your food at the bar and then it’s delivered to your table

Popped in this morning as always seen ques for this place. Beautiful location. Great seating area. And wonderful staff. But the food was sub standard. I've had better from a burger van. The Welsh breakfast was £10. You got one egg. One sausage. One hashbrown small amount of beans and a bit of black pudding. I wouldn't of actually minded the portion size had the food been quality. However it was obvious the sausage was a cheap frozen one propably bought in a bag of 50 and the same with the hashbrown. I expected nice local produce for that amount

The toilets are lovely and well kept. We ended up having a dessert as it was weds so all food discounted Mon, Tues and weds throughout. We both had the new York cheesecake, it was super nice!! This was my families first lunch/meal out since covid. We chose Y Stablau as it is local to us and have enjoyed both the food and experience before. Considering the current circumstances, I was a bit sceptical about going out for food. The staff were very professional, checked that we had a booking (which we did); checked our temperature and showed us to our outside table. They were polite, friendly and the whole atmosphere was calming and chill. The food was excellent and liked the selection they had to offer on the menu. Loved the salmon sandwich and the homemade pizza. I really applaud the restaurant for its high level of social distancing, safety and protection during this current time and many other places should follow you as an example. In doing so, it’s made me comfortable enough to come back, to enjoy more great food and also to continue to support our local businesses.
