It was...OK. Food was pretty overpriced for what it was. Two starters, two mains and two drinks was around £75 😬 Service was OK, but not particularly friendly or welcoming. It's a shame as it's a perfectly situated pub in the Conwy area.

Based on the quality of food we couldn't justify the price. At the price charged you expect very high quality food but it was mediocre. Overall it didn't feel very welcoming and it was quite awkward with the lack of music.

Disappointing! We came here for dinner. We waited 15 minutes for drinks but we’re offered tap water to drink while we waited (woozy doo!). We waited over an hour for food despite plenty of empty tables. Service was so-so not really made to feel welcome. The food was average overall. Unappetising chips, nice mussels, Indian lamb koftas were dried up over cooked. We didn’t bother with desserts. For the price, I would expect much better. On the plus side, there is a nice ambience with diners spread out. Carpets are laid in most areas which deadens echoes so make a tranquil ambience. Looking at other reviews maybe we were unlucky…

Visited the Tal-y-Cafn for a nice meal and drink in the bar area. The food was bang average. I’ve had better food at weatherspoons and paid half the price. We have visited the bar a couple of times before but haven’t had food so thought we would try it and we will not be returning. We paid £100 for 2 meals and a couple drinks. We ordered starters which were £8/£9 each to only have 2 mouthfuls of burnt sausages with no sauce which is what it states on the menu. For main course we both had a burger. The beef burger was a good size but the meat was not butcher style meat and was definitely frozen. For the price of £22 I would have expected better quality. The chicken burger, also a good size, was over cooked. The chicken was fried to an inch of its life. Although the portions were good, I would have preferred to have smaller portion but better quality food. Not one member of staff came to check if everything was okay with our meal and when ordering a second round of drinks, staff forgot and we waited a while for them to be brought over. The drinks were lovely, just a shame the young lad behind the bar that took our order was not welcoming or friendly in the slightest. Cold, blunt and looked like he didn’t want to be there made us feel uncomfortable. All of this is such a shame when the look of the place and the decor throughout is appealing and well done, just unfortunate that the staff and food quality doesn’t match the prices or standard that anyone should expect when paying for a service.

Very poor. Endured boeuf bourguignon with no boeuf that was basically nice chips and gravy (the 1 star was for the gravy). I asked where the veg was (it hadn't arrived) and the lad told me he thought the description referred to the veg in the stew. 'Three pieces of carrot? Surely not....' A few minutes later the lovely waitress (manager for the night) brought myself and the lady (also a bourguignon sufferer) next to me the veg in a bowl as they'd forgot to put it on the plate. Can only assume it was frozen as my cauliflower was so cold it made my teeth hurt. The couple next to me complained about their meal and the manageress followed the 'policy' of taking off 10% - £1.40 - and the price of one drink (the maximum she was allowed to remove). I won't be going back.

If you want vastly overpriced food with cheaper ingredients and slow service, this is the place for you! We went and paid stupid amounts of money for food that was clearly cheap ingredients. The £20+ burger I ordered was they cheap type that you get in supermarkets. It's really a shame because the pub looks great and the views are beautiful. Get your act together and stop profiteering.

So disappointed….we have been here before and it was always a nice place for food and atmosphere. Took some friends this weekend and it was awful. We left before our mains arrived because the starters were that bad…and after 2 hours of waiting the mains still hadn’t arrived. The kids food was burnt and inedible. Then we we expressed our concerns to the manager who argued the point and didn’t want to accept our frustration. So we decided it was time to leave. What a let down.

