Spread Eagle in Corby

Haven’t been to the Spread in a while. As a local i know from experience the pub look and label looks better than it really is. Historically the food is mediocre at best and the service has always been slow. However : They now advertise being dog friendly, I hadn’t visited for a long time, So I thought I’ll give it another chance, it could have only got better. Phoned to confirm they were serving lunch time food. No answer after 3 attempts. They must be busy! Entered an empty pub (well nearly empty,one gent and his little girl just arrived). Ordered two drinks from the young lady serving. Asked if you are serving food, “ yes”. Could I have a couple of menus please. “ They are over there” !👉🏼 Paid for the drinks by card and the card reader gives you the option to leave a tip. For what ? Good assortment of food on the menu. However relying on-my memory of past experience here, I wasn’t going to be adventurous on my first return visit for sometime. Ordered a steak sandwich and a fish finger sandwich for my wife. Fetched my own condiments , then played hunt the cutlery. Luckily the other diner found them and directed me to their whereabouts. Food arrived, fish finger sandwich cold, steak sandwich cold. Sides of chips cold. How can you get it so wrong. They are only sandwiches and chips 🙄 The kitchen can’t be busy there was only one other customer eating. Hunted down the young bar lady who was through the back of the bar area. “Can I order some drinks please” “ yes wait a minute”! Ordered two more drinks, refused the card reader request for a tip again, Another elderly couple came in and i witnessed the same dreadful customer service. “ Are you serving food?” “ Yes”. Can I see the menus “over there” 👉🏼 The young lady collected the plates, didn’t ask how was the food. If the food isn’t up to standard I normally make my thoughts known to the staff. It allows them to comment, On this occasion due to the young ladies apathy and lack of customer service skills I made the educated guess that no matter what I said I’m certain the young bar lady really wouldn’t care less and I would be wasting my breath. So we left without comment. Parking: 10/10 Surroundings and cleanliness : 8/10 Customer service: 2 Speed of service 4/10 Food standard : 4 Drinks: 25% of beers weren’t available However my pedigree bitter was nice. 6/10 I won’t be back

This placed used to be great with great food whats happened !! Service was slack to say the least wrong orders to start ordered 2 soups only got 1 as the person was to busy daydreaming about going home and the 2 lamb shank dinners mine was cold ! I don’t think they know how to use a food thermometer Toilets absolutely discussing whats happed to this place ?

Great food with very friendly staff. We come here a few times a month & we are always made to feel welcome. The managers are so kind when it comes to making dogs feel welcome too making a fuss of them & making sure they have water & treats.

We had a table booked for 1pm for 10 family members to celebrate mothers day. We turned up and made the staff aware that we had arrived. As we had pre booked the meals we expected them to turn up soon. After 45 minutes we spoke to a staff member and said where was our food. She seemed quite surprised obviously not knowing that we had pre booked so an obvious lack of communication. When the food started to arrive after another 40 minutes there were missing items. We had said some fries and a kiddies meal was missing. Instead of fries we were given chunky chips which we returned and eventually got fries. The kids meal was a burger and was served up as raw as anything, disgusting. The outside smoking area decking was pretty rotten, you felt like your foot would go through the decking at anytime and clearly the ashtrays were not emptied as they were overflowing with fag butts. We asked to speak to a manager and was told that they had gone home. We did get a discount off our meal but unfortunately we will not be returning. We were not the only family to be complaining on the day and most people that we spoke to felt that the place was looking run down and neglected. The staff seemed disinterested and obviously poorly managed. This place used to be a nice place to go to however I would not recommend this now to anyone.

I booked The Spread Eagle for Mother's Day lunch at 1pm for five of us, thinking it would make a pleasant change. I received an email asking me to pre-book our menu choices, and after a few queries (which were responded to quickly) our choices for starters and main were emailed to them the week before. We arrived in good time, gave the staff behind the bar our name, and were shown to our reserved table. On sitting down at our table, I trod on what I first thought was dropped food. Unfortunately, it was a 'gift' on the carpet, left by a visiting dog, which was now all over my boot. We informed the staff who were as shocked as we were, and offered us another table while they cleaned the carpet (and I went outside to clean my boot). They said we could have drinks on the house, but we had already ordered and paid for drinks. At about 1.25pm I went to ask if our food would be coming out soon. The female staff looked confused and said we should have told the staff when we arrived, so the kitchen could be informed. I tried to explain that the food was pre-ordered and as we'd given our name on arrival, we naturally thought this would suffice. No apology offered, but after 10 to 15 minutes, our starters arrived. After another shorter wait, four of the mains were brought out, and we waited for the fifth. A staff member came over and asked "Is there anything missing?" to which my husband replied, "Yes, my meal". He had to tell her what he'd ordered and it was eventually brought out, after the rest of us had pretty much finished eating. The food was not brilliant (we've eaten here before on several occasions with no problems). At best it was pretty average with poor presentation, but the service was very poor with the staff appearing to be inexperienced and disorganised, trying to cope with difficult situations. Another larger group were also having problems and asked to speak to the manager, but were told she'd left the building. It's such a shame that a once brilliant pub with great facilities has deteriorated to this low standard. The staff need more support and more training and there should be better communication between kitchen and front of house staff. The staff appeared to lack experience and there didn't seem to be anyone around to manage the issues or give guidance. They reduced our bill by 30% (£15 deducted) but this was sadly not a pleasurable or relaxing Mother's Day meal out!

