Excellent espresso based coffee, the breakfast menu has to be sampled. Caters for all diets and needs. Friendly staff and service. As it is small, arriving early would be a good idea. Recommended

Just done a week in Edinburgh. Queen St shop directly opposite us so gave it a try. Ended up visiting that or the new Frederick St shop every morning for breakfast and multiple coffees. Food is amazing. Staff so friendly. No wonder its so popular even though its just out of Princes St area. Really recommend you visit as you won't be disappointed! Only improvements I would make are offering the croissants warm, cover them and the cakes up at Queen St as they are at Frederick, and all coffee is great but the barista at Queen St is better than Frederick 😊

everything was amazing. the food comes in a huge portion, enough to keep us walking through the city for hours. the service was really good. i love it!! Try the brie and blackberries toast, it was divine.

Good place to have a good coffee (very good flavor) they have all kinds of elaborate toasts, sweets... Of course, come with your sachet of saccharin or white sugar if you don't like brown sugar! It is like this in all places. I recommend!

The girls from Fortuna rock the house. The five of them made our visit a great breakfast experience. They were super friendly, laughed a lot, sang, had fun at work and were super fast. The food and coffee specialties were great, extremely tasty and also pleasing to the eye. A great team with a great offer. We'll be back when we're in town again. Really really good!!!

Microwaved eggs and bacon is not an acceptable business model. There is no proper kitchen, which you can tell by the standard of the food, so highly over priced. As a business you should disclose if you do not have a proper kitchen and adjust prices accordingly!

They’re as good as the reviews say. Lavender lattes, lots of vegan and gluten free options, and the owner really worked with me to create something actually off the menu so I could eat stuff with my dietary restrictions. Just a note: have signs everywhere no laptops when busy, which is highly volatile/could change always

Great cafe to grab a bit of breakfast and a coffee. The turmeric latte was excellent as was the butternut squash toast with pomegranate and feta! Laptops are allowed if it’s not too busy.

I had breakfast at Fortuna and it was exceptional! I ordered scrambled eggs on toast, cream cheese bagel, and brie and blackberry on toast—all dishes were very delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy. I definitely recommend stopping by!

My experience with them was excellent. I tried the tuna and it was delicious, the flat whites were excellent, and toast with eggs and cheese. I did not try it. It was for my husband. We took them to go. The girls in the coffee shop were very nice. I loved the place. I advise you to give them a try if you come to Edinburgh.

Fantastic little place for breakfast, smashing food and an awesome atmosphere.

We arrived and there was no place to sit, so we decided to wait and it didn't take long. The waitress was very helpful. The food was wonderful and so was the latte. Everything was very well prepared, the place was very clean. A small and cozy place, I would definitely go again.

I bought a matcha latte which was very nice don't get me wrong! However it was extremely expensive, £5.70 to be specific, for one regular sized matcha latte. I get it matcha is expensive but what I didn't appreciate was being charged extra for oat milk, when it's generally recommended with matcha AND if your lactose intolerant or simply prefer oat milk you have to pay more! For something that is already £4.70 having to pay a pound extra for ice and alternative milk is pretty ridiculous. So in conclusion it's tasty but overpriced even for a cafe in Edinburgh.

For a great breakfast experience in Edinburgh, Fortuna Coffee Bar is definitely a place to visit! The friendliness and hospitality of the ladies running the place create a warm atmosphere. Breakfast plates are carefully prepared, the flavors are fresh and satisfying. Especially their coffee is excellent! Although the prices are a little high, the quality service and friendly atmosphere more than compensate for this. It is a great stop to sip your morning coffee and have a pleasant start. It's a good idea to go early because it's a popular place and can fill up quickly. One of Edinburgh's best breakfast spots

Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese was amazing!

I liked most of all the ambience of this place. When I arrived for the breakfast early in the morning, I remarked that the staff of the coffee bar (a nice girly team) was in a very good mood, they had such a positive vibe. They were doing their job with pleasure. This is very important because, if the staff likes what it does, the client feels happy too. As for the food, it was fresh and the quality was preserved, but it depends on what you choose. I started with a hummus toast which was cold by default, probably not the best option for winter, and it was also kind of dry. I could not unfortunately finish it. The hazelnut toast was much better. The disappointing point is that they do not propose a freshly squeezed orange juice. But, on the other hand, here, the client does not have to leave the table one hour later, compared to other coffee bars in Edinburgh. With that being sad, Fortuna Coffee bar is worth it.

