If you are looking for an outstanding Sunday carvery then look no further. How many times have you been for a carvery and been presented with grossly over cooked meat and flavourless vegetables? Not here. Melt in your mouth meat cooked to perfection and vegetables full of flavour. This is a place that cares about the food that it serves set in a lovely village pub that makes you feel welcome. Looking forward to many more meals here, worth every star.

Amazing local pub, great food, great beer, great atmosphere and very friendly staff and customers. Pure pleasure every time we went in either for a meal or just for a drink. On receipts it says "A proper pub" just below the Pub name. It certainly is, truly a proper pub.

We have just returned from an evening at St Mabyn Inn. My partner and I were so looking forward to a return visit to St Mabyn Inn. Our first visit was with my parents and we had a lovely evening sat in the bar with great food and service, unfortunately our return visit did not live up to this standard. On our arrival we entered the cosy and warm atmosphere of the bar and were greeted by the manager who told us we would be sat in the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant were friendly. We were seated around the corner by what can only be described as the canteen area this was such a disappointment for us both as the atmosphere was completely different, cold and uninviting. The waiting staff were friendly but we did feel rushed. We had our main meal but promptly left as we did not feel comfortable enough to stay. We would have probably stayed longer if we were sat in the bar with a better atmosphere. As we left we walked through the bar finding several tables empty which just rubbed salt in the wound. This is not a criticism against the staff or the food as both were outstanding. However, I would advise the St Mabyn Inn to make vast improvements on their restaurant area as there is such a contrast between the restaurant and the bar area and is the difference for patrons maybe staying longer for that extra drink. I would return to St Mabyn Inn but only for the cosy atmosphere of the bar.

Fantastic "proper country pub". Great welcome, great beer selection, fantastic hosts and made us feel as if we were in our local. Met some regulars and had some banter. The food is exceptional and the service was very attentive. We enjoyed Sunday carvery 10/10. Two of our children and partners joined us mid week in Chruchdown Cottages and also enjoyed two evening meals at the St Mabyn. Our family also awarded you 10/10 too. What a treat and somewhere we will be visiting again when back down from London. Well done to the owners, apologies for not noting your names but we really enjoyed the whole local pub vibe.

I was called by the inn to confirm a table, having had to email for a table as per website. At no time during this call was there a mention of a restricted menu and no mention on the website. On opening the door to the Inn it felt like the whole restaurant went silent and looked at us, very much like a horror movie, but it was just the atmosphere of the evening. All around us I heard complaints about a restricted menu and how long everything was taking, hence the dull atmosphere. Our experience was 15 minutes to get first drink and another 10 for our order, small apology about Tuesdays for restricted menu and we were lucky as most places don’t serve food that day. So our fault!!! My daughter’s food arrived with cheesy chips, that wasn’t on the menu. The chef said he does that occasionally, I asked why that dish and not ours, I was informed it could have been any dish. Wowza, didn’t believe a word of that, and only offered a free small coke for my daughter. Laughable experience, no lovely Cornwall hospitality for us.

We went here for a last minute Sunday Carvery, The food was lovely and the owner/manager was very friendly. Only criticism was that some of the veg was coated in what I think must have been a honey and mustard glaze (wholegrain Mustard perhaps?) it was a bit overpowering - would have prefered it without the mustard but that's just my preference. Small medium or large is how many slices of meat you want - which is unusual - but there was plenty of veg to fill the plate so not too much of an issue. We will come back to try the weekly menu as it's a lovely little pub.

My friends and I booked a table here on Saturday night, following a recommendation, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the steak, and it was beautifully cooked, followed by a very naughty but delicious sundae dessert. We later met Richard and his partner, the chef, who were both so lovely and kind. They have run this pub and restaurant for 10 years and going by the number of patrons in both the bar and restaurant, they have made it into a must-go-to location. Richard was especially kind and helped us out, going way above and beyond, with a warmth and generosity that shows what a lovely, thoughtful person he is. I would highly recommend you go there - I certainly intend to go back again.

