Waiting 35 minutes for food and wasn’t told there was a wait. When the food came out the chicken strips were here warmish not hot and same for the onion rings, manager seemed about snappy towards the staff but the other staff were lovely!

Lovely place with a great outdoor space and good menu choice. I took an elderly friend for lunch and the seniors menu was just perfect. Dillon our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Great service.

Warm friendly atmosphere in a lovely location , near beach. Nice food and excellent service , we all had a lovely evening and the staff were all very pleasant and efficient.

Love this place, Jo and her team are always friendly. Food was fabulous and especially the Victoria sponge cheesecake off the specials, it had Eton mess on the side, 3 puds in one, fabulous. Super dog friendly means it’s a winner for us.

Really nice pub, cheap, quick food, not the best but it is ok. It's a green king pub. There is plenty of outdoor space on a nice day. It's clean. Staff are friendly. My only issue is whenever we go to try eat, all the tables inside are reserved, especially if the quiz is on, we went down about 5.45pm and the quiz started at 8pm, the tables inside where all reserved, the staff also informed us they were reserved all evenjng. We sat at had a drink outside but it wasn't quite warm enough to eat, and no one used those tables, at least 10 tables missing out on food orders all evening, so we ended up going elsewhere, on numerous occasions because of this. It's not just on the quiz evenings

Had a lovely meal here yesterday! Food was delicious, staff were very pleasant and courteous and service was timely for a busy Saturday night. Also very pleased that they had some nice options for our vegan guest. Hope to return soon!

Worse burnt meal that we have ever tried to eat would have sent it back but there was a group of us and it had taken so long to cook we decided to move on.

Stayed here for 3 nights in July. Room was a good size and a great view of the coast from our window. The bed was large and comfortable. Only small gripe: a lack of cupboard space for clothes. We ate here couple of times, the food was very good, arriving in good time after ordering. The atmosphere in the pub was convivial and not overbearing. Great thing about the location is that you can be on the beach in 5 minutes and there is a bus stop right outside. In summary, really nice pub with good facilities and a great location. Would stay again.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Nice range of seating options inside and outside. Food is outstanding had the chicken burger and chips. Burger was nice and crispy and chips were well seasoned. Jo and her team will do everything they can to accommodate your needs very friendly bunch! Make sure you get down to the spyglass and kettle!

Lovely pub and restaurant. The food is great value for money and so is the drinks. They always have some event on every evening from card bingo to a live band. The welcoming of the pub is great from the staff and the locals. They make you feel very welcomed. The garden is nicely done with differently painted benches, which is an eye catcher if you're walking past. Great pub to visit!

Had roast Turkey today and to be honest I wish I'd gone to a Toby. At dry or Harvester as their food is better than what we had today . All I ate was the Aunt Bessie roasties and veg , turkey wasn't hot and the Yorkshire were like pancakes and leathery. Wouldn't recommend or go there again obviously.

Lively pub on the coast road, well appointed, airy and light to the front with a more traditional feel to the rear. Service was prompt, efficient and polite with a good menu of choices to tempt palates. Whilst we had a food issue, the took two attempts to resolve, we were appropriately compensated and this did not detract from our overall visit.

Just spent a weekend staying here with my dog and a friend. What a warm and welcoming pub! The rooms were fabulous, very clean and bed was super comfy! We ate at the restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner over the course of the weekend, all the food was delicious, very well priced, served hot! Specially recommended the pie!!!! The location is absolutely perfect if your coming to do some beach walking, literally across the road. This is an all round great place! Lively environment, staff are all very welcoming! We've already booked to go back again! Thanks to Jo and her team!!

I'd love to rate this place 5 stars, but there's always some frustration. We've visited a few times, and every table is reserved. We end up having a drink and watching the empty restaurant for over an hour before leaving. The staff is great—friendly and helpful—but it's frustrating and pointless to be told everything is booked, only to see it empty. Maybe they should keep some tables back for walk-ins that can't be pre-booked—the bar area tables for food are too high for children in high chairs.

Sunday lunch was ok, but arrived luke warm so it was cold well before we finished....

Our visit was for the Wednesday Quiz Night with the best Quizmaster around , David . He makes the evening with his swift , sharp style of humour. We also attend the pubs numerous tribute nights and regular Friday night music. Great staff led by Jo the manager .

We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and lunch there today; the food was amazing, and totally worth the price.. Both the starters and Sunday Roast were amazing, the staff was very courteous, can't fault anything!

What a night on Saturday packed to the roof with a 60th birthday party and a rod Stewart tribute this is the best pub for miles for good food and entertainment fantastic bands on a Friday night top class tribute bands on Saturday night the ONLY place to be a big thank you Joe and her star 🤩

Once again had a great experience tonight at card bingo, would highly recommend it to anyone although tonight was packed. All the staff are amazing! But I have to give a special shout out to Ben 😁 always looking after my dog Shadow 🐾 Was nice to finally meet Jo too. Thanks Natalie and Shadow xxx

Lovely atmosphere, exceptional beer and good food. Lots of staff at hand made it an all together pleasant experience. Well done! 🙃 It's so lovely to see such a diverse group of people. There must be at least 30 youngsters (20's) on the dancefloor along with the normal croud. If you're young and looking for a night of drinking and dancing, look no further. We have been coming to walk along cliffs for last 4 years and always enjoyed calling in to this pub for lunch. Unfortunately no special menu for 2 so went elsewhere and got two meals for £12.

