I came here for with a group of friends from school for a long overdue catch up! You cannot beat the garden and the wonderful view with rolling hills and friendly cows in neighbouring fields! We enjoyed pizza at lunch accompanied by aperol spritzes and local ciders and before we knew it, it was dinner time so we stayed to sample the sharing board with smoked mackerel pate and crudités followed by pulled pork burgers and delicious cold slaw! Live music started at 6pm which added to the friendly atmosphere and really rounded the day off superbly! Louise and Dave were fantastic hosts!

A party of 6, booked to include our Irish Setter (but he was exhausted and we left him at home) - we took advantage of one of the garden pods with fantastic views on a gorgeous evening. The landlady and other staff were extremely friendly and we ordered 4 pizzas together with several small tapas plates (2 meatballs, cod croquettes, scampi, chips) and a side of jalapeños ! All were delicious. The pizzas were delivered one-by-one (as they only have a single pizza oven) but this wasn't an issue for us as we grazed our way through the evening. The Serrano Ham and Blue Vinny was our fav. topping.

I have reviewed this place several times and it's always the same 5stars. Had Sunday lunch which was most enjoyed by all. It's got something - whether it's the quality of the food, the well kept beers, the ambiance, the friendly staff or the pleasant garden with views over the lovely Dorset countryside who knows? The mixture however is a surefire hit.

Nothing makes me happier when my pub meal arrives, than a proper pie. An actual slice with a top, bottom and sides of decent pastry. When you see that then you know that the chef actually cares about what he’s putting out, and you are likely to have a good meal. Today all was delicious, friendly welcoming staff and it was easy to get a table in the bar at short notice. I honestly think that the spyway is a seriously underrated pub in the area. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

An excelllent Saturday night dinner after walking 12 miles from Cerne Abbas and the night before walking 12 more to Abbotsbury. A very warm welcome; relaxed, friendly but efficient staff. We were ravenous and the meal was just what we needed - excellent chowder starter. I then had the chicken pie; my brother had the liver. All very well prepared and presented and delivered with prompt, no nonsense service. Good beers too.

Sunday lunch - with high expectations from the reviews and the very nice booking experience.Service was a bit odd - the lady serving had no knowledge of the ales, which considering there wasn't many was disappointing. Limited menu with some things not available, again the server didn't know the soup of the day or the pate - all small things but frustrating non the less. However, all of the food was excellent - fresh, tasty and reasonable portion sizes. We were overcharged - eventually sorted out after 2 requests to check the bill. The food saved the day hence the slightly generous 4 stars.

I happened to be in Bridport at lunchtime, and this is quite convenient. I had been once before in the mid 1970's when it claimed to have a Swiss influence, and maybe it did because the food was quite good. But the Swiss connection is no more! The menu is a bit more adventurous than a normal Dorset pub. We started with crab soup, and then ate a very serviceable prawn risotto. Very pleasant.

This is a charming village pub in a beautiful part of Dorset serving decent beer. But sadly it is let down by the very average food it serves. If you want a huge portion of re-heated food piled up on your plate with loads of potatoes and vegetables with no concern whatever for the standard of presentation this is the place for you. But if quality is more important than quantity go elsewhere. We are not after haute cuisine, just fresh products, decently cooked and well presented. Is it really that difficult? Situado firmemente en el medio de la nada, de que este pub hace cualquier encargo es notable; de que hace ya mucho, ya que no es testamento a un alto nivel de servicio y excelente comida. The Spyway Inn is a bit tricky to find if you don't know the area but it's well worth the effort. The food is amazing and such huge portions. The first time we went we were really impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff. The second time they seemed a little understaffed but it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the evening. On the third visit we sat outside to eat as it was such a lovely evening, the garden has good views over the countryside and it was perfect. My only tiny criticism would be that the menu is a little limited, it would be nice to have a few more choices but they seem to do a chef special every day which is usually well worth trying. A great local pub in a wonderful rural environment. Very welcoming, attentive landlord. We've been half a dozen times over the past two or three years. To begin with the food was excellent but the last two visits have been very disappointing. The menu needs a refresh and a bit of flair to the cooking. Tempura king prawns were tasteless, soggy and very 'English'. Gorgeous garden for al fresco dining in the summer when the quality of food is less important.

This small pub in rural Dorset is still very much a pub with a bar that was full of drinkers, although it’s a small room and it doesn’t take many to fil it. There are two separate smallish restaurant areas but the feel is very much of a village pub that does meals rather than a restaurant where you can buy a drink. The beer was excellent and the service friendly and welcoming. The menu is quite extensive, mainly pub favourites, fish and chips, lamb shank, a steak, cottage pie etc. but a wider than usual selection of vegetarian dishes. The food it has to be said is average. I had the scallops as a starter, they were OK, perhaps a bit dry but covered with a very strong caramelised sauce of onions and other things, far too strong for a delicate flavour like scallops. For main course I had the lamb’s liver, cut much too thick and overcooked it was crumbly and not very flavourful. The vegetables while not exciting were perhaps slightly better than the norm. Others has the fish and chips which was fine, the leg of duck and a vegetarian curry which were all OK but certainly not special. Fairly basic comfort Pub Grub. For pudding I had a treacle sponge pudding with ice cream, again OK but no more.Overall a pleasant evening out, nice place, nice ambiance, plenty to fill you up but not a gastronomic treat.

We decided to eat at one of our favourite pubs. We had our warm welcome from Tim very accommodating as usual. Ordered our food my friend enjoyed her fish pie, I had the liver it was over cooked and hard to cut through on one side but the flavour of the gravy and mountain of chips/veg made up for it. I didn't eat it all as I wanted a pudding as i have had their puds before I wanted to leave room for one. That's when things went wrong my friend enjoyed her Eton mess but I had the trio of chocolate which consisted of a rock hard dried up brownie, a cheesecake that tasted like it was going over and a chocolate orange pot that had never seen an orange before. I couldn't eat any of it, so when the waitress came over I very quietly told her that it wasn't good I also found myself apologising about the fact I couldn't eat it!! She said that she would sort it out. I popped out to the garden for some air but on my way I overheard them saying horrible things about me complaining and being incredibly defensive about what I had said. Of course I'm feeling very uncomfortable at this point and decide we'll have our coffee outside and settle up straight away. I was not only charged for the pudding but not once did anyone approach me about it to say sorry or to offer me something else or to even acknowledge me in anyway. Even when the waitress brought the coffee outside I apologised again for mentioning the said pud, also that I'd overheard what they had said and hoped I had not caused any trouble. She said no it was fine and she would let them know yet still no one came out to see us. We were so uncomfortable we left via the garden so we didn't have to walk through the bar. This is a place that I take people to for Christmas dinner twice over the festive period. I also take family/friends throughout the year. I will not be going back. Feeling very disappointed.

Having walked for almost 3 hours to reach this destination we were disappointed to see a very definite NO DOGS on the door. It was slightly raining so the garden was out of the question, thank goodness my husband wasn't walking and met us at the put with our car, we had to deposit our very tired terrier in the car which seemed sad. I can understand dogs being barred from the restaurant but from a country pub bar it seemed unusual. Anyway once past this disappointment things looked up, the staff looked after us well and we were pleased to find a space in a very comfy corner which I can imagine is a favourite spot. Once we'd decided to eat the barman suggested we quickly grab a table which was adjacent to the bar as he was expecting a large group to come in, it was good advice as we'd have found it hard to eat standing at the bar. The food wasn't haute cuisine, it was good pub grub but maybe in the restaurant (on the other side of the building) it has a more varied menu. All in all I liked The Spyway Inn but where we live in Surrey we're allowed to take our very well behaved terrier in with us to almost any country pub, I don't think we'll return for that reason alone.

An olde worlde pub with lots of atmosphere and a lovely garden set among rolling fields. Booking is advisable as the restaurant is not over large. The menu is varied and a choice of Sunday roasts on offer as well. On the day we were there we had an unfortunate cut of lamb which was unusually tough but it was immediately replaced with melt in the mouth beef. One of the regulars had the same and was extremely surprised so I wouldn't let our bad luck put you off. We will definitely eat here again.

We had an excellent meal with prompt service. Pleasant restaurant in the middle of nowhere, and worth driving to the top of the hill for the lovely expansive view to the south west.

We were recommended this pub/ eatery by our hostess, both for nearness but also for good food. Sitting in the bar area for a drink firstly - as our table was not quite ready & they were busy, we chose different options for our evening meal, enjoyed my rissotto & consequently booked to return the following nightSecond time we both had hake - different styles - but really goodStaff very pleasant, would recommend if in the area

Went to the pub of our choice but it was closed! Driving to Bridport and came across the Spyway Inn--did not know what to expect but found the dinner very good .Friendly ,family atmosphere in an obviously ancient Inn. Very pleased with our accidental find! Will go there again next time we are nearby.

This is a nice pub - mainly set up for food, as bar area is tiny. It has a lovely beer garden looking out over hills. The service was really friendly. Came here for dinner when I was staying in the area.Me: Lasagne with garlic bread and a small salad. I also had a side order of chips. The lasagne was very disappointing, as it was dry and over cooked, with no bechamel sauce. Chips were good.My friend: Halibut on a bed of cabbage, which had been fried with bacon and cream, served with green beans and sauté potatoes. He said the fish was nicely cooked and tasty, but the sauce was a bit runny. Came to £43.60 with 2 pints of beer each.

Another fabulous welcome and beautifully cooked meal at The Spyway - now been coming here for over 9 years and continue to enjoy the changes in the menu. Always a really good welcome even though we only visit a few times a year - highly recommended!

We had not been to the Spyway Inn for a good many years and following a recommendation, booked this last minute for Sunday lunch on a grey cold day and were not disappointed. We were very warmly greeted and shown to our table. Besides the usual Sunday roasts, there is a good selection on the menu. 2 of us had roast dinners, one had lamb shank and the other had duck. The food was nicely presented, fresh vegetables and good portions using local produce. There is a delicious dessert menu, all home made. All of us enjoyed our meals and were very impressed by the friendliness of all the staff. Tim, the proprietor, was very attentive and very friendly. He told us he has been there for 13 years! We realised this is how long ago we had last visited!! We all agreed we would definitely return.

We went to the Spyway Inn on New Year's Eve. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was a good range of beer and cider and the food was good too. And even thought the restaurant was full they let us eat in the bar from the same menu. If you are down there it is well worth a visit

This pub is excellent small but a Dorset gem with cosy dinning and superb food. My daughter and I had the duck which was cooked to perfection and a sticky toffee pudding to die for. A very warm welcome every time and attentive waitresses. Excellent meal and excellent all round.

We went for Sunday lunch and took some friends from Devon, who hadn't heard of this place. Booking is a must, by the way, as it is so popular with the locals. As soon as you walk in, there is a good atmosphere. The bar area is small, but has a warm, cosy feel to it. The bar and restaurant staff are lovely and made us feel very welcome. The choice on the menu is good and our friends, noth vegetarian, had plenty to choose from. The whole experience was good and we will certainly be going back.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

Excellent food, friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile. This is one of the happiest places I know to have breakfast, lunch or just gorgeous cake

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Very friendly village pub with good quality, reasonably priced food. Delicious homemade biscuits/chocolates with coffee. Welcome dogs even when wet. Highly recommend.