We sat in the bar as we took the dog (who also could not have been made more welcome). The bar is traditional with lots of old signs around, the ambiance was wonderful. All three of us were more than happy with our dinner (1 fish & chips, 2 scampi) & puddings! The staff are extremely friendly & nothing is too much trouble. Since coming to Cornwall 5 years ago this has been our go to place of choice for events as a couple or with friends and family. The owners are very pleasant and professional and the staff are a joy who make us welcome every time we visit. Basically there are some good pubs and restaurants around but for us the standards we judge them by are always those of the Mabyn Inn The acceptance of well behaved dogs is wonderful and the relaxed atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. Highly recommended. The food is consistently of good quality and quantity.

It was cold and wet and thought this village pub, that we had visited before on a trip to Cornwall, would be the ideal place. A vegetarian tart and a burger were chosen. The tart was a goat cheese, red onion and courgette with fries (or chips ‘because we don’t do fries’ even though the menu says fries). We confirm the tart is made on the premises. The menu says don’t forget to order your ‘fries’ with your burger so we ordered some. Then we are told we don’t have goats cheese so we opt for Brie rather than blue. The Order arrives! Well the tart is awful, a puff pastry casing that wasn’t made on the premises full of a few pieces of red onion that taste of pickle as did the courgette. Also included are pieces of carrot that have obviously been pre cooked. The Brie is two thin slices plonked on the top. That’s it. Dry and horrible and certainly not a tart. The ‘fries’ have been cooked in old fat because they are really dark brown and haven’t been cooked all the way through. When we make a comment to the staff they say that she hasn’t seen it served like that before! The burger wasn’t pleasant either. Don’t bother eating at this place and we certainly won’t be back.

The bread selection £7.50 for four slices of bread, olive oil and few olives (brine) over priced.Mains, mine the seabass, was a small fillet on a selection of copped flavourless beef tomatoes and a caramelised sugar that was capable at bonding your mouth shut. The moules frites had grit/pearls in everyone, another dish with a risk of a dental bill. Fish and chips looked great and the batter was thin but it was soggy. There is a very limited menu, it does have a pie of the day, but it just happened to be chicken n leak, more dullness.

We had lunch at this lovely pub. The welcome was warm and friendly, the COVID set up left us feeling safe and the food was amazing! The pork with creamy cider sauce was so tasty and my other half said the sticky toffee pudding was very, very good.

Booked here last minute and wasn't disappointed. The waitress was amazing, so friendly, funny, confident and made us feel like we were regulars. The food was also so good. Bit limited on choice and I wasn't feeling a bigger but glad I had one as it was amazing. Would definitely go here again.

We came here on a rainy Thursday evening and although it was quite cold inside, the food more than made up for it and we left extremely happy. Between us we tried three of the starters and four of the mains and every single dish was incredible. Tastiest Thai food we'd had in a long long time and friendly staff to boot.

Lovely pub, good food.Visited on a Tuesday evening in September. A really lovely welcome, friendly and welcoming waitresses. One of whom had an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things St Mabyn Inn! Delicious food, very tasty and well presented. Lovely atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend for a good pub menu. Thank you very much.

Managed to get a table on the day, the staff were super helpful. Tables nicely distanced and super friendly staff. The food – and I cannot emphasise this enough – was special. If I could only eat the arancini balls for the rest of my life I'd be fine with that. The salt and pepper squid was also exceptional. If you get a table, do go. You'll love it. Oh, also the bread and butter pudding!

Me and my boyfriend both used to work here going back some years ago now and has been a delight coming back to visit. We had a lovely three course meal. Everything cooked to perfection. I had the chicken and Parma ham breast with sauté potatoes and veg with the most delicious cheese sauce. This isn’t your average pub food, it’s better. Great friendly staff and such a relaxing atmosphere.

This pub has a lovely character feel with stone walls, large fireplaces, inside well covered over with glass, etc The staff were very friendly and professional and didn’t have to wait long for food. The portions sizes are generous and food was fantastic so much so I booked again for a few day’s later where it was a thai night on a Sunday. The food was fantastic - all of it was tasty and fresh with a lot of flavour. My partner stated it was the best bread and pudding he has ever tasted. Great choices of ale - my favourite was tintagel harbour special ale. Would highly recommend and would definately eat here again - wish the pub was closer to home as we would be regulars but if we are ever in Cornwall again for our holiday this place would be on the top of my list.

