Dogs are welcome, for this alone we'd have given a min of three stars 🤩 Food was good, although the service was a bit slow as the place was certainly not busy. However, when it came, the service was good and the staff helpful and polite. Worked out a nice place to stop and break up our journey, if we're ever back in the area we'd probably call in again.

I work as a support worker for people with learning difficulties and we had a large group of us come in for drinks and a meal. As they all have to pay separately and required a receipt for supported banking this was very confusing for me but Klaudia did an amazing job helping add up individual payments and find a way to make this process as easy as possible. She was very helpful, kind and respectful to the clients and really went above and beyond with helping us. Really appreciated all the help from Klaudia and the rest of the team. Absolutely worth a visit on Tuesdays they play card bingo on first visit I won 104 pound. Melissa, our waitress was amazing. Went back on Wednesday for quiz night won a bag of chocolates and the staff were still amazing attending all our needs before they were a need. Kluadia served us on Wednesday and we had such a laugh and amazing service even whan they got our bill wrong it was due to Kluadia that fixed it for us and immediately sorted it out. Would recommend this place highly as it has a good atmosphere and super friendly staff..

Nothing is too much trouble for your staff. Food good.

Pre ordered food for a group of 9; starters came ok (however prawns were overcooked and chorizo dry) but they somehow forgot to tell kitchen about 2 main courses. Final main course came whilst everyone else had finished! Why preorder? Lasagne was poor; mainly pasta and cheese and dry. Vegetables overcooked. V poor quality food and service. Avoid!

Staff were excellent an especially accommodating.

Disastrous visit, table of 10 with no food appearing after 1hr30 wait so we left. Waiting staff tried to help but let down by the kitchen which was clearly unable to cope, hence they should never have taken the booking. Don’t like to pile in but this isn’t an independent and Greene King should do far better…

No booking, but made very welcome. Excellent waiting on tables by hard-working, pleasant staff. The meal was very good value, well cooked and presented. A lovely experience during a very busy lunchtime. Also good to observe that dogs not allowed in the restaurant part of the pub.

Had Christmas lunch today. Food was superb and beautifully presented. Excellent value for money for three courses plus a hot drink and mince pie at the end. You could even have a specialty coffee or a hot chocolate, not just a regular tea or filter coffee. Would 100% recommend this place. Staff were friendly and jolly and very welcoming. Also did festive cocktails and dogs were welcome.

We had our choir Christmas meal at the Spyglass & Kettle (as we have done for a few years). This time, as always, we had a great evening. The food was great, and served hot to all 20 of us, and the staff were brilliant. We'll be back!

I had the festive menu, the food was good, the service was great and the entertainment was good as well, with 3 courses for £23.99 the food was better than some of the Hotels in Bournemouth charging a lot more for food that is not as good, I highly recommend this place!

Due to an illness have not been to our favourite restaurant/pub for a number of weeks however returned last night . Have to say nothing has changed the atmosphere was vibrant the entertainment outstanding the food excellent service and friendly approach was stunning and the management very visible including the Manager Jo with the customers making it a great friendly place to visit as a couple or as many were in large family groups enjoying time together for Xmas Many local pubs have closed which is no wonder if they have the spy glass as a competitor as can not match it Jo and time keep going making peoples evening happy /great value and enjoyable I will be back next week Thank you so much Regar GordonSilvester

We have just had the most amazing time with friends and family at the spy glass and kettle in Bournmoth the staff there are so friendly and couldnt do enough for us so accomadating and kind . We can highly recommend this pub /hotel for a place to stay for a party or just for a day trip and lunch /dinner. The manager she was fantastic a great front women . We will definitly be going back . Superb night watching , dancing and singing along to Diva Legends Tribute Act , featuring Blondie, Madonna and Kylie. Great entertainment backed by great service in the pub itself from Jo and her team . Always made to feel welcome at the Spy , a credit to the local community. Long may it continue!

Had a great night at Spyglass tonight. Live music Friday and Saturday throughout December. It's always a lovely atmosphere what ever time of day. We're so lucky to have such a fabulous place to go as locals.

