The restaurant's environment was pretty good and the waiters were efficient. The food was ok; let's say that the food was quite average.

Overall our experience was acceptable however there are a few observations that could be improved. Staff were helpful and appeared in control of a busy restaurant, they were quick and friendly. The decor is a little drab and lacking in colour and is ready for a make over. The upholstery on the chairs is dirty and they are all in need of cleaning or replacing, you don't really like touching the chair arms! Food was served quickly and portions were good.

Went today for a Sunday lunch - incl. their carvery. I was so disappointed as I would have liked to have tried their different meats, but when I came up to get the second time, I was told I had to pay again. Staff had not informed you only could have once, and with only two paper-thin slices of beef and pork the first round, I found that very poor service. I did not want to mix everything up at the first round, and get turkey and gammon soaked in bloody beef gravy hence I would try that the second round. For £17,- you get a ridiculous tiny amount of meat and a quite rude staff member serving. Why on earth do you have to pile all you want at once on your plate and then look like a greedy bastard? Further to this, the staff couldn't hurry enough to give us the bill as they apparently wanted the table. Bare in mind, they took 45 min, to start serving us from when we arrived at the pre-booked time. All in all a quite disappointing visit, and I would not recommend the place. We have a few Air BnB properties in the area and we will not recommend this place to our customers, but there are fortunately much better places in the area. We would highly recommend The George and Dragon in Seaton instead.

On parking we walked past the unmown grass, the unpruned shrubs, and the planter outside the front door full of cigarette butt's and I knew we should have turned around. On entering we were offered a table and I took in the decoration. From the outside you imagine log fires, horse brasses, pumps with fox hunting scenes etc. Once through the door that dream of a quintessential English pub is shattered by the horrific minimalist desolation that confronts you and then you look up and see plastic flowers on the ceiling and the tragedy is complete. The crowning glory on this disappointing experience was the self service buffet. Brown overcooked beef, mushy over cooked Brocoli, further mush in a tray (possibly carrot or potato of suede or a combination of one or the other), surprise nice (shock horror) roast carrots and parsnip, rock hard stuffing, reasonable yorshire puddings, and then the roast potatoes which looked chewy and greasy and tasted exactly as they looked - they really were the worst roast potatoes I've ever eaten. I could go on yo mention the cobwebs in the window, or the sugar on the windowsill, or the stains on the radiators, or the dust on the table joists but to be honest they complimented every other aspect of the Sondes experience. It really is such a shame as this pub has so much potential but sadly everything about the place is in need of improvement.

The carvery has gone down hill since I last went. Everything used to be fresh and homemade. Frozen broccoli, could tell the cauliflower cheese was also frozen with some grated cheese on. Meat was okay but port and turkey very dry. The roast potatoes were awful, tasted like reheated microwave one. Everything had no taste… carrots and parsnips were home made but no garlic or honey on them. The Yorkshire pudding was a small frozen one. Stuffing was tasteless. £47 for 2 Pepsi max and 2 carvery’s. I wouldn’t go back… very disappointed as it used to be such good food and didn’t mind paying the extra for home made. Really disappointed - in and out in half an hour on a Sunday afternoon.

Booked for 9, family meal to celebrate an 18th and a 40th birthday. Staff were polite and friendly, however service was extremely slow. Starters were ok, soup was questionable as to flavour (leek & potato)2 out of 3 were eaten, other starters were fine. 3 of the 9 ordered from the menu, 6 carvery, 2 meals were brought out, no one said we could go upto carvery, so one of us asked, told to make our way up, only Turkey available, gammon needed another 15 mins!!!! So we waited, the other meal brought out 10 mins after the other 2, we were then told gammon is out, other 3 had finished, turkey was dry, gammon was extremely fatty, stuffing actually could not be cut with a knife as was rock hard, some of carrots/parsnips were undercooked, rest of veg tasteless, 4 of us took a couple of bites and couldn’t eat it, one of us didn’t think it was too bad, and the 6th took her meat home for her dog. 4 desserts ordered, were all ok apart from 2 x sticky toffee pudding not being hot. Very disappointing as had nice enough carveries before, especially as we were all looking forward to it. They did remove 4 x carvery from the bill, but will definitely think twice before returning

