Springfield Chinese Takeaway in Plymouth

Worst last minute takeaway!! Was charged £6.60 for ‘beef and Chinese cabbage,’…STILL looking for the beef,…not impressed,..the most expensive cabbage I’ve ever paid for!!

First time using this takeaway. Very disappointed. Delivered really fast which was the first bad sign. As a chef myself I thought the Portions were noticeably small. Sweet n sour king prawn balls were rubbery & overcooked. Chicken and pork balls all dry and overcooked meat. Had one of each and didn't eat the rest. S&S sauce was very strange flavour, very sour no sweet. Jumbo pancake roll was quite small with a strange flavour so I didn't eat it. House special fried Rice was soggy but edible even though the sliced meats were chewy and overdone.. I cannot honestly recommend this takeaway to anyone.

Drove far for springfield! Tasty food and lovely service over the phone and at the shop. The food was still very hot when I got home. A rare find to get good tofu too.

First time in the area on holiday and wanted a Chinese reviews looked good but after ordering from here it’s not worth it. Food tastes frozen so bland and horrible won’t be getting food from here again when we come back.

I've been getting food here for several years now and have never had anything but a great experience. Be aware that they are currently cash only, there's an ATM over the road in the co-op.

ordered egg fried rice and crispy chili beef, egg fried rice was cold, onions in it were raw. crispy chili beef was missing any chili not spicy at all, just beef in sauce. I appreciate it was quite busy as its a Saturday night, but they were trying to make these meals so fast that the quality was just terrible.

Well. First noone told me over the phone when I placed the order that it was cash only. I'm not from the area and am visiting on a baby moon as I'm due my baby very soon and was really craving a Chinese! The lady in the Chinese I guess she runs it, told me it's cash only and the cash point is across the road in the coop. Unfortunately that cash point was down and the closest one was a 5 min drive away. We headed off to that one and then headed a 5 mins drive back, over 10 mins have passed now since I walked in there. I walk back in to the lady and explained what we had to do and she then proceeds to show me a plastic wallet where you can "scan and pay" Are you taking the mick???? I've spent over 10 mins trying to find some cash! To then drive 10 mins back to our holiday park for the food to be cold!! Vile and will never be going back! Moral of the story, always check if they are cash or card! But such terrible customer service!

Most of the food is usually lovely but for some reason they have two types of satay sauce. If you are not careful you will receive a gross salty watery one so you must specifically request 'sweet satay sauce' if you want the satay sauce we are all used to

Absolutely loving it! I recently ordered from Springfield Chinese, and it was an incredible culinary experience! From start to finish, this meal left me with nothing but compliments. The delivery was always right on time, and my food arrived piping hot. They took care to ensure that my food arrived in perfect condition. I highly recommend to anyone craving exceptional food without leaving the comfort of their home. I'll definitely be ordering from them again soon!!

I’ve been coming to Springfield Chinese takeaway for years. It is without doubt the best in the area and always fast service👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

First experience of this Chinese and the whole family was impressed. Our usual had closed down and the other closer options had very long waiting times sky we thought we'd try Springfield. Overall I thought the quality was very good and we got more for our money here, compared to the same meals elsewhere. There was plenty of food, enough for as few lunches as well as 4 good sized wedding meals. We tried a variety of dishes and I enjoyed them all, from the chicken balls, crispy chill beef to the special chow mein. The staff were very friendly and polite and the for was ready when they said it would be, despite being very busy. The only negatives are minor points. The parking is a little difficult and the waiting area for do with a deep clean and a paint job. Will definitely eat here again

Ordered take away tonight at 5pm for delivery at 7pm. Nothing hd arrived by 7.30 so called shop to be told the driver ws on the way. Nothing by 8pm so called again to be told driver sd she hd been to our cabin snd there ws no one in...we were sat by the open door!! Cancelled order and will not be using again. If a mistake hs been made admit it don't lie about it.

Ordered takeaway meal at 5pm for 7pm delivery while we were on holiday. Nothing delivered by 7.30 so called them. Driver sd she hd been to us but no one in..we were sat by open door, no one hd been. Waited till 8pm and called again, still sd they hd been which they hdnt. Bad service. Used them many times but not any more. We hd driven all day and gave them 2 hours notice for delivery. Won't be using them again and advise others to be aware

We thought the reviews were decent. Sadly the food wasn’t. BBQ sauce lol. Hardly any meat in one dish. No Duck in one! Rice poor quality. Satay sauce ????? Not sure what was in that??? Mixed Vegetables, one piece broccoli, nice mushrooms, few bits of peppers, not much pack choi. Don’t want to. But I think Disgusting just about sums it up. £20 was cheap I guess. Doesn’t mean it has to be as bad as it was!