AMAZING and a big shout out to staff member Jess. We checked in for our stay extremely last minute as after a long 7hr drive we arrived at a holiday park and instantly checked out (that’s another story) After some panicking this was the first hotel we found in the location we wanted. I called and Jess answered, she was so accommodating and gave us the good news. There was space for 2 adults and 2 children :) We were shown to the Snowden studio which was sheer luxury. The attention to detail in the apartment was outstanding. It was clean and had everything we needed, even with the added bonus of a hot tub. It felt like home and made us very happy. After a long and stressful day it’s what we needed. Jess quickly made the room up for us while we had some drinks at the bar. She bent over backwards for us, the service was brilliant. It was the best nights sleep and waking up to a view of the mountains was something else. We had the added bonus of breakfast each morning which was included in the price. Breakfast was lovely and we had no complaints. The bar/restaurant is cosy, warm and has such good vibes, a real country feel to it. It’s a common theme throughout with its high standards. The location was perfect and is a short drive to the historic seaside towns. We stayed for 2 nights and I wish it could have been more, we even got a small discount on the room rate which helped us out after loosing all that money on a holiday village which we were glad to see the back of. We will deff visit again, outstanding is an understatement. Thank you to all the amazing staff who excel in customer service. Please book this gem of a hotel if you want a relaxing getaway.

On a positive note the staff were very friendly although the service was very slow. Unfortunately for the price we paid I was very disappointed with the food. My cheese and onion pie was luke warm and the cheese had congealed and was hard and inedible. The peas were also cold but the chips were red hot so I'm assuming my meal had been plated up and left until the chips were cooked. Another member of our party ordered fish and chips and the fish was massively overcooked and the batter was virtually black in one corner. It was also inedible. Another member of our party said her chicken was extremely dry. Overall the main courses were very disappointing.

Just visited the restaurant for lunch. Decor is modern but not cold. It is very dog friendly with sales of various types of dog food and treats so your dog will not be left out. However, the service was very slow and my wife had to get up to find someone when we wanted additional drinks. The waitress was nice but I think it was just understaffed or other staff were not supportive to her. My father in law chose well with the fish and chips, my wife ordered sea bass but missed that the menu stated it was served with lardons which the waitress kindly had the dish changed as my wife is pescatarian. Unfortunately, I chose lasagne, which is to be avoided as a third of it was inedible due to being so overcooked I couldn’t get a knife or fork into it, the rest was just dry. All three of us had a couple of drinks and just main course but for £95, frankly there are plenty of other pubs and restaurants in the area that care far more about the food served to their customers. To sum up, nice place but I won’t be returning.

Came here on good Friday, booking 3 adults one child, restaurant probably less than half full. What follows is hard to write as some members of staff were genuinely lovely and helpful, but overall it was a terrible experience for a place that has pretensions, but sorely let's itself down. We were sat down and a helpful waitress took our drinks order. I ordered a soda with lime, drink came without lime. It wasn't to be a one off. When we ordered 2 starters, we were kindly offered the childs main to arrive same time so he didn't have to wait. We waited and waited and eventually the starters arrived, without the childs main. When we chased it up it finally arrived - with the wrong side. After an hour we called a waitress over to enquire about our mains as we'd been in over an hour by this point. At this, the waitress looked annoyed at us, then told us she'd check what time we'd ordered. Apparently she didn't believe us? To make it worse when she checked the computer till nearby, she didn't come over and apologise. This wasn't even a busy restaurant and there appeared to be plenty staff. Mains arrived and, of course, the order was wrong. Now at this point things take a turn for the worse. She was told she'd ordered the last portion of beef, and when it arrived the gravy wasn't on the side. It was taken away and brought back apparently fresh a while later - so where did they get the beef? Was it rinsed and pit back on the plate? This is actually worrying as it indicates a worrying possibly vindictive approach to food hygiene. The meal was brought back apparently freshly cooked. The Yorkshire pudding had a layer of what I hope was cooking oil sloshing around in its base. I tried it and gagged. It was that awful. I'd love the cctv of me taking that mouthful. I kept it to myself, I didn't want to upset my parents any more. For a place that feels confident enough to charge over £50 for a steak, it was just appalling. These complaints were raised and some members of staff were brilliant, they were apologetic, a round of drinks and deserts were supplied, but all in, what can I say. We were in there nearly 3 hours. Orders were wrong, food was varying in quality, and whilst some staff members are professional and friendly, others need reminding that when someone says we've been waiting over an hour, it's traditional to say something along the lines of, "I'm really sorry let me look into this for you" not scowl and mutter about checking the exact time we ordered. It took others to apologise on her behalf. Basic stuff. Food quality and attention to detail was inconsistent at best... Really sorry to be writing this as it's very rare I one star a venue. I have tried to balance this with praise where praise due. There are some genuinely lovely members of staff who were apologetic and helpful. After a 3 hour lunch, we wearily made our way out.