We had the seniors turkey and tinsel festive meal, the food was delicious and the service was always with a smile. We really enjoyed our little treat before christmas 🎄

Visited while on holiday for drinks and lunch. Fantastic food, marvellous service, Oscar deserves a mention, friendly, polite,helpful and professional but all the staff were super. Highly recommend and wonderful location overlooking the sea at southbourne.

We took our daughter, son, partners our grandchildren and our grandsons girlfriends, 13 in total for my and my wife 50th wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect! The service, the food absolutely amazing evening!

Portions were poor. Not many chips, spoonful of mushy peas, 10 scampi. Upsold steak, as sauce and mushrooms extras. Chocolate souffle not brilliant, half the icecream had melted, what little there was of it. Not told there were sultanas in the sticky toffee pudding. Waitress insisted this was mentioned on the menu double checked, no mention at all, my son hates dried fruit. When mentioned this we were told we should have said my son has an allergy. I had a flag stuck in my meal, after saying I was allergic to mushrooms reading allergy, no reason to do this. Festive menu poor, only 3 choices. Very expensive for what was served

Cannot fault the service unfortunately the food was a big let down ! How can onion rings have no onion? Strange texture of chips, gammon very chewy, almost tasted uncooked

Friday night, live music and party night.

Went here last Tuesday for dinner and drinks as it was my birthday.They had a card bingo night, so we joined in. On the fifth game, I won £106 plus a voucher for a Chicken Dinner. Service/Food/ Atmosphere was very good, would definitely come again.

Attended a family meal last night,but food not good at all ordered gammon and chips unfortunately chips tasted raw and gammon wasn’t cooked enough so chewy,didn’t say anything last night as I didn’t want to ruin the family meal but after talking to two other family members they said the same ,the service was brilliant with the older fella and young lady but the food needs looking at guys ,thankyou

I was with a large party so it was very noisy! Bar staff were great, buffet food was poor for me a vegan but I think the organising family were responsible for that!

Came here due to the lovely location and previous positive visits and being local. Service and cleanliness you can't fault . But out recent visit here ! we were really disappointed more by the green King quality of dishes. the lack of ingredients and tasteless meals was awful . The pie was great but the lasagne was awful . Tasteless and portion was minimum and not worth the price . We ordered extra chips, which we counted 12 of! for the price of 3.50. The land lady did give us extra portion and was really nice, but pictures I have added you decide for yourselves. It's a shame for such a lovely place local we regularly visit, but we will give this place a miss for food .

Beautiful fish and chips. Fish was very tasty - It was tilapia (a bit like skate). 2 meals for £16.99. Service friendly and quick as usual.

Went for an informal, dog-friendly, Saturday lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the home style food was better than I expected. As it was a sunny October afternoon there were lots of people sitting outside, with lots of dogs in attendance. A good atmosphere for a weekend casual meal.

Slow service and frozen food just served hot. Not impressed with the taste.

I had the delicious lamb shank roast dinner and my husband had the award winning steak & ale pie meal which he said definitely lived up to it's reputation. The staff were friendly, polite and very attentive.

Excellent service, laid back, friendly, homely & welcoming pub. We had lunch on Sunday. I had a small roast which was adequate in size but average in taste. Beef was a bit tough, left the stuffing that was overdone. My daughter had something off the usual menu & loved everything about the Spyglass & Kettle. They sold her favourite cider & our bill was reasonable. We were surprised to discover they have accommodation but limited number of rooms Entertainment on Friday nights.

Love the atmosphere of this place, have been coming here weekly for around 10 years now. Food is consistently great and the staff are friendly and attentive. Jo the landlady does a fantastic job and is always glad to see us! The card bingo on Tuesdays is great fun too!

You must try the new Swiss burger tasted amazing. Great value too £12 with a pint!

Had a fab meal here, they were really helpful over my dairy intolerance, and made me a hunter's chicken with vegan cheese. It was beautifully cooked. There was even a dessert for me! Staff helpful and friendly. The place is a little on the noisy side, only to be expected as it's a busy pub.

Food was cold. Young girl in kitchen was not wearing a hat.

