An interesting cafe under a church in Edinburgh. The cafe has limited hours and is run by volunteer ladies of the community. Their scones are tasty, coffee and tea fresh and hot. Unfortunately, their cook was taking a well-deserved week off so there wasn't any soup or hot foods. But we enjoyed visiting the cafe and recommend you support them while in Edinburgh. They raise money for worth causes.

We found this cafe by accident while looking for somewhere to get a hot drink and get out of the rain. We didn't realise it was within the church. It's a lovely cheery place staffed with lovely people. The coffee was fab and we enjoyed our special scones of the day. They also do table service which is another plus. Total bill came to £10.50! 👍🏻

Church volunteers provide home-made meals. I ordered cauliflower cheese soup, cheese sandwich, and cheese scones. I had never eaten British home cooking before, but it was all delicious! Sandwiches are made after you order. The portions weren't too large so I was able to eat a lot of different things. I wanted to try the daily scones and cakes, but it was difficult to eat them all at once. This is a highly recommended restaurant in Edinburgh.

We wandered in while doing a walking tour and stumbled upon the cutest cafe run by the church. I’m not a particularly religious person and eschew evangelicalism, so given that, I felt totally comfortable. It was like having coffee and scones with your great aunt’s house while relaxing. They have a nice variety of lunch foods, though we had scones and drinks. The prices are cheaper than more coffee shops nearby and it’s a lot quieter with the low him of conversation from other small groups at the tables around the cafe! Would highly recommend!!

Early start from Aberdeen, so looking for somewhere in the George Street area for brunch/lunch that was quiet & would not be 'typical Edinburgh prices'. Saw the billboard on the church steps so thought I'd give it a go. Small but interesting menu, & sandwich prices not that much more than what you'd pay at a supermarket, but so much better - loads of filling & made to order. Lovely ladies (volunteers?) looking after customers, & everyone there was very friendly. The home baking looked delicious, so a return visit when I come back with a friend who just loves 'a cuppa & a fine piece' is a must.

The Croft Café operates daily during the week offering good value lunches and coffee/cakes and I have used this Café before for this. However, on this occasion, we had a Service in the Church for The Boys' Brigade, with food for the Boys afterwards in the café below.Peter, the chef, had prepared a simple but good menu of Burgers or Hot Dogs, which were well prepared and ready bang on cue for the 150 Boys after the Service. With the embellishments of Cheese/Tomatoes/salad or Mustard and Ketchup, the food was piping hot and spot on for the Boys appetites. Drinks and crisps were also available. The café made for a good venue for the Boys - enough space without being too crowded and rounded off a good night. Will return in future for lunch or coffee as a good value menu on offer and very central.

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁
