We visited this cafe looking for some comfort food after the previous nights partying!!!! It hit the spot, nice beans on toast and a cup of tea, all hot sorted us out!!!

Cafe European has sadly shut its doors - offered good friendly service and great breakfasts and coffee. We are going to miss you!

Visited for the first time recently and was not impressed. Grubby menus with crumbs and food smears all over them, dirty crockery (our milk jug came with old bits of food caked to the outside) and stale food, ordered a cake that looked like it had been sat there a week and was rock solid. Was not given any cutlery to eat our lunch with and the tea was luke warm and weak. I'm far from fussy and have never posted a bad review for anywhere before but it was awful. Weatherspoons or 60 mil postcards are nearby along with all the other places around that are miles better.

The Cafe European is located just off the Square in Bournemouth, and makes for a useful alternative to the department stores as a place t get a sandwich or bowl of soup at lunchtime. Prices are generally reasonable, and sandwiches or toasties are made to order, which means at busy times there can be a bit of a wait, but guarantees a decent fresh baguette for example. All are served with a small salad garnish. Drinks are moderately priced. My only small complaint is that they also have a window service to the street outside, and some customers waiting there were blowing cigarette smoke into the cafe proper!

We called in for breakfast and were very pleased with the service, quality of food, and value for money. If and when we visit Bournemouth town centre again we would certainly call in for breakfast, or something else from a very varied menu..

I must say, I am perplexed at the previous reviews of thisexcellent cafe.Indeed we were so impressed we ate breakfast here twice. We had breakfast the first day at the neighboring Wetherspoons, but it didn't compare to the excellent breakfast served here.We ordered the £4.95 specials, two eggs, two slices of bacon, beans, mushroomsand half of a tomato, served with toast or bread and butter. That price also included tea or coffee.Although on the second day it was only staffed by a youngster,he served and cooked all alone, for every customer. He was efficient and friendly and managed to serveour meals in next to no time.Forget the pub next door, use here!!Excellent food and value for money

I've been going here for a couple of years now and quite often several times a month. It was a nice cafe with friendly staff and at one point, a good value meal. After all this time of enjoying the breakfasts I thought I'd treat myself (admittedly for the umpteenth time this month), so I did. When my breakfast arrived I asked for a sausage as normal as I thought the guy had forgotten. But I was told that sausages were extra and if I were given a sausage by him he'd have to pay for it himself. These were his boss' words apparently. Well I don't know but stupid me I expect an English breakfast to contain a sausage as one of the core ingredients with mushrooms or hash browns as the paid for extras as in every other establishment I've eaten one in.The breakfast was not reduced in price either to reflect the reduced content. I will take my trade elsewhere.

We called in here one Sunday morning for breakfast brunch. The place was by no means full but as there were only 2 people to both cook and serve we faced quite a wait for our food. When it came it was OK - nothing special but it served the purpose of filling empty tums. This more or less sums up our experience of Cafe European whenever we have eaten there. The young lady who was cooking as well as serving was wearing nail polish which I thought was not allowed under hygiene regulations but perhaps that has changed and is no longer the case. As we left another young lady arrived to swell the number of staff and the nail polish she also was wearing was very chipped - I wouldn't like to think any of it was going to end up in somebody's sandwich! The clientele appears to be shoppers and the like but there is an element of transport cafe about it as many an off duty bus driver can be seen eating here during their break (some buses start and terminate in the square). In fact some of the food could be considered a bit transport cafe like.Up until 10 or so years ago Cafe European used to be Nightingale's Tearooms, a more 'traditional' eating place. The update to Cafe European may have been considered the way to go but footfall through the door appears to be far less as it always used to be packed out. Progress I suppose! One thing that amuses us is the Specials board which has had 'Three Cheese Omelette' as the one and only special for ever and a day. It has become a standing joke if we pop in for a bite to eat - we'll ask each other 'wonder what the special is today?'!All in all Cafe European is not a bad choice if you need a bite to eat while in central Bornemouth but average is the best way to describe it.

Old fashioned no frills cafe with friendly and attentive staff. Prices good, wide menu selection, always clean tables and unlimited tea and coffee with your meal. Small-child friendly with plenty of toys. (Good distraction).