Got a really poor meal from here. Chips were stale, no care in preparation of food.

I recently ordered from Springfield Chinese and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The food I ordered was subpar, and I was left unsatisfied with my meal. Going as far as saying, it is the worse Chinese take away I have ever had. The chicken balls I ordered were soggy, lacking the crispy texture that I expect from this dish. The vegetable spring rolls were also a letdown, as they were soft and floppy, with only bean sprouts inside, lacking the usual assortment of vegetables. The other items I tried were tasteless and didn't leave an impression. What disappointed me further was that I had ordered from this restaurant a few weeks ago and encountered the same issues, but I had hoped it was a one-time occurrence. Unfortunately, it seems like the quality hasn't improved. Considering the total cost of £30 for the meal, I felt that it was a waste of money, and I will not be ordering from Springfield Chinese again. I will not be recommending Springfield Chinese to others based on my experiences.

The best Chinese in Plymstock! The food is always so good and always so fresh. Always very quick and kind service. This is my go to Chinese.

We ordered the food at 5 and rung up to double check where it was at 6. They told us it was out for delivery and arrived at 7 cold.

As the usual Chinese was closed, and the other one, we thought we'd try this one. It was good! Very good, delicious food, the best prawn crackers I've had for a while, and good size portions. Would recommend.

Staff are always friendly and food is delicious. Always have us coming back! Highly recommend

Surprisingly good food for the smaller of the Chinese takeaways in Elburton. Got given a free mystery item that turned out to be a humourously large spring roll. Will be using again.

Nice freshly cooked food, shame you dont take cards

It's the only place we'd ever go for a takeaway now, and we've been using them for over 30 years. My son has now grown and moved to Plympton, but hasn't managed to find a Chinese there that comes close to Springfield, so he travels back to this one whenever he wants a Chinese. Friendly service and almost always delivers quicker than stated on the telephone order. Recently they've started the facility of sending a link to your phone via text, so you can pay by card, which makes it extremely handy for me. The food is second to none, and arrives extremely hot. Yes, we have our favourites but occasionally we go off the wall and order something we've not had before, which is always a delight. I would highly recommend Springfield Chinese. Nina - Brixton

Los platos principales de langostinos al curry y pollo con cebolleta y jengibre eran muy buenos, al igual que los brotes de soja. El arroz frito con huevo está bien, pero lo he probado mejor en otros lugares. Nos gusta el toque agradable de las galletas de gambas de cortesía, que son muy agradables.Definitivamente volveremos a nuestro obsequio mensual regular de Springfield.Los amigos visitantes con los que hemos compartido previamente una comida de Springfield siempre han sido gratuitos y nos han envidiado cuando les contamos sobre nuestra comida más reciente.

Very very poor in ALL regards. Told it would take 50 mins to be delivered and it actually took nearly 1 hour and 50 minutes. When it finally arrived we had to cleanse the whole delivery prior to serving due to a complete explosion of the sweet and sour sauce pot. We had a whole meal missing and a rice dish missing, we also had wrong meals from what we ordered - chicken and green pepper instead of the ordered chicken satay. The batter around the chicken was so hard we needed a concrete breaker to find any meat. Finally in a bid to ensure we never order from Springfield again all meals were Luke warm at best! If you can't cope with Saturday night orders, don't take any further orders. This was our first and last time at ordering from Springfield.

Treated ourselves to a takeaway on the last night of our stay at Churchwood Valley in nearby Wembury. Tasty food and lovely owners. It was still piping hot when we got back, which was about a 10 min drive. Reasonable prices too.

Terrible! We ordered on a Saturday night and were told we would have to wait 1hr. I thought that's OK because it's a Saturday night. 1hr 45mins later after a couple of phone calls and the food arrives. Completely wrong order. I will not be using them again.

