We booked in advance and on arrival told it would be a 45 min wait for food. When we reminded them we had booked we were told we would be priority. Sadly that wasn’t our experience. After a long wait, starters arrived, then 1 hr 30 mins after ordering we asked about main course and got told it was being plated up. 10 mins later we were told our meals had been given to someone else when we enquired ☹️

We pitched up in their carpark in our motorhomes overnight on route to Chippin Norton, from the moment we arrived the landlord and landlady couldn't have been more welcoming, really friendly atmosphere a nice selection of draught ales and the food was really reasonably priced and absolutely amazing, we received a free starter something they're thinking of adding to their menu, we also received a portion of cheesecake too which was a really lovely gesture, I will highly recommend this pub it's certainly one to call in if your out and about in the area, I will also recommend using their large private carpark field for an overnight stop, we will certainly be coming here again in the not too distant future. Thanks guys from the Barnsley crew

We were just pottering about the countryside and went in on a whim for Sunday Lunch Friendly staff, fast service, smashing pub food. Its not a gastro pub and doesn't claim to be well worth the money

Tried this pub as it’s fairly local and we’ve never been before - friendly welcome and quickly seated in the restaurant. Nice open fire in main bar . The menu was rather limited in choice and the specials had run out but that happens. Overall good we ordered was excellent , the chips were probably the best we’ve ever had anywhere and it was hot. Drinks were good and service was excellent. Only a four star rating due to menu size otherwise I would definitely recommend it.

A warm welcome from staff and a roaring fire in each of the two main rooms. Lunch menu was very good value and the kitchen very accommodating.

Thought we'd pop in for a bite after visiting family locally. The place looks pleasant enough from the outside but we were very disappointed when we went inside. Full of drunks swearing. I appreciate it's a pub but at 1pm in a place that is meant to be family friendly, it's really inappropriate to be swearing loudly in front of children and unfortunately the staff did nothing. We'll try elsewhere on our next visit.

Popped in for a quick drink, both of our drinks were sub standard, diet coke flat, was going to have lunch but as it didn't seem very clean and drinks were bad, left.

Sunday lunch with my husband and dog, popped in on our way home from a weekend away. Hadn’t booked so please we were able to get in ok. We both had the beef roast which came with perfectly cooked meat, green beans, cauliflower, carrots , huge Yorkshire & roast potatoes which were the best I’ve had after my own 😊 oh and horseradish & gravy. Friendly staff and would definitely go again when in the area. Roasts are £12 for one course, plus a wine and a lager £31, bargain 👍

Popped into the pub one lunchtime on spec to see if we could find a bite to eat in these difficult times.Received a positive warm welcome and had a first class lunch. Moist Cajun chicken breast and real chips from actual potatoes! A seasonal Berry crumble with a buttery crunchy top. All complemented by a choice of good ales and cider. Deep joy. We will be back, Seriously recommend!

The best pepper sauce I’ve ever had. We’ve been here many times. I opted for rump steak and chips. Wow, it was perfect. The pepper sauce was out of this world. My boyfriend had cod and chips which he equally enjoyed. Harry and his staff are so welcoming. I can’t fault this place.

Called here a couple of days ago hoping for a nice lunch. I was very disappointed at the menu which had nothing at all for vegetarians. The point at which the local Fox Hunt arrived which the Pub clearly supports and encourages is when we left. I then had to try and explain to my 10 year old daughter that despite Fox hunting being illegal for the last 15 years in fact it still goes on. She cried herself to sleep on Saturday night. Thank you very much St Johns Arms.

I have to hail the beers as as well kept as anywhere I have ever drunk, and I work in a brewery! Fabulous ales - I'm not sure where the negative comments are coming from... in fact CAMRA agree with me as the pub has just entered the Good Beer Guide! Five star hygiene rating in the kitchen too, and good old-fashioned pub grub on the menu - cannot fault the pies or ham egg and chips. Lovely. Never had an issue.

Been to this pub this weekend and what can I say! 3 different ales on draft all off smelt and tasted like red wine however the land lord thinks their perfectly ok. The food, had cod and chips on fri night dry fish and chip over burnt, on sat had the gammon with chips and egg so gammon looked like it was cooked in a microwave and tasted horrible the chips where so burnt all that was left in the middle was oil when complaining the landlord offered a pint of his off beer. A friend had a steak that was terrible and tasted weird. I would avoid this pub like plague.I forgot to mention the Sam miguel wasn't good neither.

We were recommended the steak night at the St John's arms by a friend who regularly attends. We were not disappointed . All the usual fayre was on offer but we both chose the rib eye. It arrived on a large platter with chips, onion rings, mushrooms, peas and salad. Quite the plate full! The friendly waitress quickly fetched the sauces and mustards. The food was served pipping hot, cooked to the order (medium) and was really tasty. We shall be returning! Very good value as all the steaks are the same price on steak night.

