The food was absolutely amazing, but the service was kind of robotic / impersonal. It was our first time there and although we loved all the dishes, we won’t be rushing back, just because of the cold service. But if you’re in just for the food, then go for it

Delicious meal, attentive service; this team really went the extra mile. I sadly left the birthday card they gave me at the restaurant and didn’t realise until I was at the airport the following day.

We had the tasting menu with wine pairing, a whopping €650+ bill for the evening . The service is really excellent and the sommelier knowledgeable and interesting. Given this, I would have left happily even if the food was ordinary. Unfortunately I couldn’t manage to taste anything from the third course onwards, everything was so salty that borderlined on bitterness. I drank 4 large bottles of water during the meal. Even the desserts were salty, who would add salt to chocolate?! We booked this dinner one week in advance and we were so disappointed.

Disappointing! Half portions at full prices. Sounds creative but it doesn’t live up to the hype. Just as well they give you so much bread or I’d have left hungry. We ate from the a la carte menu but it felt like a series of snacks or a three course tasting menu. Eg. You get one scallop on a £18 starter and maybe 60 gram portion of cod for a £27 main. Both of these dishes were good however. The cheese dessert and lobster rolls are both the size of a typical prestarter snack and gone in two bites. Besides feeling a bit cheated you don’t actually have enough bites to develop the flavours which are no doubt complex and potentially interesting. The execution of the interesting sounding dishes didn’t fulfil my expectations. Eg. The venison tartare had very little meat and lots of other ingredients and spices that drowned out the venison. Similarly the cherry dessert didn’t feel like it complimented and enhanced the elaborate description. All a bit “shaved unicorn bones”. Yes I’m being harsh but this place charges real money and I came here for a special occasion.

We visited for the first time after hearing great reviews, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. While some dishes shone—particularly the fish, which was clearly their strength—others fell short. The lamb, which I believe was sous-vide, was disappointingly tough. Overall, we found the tasting menu to be underwhelming and expensive for what it was, though we do have fairly high standards. Service also left room for improvement. One server’s uniform had an unpleasant odor, which was distracting and filled the small room. Additionally, she referenced one of the dishes in a way that likened it to a family takeaway, which detracted from the fine dining experience. The pacing of the meal was another downside, with very long waits between courses. We ended up spending over four hours there, which became uncomfortable due to the less-than-ergonomic chairs. At times, it felt like the extended duration may have been a tactic to encourage more drink orders. Overall, while the fish dishes were nice, the experience as a whole left us disappointed. It’s unlikely we’ll return, given the many other options available at this price point.

Dined here for my wife’s 60th Birthday, and what a treat it was, with a Birthday card on the table to start. ( nice touch ) We booked well in advance and opted for the tasting menu. We had a fantastic evening with superb food and wine, and a brilliant mix of 80’s music playing in the background. Staff were really friendly and all the dishes were explained when they came out. We enjoyed all the dishes apart from one, which was actually the main one,but it wasn’t bad enough to complain about it,just not fully to our liking. To sum up, I would absolutely come here again if I ever revisit Edinburgh. This is a top eatery so what are you waiting for. Book it 👍

I cannot say enough amazing things about Fhior. Even before the meal, which to be honest has been the best I've had in Scotland (including my last visit in Scotland which involved a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant), they were nothing but kind and extremely accommodating. Due to a work emergency we requested a change in time - they were able to make it work beautifully. The decor is lovely. Simple, elegant, warm. The food was superb and gorgeously presented. Each wine pairing was spot on. There's no question the next go around Fhior will go from Michelin guide to Michelin star. I'll be back next time! Slainte.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed by our experience at Fhior. We had high expectations as the reviews have all been very positive. However, we thought the food really missed the mark. When we attended there was a guest chef and the menu offered was all seafood. We found most of the fish was not cooked well. Particularly, the squid spaghetti was chunky and chewy, and the squid ragu was underwhelming in flavour. The turbot was overcooked and rubbery. Throughout the meal, there was not a good balance of flavour and texture. I struggled to get through the full menu. The dessert courses were a step up from the mains, but overall, it was very disappointing. The sommelier had good knowledge and managed to do a great job pairing wines. The staff were very attentive and engaging. It was a shame they were let down by the food. Also, we thought the decor of the restaurant could do with improvement.

