Words can’t truly describe how amazing every aspect of our dinner was. It was our last night in Edinburgh and we definitely ended our trip on a high note. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered from the A La Carte menu and from my lobster rolls starter to the cod main, it was like we were on an exquisite culinary journey which I did not want to end. Iulian, our waiter, was very helpful in answering any questions we had about our meals and Phil, the sommelier, kindly suggested wine pairings which were delightful to say the least. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about dining at Fhior, but the atmosphere was very unpretentious and welcoming. I will definitely return if ever in Edinburgh again. Chef Scott creates some amazing dishes! Talent like I’ve never experienced. Do yourself a favour and go if you have a chance!

Amazing food and wine with great service and a totally relaxed, unpretentious vibe. Besides the tasting menu, you can also order a la carte, share dishes, and otherwise organize your meal however it works for you. Drinks list is just as well curated as the wine and food...loved the Raasay gin and Arbikie Haar vodka.

I’m delayed in writing this review as it’s now October and we were there in May, but I feel I owe it to Fhior to post this. We were totally blown away. Went in not knowing what to expect, and wow! We had eaten at a 2-star Michelin the night before which paled in comparison to Fhior, and was three times the price. The food was exquisite - a wonderful blend of tastes, artfully displayed. So much thought and precision went into each dish, each was truly crafted. The pictures tell the story…. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We chose to do the wine pairings with our tasting menu and felt the somm did a very good job of pairing. We have recommended to friends who have also thoroughly enjoyed their experience. We can’t wait for the day we eat here again. (And I think Fhior means true).

We found this place via strong recommendation from our hotel. The service staff was amazing and there were 5 chefs including the owner himself and the menu was a seasonal collaboration between two guest chefs. We really wanted to love Fhior- unfortunately though the food tasted great, the portions were tiny- I almost walked away hungry after 7 courses. Additionally, we waited more than 30 minutes between some courses- while a leisurely meal can be nice, we finished each tiny portion in about 2 minutes and then sat staring at a blank wall feeling hungry for 30 minutes waiting for the next. It may have been an off night for pacing, but unfortunately it really made the experience less enjoyable.

We had the new degustation menu and it was absolutely delicious. Every course had lovely surprises of taste or texture - or both - and left us feeling comfortable. Great wine list, which suited us better than the matched wines - though they looked good too. The staff really made a critical contribution - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. We had the a la carte. It was ok. 2 of our 6 party were old and hard of hearing so my plea is if you have to make us listen to a hugely effusive description please don’t mumble and stand near the hard of hearing. If honest I would say the food was a little bland. Lamb wasn’t wonderful, Cod bland and no texture puddings, although the Cheeseand Onion pudding was very good. Sourdough bread at the start got universal thumbs up though. The phrase’ best ever bread’ was used.

Fhior was perfection from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. The service was impeccable and the food was innovative, light and yet with intense flavours. A unique flavour profile with each course and not a single drop in any of the elements of any dish. Coming from London, where we are overwhelmed with a choice of delicious restaurants, it was such a huge pleasure to find that same level of excitement and curiosity as a diner at Fhior. Cannot recommend this enough.

We enjoyed Fhior last year, and visited again. It does not disappoint, an experience to treasure. Had the 4 course tasting menu - beetroot magically turned into 3 different guises with prawn emulsion, mackerel caught that morning, rich duck confit with aubergine and apricot with a truly delicious rich sauce, and an intense strawberry sorbet with sweet cicely panna cotta (pale green and yummy). Completely wonderful food, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable front of house, calm and quiet ambience at lunch. We will be back next year. Just sorry we don't live in Edinburgh....

We had a splendid evening at Fhior. All staff was very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was relaxed, maybe also thanks to the unconventional 80s playlist :) We had the 10 course menu, which was a little too much for me, but I really wanted to taste all the dishes. Every dish was thoughtfully composed and arranged, a real fiest. I like the emphasis on local producers and ingredients, reminds me a bit of the Noma concept, but Scottish. I also enjoyed the Kintsugi repaired tableware, gives a nice touch. We didn't take the wine pairing as a new glass of wine with every course is quite a lot. 3-4 glasses along the menu were enough for us, it would be nice if there would be this option of a "reduced" pairing. Would definitely come again!