A massive thank you to Harry, Gil and all of the staff for making us all feel so welcome and looking after us. We recently held our annual motorcycle owners club rally camping at the pub. The pub is a beautiful country pub with amazing gardens and views of the paddocks. The staff and locals are all very friendly & welcoming. It has such a lovely atmosphere. There is a great selection of beers, wines and spirits including an impressive alcohol free range for those who are driving and don't want a soft drink. They also stock gluten free ale & lager! The food is amazing! A big talking point of the weekend was the marmite & cheese sausages, the fantastic pies and the outstanding fillet steak. Sunday roast has a choice of 3 meats with all the trimmings and of course the puddings are fab! As a coeliac, I can absolutely confirm that you can safely eat here without worry, the staff know their stuff! It is absolutely worth a visit, you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to visit again soon.

We were spending the weekend shooting at Sporting Targets (5 miles away from the pub) The landlord allowed us to park our caravan for 2 nights and gave us an electric supply - no charge if we were eating in the pub. Glad we did as the food was freshly cooked and nicely done - large portions too. We had steak both nights and would recommend it. On the first night we arrived just before 9pm the landlord was happy to turn everything back on in the kitchen to cook for us which was very kind of him.We found the pub very friendly and sociable: welcoming to visitors, not just the localsWe plan to stay here again in the summer

Called in to this quaint pub by chance as we were passing by. We got chatting to the Landlord who is a very decent chap about the pub and found that he has been the new owner for only 3 months. Massive field out the back for events and club gatherings. 3 real nice ales on and kept well. Unfortunately no food on Mondays, so looks like we are just going to have to go back! The pub is 25 miles away from us but if you get good service, does it matter? Toilets were spotlessly clean (gents and ladies). Can't praise the owner enough!

Losa fuego!

We booked the St John's Arms for a Motorcycle Club rally for the whole weekend and when we visited before the event I was a bit apprehensive. The cars and customers looked a bit, well stuck up for want of a better phrase. Its a pub in the middle of nowhere with country folk as their client base.I couldnt have been more wrong! We walked into the pub in full bike gear and were greeted with a very warm welcome from Eamonn and Julie, our hosts. We chatted about what we would need for the weekend and then settled for a meal before we left. The food was amazing. Absolutely worth the trip out.Moving forward to the weekend event and Eamonn and Julie could not do enough for us. They set a separate bar menu for us which was fresh and tasty, not your normal take away foods. A good selection of Ale is served as well as lager and cider on tap. The locals were also very welcoming and the two groups mixed very well. Some even coming out to join us for the band on Saturday night. The pub doesn't usually open until 4pm but they opened for us for breakfast and made sure they were there for when we wanted lunch too.I can not rate this place or our hosts highly enough, nothing is too much hassle for them. We have already booked the site for next year and really look forward to many visits between now and then.Hosts - 1st ClassVenue - 1st ClassFood - 1st ClassAtmosphere - 1st ClassThank you guys, see you soon.

I can only advise everyone local to give the food at the St Johns a try. We have eaten there many times since Eamonn and Julie took over and have never been disappointed. The food is excellent and superb value for money. Last Friday myself and my husband tried a steak each and enjoyed 2 big steaks with all the trimmings, had quite a few drinks on top and the total bill was less than 40 quid. The welcome is always warm and smokers will find the best shelter for miles around. The live music nights are also great fun. My only regret is that this pub is not in my village. Hey ho, can't have everything!

Eamonn and julie have recently taken over this amazing country pub. We were welcommed on a sunny Sunday to find it was obviously very popular, and they had settled in well. The service was excellent and food outstanding at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was relaxed but efficient with the home cooked food arriving promptly and steaming hot. Relaxed afterwards in the bar and then reluctantly had to go home. Can't wait to return, would be equally good in the winter next to the fire!

What a lovely gem of a pub. Very friendly pub in a lovely little Bedfordshire village! We were here today for a Sunday roast and after eating out at more expensive restaurants in the area and being disappointed by their high prices and average food, this was on another level, it was beautiful!! Everything was freshly cooked and home mad at a very reasonable price. Shall definitely be returning.😁

The staff were pleasant and the food was fine but oh so slow! From the time we arrived we were waiting at every stage. Waiting to be seated, there was no one in sight. Eventually we were shown to our seats and waited again for someone to take our order, waited again and, after being there over 30 minutes, our tea and coffee arrived, but no milk. The coffee was fine but the tea wasn’t hot, but drinkable as long as I drank it straight down. Another long wait for sandwiches and again a wait for cakes. I would have preferred everything to arrive at once so that I could decide how long to take to eat them. As it was we were there over 2 hours and I was bored. I would hate to be there if it was full as today less than half the tables were taken. Not the best experience of afternoon tea I’m afraid.

This place could be amazing but it is lacking atmosphere and the food is very ordinary. It needs a total overhaul. Everything feels dated and they need to look at other restaurants/brasseries in other area. It always seems half empty. Wouldn't go back again.

Stopped in for a tea, coffee and scone for the first time this weekend as we happened to drive past. It was all lovely and reasonably priced. However it is disappointing that a venue in such a prime countryside location doesn’t at least allow dogs inside somewhere. I imagine their foot traffic would increase substantially if dog walkers could come in for a post/pre walk refreshment.

Yeh good in here. Nice beers. Closed very early though (Sunday 6pm🤔). Is it a pub, or a pub in disguise? Either way, definitely worth a visit.