A great find! Super friendly, efficient staff from booking over the phone to the end of our meal in this busy little gem. Food was excellent too, fresh & cooked to order-so I had no objections to being foretold that chicken dish would take 30 mins. It was worth the wait. A really lovely evening with super safe COVID restrictions etc in place.Smart loos too!

Took family who are down staying for a drink at about 1500hrs. Pub not overly busy. Went into pub and gentleman told us it was table service only and pointed out where the garden was. We went and sat. Another gentleman was clearing tables so was aware we were there. We sat for nearly twenty minutes and then two young ladies came into the garden carrying drinks (strange seeing as table service only). Still no one came to tske an order so we decided to leave for another pub where perhaps a welome included being served. As a Cornishman and resident in the area all my life i was embarrassed at if this was how 'visitors' are to be treated then maybe businesses such as this dont deserve anyone other than locals. No problem we left and had a nice drink with friendly service at the Borough Arms Bodmin. Although we live a few miles away from St.Mabyn not a pub i shall be recommending.

We set out to find a village pub in Cornwall and what a gem we found! Staff were welcoming despite being busy so we didn’t mind waiting a bit because our drinks order was promptly served. 1 Doom & 1 Bloody Mary. They were totally practicing safe rules for social distancing with a one way system which was a huge relief and also very happy that our dog Archie was welcome too.We ordered Mussels followed by Steak both delicious but I must say the steak was DEVINE, cooked to perfection ( and yes WOW to the mussels). It was my turn to drive so I enjoyed people watching for a bit and I cannot begin to say how hard working and genuinely friendly I observed the staff to be. A lovely lady called Lisa was serving our table for a while and then we were served by Maddy & Meghan with genuine smiles and charm.I just couldn’t fault such a lovely village pub and commend how hard I observed you working while we relaxed and had a lovely evening mid week,

On a Wednesday night popped in for a drink. Was told to wait in the garden to be served. 25 minutes later had to complain at the bar. Few staff very overworked, not their fault. What is a pub if you can’t get a pint in it. Wouldn’t set foot in the place again.

Pleased to have chanced upon this pub. They had it correct in respect of social distancing etc. Good but not excessive size portions and of good quality. Only downside was work was taking place on roof which took the edge off the experience.

The little I know about Cornwall is that petrol stations and good pubs/restaurants are like needles in a haystack, you really have to search for them. Having booked our accommodation locally (5 minute drive/30 min walk) we thought a meal at the local pub would be ideal, not with masses of expectation if I'm honest but enough to have a few beers and some grub. Little did we know when we rang in advance to reserve a table that that specific Sunday night just so happened to be 'thai night' - tell me more, I say. Cut a long story short, food was delicious, from what I gather one of their chefs is Thai themselves so food was on point, staff were very friendly and with my covid hat on, PPE and social distancing was adhered too. Will definitely be returning! Thanks st. Babyns!

We ended up eating here by accident, but as the food was good we returned the next day. The pub is set in the heart of the village a little way off the main road but with its reduced Covid-19 capacity worth booking as on both our visits they appeared to be full. Beers by Tintagel brewery were good as was the Rattler cider. Food choice felt reduced by coronavirus but the burgers, fish & chicken dishes we had all went down well and were reasonably priced (around the £12-£14 mark). Service a little on the slow side but not an issue as we were on holiday.

This was our first time at this lovely establishment, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We had food outside situated in the lovely beer garden where we were greeted by friendly staff that made us feel welcome. It was our first pub grub since lockdown and it was certainly worth the wait! The food was reasonably priced and the portions sizes were generous. Food itself tasted very fresh and delicious, we left stuffed! Drinks went down very quickly and thanks to really good service, not a moment to lose. We’ll certainly be returning soon :)

Found this delightful upstairs cafe by chance and had some of the best vegetarian food for a long time. We were made very welcome and chose the hummus bowl and roasted veg toasted sandwich. Both were excellent and very filling.

I've only ever called in for a beer but no complaints so far and staff are nice too. There's a big beer garden which is very useful for the kids and dogs.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