Each dish is imaginative, really skilfully prepared, looks incredible and tastes even better. All are made from seasonal ingredients at their freshest and like all taster menus are not huge but are immensely satisfying, you won't be hungry at the end. Service is excellent - really attentive without being claustrophobic, the wine list is superb with great by the glass options and it's well worth chatting to the sommelier for advice as he is excellent. There’s hardly anything I could fault on my experience dining at Fhior. The experience has been amazing throughout and deserving of a Michelin star. First of all, the food was amazing, the very essence of fine dining to the core. Each portion was tiny, designed to introduce new excitements on the palate. My partner and had a really fun time joking about it, that it was a very delicious potato fry, or that the resto only need to order a whole duck for the whole restaurant’s dining operation that evening, and more giggling moments about each dish story. In truth, we enjoyed every moment, each dish was really delicious and by course number 7, we were happily full. The service was lovely, attentive, and very courteous, the type of service we haven’t experience in a western restaurant in a long time (exceed London level). We saw that each server had to lead on introducing certain dish, abd they did really well for such complex descriptions! We received really nice courteous goodbye at the end of our meal which really finished the experience with a great big smile. I felt proud for booking Fhior for my partner’s 40th birthday. Atmosphere lastly was next to none. Again, very strong attention to detail. Tables were nicely spaced away from each other, giving a nice sense of privacy. The music was turned at the right volume and was really complementary to the food and to being in Scotland. Very simple decor but very high quality, we loved the little touch to having special knife for chopping few bits of duck (another chuckle for us). Another big plus was that unlike london restaurants, we were not hurried out after 2 hours allotment. Overall really a michelin star experience and zi would love to come back again!!!

What I also really liked were the various utensils and other tableware, that was really inspiring as well!! On other hand, I was really disappointed by the interior - the entrance area is still fine/ok, but the remaining rooms and furniture look rather ikea (very/bad) cheap ( guests at next table had similar opinion). Anyway - the gloriously looking and full flavour food can still distract the visitor from the rather below-average interior, come and enjoy!!!

Let me start by saying that this restaurant is a wonderful delight. We went to Edinburgh not knowing the city and picked a restaurant based on the menu alone. The descriptions of their menus if anything underplay what you will be served. I don’t mean they could improve their descriptions, I mean without looking arrogant how do you describe delicious food beautifully served? It is all here, depth of flavour, pretty presentations, good variety, attention to detail (by the staff), food you would not normally think you would like being a great surprise. How this does not have a Michelin star is curious as we have eaten in 2* which are not as good, maybe the critics had an off day. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and smile a lot, a sign that they are well treated. The sea bass and the lamb courses are too die for but the others are not far behind I just like sea bass and lamb especially so they really worked for me. Don’t go to Edinburgh without a visit but book ahead as they are busy, another good sign eh!

We had the 10 course option which was not cheap, the presentation of the food was nice but the taste did not live up to expectation and price point. When you go to a fine dining restaurant you expect a level of quality from the venue. If the food was out of this world exceptional, it could be brushed over but the tables and room were basic, the toilets were not far off a standard pub toilet. Unfortunately this did not live up to expectations.

The food was a sensation! The restaurant is very unimpressive from the outside, but inside a real surprise. You can choose between a 7 or 10 course menu, depending on the desire also with the accompanying wines. The kitchen uses mainly regional and seasonal ingredients, the presentation on the plate with each course a small work of art. The service is extremely friendly and courteous, the staff know their products, whether explaining the dishes or introducing the respective wine. You can tell that the team enjoys working here. Would come again at any time!

Fhior = truth in Gaelic, so here’s a very truthful review: Amazing four course (plus added extras!) tasting lunch menu for veggie and non veggie. Each course was sublime, using the best natural ingredients in a very imaginative yet authentic way. Exceptional service from a team very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the food they offer and who want to make your dining experience special. The anniversary card was a delightful surprise also. Thank you for making our day special. Absolutely worth a visit.

We chose the three course tasting and one of our party of four added the wine pairing. Our meal was excellent. The Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and was our table favorite. The bread course came with two butters; be sure and taste the brown butter. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and provided great recommendations for wines to enhance the food. Every staff member was friendly and worked hard to make our meal exceptional. We only wish we lived closer to Fhior to eat there regularly.

Food are very good , but the wine pairing is super good . They are not expensive wine but every wine goes so well with the food . Some of them blends out the salty taste , some of them brings out more of the taste of food / seasoning . Really really impressive with the sommelier!!!

