We left Edinburgh's city center to visit the beach and found this place to grab two fish and chips and eat them at the beach. There were absolutely wonderful, very tasty and fresh. Golden Bite is a great place and the people there are wonderful. If you want something to eat at the beach stop there before to grab something, the experience is fantastic. We recommend!

Came in for a few portions of fish supper this evening, which were cooked fresh in front of us and were really delicious. Crispy batter, tasty fish and big portions. Staff are always so friendly and welcoming.

My first chippy shop in life, overall a great experience. Food was quite good, fish freshly fried and rather on the bigger side, but vinegar is a must! Chips with curry sauce were my mistake, sauce itself was really great, but it ruined the crispiness of traditional large cut chips. Haggis fritter was bloody delicious, a bit spicier than I expected but that's just the better! Atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, lady behind the counter really friendly. Overall great experience and alright prices. Would recommend

Best Fish Supper and the Pizza is excellent

Catching some fish and chips after a busy day out (on holiday) and I really wanted to love this place after seeing all the positive reviews, The couple (m running the shop (I presume husband and wife?) were genuinely so nice and friendly, and excellent communication about our order. And as others have said, fish is cooked to order and the haddock was really good. Batter was light, crispy and well seasoned and fish very fresh. Sadly, however, the chips really let the order down. If I could split my review I’d say 5* for the fish and 1* for the chips, hence an average of 3*. Hope I just caught them on an off day, and they continue to be great for everyone else.

During our stay in Edinburgh, we went twice to this nice takeaway restaurant. On the first evening we ordered fish ' chips and ate it on the beach. On the last day, we ended up here because we made reservations at the Espy but due to kitchen failure, we couldn't eat food there. The owner is really nice and talked to us and our little boy, even gave him some candy. Ordered funghi pizza and my husband a cheeseburger with fries. We both enjoyed our food!! Would highly recommend this place, very nice staff and good food for a good price.

The absolute sweetest couple runs this place and my questions were answered happily and thoroughly when I had them. Was looking for some good pepperoni pizza and I found it here. My partner and I left smiling and loving Portabello even more.

Had a few days away in Edinburgh so decided to go to Portobello Beach. While there we decided to have a takeaway Fish and Chips to eat on the front and found this remarkable place. The Haddock and chips were the best I have had in a long time and the couple who own the establishment were lovely, genuine people. Could not fault the Golden Bite at all and will certainly be back when next in Edinburgh.

Misschien niet de allerbeste patat bij de vis, maar wát zijn deze mensen aardig! Bij je Fish and Chips krijg je hier ook een goed gevoel cadeau, en dat alleen is al vijf sterren waard. Neem de vis in je kartonnen bakje mee en ga lekker bij/op het strand zitten om het op te eten.

Would definitely recommend going to the Golden Bite, only 10 mins from Portobello beach. It has great customer service and some real good food.

What nice people! We came to Portobello to try some fish and chips not knowing it would be such a blast. The owner and his wife were great and super friendly. And the food was just amazing. Golden Bite is a hidden gem on the high street. Do try it out.

Grundsolide Imbissbude mit Fish & Chips. Die Besitzer sind unglaublich nett und hilfsbereit. Das Essen ist gut aber eben typisch Imbiss. Perfekt um sich etwas zu holen und am Strand zu essen.

If you go to Portobello Beach, walk two minutes from the promenade and have the BEST fish and chips. Sweet couple run it. Beautiful tender large portion of fish. Made fresh to order. Reasonable price. Other items look good too, pizza, sausage, Grab it and go back to the beach. Don't miss it.

Great fish&chips, had to be tasty coming out of so friendly kitchen! Family atmosphere from the owner and his daughter made it a great experience and the fish was spot on. Honestly this place has the best fish & chips I've ever eaten. The owners are so lovely, and remembered us (and our orders) from last week, which was a really nice touch on top of an already great meal. It's unusual where we're from to find a chippy that sells anything other than processed cod, so a freshly made haddock supper was an incredible find, and we were kept very entertained with some chatter while we waited. I'd recommend this to anyone in Portobello, 100%.

What a gem.......super friendly owners and absolutely beautiful fish and chips. Definitely worth a visit.

I cannot recommend this place enough! My future wife and I fancied fish and chips so went for a walk to find somewhere, we stumbled across this absolute gem of a place. We were greeted by what I believe was husband and wife, who were so incredibly friendly. The gentleman made us aware that they do not have a lot all ready cooked and waiting as they like to serve as fresh as possible, especially the haddock (which he sounded very proud of). We put our order in to the friendly lady at the till and happily waited, the gentleman made us aware the fish was cooking and will be ready shortly. Once ready the daughter came out to help pack everything up. Once everything was packed the gentleman walked up to us and wished us both good luck moving forward (my partner being heavily pregnant). We ordered fish and chips for 6 people, everything was cooked fresher than I have experienced before by people that are friendlier than I could have wished for. My partner and I walked away with the biggest smiles on our faces and discussed our experience all the way back to where we were staying. Oh and please let's not forget everything tasted AMAZING!! Please please visit this place, you will not be disappointed. I never leave reviews but this chip shop deserves as much recognition as possible!!!