Words can’t truly describe how amazing every aspect of our dinner was. It was our last night in Edinburgh and we definitely ended our trip on a high note. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered from the A La Carte menu and from my lobster rolls starter to the cod main, it was like we were on an exquisite culinary journey which I did not want to end. Iulian, our waiter, was very helpful in answering any questions we had about our meals and Phil, the sommelier, kindly suggested wine pairings which were delightful to say the least. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about dining at Fhior, but the atmosphere was very unpretentious and welcoming. I will definitely return if ever in Edinburgh again. I’m delayed in writing this review as it’s now October and we were there in May, but I feel I owe it to Fhior to post this. We were totally blown away. Went in not knowing what to expect, and wow! We had eaten at a 2-star Michelin the night before which paled in comparison to Fhior, and was three times the price. The food was exquisite - a wonderful blend of tastes, artfully displayed. So much thought and precision went into each dish, each was truly crafted. The pictures tell the story…. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We chose to do the wine pairings with our tasting menu and felt the somm did a very good job of pairing. We have recommended to friends who have also thoroughly enjoyed their experience. We really wanted to love Fhior- unfortunately though the food tasted great, the portions were tiny- I almost walked away hungry after 7 courses. Additionally, we waited more than 30 minutes between some courses- while a leisurely meal can be nice, we finished each tiny portion in about 2 minutes and then sat staring at a blank wall feeling hungry for 30 minutes waiting for the next. It may have been an off night for pacing, but unfortunately it really made the experience less enjoyable.

We had the a la carte. It was ok. 2 of our 6 party were old and hard of hearing so my plea is if you have to make us listen to a hugely effusive description please don’t mumble and stand near the hard of hearing. If honest I would say the food was a little bland. Lamb wasn’t wonderful, Cod bland and no texture puddings, although the Cheeseand Onion pudding was very good. Sourdough bread at the start got universal thumbs up though. The phrase’ best ever bread’ was used.

We had a splendid evening at Fhior. All staff was very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was relaxed, maybe also thanks to the unconventional 80s playlist :) We had the 10 course menu, which was a little too much for me, but I really wanted to taste all the dishes. Every dish was thoughtfully composed and arranged, a real fiest. I like the emphasis on local producers and ingredients, reminds me a bit of the Noma concept, but Scottish. I also enjoyed the Kintsugi repaired tableware, gives a nice touch. We didn't take the wine pairing as a new glass of wine with every course is quite a lot. 3-4 glasses along the menu were enough for us, it would be nice if there would be this option of a "reduced" pairing. Would definitely come again!

There’s hardly anything I could fault on my experience dining at Fhior. The experience has been amazing throughout and deserving of a Michelin star. First of all, the food was amazing, the very essence of fine dining to the core. Each portion was tiny, designed to introduce new excitements on the palate. My partner and had a really fun time joking about it, that it was a very delicious potato fry, or that the resto only need to order a whole duck for the whole restaurant’s dining operation that evening, and more giggling moments about each dish story. In truth, we enjoyed every moment, each dish was really delicious and by course number 7, we were happily full. The service was lovely, attentive, and very courteous, the type of service we haven’t experience in a western restaurant in a long time (exceed London level). We saw that each server had to lead on introducing certain dish, abd they did really well for such complex descriptions! We received really nice courteous goodbye at the end of our meal which really finished the experience with a great big smile. I felt proud for booking Fhior for my partner’s 40th birthday. Atmosphere lastly was next to none. Again, very strong attention to detail. Tables were nicely spaced away from each other, giving a nice sense of privacy. The music was turned at the right volume and was really complementary to the food and to being in Scotland. Very simple decor but very high quality, we loved the little touch to having special knife for chopping few bits of duck (another chuckle for us). Another big plus was that unlike london restaurants, we were not hurried out after 2 hours allotment. Overall really a michelin star experience and zi would love to come back again!!!