Such an incredible lunch! We had the 7 course taster menu and every plate was absolutely delicious and a work of art. Food and service perfection. From the moment we booked our table, the staff were extremely attentive. We were slightly worried about having our 9 month old baby with us but everyone was so welcoming. There was even an email prior to our booking offering to prepare fresh pasta for our baby! We cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much for a spectacular dining experience!

We travelled for 4 days to Edinburgh and first thing we booked Fhior in April after seeing the chef on Great British Menu and choose for his concept and Scottish produce. We had an awesome experience with very welcoming and knowledgeable staff. The food was stellar, the turbot dish unforgettable. Wines were of high quality. Only minus was a loud group behind us, but this is not to blame on the restaurant at all. I don't know if its the strive, but I would expect Michelinstars for this in the near future. Keep up the great work! 5/5

We love Edinburgh, having visited on a couple of previous occasions. It is a city of immense history and charm. We had heard of Fhior from friends in Australia. It did not disappoint. Chef Scott's particular focus on local ingredients, sourced locally and further afield, combined in delicious and creative ways, with an excellent wine list, far surpassed our expectations. Combined with friendly and very knowledgeable staff (esp Phil and Florence) our dinner was truly excellent. If you have a love of fabulous dining, Fhior is a must. A wonderful evening at Fhior. The team were welcoming and provided a high end experience with more than the usual descriptions of the dishes. Phil, the head sommelier, gave an engaging presentation of the drinks pairings on each course and made sure the evening flowed in more than one sense of the word. Thank you Fhior for a wonderful and special evening - we hope to come back as the seasonal menu changes.

We booked the ten course tasting menu with wine matching at Fhior for our 20th wedding anniversary.  Our daughter joined us as she was starting at the University (not for the wine matching!) From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a very special evening.  The whole team were very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was relaxed and even an anniversary card was on the table from the team. The sommelier and all of the waiting staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the food and wine and the service was faultless but not intrusive. The food was outstanding.  The flavours, textures, aromas and presentation were sheer wizardry!  The best tasting menu we have experienced with superbly matched fantastic wines. The atmosphere, music, flavours and wines triggered so many very specific memories from the past 20 years of our marriage - a true testament of a very special place that stimulates and delights all of the senses! Thank you to the the whole team for a wonderful evening that we will always remember!

Disappointed not to be wowed by the tasting menu. Exceedingly small portions for each course, some of which were a confusion of flavours. The music in the restaurant was very loud and made it difficult to hear what our servers were saying about each course....

I would highly recommend Fhior for anyone who has food allergies/intolerances. I have several severe allergies (peanut, lentil, potato) and the staff were extremely accommodating with advance notice. Beautiful fresh ingredients and unique flavour combinations. It made for a fantastic worry-free night out!

We recently ordered a wedding cake for 50 people and it was delicious. We got victoria sponge and red velvet with a buttercream icing. They delivered the cake to our venue and decorated it with a lovely stand and some flowers provided by our florist. Great service and would highly recommend.

Walked in to try some of their fish and chips. We were seated properly for a table of two in the upstairs section, which is very nice. The fish and chips itself was on the oiler side so if you like earlier food, then this would definitely hit the spot otherwise Would say that it was all right. They did offer some sauces on the side chips however, if you’re not a chip, you could substitute in onion rings for an extra cost. for two people to orders, efficient chips and a drink. It came up to around 40 pounds so pricewise it was decent but still on the more expensive side for what you got.

I went for lunch on Friday with a friend and the food was amazing. The menu was a fixed price of £9 for 2 courses and £12 for 3 courses with a choice of 2 starters, 3 main courses and 2 deserts. The menu was designed by 2 students (Alisha and Robert) and it was excellent, we both could have quite happily had any of the options as they were all good options. As it happened, I had the Thai Coconut and vegetable soup for starter and friend had duck spring rolls. For mains we had homemade steak pie and crispy plaice and avocado salad (the 3rd option was gnocchi) and for desert we had Lemon tart with ice cream and Raspberry charlotte - everything was freshly made....everything even the bread that came with the starters. It was all excellent but I'd especially call out that it was possibly the best avocado salad I've tasted and the home made ice cream was also amazing. Well done to all the students you all worked so hard and served up an excellent lunch you all deserve A* grades. I'd also note that in town you could pay twice as much for the same food so I took the opportunity to tip well and would encourage others to do the same as it goes towards the students end of term night out. P.S. please don't share this review as word might start getting out about how good this place is. P.P.S I wish I'd taken more photo's but just remembered at desert and my photo's aren't at a great angle. You should go though as it was excellent.