Chips were ace, good pint of Guinness

A nice break in Bournemouth led us to have a few beers in here over a few days. Great food, good selection of beers and ales, kid friendly and Fri staff. I highly recommend the pie and chips.

Walked in for breakfast. Sat outside. Breakfast along time coming . When it did arrive it was only luke warm.condiments bucket half empty no salt no pepper. Tomato ketchup enough for one person.

We arrived to this beautiful pub for lunch. It wasn't too busy at all. We ordered drinks which took a good half hour to come. I was about to get up and leave as there were staff moving around as if they had no idea what they were doing. It's a shame as this place is in such a beautiful location. Food was okay for pub food, nothing to get thrilled over.

We ordered a tomato, pesto, and halloumi salad, but 3/7 items were missing from the salad, according to the menu, the onions, tomatoes, and peppers (as shown in the photo). Cocktails were ok, even if I think there was no aperol in the Aperol spritz.

A really lovely place has a very community feel to it. The live music on Fridays is really good

The food was very mundane disappointed that there was not more fish on the menu. Would not return

Busy pub even on a Monday lunchtime, but we were able to find a table in the bar easily. Food was served quickly after ordering at the bar. Both the chicken and ham pie, and hunter's chicken were tasty. Being a Green King there are loads of daily offers including some very cheap deals for over 60s, or even just tea and cake. We will visit again next time in Southbourne. Great location with indoor and outdoor eating areas.

Sorry to have to post this - but Had a Sunday roast & I was so disappointed.The roast potatoes were like cardboard, beef quite tough & could have played golf with the stuffing ball ! ! . Cauliflower cheese was brown as if it was the last in the pan & scraped out. The carrots, peas & parsnips were ok though.

Best place for a Sunday roast, we go every sunday without fail. Friendly and welcoming staff very good prices and menu.

Went today for Sunday lunch but kitchens are closed til 4th May. So this review is from past visits as well as today. Very friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly. Food is fabulous - great Sunday roast and breakfast naps to die for! Whenever income to visit my friend in Southbourne we come here - she's also a regular visitor when I'm not here! This pub is a fantastic hub for the community as well as visitors

Lovely food, lovely staff, a lovely place to natter in the afternoon tucked into a nice leather armchair. The lunch deal is really good, and the vegan meatball ciabatta was delicious.

Been past many times but never in so today we changed that. Pretty busy on a Saturday early evening so book a table. Nice menu with a few specials to mix it up a bit. The staff are very friendly and the service was pretty quick considering they were busy. Food was well cooked and everyone in our party of four enjoyed it. Would definitely go back.

Visited Wednesday evening for the Pub Quiz and booked a table in advance for me and my friends. The pub quiz was great fun and we were looked after by a lovely server named Lola who made sure we had an amazing time. Will be visiting again for sure

Went to to the pub 26/03. Ordered two steaks which were very nice. I remember thinking at the time the plate looks very empty, just a few chips, 2 onion rings and a small piece of steak. When I got home looked on the photos, I think they must of forgot to add vine tomatoes and rocket. Didn’t like complaining. The steak was lovely

We walked in and went up to the bar & Luke was there to greet us and we were shown straight to a table for 2 we did have several people asking us if everything was ok but Luke & Lola made our 1st visit very pleasant and we defiantly will be back soon. 🌟🌟 The food was very good and well presented fish & chips & chocolate brownie & rhubarb crumble. 🌟🌟

Came here due to the lovely location and previous positive visits . Service and cleanliness you can't fault . But out recent visit we were really disappointed more by the green King franchise portions more so the lack of ingredients they used for some but not all dishes. The pie was great but the lasagne was awful . Tasteless and portion was minimum and worth the price . We ordered extra chips which we counted 12 of. for the price of 3.50. The land lady did gives us extra portion and was really nice but pictures I have put on you decide for yourselves, Its a shame for such lovely place.

Had there been a zero, it would have been our rating. We tried to book a table for 10 persons. We used the email enquiry system for ‘large parties’ as our phone calls and voice messages received no reply …. And nor did our email. Awful.

( although I think Ziggy was the favourite) 😊 Had a lush meal on my final night, for my friends birthday, fabulous! I will be back 💛

Updating this review because the service at this place is consistently brilliant, they are always so welcoming. The food is fast, hot, and reasonably priced. Special shout out to Dylan today (Sunday) for great service.