This Chinese is not as good as the reviews say my partner and me had a meal from here on Monday and we both have had food poisoning

Having never visited this Take Away before there was a degree of concern as to how I would feel about the whole experience.In situations like this I do not refer to other reviews so I can keep an open mind. The front of house is clean with hand held menus available on the counter and a large print out on the wall for you to make your choices. It is set out in two languages. There is a wide selection available . The young lady at reception was very quiet but efficient and busy. My take away selection appeared within a very reasonable period of time with telephone orders being collected throughout and new orders being received over the phone.. I spoke to all the collecting customers who said that they have ordered before and enjoyed their meal and told me that I would not be disappointed. When I returned home and served the various dishes they were very hot and very tasty . Although I enjoyed all the food I would not have some dishes again, personal preference, but would want to try others which I am sure will be fine. It would seem to me that this takeaway is worthy of another visit and I do hope that they can maintain standards, that element of their business being so important . I am looking forward to finding out.

Of all the Chinese Takeaways in Plymstock, this is by far the best. We've tried them all too! Won't be going anywhere else in the future.

First time we ordered the food was great but ever since then the quality of the food has been increasingly inconsistent. We have persisted a few times since that evening... chasing that perfect, spicy gourmet dragon... but have decided to finally give up. The dishes we order are never the same twice and the level of palatableness varies from greasy organ-clogging blandness to an overwhelming sweetness akin to molten Haribo. Sometimes dishes come sweet, other times salty. The most recent attempt at a meal came in the form of watery "peanut" satay and limp crispy chilli beef. Springfield i want to like you but you've changed, man.

Whilst on holiday in Wembury we fancied a Chinese and ordered one from Springfield.Nothing more than average is the best way to describe this Chinese. Some enjoyed their meals and others ate a mouthful before throwing it away.If you’re hungry and in the area give it a go but don’t expect too much!

I have no complaints at all. The quality of the food is always great and that’s why we have been ordering from here for years. Plenty of choice on the menu and the staff in store and delivering are always polite and friendly.

Very tasty meal, when we arrived home 3 miles away, we found one dish from the set menu was missing, on being told, Springfield very quickly delivered the missing dish along with a complementary pancake. We will definitely use them again

Never had a problem until the other night. Lady on the phone must have been new cause she was useless. Allergic to prawns so asked for my meal to come without them,and guess what!?!? Prawns in my meal,so had to through away. No veg or hardly any meat in the dish. Always order from here. Never again I’m afraid.

Family of 6 all ordered from this chinese. I am veggie so ordered from these veg dishes, and it came with one whole prawn in it. needless to say I didnt eat that pot, and therefore only pick at the egg rice as was completety put off.Everyones elses food was okay but most said they wouldnt bother ordering from there again.Quick serivce for a sunday night though.Got a free bag of something sweet but no one knew what they were.

Ordered this as just moved into the area. To be fair the duck and pancakes were great, lots of duck .The noodle soup was okay . Then it started to go right downhill .The sweet and sour was rank! Threw that away!The chicken satay went in the bin, the whole pot ! The egg fried rice was brown . And guess where that went! Yes! in the binI may just as well have eaten the £30 never again ! We were given 4 free battered balls with something white inside ( no idea what that was! ) guess where that went .

Always good quality Chinese food to take away. Excellent crispy duck, chilli beef, Chinese ribs and more. Never any issues over quality or ordering and wouldn't go anywhere else. They don't take cards so have cash ready!

My usual order has increased by £5 and very much changed in style. It was very greasy and kept me regular during the early hours. I was very disappointed after many years of regular use and will be looking elsewhere in the near future.

This place is not worth spending a single penny on you get a better meal from a frozen micro meal from the loco co op across the road or even better get some left overs from the bin and it would be better then waiting for a delivery from this place

Just moved to the area and decided on a take a way while UN packing. Could probably be the worst chinky I have ever had. How hard is to cook rice? The curry was watery and bland also the sweet and sour was awful. Won't use this again.

50 minutes to make an order ready for collection. 10 minutes to take the money.In the end, the money was left on the side after reading it from the order. And walked off without the £3 odd change as the food was getting cold.Third and final time we wait so long. Even the order was wrong. Luckily we were starved

We ordered take away over the phone here a week ago, it was awful. The food was very poor quality to say the least and the foo yung i had kept me in the loo for most of the next day. There are other chinese take aways in the area and you would best to go there and not here. The thing that lets it down is the same as many similar premises in the city, the use of very poor quality ingredients, and the (false) assumption that people in the city and generally stupid and will eat anything. No they wont. Most of the food went in the bin, we couldnt eat it.

Enjoyed the meal we picked up here to take back to plum stock relatives, Good average quality and value all round, quick too.

Words fail me, the food was so shockingly appauling we opened the containers and put it straight in the bin. Too angry to phone and complain or take it back it had already ruined our evening so didn't want to make it worse.