Well impressed with the Spyglass & Kettle, we normally go to the Cranleigh but decided to have a change. The food in the Spyglass is hotter and a much better taste than the Cranleigh. The staff are friendly and the food comes out quickly, another nice touch is paying for your meal after you have eaten it none of this pay at the bar before hand. The atmosphere in the pub is relaxed and welcoming, this was our first visit to the Spyglass & Kettle but definitely won't be our last. Well done the Spyglass & Kettle and it's staff.

Stopped here for a couple of pints on way home had a pint and a half of morreti which cost £9.90 my girlfriend was driving so had a pint of morreti and half of lemonade next round which cost £10.50 so lemonade is dearer than half of morreti don't understand especially as drink driving is discouraged how lemonade is dearer than beer !!!!

Horrible service from bar, Something at little as I didn’t want mayo on my burger, And they point blank refused to change it for me, So I had to eat something that was disgusting just like the service! Was a male behind bar looked like manager, Everyone else was perfect but he really ruined my day with the way I got spoken to, Would totally avoid for food!

I went here yesterday to check out their roast dinner... Very disappointed broccoli was under cooked. Roast potatoes were tiny has the equivalent of one small potato cut into 4. Not very tasty at all I only ate it because I was so hungry but totally not worth the money. Also went to use the toilet both the mens toilets were disgusting and the disabled toilet was covered in human fecal matter all on the outside of the toilet bowl so I couldn't use either facilities.. very disappointing this pub years ago was amazing for food now it's like everything taste like frozen food even months ago I came in for food and again it was pre made frozen food that was pre heated... Won't be back for food here again.

Really lovely pub for an afternoon drink (especially in the huge beer garden in the summer), or for drinks in the evening. Really nice to find a venue that supports local bands and has live music on Friday nights too!

Five friends and I had a late lunch one Friday afternoon. The menu offered a reasonable choice. My friends enjoyed fish and chips. I found a vegetarian option easily enough. Prices are reasonable. The six of us ate well enough for £110. What disappointed me was the standard of service. The welcome was poor. It felt as though we were a nuisance rather than valued customers. Staff were not attentive. They were slow to offer desserts for example. It's like so many businesses. They can't compete without running things on a shoestring. The staff have too much to do. As a consequence the customer isn't the number one priority. The place was only half full so they didn't really ought to have been overstretched.

Great food and drinks. Early week bargain price £15 for two mains. Food quality was great - we had Katsu chicken and Gammon. Really impressed. Drinks good too. Our waitress Melissa was wonderful. Will be back later in the holiday week.

New post 2 sept 2024. Had lunch today and enjoyed every meal, starter, main and desert. The staff were brilliant, the food tasty, service very professional. It can be seen why this is a popular location. Thanks to Klaudia and the other waitress who looked after us you were super.

The decor looks tired; the carpet is a squishy mess. However, outside seating is noticeably nicer. Service is generally good, staff are welcoming. Food is mostly beige and uninspiring, a greater selection of healthier food would be welcome.

Went here for an impromptu meal yesterday for the first time. Would definitely recommend going here. The food was great and the staff were fantastic.

We went in with four children we waited 2hrs for greasy sub standard food. Will not grace these premises ever again and feel sorry for any one that does.

Awesome pub with really good food. We had a late booking but were able to get food and drink with no hassle. The staff were amazing, the atmosphere warm and friendly and wee were treated to live music too! We will definitely be returning.

Family of 5 - kids 5, 5 and 3. Adult starters arrived first, kids meals wrong and sent back. Adult mains arrived first. Kids mains wrong, explained what we ordered and told “I checked and you did order the pizza” assured her we absolutely did not order pizza. 4 out of 5 meals arrive, one kids meal doesn’t arrive until after everyone has finished, even after speaking with 4 different staff. By the time it arrived she wasn’t hungry as had to eat from the rest of ours plates. No apology given. Food that did arrive was below average and nobody finished their plates. Most staff were friendly (other than the girl who insisted we ordered pizza even though she wasn’t the one taking our order), atmosphere/surroundings were nice. Toilets were unclean. Really disappointed because we came here three years ago whilst on holiday and really enjoyed the food and were excited to come back but tonight was a big disappointment.