She then said to me if I was staying at the hotel she could have booked for me which made me 100% feel that eating & drinking wasn’t enough to warrant a phone call which is outright insulting! So sadly although we looked through the lovely menus while enjoying drinks to come back tomorrow we won’t be and certainly won’t EVER be staying at the hotel! We have a party of 15 booked on Mother’s Day, we were greeted and seated promptly the place was packed. Such a great atmosphere. Our pre ordered food was on that table shortly after we were seated all delicious and main courses were amazing great portions, service was slick and attentive at all times. Definitely the place to be around here. We all had an amazing time Thanks to everyone

The food was some of the worst I have had in a long time - 8 of us in the party and not one of us had a good meal. In various dishes that we had the nacho was swimming in watered down guacamole and cold - the lamb hotpot was overcooked and far too salty the red cabbage had too much vinegar ..... the steak was like concrete and the sausage were burnt the staff in the main were inattentive and not interested. Will not recommend and will not revisit any time soon.

My mum and I came here today for mother's day lunch and it was excellent. We both had the topside of beef, which was very tender and accompanied by a fresh selection of perfectly cooked veg. I haven't been to the Tal Y Cafn for many years but was very impressed with it's current layout. The pub is warm, cosy and inviting and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I have a nut allergy and they catered for that without question. I am finding it difficult to understand the negative reviews. I would highly recommend the Tal Y Cafn and will definitely return some time.

I was treated today to lunch at the Tal y Cafn by my son for Mothers Day. We both opted for the roast beef Sunday lunch, which was excellent. Even though the place was very busy, we couldn’t fault the service and the staff were very polite and friendly. I have visited the Tal y Cafn on a few occasions and have never been disappointed with the food or the service I received. I would definitely recommend it to other people, and I will no doubt be returning there in the future

Awful food and service. With messed up food and orders we ended up eating courses at different times to each other. I have never seen such poor quality fish and chips, it was under cooked, wet and slimy. I sent it back as it was inedible. I should have been suspicious of the second attempt when the waiter said - it'll be a 5 min wait. The second fish and chips was the same. The person, who appears to be in charge came over and told me the fish was cooked, he told me the name of the fish and it should be like this. He declined to taste it though. He told me cod would be too expensive so they used this fish otherwise they would have to charge us a lot of money. They were charging £17 for this rubbish though. I suspect the fish is very cheap, and was cooked from frozen so although the batter was cooked and the right temperature achieved, the texture was like wet scrambled egg. To be fair I was offered another dish, I opted for the meat this time. By the time my meal arrived my family had finished their meals. Then there was a mix up with desserts. They brought the wrong dish and almost insisted we had it wrong. However, my son knew he ordered the banoffee waffle not the honeycomb cheesecake so we didn't accept it. We overheard the man in charge tell the waiters that he'd changed the computer ordering system for the mothers day menu so it didn't correspond to today's menu. Why, do that in the middle of the lunch orders. So again one of us had their dessert after the others finished their course. Tal y Cafn is off our dining list - we keep a log of everywhere we go!

Stopped here for a meal after a day out and was not disappointed. This is the second time I’ve been here and both times the staff have been so friendly and attentive. They are also extremely dog friendly which is a bonus. The waitress brought over a dog bowl and laid out a fluffy blanket for the dogs without me even asking- a lovely gesture for my nervous dogs. The food was gorgeous and the atmosphere was great too. Will definitely be back again- thank you!

The food was great but the service was awful Firstly, the staff's attentiveness was severely lacking throughout our meal. We had to repeatedly flag down servers to attend to our needs, including requesting the bill. It was frustrating to have to leave our table multiple times simply to get the attention of your staff. Furthermore, the inattentiveness of the staff extended beyond mere neglect; we observed them engaging in personal conversations, which were not only unprofessional but also disruptive to our dining experience. Specifically, we overheard discussions about milking cows, accompanied by graphic descriptions of bodily functions, including "pooing" and "pissing." Such topics are wholly inappropriate and off-putting for customers trying to enjoy their meals. Additionally, when our food was served, there was a lack of consideration for our preferences and needs. The staff failed to inquire if we required any additional condiments or if there was anything else they could assist us with, demonstrating a disregard for customer satisfaction and basic courtesy. Moreover, when we raised the issue of poor and slow service at the end of our meal, the staff member who inquired about our experience did not offer an apology. Instead, they simply responded with "okay" and walked away, without offering any remedy or addressing our concerns. As customers, we expect a certain level of professionalism and attentiveness when dining out, which unfortunately was sorely lacking during our visit to your establishment. It is disheartening to have such a negative experience, especially considering the reputation your restaurant presumably upholds.

City centre prices & mediocre food! Went for a Sunday lunch after having been out walking in the area. The restaurant was cold and the huge log burner fire wasn’t lit. We were sat next to other couples despite the restaurant being fairly empty so plenty of other tables to choose from. The prices are high for what you get, there was no beef so we went for turkey which felt processed (albeit plenty of it), the roasties seemed like frozen ones and the veg was simple and sparse. To top it off we were charged over £6 for a pint (£6.50 for a shandy!). The service was ok but on the whole the bill came to £84.90 for 2x two course roast dinners with two drinks each so the meal was definitely overpriced for the standard of food. We won’t be going back and definitely would not recommend.

I used to love this place. When first refurbished used to have a lovely Sunday dinner here. I Had a burger, my daughter had a 3 cheese sandwich. Bread was stale, 3 cheese didn’t stipulate it had Brie in but came with Brie which is not pleasant in a cold sandwich. The burger was ok… the actual patties were well cooked but too much sauce. It saturated the whole thing. Kids chicken was ok. Pint of Madri tasted off. The computer went down when we came to pay which meant they had to take the payment manually…adding the items and decided to give us the drinks free as couldn’t get the price list for them….as I was about to pay the system was back up and those “free” drinks were quickly added back onto the bill. Didn’t like that.

We stayed in the Snowdon Suite which was absolutely perfect for our family of 3 and our dog. The suite has its own kitchen which is well equipped with good quality appliances and all the kitchen equipment you could possibly need. The bathroom is beautiful with a lovely big bath and separate shower cubicle. The bed was super comfortable with quality cotton bed linen and plenty of pillows, we took a camp bed for our son and there was plenty of space for this in the bedroom with us meaning that we didn’t need to use the sofa bed and could keep this as a sofa. We loved the hot tub and huge balcony and the view of the hills is stunning. This area would be amazing in the warmer months. We had a number of meals in the pub, the food was great quality we cannot fault it. TYC chicken was a firm favourite for me. But everything we tried was great. All the staff were fabulous, attentive and polite and made sure we were well looked after. We’ll definitely be back for another visit in the future.

We do try and support our local businesses but tbh this was a huge disappointment we both ordered the Sunday Roast me the tri meat and my partner ordered the turkey it came on a Huge plate the meat was cold on both plates 1 roast potato 1 piece of cauliflower 1 carrot and a few red cabbages and 1 turnip and a very small dollop of mash, for £18.50 I expected a bit more veg left the place dissatisfied and to cap it all they over charged us on the main meal menu said £17 charged us. £18 how many other customers was charged the incorrect prices I wonder trading standards would have a field day here !!

We stopped overnight here with our camper van, and ate in the restaurant. The service from start to finish is exceptional, polite, good humoured and accommodating. We had our dog with us and she was totally spoiled. The food is excellent, on the pricey side for a pub but the full restaurant says it all. Excellent find and we would totally recommend this bar and restaurant.

Stopped in her for lunch on our walk to Conwy. Lovely restaurant and views. The food was mediocre if I'm honest and my wife's fish tacos were utterly tasteless. I guess you are paying for the views as the food is average to say the least based on our choices!

So sad that this bar remains closed - it’s difficult to understand why the reason given is “staff shortages”? Just pay them a decent wage and recover the cost on the drink prices! It’s a lovely spot to stop and have a nice cold beer on a sunny day.