Fantastic experience in an incredible restaurant with incredible staff. The 10 course tasting menu was an absolute delight! Would do it all again in a heartbeat, can't wait to see what's in store for this restaurant

Had a lovely anniversary meal at Fhior this month. Simple, scandi style, clean decor, relaxed, good tunes. Opted for 10 courses and paired wine. Big shout out to the Sommelier who was awesome and wine choices excellent. We liked the surprise element of the menu. As with any tasting menu, some dishes shone brighter than others, but all dishes were tasty. Sensible sized portions to allow you to make it to the end. The venison tartare, scallop toast, and rhubard & meadowsweet pre-desert where my favourites. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Happy to answer all my random Qs. Dealt with my husbands shellfish allergy without issue. Very pleasant celebratory dinner, and the wee card on the table was very thoughtful.

One of the best dining experiences we've ever had! The menu was fresh, exciting and well executed. It was amazing trying locally sourced and inspired food and learning about it from people that truly care. All staff were great, but our main waiter, Pete, was world-class. Pete made us feel so welcomed and explained everything perfectly. We even left with a list of suggestions of other places to go! The owners and staff have created something special here. A high level of skill, care and passion was evident in all parts. Would HIGHLY recommend for anyone visiting Edinburgh!

We had a spectacular meal at Fhior. Possibly one of our best ever! The food was delicious, fun and surprising. Great vibe - not stuffy/pretentious. It absolutely deserves a star.

We booked the tasting menu for a family celebration dinner (party of 7) in Nov '23. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had. The food was everything we expected and more. Great quality, great tastes and just the right portion sizes. Alongside this the restaurant has a great atmosphere - a good balance between being an eating experience without being too formal or pretentious. This is helped by the staff. We could not fault the staff - they were very responsive beforehand and really helped make the evening. Definitely recommend.

I booked Fhior recently to celebrate an occasion and I can safely say this was one of the best food experience we've had in Edinburgh. We went for the 4-course set lunch menu and it exceeded our expectations. I was initially slightly skeptical about the deer course, since I normally wouldn't have any meat that isn't well done, but it was simply delicious. They were kind enough to serve my pork well done when I asked. All the dishes were an unexpected and original combination of flavours. The service was 10/10, the place is tastefully decorated (loved the artsy puns on the walls) and the background music wasn't loud or bothersome. Will definitely be back and will definitely recommend.

Favourite restaurant for tasting menus in Edinburgh. Always delicious dishes that are fantastically put together, and leave full as a particularly big eater. The first place that comes to mind for an occasion.

Really excellent flavours, with nicely matched wines. The staff were well informed, friendly, and unobtrusive. Given my experience here, they easily deserve a Michelin star.

Very cute cafe, the service was super friendly and accommodating. I had the pumpkin toast, which was very tasty and something extraordinary. There are many interesting combinations on the menu that are something different. There is also a good selection for vegetarians.

A 15 minute walk from our Edinburgh hotel took us to Croall Place in Edinburgh’s end of Leith Walk. There a lovely little restaurant serves delicious and imaginative food. We were welcomed made to feel well at home and settled-in with glasses of Prmitivo rosé and can say we really enjoyed the meal presentation and taste of our Wallnut dishes.

Visited Edinburgh and stayed in Leith. We found this cafe and ate there a couple times. It was wonderful! The food was delicious. If you like very strong coffee this is the place to get it. I hope to visit again in the future. Highly recommended!

They have nice staff and lovely food orders. There’s good space for parents to bring their kids and I’ve mainly seen customers visit the place for a soup.