Ordered straight away , told the mashed potatoe was not ready yet , it would be about 10/15 mins . Ordered a bottle of wine and told the waitress I was treating my brother cos it was his birthday …….. she didn’t acknowledge it and said nothing . Eventually at 1.15 our lunch came , steak pie had 4 small pieces of beef in it , tiny bit of broccoli & leek , average mash potatoes . Had been there about a year ago and was fabulous, not now . This used to be a great place to eat, with good wholesome food and we have been having family gatherings here for years BUT NO MORE. Just a carvery meal. £19.50!!! Waited an hour for our food and 12 out of 16 of us were having carvery. Small children also waited an hour for dinner. There were plenty of staff, standing around chatting, every time I went to the bar. The meat was nice but that’s all. Not a fresh cooked vegetable in sight. All frozen or processed. Couldn’t find any broccoli in the broccoli bake and it tasted horrible anyway. The vegetables burgers were OK but had a strange texture. Since I have been lots of people in Corby have said the same. Not good food or service anymore and not going back.

The service today was very slow, the carvery was only warm and the roast potatoes were burnt and very hard to cut as they tasted as if they had been sat there for a long time, the veg was quite tough too not very fresh. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our desert to come out after asking the waittress where it was. We had also been seated by the door that led to leaving the pub and the toilets so kept getting a very cold draught while eating, maybe don't put a table so close to the door.

Felt I had to leave review after seeing some of the others. Firstly, probably best if you're not in a rush, it did take a while to get served and for the food to arrive. But that's the only negative. Lots of other reviews complaining that the staff were young, not really sure why that's worth mentioning, are students not allowed to work anymore? They were all polite to us. As for the food, we ordered from the Christmas lunch menu. Two of us are vegetarian and one is vegan, unusually there were plenty options. For the nut roast you get to choose from the carvery veg and it's all clearly labelled. Veggie gravy, roasties, stuffing and loads of other options were available. Deserts were good too, trillionaires tart is vegan and looked delicious. Overall, one of the best veggie Christmas lunches we've had in the area for a while, £22.50 for 2 courses is good value. First time we've been here in years and will definitely return.

Attended with a group for a Christmas lunch due to be served at 1:00pm. The menu was for 2or 3 courses but tables were only laid with knives and forks. Starters queue. when we got to the carvery our hearts sank the Turkey & Beef were well over done and the vegetables were a sad sight including under & overdone. On eating the Beef was tender roast potatoes hard un-cuttable all veg cold. The last diner to eat main was at 3:15. Finally a sweet of fruit crumble was a joy, but it was calculated that approx. 50 g custard is a portion served in a breakfast jam pot. Will not return for further punishment and insult. What do you do when you walk into this place with an ADUK registered Assistance Dog only to be told that the two tables in the area designated for dogs are both taken, as it happens by dog-free couples? You try to explain that a disabled person can take their Assistance Dog anywhere and that a table in the restaurant will be just fine. The often used excuse of allergies is trotted out and despite being advised that this discrimination breaks the Equality law, you are refused entry. You leave, that's what you do, and vow never to darken their doors again. The Tea Rooms next door welcomed us, found a table with space for my Hearing Dog, brought water, a couple of biscuits and was interested to hear how he works with me. What a difference!

I've been a customer of The Sondes Arms in Rockingham for years, not frequently but often enough to enjoy the great food and lovely atmosphere. So it was disappointing to be turned away for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon, especially when there were plenty of empty tables available. We hadn't booked a table, but given the space, it didn't seem like it should have been an issue. That said, it's actually great news to see a small village pub so busy that they can turn customers away during tough economic times. Clearly, they're doing something right! However, it’s a shame to have had this experience, as I’m sure they could have easily accommodated two willing paying customers. Unfortunately, negative experiences tend to linger, so I won't be rushing back anytime soon. In hindsight, there wasn’t any clear notice online saying bookings were required, and it felt like a missed opportunity for the pub to welcome all potential customers. Still, good for them for doing so well—just not ideal for the average visitor

The Sondes Arms - it tries hard but something is lacking. We dined here on a Friday evening - one of the Carvery evenings. We dined early so the carvery was just starting. It looked great on the hot plates with plenty of choice and good looking joints of meat. We didn't partake but many of those who were also dining did, so it clearly remains very popular. We decided to eat a couple of meals from the menu - not an extensive menu but one that covers what you would expect … some steaks, some pie, some chicken dishes, a curry and so on. The meals were okay - hot, decent sized portions - but they felt like meals that had been bought in. The curry, especially, had a supermarket, microwave, quality to it that whilst edible, made you feel like you were not getting value for money. The garlic bread flatbread was bland and is not to be recommended. For the other meal, the chips were nice but the chicken was a little dry. We have visited the Sondes many times over the past decade or so (and held a couple of large celebratory gatherings there) and this visit was probably the most disappointing of all of them. The staff are friendly and attentive, the environment is well maintained and tidy, the place is popular (or was on this evening) but, even so, I'm not sure we would rush back for another meal.