Great customer service from Jordan, attentive and welcoming Super atmosphere and lovely warm vibe in the pub, which is dog friendly also

Came on a very quiet part of the day. All the food came out at a decent time in-between courses. It was all fresh and really hot, clearly the high standards carried on even when it was quiet. The gentleman at the bar was really friendly and was nice to hear him talk to the local customers. Hidden gem, so much better than the last time I was here about ten years ago. (Also I love the portion size of the chips on my burger, I doubled the fries and there was so much!) 10/10

Very friendly atmosphere very kind front of house staff member Jordan and great food from Tom the chef. As soon as we walked in the door we was served by a very friendly Jordan he showed a great knowledge of the items in the menu as we was struggling to decide what to order.

We came here for our wedding anniversary. We chose here as its local and thought it would be a nice change to our usual restaurant. What a massive disappointment. We waited an hour for our meals. We only got them when we asked what had happened. My meal was good but smaller than expected and my husbands meal was extremely over cooked. I’m wondering whether it was forgotten on the side and reheated when we asked about our missing meals. We definately won’t be returning.

Great food, atmosphere & service. The bar staff are so bubbly & give such a warm welcome. The food was fantastic best steak I've had in a very long time. Can't wait to try the new menu. Definitely be back again soon.

Called in on the off chance for a drink & dinner. Ordered a pint of bier morreti & a j2o which came to £8.80 which I thought was a tad expensive.ordered our food which was gammon with 2 eggs chips onion rings peas and hunters chicken and chips for dinner tonight. Ten minutes after placing our order the barman came over to tell me they had ran out of eggs and was there an alternative I wanted as I can't eat pineapple I said no and then he said he will take £2.00 off my next drink which he never did. The gammon I had was not very enjoyable as half of it was very chewy with it being very fatty chips were nice as was the hunters chicken sorry spread but I will never come back the worst meal I have ever had.

Well where to begin with this disaster - I last went to the pub in 2017 when I vowed due to poor service (food coming out at all different times when in a group, food being missing and of various quality standards) that I would never return but Xmas Day 2023 my family had booked for a fee of over £100 per adult head. Atmosphere - well no atmosphere you'd expect on Xmas Day, no Christmas music , no host to greet or take you to your table (just pointed at), made to wait over ten minutes queuing at the bar to know to be seated, no smiles, no cheer, very down beat almost depressing. One particular member of staff who seemed to be quite senior was rude and seemed particularly unhappy to be working. Food - Wine - for the price the wine was of such poor quality, one red and white on the table. The white was so low poor it wasn't finished/ Crackers - the cheapest crackers that could be found, really poor standard. Apart from that you wouldnt even know it was christmas on the table. For the price very very poor. Starter - came out at different times missing people completely, starters missing parts, one starter cold when should have been warm. Probably the best course of a poor set meal. Main - the worst Sunday roast/xmas dinner I have ever seen or had to eat. The colour of the brussel sprouts/brocolli was slime green and I've never tasted anything worse than that in my life. It was cooked during the week, frozen then reheated and kept warm during the day. Turkey was the dryest, almost uncuttable. Gravy/small portion cranberry sauce had been put on the plate for you (no pot of you to put your own on or add anymore), the yorkshire pudding was so over done it disintrgated into crumbs on touch (again inedible). The pigs in blankets looked anaemic, close to being uncooked. Portion size was particulary small, again for the price and the amount of food received/quality of product it was poor and not worth the money spent. I never don't eat my food and to have not consumed at least half of my xmas meal was disappointing (most was ate because I was over hungry at this point). Again meal brought out at different times, and this one was almost put on the table five mins after finishing the starter. Just so poor, everything including the experience. Dessert - over an hour wait between main and dessert and again brought out at different times, having to ask where certain peoples were. Mine was a mint chocolate pudding and it tasted so cheap, of cheap strong mint mouthwash but by this point everyone was so hungry I ate it all. With covid and supporting local businesses, this was the reason we choice to come here after having a great experience at the trading post, Kettering the year previous. The price outrageous, the food abysmal, the service poor, the venue lacking any charisma or charm, almost dead and wont be returning at any point ever again. One of the young children we were with said to give the review a 1/10 which is so sad. We had fun regardless of this but knew we'd have to revisit the poor service and experience via reviews at a later date. So so poor :(

Always great, friendly staff and good food. Go here every year for Christmas never had a bad experience.

