Rude owner, and an absolute rip off panini at £8 for about 50 grams of food. There are so many better alternatives in Stockbridge.

Takeaway panino was the the same as the sit in price of £6.50. They were advertising ‘upgrade’ to focaccia for £8 which you would imagine would be better. However, what arrived was not focaccia but toasted flatbread from Lidl, (I know because I sometimes buy it) with very little filling. £8 for this incredibly basic sandwich is just contemptuous stuff. There was no justification for the extra added cost. I felt ripped off and won’t be back.

Went for coffees with a friend. Sprio looks really cool and the setting is absolutely lovely. We got a nice table outside. A good start. Coffee was a little watery. Service was not very friendly. Definitely not rude, I just had to announce my presence, ask where to sit etc Could be a cultural thing, but in a nearly empty cafe I expect to be greeted. Price was competitive at £5 for the two coffees.

Coffee decent but service very stand-offish. I have been half a dozen times and the service has left a lot to wish for. Definitely getting a feeling of there being an in crowd that gets the smiles and the chats while the rest are treated with indifference. I also found it odd that they refused to give us a glass of tap water with our coffees and cannolis, but I think that says a lot about the attitude to customers. Shame as would love to support a local family business.

Very bad food or coffee, to be honest, low value of money, I also worry about the hygiene in the cafe too.

Went for lunch. Son aged 4 was chattering to family he hadn’t seen for a while about his interests. Owner leans over the counter frowns and shushes my son. Completely rude way to treat a young child who didn’t misbehave once during an hour lunch. Son upset and wondering why man was so unkind. Suggest avoid the place. Coffee also tasted watered down

My Italian is dreadful but I always feel at home here. Friendly, welcoming, quiet. Fantastic coffee. Food is lovely - especially the piadine. I like to go alone for some quiet time, but have also taken friends and (as infrequently as possible as it is 'my place'!) my children - who love it! Highly recommended.

I popped into Sprio for a coffee after find all the other coffee shops in Stockbridge very crowded on a Saturday afternoon and I'm glad a I did. It was nice to find a seat available and the staff were friendly and welcoming. As I enjoyed my coffee it was nice to listen to the Italian background music that made for a very relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for a nice place away from the chock-a-block coffee shops on Raeburn Place, I would certainly recommend popping around the corner to Sprio on St Stephen Street.

Incredible find! Don't know why it wasn't packed. Best panini, piadina and cannoli we've had outside Italy.

Stumbled on this cafe on the last day of the festival Can't understand why people are not queuing round the block to get in. Amazing coffee and real (as in REAL) Italian home made food - an absolute gem!

That’s my favorite place when i need a good coffee and a delicious homemade soup. It’s a quiet corner for a lunch break and a friendly chat with the Owners. As you know, the weather is not amazing in Edinburgh but, if you want to enjoy the sunshine (when it is) in Sprio you have the chance to taste an Italian coffee sitting outside .... Just try ...!

The menu is limited but delicious. I've had really gorgeous panini here, and the coffee is delicious. There are 2 or 3 tiny tables outside, which is nice if it's sunny.

Altamente recomendado!

With Italian owners, this place gives you real Italian food, with good options, with Italian touches. It's quite small - we sat outside in the sunshine which was lovely. Friendly owners.

Go here a lot for an Italian style coffee. Also a big fan if the toasted flatbreads the inter piadine. One of the nicest sunny spots in Edinburgh in the afternoon and the owners are very nice (a bit surprised that some of the other reviews say different)

This is a lovely Italian cafe with simple but lovely food. The paninis are very tasty and are the genuine Italian ones, not the doughy ones you often get in the UK. The coffee is also excellent, can't think of a better cup anywhere in Edinburgh. I find the owners very friendly, they made a fuss of my dog and fed him some bread. Sitting in the sun watching the world pass by in Stockbridge, not much wrong with that is there?

I go here a lot. The reason is simple - great coffee and fantastic sandwiches and snacks. It's small - there are only a few tables, but any ex-pat Italian should feel right at home. The radio is Italian, as are the sweets, and all manner of delectable sandwiches. And some outdoor seating on St Stephen Street if you feel the need of a fag. A cigarette, that is.

This is a nice little cafe. There are some lovely authentic italian touches such as the collection of comic art and the confectionery. Having said that the service leaves a lot to be desired. The couple who run it are unfiendly in the extreme and seem to begrudge the presence of customers in their cafe. On my LAST visit my cappucino was too hot, an unforgiveable crime against coffee. Not very child friendly either.

On first appearancs seems like a nice cafe in heart of Stockbridge. Staff unfriendly and barely mumbled anything at me. Soup - to takeaway - with no bread (despite menu stating bread) was £3.00! What I got was grey dishwater in a small paper cup. It was lukewarm, gritty and completely underseasoned. The menu proferred "pancetta and wine" zuppa. I couldn't discern either. Not impressed.

Nice quality coffee in a very small shop. Seating is limited both inside and out. The staff seem to think of it as an extension of their living room - if you are part of the select few you will get a smile and a few words, if not, you will be served while avoiding eye contact. Odd really but the transient staff in the chain coffee stores in Edinburgh are distinctly more pleasant.

My mum and son visited the restaurant on 6th July. Unfortunately, my mum took unwell and an ambulance had to be called. My son was extremely upset to see his grandma unwell but said the staff were absolutely excellent making my mum comfortable and supporting both him and my mum. They actually closed the restaurant whilst they waited for the ambulance and refused to take any money for the meal they had started eating. I want to say a massive thank you for the kindness shown to my mum and son, it really meant a lot. From what both my mum and son fed back, the staff were outstanding, fetching my mum cushions to make her comfortable and making cups of tea. You are all an absolute credit and so compassionate. Thank you so much.

We’ve been coming here every week for more than two years now so they must be doing something right! Great coffee, delicious sandwiches and home made cakes and friendly and efficient staff. Can particularly recommend the New Yorker sandwich, croque monsieur and the fudge brownies and carrot cake.