Sunday dinner at the Sondes Arms was a nice treat and an escape from doing a Sunday dinner yourself. Not anymore. I don’t know if there has been a change in ownership, but the quality is not what it once was. The starters felt like it had come straight out of a packet from Iceland. The main carvery was ok. But just ok. The vegetable selection was good but the cauliflower cheese, although hot, the cauliflower was barely cooked and still hard. Everything just lacked seasoning. The salt and pepper on the table was from Aldi. I don’t have an issue with Aldi. But in a restaurant I don’t think that is appropriate. The dessert was definitely out of a packet and shop brought. When you are charging the prices that they are you expect something homemade. The staff need some training on how to take a drinks order. When you order a gin and tonic, the tonic should come separately from the gin. Not fully emptied into your drink. It is always a shame when you see a venue start to decline in this way. The prices do not reflect the quality anymore. No longer value for money.

Steak Frites was disappointing, chewy steak and overcooked fries, and no salad or vegetables with it, and we were overcharged £2 per plate for it on the first bill they issued. The carvery looked good, but the 3 people who had it have had 48 hours of food poisoning symptoms (I won't elaborate), and not completely better yet, we suspect the cauliflower cheese. Service was insanely slow; it took us over an hour to get a main course, and then when we finished our dessert we were asked if we could hurry along because the table was needed for the next booking. Atmosphere was like a creche; noisy, children running around, standing on chairs and sitting on tables - this isn't Sondes Arms fault necessarily, but it ruined a Sunday lunch out. I noted in our booking through OpenTable that it was my dads birthday, but it wasn't even mentioned by the waiting staff on arrival or during the meal. We won't be returning.

I like dropping in here, sometimes for a good roast or most recently for a couple of pints on a walk.

Visited here on Sunday evening, to celebrate my birthday. Did not realise it was a carvery until we arrived, it was chosen more because it was serving food on a Sunday evening, where lots of other places were not. The Sunday menu was slightly restrictive, would have preferred a larger choice. Chose the carvery in the end as I did not want a steak or a burger, other choices on the menu. The meat was tender (beef, pork and turkey). The veg was slightly more al dente than we preferred, and some could have done with a bit more seasoning, but that was my preference. The main seating area where we were seated was very busy and quite noisy, if there had been room we would have preferred a table in the main part of the pub rather than the carvery area. Saying all that we would go back as for £15.95 you got a lot of food for the price and one of the better ones we have been to. Tips: Book early, expect it to be noisy but also expect some good food.

What a fantastic beautiful pub. We stopped in as a group of four, we did book I advance and they managed to get us a really nice table. The waiting staff were amazing and made sure we were well looked after. We had the Carvery, which was perfect. Also the bar staff were just as friendly and very polite and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area, looking for a nice friendly pub for a drink or meal. Definitely five stars all around.

Really good carvery and good beer. Atmosphere was a little too much like a canteen but still really nice. Be good if some of the outdoor seating was in the sun and not all inside the wooden seating area but would return again.

Disgusting behaviour from the manager, arrogant and defensive about his disgusting vegetable soup that didn’t even have one bit of taste. I approached so nicely and looked around for staff to speak to about it. Food was disgusting and he basically chucked the receipt at us telling us not to come back. Absolute disgrace since management has changed.

Had a couple of pints in there, beer was fresh and nice, service was great! Ordered a burger and chips, not sure what to expect, the chips was lovely, soft in the inside an crispy on the outside, really tasty, burger was a big double, lots of cheeses etc, felt like I was eating it for ages it was so big, but super tasty till the last bite! I love a burger an order then regular from all sorts of places but this was lovely, was great food! Will go back for sure!!

Tried Ali’s for the first on Monday, I thought it was the best Indian i had ever eaten!. And looked forward all week to my next Night off work and my next order!. I ordered exactly the same meal. Absolutely swimming in grease! And The rice was just the same and tasted terrible. Must of been a different chef on tonight. Because Tuesday’s meal was just amazing. I’m sorry but it was such a big disappointment. The lot was thrown into the bin.