Well, the food is actually very nice. There is a “Seniors” menu at £7.99 for two courses and £8.99 for three courses which is very good value. The options are somewhat limited but very acceptable. The main courses from the Seniors menu are rather small but very nice and freshly cooked and perfectly adequate for most appetites. The main problem is service - and not the fault of the staff who seem to be working flat out. After our starters, It took 50 minutes for our main courses to arrive and then another 45 minutes for our two desserts to be served. The restaurant and bar areas were absolutely packed with not a spare table in sight anywhere and people waiting. And … this was on a Wednesday lunchtime. We would definitely go back, but to wait almost 2 hours to complete a pub lunch is a bit daunting. The food shown is the crumble and custard from the Seniors menu which was lovely.

We came here last night for a birthday meal and to catch up with our friend who was staying here .. food was lovely, staff were super helpful and friendly as always. This is our local and we always say how lucky we are to have it at the end of our road.. always love our spyglass visits.. great atmosphere too.. love it

Ordered a starter for main with portion of chips.. chips arrived after starter. Husband had lamb shank. £ 16.99 it was cold nobody was interested. Nephew orderd brunch and 3 extras extras arrived after we had to request them again and arrived as he had nearly finished his main.

I've visited this pub for years but lately the service at the bar is painfully slow.It seems that your next to be served and the barman decides to make himself a hot chocolate or go and talk to the other serving staff.The Commodore just does it a lot better.

Nice informal atmosphere, with an expansive range of cuisine and drinks guaranteed to suit all "tastes "!! The atmosphere is good, and the staff are courteous. It's family & dog friendly, and the added attraction of The Spyglass & Kettle being situated within minutes of Southbourne beach, means that a visit is an "absolute must"!!

The food was well cooked, very tasty vegetables etc and fantastic , staff polite and really obliging can't praise it enough

Not enough room for all the guests, even though they knew how many were coming. All the courses came out at different times, so nobody at at the same time. By the time the last person had their course, those who were served first had finished theirs. Also, the tables were being cleared whilst people were still eating due to how long it took to serve everyone their courses. One person was brought out the wrong item, stating that the form had been completed with that item on. However, I still have the original breakdown of what everyone was having. Another of our party was told that what they ordered was out of stock, so they were offered an alternative. How can that even happen when everyone pre booked?? This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. If I could put zero stars, I would. This meal was arranged by my late partner, who passed in November. She hoped to have made it through to this meal, even though she could not eat herself. The meal was booked for boxing day and should have been a celebration of her life by the closest family members. Instead, it was not, and destroyed the atmosphere.

Busy pub with most tables reserved. Did order the sirloin which arrived quickly however the chips were hot but the steak was just about cold and fatty . Not a happy chappy on this occasion

Sadly the staff let it down, location and food is pretty good 👍. But staff are always serving regulars over you, or they roll their eyes if you ask for ice or to apply your discount code! Or the staff are shouting and chatting to each other rather than serving. Normally pop in on week day in the day as it's quieter and can put up with the staff issues. One small blonde girl behind bar on Saturday last week was rude and I remember her being rude on a quiz night as well, I wonder if she realises the customer basically pays her wages! So smile and wave no matter what! Drinks reasonably priced and food has some good deals!

This place is perfect for a drink or coffee/tea (although the coffee isn’t great either), however the food here is below average and the wait time is unacceptable.

Decent beer and nice atmosphere. Went on a Friday evening and there was a band on, too loud for me to be able to speak to the person next to me but the music was good.

Not been for years,service was great though food not so hot even when sent back shame as it spoilt the experience.

We had a 30 strong Christmas party. Food was amazing and came out hot and on time. Staff were lovely but the manager/landlady was awesome. Nothing to much trouble and excellent banter. It really made the party go with a swing. We will definitely be back whether as a group or as a family because it was brilliant xxx

Managaress Jo and her team allowed our crazy social group to have a belated Xmas party - food was excellent and the service was next to none. staying there overnight in a lovely room with a couple of friends and having a very nice breakfast made the finality of the event just right. Highly recommend this place - looking forward now to an extra NYE event this coming weekend. Thanks Jo for everything.

Fabulous place visited yesterday with dog to shelter from the rain before booking into the b&b. Staff amazing in this place, manager/brewery listen up give them a payrise if you havent already they are a credit to you and your establishment they loved Dexter Dog gave him treats and water. The Guinness was very nice as well. A gem of a place!!

I went to this place for the first time Not very impressed the tables were dirty Complaind to the lovely young waitress Its the falt of the night staff they are not cleaning up at the of the night Knives & forks set out on dirty table's This young waitress had to clear the tables and reset it again our table was dirty complained about that also,also crumbs on the chairs , dont recommend this place .and a dog on the seats no way Couldent eat there . 2 cups of coffee ☕ £5:30p never again

It took 2 hours to get our 2 very poor meals to the table, the service was dreadful and food the same.

We came for Boxing Day lunch. We expected it to be busy , and it was. Staff were pleasant but under pressure. Had to wait a while for meal but when it came it was almost cold and vegetables hard and not properly cooked. The meat was supposed to be turkey but it was slimey and cold! and I would question if was actually turkey meat. Unfortunately the meal was a big disappointment.

Had the most lovely New Year’s Eve here. The food was amazing and the DJ set was the best!!