Bottom line: great breakfast! It a couple blocks away from princes street and you may be tempted to skip it since it’s off the main way. It’s worth the couple blocks detour. It’s fairly small, seating for maybe 20. The service is friendly and efficient. The food was delicious! The scrambled eggs were divine, moist, flavorful, pillowy. The banana nest was larger than I expected with a generous helping of yogurt, granola, fresh fruit and seeds. I loved it! The avocado toast had a large mound of avocado and the toast was perfect. Highly recommend a visit here.

Me and my partner visited over the Christmas period. The staff were welcoming, polite and friendly. Service was fast, food was incredibly delicious, healthy and perfect. The coffee was amazing. Couldn't recommend this cafe enough. It was busy and rightly so! The prices were spot on. Couldn't recommend this place enough and will be sure to visit again when I next venture to edinburgh thanks guys!

Crazy prices! Stay away Edit: The reason of leaving and asking for a takeaway was because it was a very expensive menu. We changed our mind after checking the menu, sorry I understand this doesn’t meet your expectations from a customer review but I suggest more reasonable pricing.

Had a lovely brunch at Fortuna; the ginger bread latte was amazing and the toast and bagels were fantastic. Service was super kind and they serve very generous portions - so you won't be hungry when you leave. Recommended!

Every now and again I’m in Edinburgh for work. I go here for breakfast. Their coffee is excellent and nothing beats their scrambled eggs on toast with avocado and salmon. Top notch!

Honestly the service here was amazing! I got my food in less than ten minutes and my coffee in 3?! What is this sorcery for a busy cafe! Great place if you’re a bit crunched for time. The food was also amazing and the coffee perfect. Highly recommend if you want a quick sit down brunch / lunch spot!

Cute small cosy cafe serving varieties of healthy open toasts, sandwiches, and Bagels. The coffee was excellent, I tried the hazelnut banana toast it was fresh and good quality ingredients. The prices are on the high side but expect big portions.

Cute little cafe slightly away from the busy High Street. They have a different type of menu from most cafes which enticed us in. The food was lovely and the staff were very hospitable. Two small issues were the fruit was not fresh but instead frozen, and like others have said the coffee is ok! It’s worth a visit though to try a different menu

GO! We absolutely LOVED Fortuna. We came to Edinburgh on our honeymoon and fell in love with this coffee shop (sad we found it later in our trip, honestly). The food is fantastic, the coffee is wonderful and the people working there are sweet, kind and so friendly. The avocado & hummus toast was £11 and the chai latte £4 and both well worth the money. You don’t get shorted on food! We highly recommend Fortuna for breakfast/brunch!!

A wonderful little home in the heart of Edi. The Cheese Toastie and all their diffrent types of tea is a wonderful walm hug in the winter months. All the staff were walm and attentive and don't mind a question or two. If your visiting Edi or just live across the road, come and feel at home in this little cafe!

I'm sorry for the bad review but the coffee was okey-ish, the bacon was very salty and too crispy, the bread was soaked in the bacon fat and the taste was overall nothing special. The person in the kitchen is a very loud individual which made the atmosphere rather unpleasant.

The food was amazing and I had lavender coffee for the first time (Latte with lavender syrup), it was sooo good. Definitely recommend. The girl who served us was very sweet.

The place was really cute and the people working there were nice. I had a takeaway order so a sit in experience might be different. I ordered and got my drink which wasn’t what I ordered and they were super kind about fixing that. When I got my food I took it to go to eat on the train and my toast was not as I’d ordered. It had cheese on it when I had ordered it stating no feta I have a dairy allergy. She also had repeated no feta back to me. I was disappointed to say the least since I couldn’t eat it and was then on a 2 hour train with no food. As someone with an allergy it’s always something I state clearly that there cannot be cheese.

What a nice surprise to find a small coffee shop that has amazing lunches! It's worth going for their coffee but check out their fruit bowl lunch. Tastes fresh & amazing! The employees are also friendly and helpful. It's tight inside with not many tables but, who knows, you might make a friend.

This was one of our short-listed breakfast spots to hit during our recent stay in Edinburgh. It was the first one on our list and it ended up being the best breakfast spot across our who 2-week trip. We ended up eating here for all three of our breakfasts in Edinburgh - it was that good! Every iteration of the toast we tried was fantastic. The chai lattes, flat whites, and americanos we got were all delicious too. To top it off, the staff was incredibly friendly and the space was quite cozy. If the weather is kind, sit outside on the street and enjoy a lovely start to your day here!