It was a great meal and the bar staff were lovely will definitely go again. Everyone enjoyed their time at the spread eagle.

3rd December 2023 We were so disappointed with our meal and general experience at The Spread Eagle. We had booked this meal with friends that are family to us and had travelled from Essex to Corby for an early celebration Christmas meal together. We had booked on-line on 2nd November and specifically asked for wheelchair access. When we arrived this had not been taken into account by staff, the table should have been pre-arranged and set ready for us. The area of the restaurant we were in was cold which and not at all comfortable for us nor indeed for our most senior of our party a VIP lady of 92 years. Drinks were very slow in arriving one of which was forgotten, along with a requested extra wine glass. We were then welcomed with the knowledge that mac & cheese was off the menu, along with steak and rice. Staple products on your menu which should be well stocked. We proceeded to order our starters, prawn cocktails but yet again was informed that they had no prawns!... and that these are not ordered in as no one usually asks for them. One would question why they are still on the menu. Music had been requested twice which took a long while to get sorted. We appeared to be “out on a limb” where we were forgotten, but we soon realised that there were not enough staff on to run the Sunday lunch service. We had a 12.30pm booking and actually received our meal at 2.00pm. Starters were a long while in being served and the main course even slower. “Pigs in Blankets” were offered as complimentary as we had an extensive waiting time. We were asked if we had everything that we needed and was ok and then left. When the table was being cleared after mains we were was asked if we were happy with our meals and we informed the waitress that we were not happy. The staff were hassled and stressed it was apparent that all was not well. I asked how many were in the kitchen and was told 1 person. I was astonished, this is definitely not acceptable. I am appalled that the management had not sorted this issue. If staff had not turned up for their shifts there should be a back up list to call upon other staff to come in to assist. Work as a team and sort your problems out, and if no one else was available there was no excuse for not calling us to re-arrange our booking. Both me and my husband complained to the waitress, (I hasten to add, none of this is her fault), and asked to speak with the manager but was told that best we complain on-line. We asked for a reduction on the bill but was told that the “Pigs in Blankets” were the complementary item. The staff need better direction and training in what hospitality means and most definitely more “hands to the pump”. I have worked in the hospitality industry and the way that this restaurant is being run is a disgrace, no stock, no ambience, no welcome, and no idea!! We were shocked that our long-awaited Christmas get together was ruined by this farce, do not blame the kitchen staff they are only coping with what little direction they are being given. Wake up before the real Christmas rush starts do not disappoint any other families.

We popped in after a family gathering to top the day off with a few drinks and a game of pool.We ordered 1 glass of wine chardonnay ! We ain't got that a very sarcastic girl! Replied ,so we picked another, ordered a certain beer ,We ain't got that came the next response from the same girl! What vodkas do you have ? Smirnoff ! came the same reply etc ,You get the picture Can I get a bottle of coke please to go with my vodka? We don't do bottles came the same response again from the girl! Absolute joke.So the story goes we ended up with 2 beers ,a glass of wine and a vodka topped up with flat coke sweet and horrid from a draft tap,for Twenty three pounds.we had one other couple in the whole place and it was freezing.Im all for benefit of the doubt considering the road problems they've had etc.But the frosty sarcastic service,and the distane we felt ,never again and we are local to the place but there are limits and thats us done with it.

As a 70 year old member of a walking group of 40 people on a pre-arranged Christmas mid-day Meal, it has to have been the worst experience in a restaurant I have every had in my life, anywhere in the world. Meals from 1st to the last being served took over 2hrs, with frozen vegetables still frozen, stuffing balls so hard impossible to cut, let alone eat, parsnips un-cooked , and everything served cold. Most leaving the restaurant earlier, because of time restraints having been in the restaurant over 4hrs, before the tables had been cleared and the third course even mentioned, let alone served. When we came to pay, service was none existent, walking around looking for someone, eventually finding someone to pay, only be told, as we had pre-booked 3 course meals so we had to pay for them.

After watching my lad play Rugby in Kettering we stopped here on the way home. The food was spot on a great value and the team were very attentive. Would recommend to anyone regardless of reason for visit based on experience today.

Spent the afternoon here with the family. The kids loved the play area especially the goal that they could play football in. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. We will return next time we are passing.

I have not been in this pub for many many years and took my dad for a revisit and it's nothing like it was, all fixed up and open plan unlike the separate restaurant days, much less seating and separate seating areas, all smart looking...
