Big spacious bar, fab booths for 4 people, we had chicken wings which were delicious and nachos which were a tad disappointing, staff were friendly and chatty, we would have been happy to spend the afternoon there, and continue to enjoy the slippery nipples (which were fab) how ever when a football game came on (and we were aware it was a sports bar) the volume was ridiculously high, we couldn't hear ourselves speak, she we headed off to another pub

Food was average but who is here for the food? The sheer number of screens is just incredible. I think you'd struggle to find a blind spot in this bar showing just about every game on. Amazingly got your own tv in the booth seats as well. Quite an experience.

A large sports bar a block away from the Royal Mile with about 50 screens, some in booths, so you can watch your own TV and choose your sports channel. Food good and staff pleasant. Prices also reasonable. We were there to watch the Europa League Final, and they probably needed one more member of staff to cut down the time waiting to be served. Downside is that to get to the loo, you need to go down about 30 steps.

Used to go to this bar regularly a year or so ago but stopped going after a couple of bad experiences. Decided to give it another chance as a friend of a friend recommended it to me.Went in on a Tuesday night for the Newcastle game, bar was busy but not overly so, we were able to grab one of the booths with its own TV. Bar staff were friendly and efficient, pint prices are a bit steep but no more so than most places in the city centre. Our server, Eva I think, was great, we'd only ordered some wings to share but she made sure to check up on us regularly. Food arrived quickly and was piping hot.All in all it wasthe perfect place to enjoy some drinks and football on a Tuesday night, I'll be back.

Went here in April 2016 with a large group to watch a football game. Bar is big enough that you will not be waiting long for a drink even if it is full, like it was when we went. There are no big table but in general a group of 14 won't get seats together in most bars. Bar service was quick and the staff friendly enough. After the football some stayed for food. Service was slow and the food was not that great but you don't go to a place like Sportsters for the food. Once the football was over the pub emptied quick and it is so big that it was devoid of any atmosphere. There are much better pubs in Edinburgh so if your group is not ten plus or really interested in sport I would avoid this place. However if you have a big group and there is a big game I would give it a go, just go somewhere else for food though! Would say the location is ideal if you want a quick drink before or after the train as it is right opposite Waverly Station.

I came to Edinburgh to visit friends and they chose to go this place for a drink. Upon arriving at the bar we waited a few minutes to be greeted, when we asked what deals they had on we were given quite a rude "For?" Once it had been established that it was for drinks we were given a list of drinks offers. We all decided to go for the mojitos that they had on offer. Now even though I appreciate that this establishment is not a cocktail bar, we all felt that the woman serving us thought we had just ordered the most awkward round of drinks. Whilst waiting for these drinks we asked how we could get a Guiness hat since it was St. Patrick's day, we were snapped at for asking this and told you couldn't just have a hat you had to buy a pint of Guiness golden ale. My whole party work within the hospitality industry and I have never received such a hostile reception from a barmaid, who to make matters worse looked as if she was one of the managers. We left after just one drink since we didn't want to go back up to the bar and be spoken to rudely again.

I booked a table to watch the rugby as well as have something to eat. The table has its own tv so you can watch it right there. The portion sizes of meals are quite big. I had the sweet potato fries with garlic mayo dip and nachos and I couldn't finish it all. The only downfall was they had ran out on a lot of their beer bottles. I wanted a Scottish one since I was watching the Scotland v France game, but the had run out, but the one the barman recommended and I got I didn't like. It was an American ale called 13 guns, this is the only reason they are not getting an excellent. I also got ice cream later and some soda water and lime and it came to about £22 all together. Nothing to do with this bar, but was well chuffed Scotland beat France for the first time in over a decade! Yay!I would definitely come back here again to watch the rugby, or other sporting events, but I will probably just order from tap if they don't have the bottles I want, just to be on the safe side! We went there for the friends themed quiz which was advertised to start at 9pm. I joined the group at around 8.45 and wanted something to eat, whilst i was holding the menu in my hands a waiter took it off me with no explanation, which i thought was kind of rude. If the kitchen closes at 9, i get that but he could have maybe said they were closing it? The quiz started almost an hour later - again, no one came and explained this, we asked and it was because of the football. Again, fair enough but maybe let people know. As for the friends themed quiz, one if the rounds was friends themed and the other 5 were not. Anyway, we won and got a £50 bar tab which is fab and we spent it. But i dont think i'll be returning.

Sportsters has always been a favourite for us when going out for a meal or even just a few drinks, the staff are always so pleasant. We always enjoy it, one of the reasons being the kids menu which suits our daughter down to a T, she is always asked if she would like some pencils to colour in the pictures that are on the back. To which she always agrees of course. The other perks of going here is the 'flash app' which you can download on your phone for free, it has great offers such as money off your bill. My friends and I were shown to our table immediately upon entry to the bar by the waitress who looked after us all night ensuring we had enough drinks. Unfortunately we did encounter a slight problem when ordering our food from the limited menus, as the kitchen had run out of nachos and chicken wings which were the main things we wanted to order. However the waitress was very friendly and regularly checked on us which was amazing as the place was extremely busy and she had other tables to deal with. The venue its self definitely lived up to its name as a sports bar with all its TVs and massive projects to show the game we had a great view all night. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the waitress and the bar team for looking after us all night and making our first visit to Edinburgh a memorable one.

(Advert said £5 entry after 8pm, no one was coleecting until well after). We had a great time and didnt even mind that they started running out of beer early on. The food was adequate and again ran out. The most annoying thing was as soon as the game finished the sound was off and 5 minutes later so was the tv. We paid to go to an advertised superbowl including seeing the lifting of the trophy. We had been told that they had an extended licence for this and this is why we went. this spoiled the night for us. Definitely don't recommend this place. Terrible experience at Sportsters. We called up to see if they were televising a NFL playoff game on Sat night (9:20pm) and told us yes. Great, we're all there watching on a small screen and spending money like good customers. With 1:35 left in regulation and the possibility of anything happening at the end of the game, at 12:45 am (their suppose to be open until 1am, though their the web says 3am), their large, non customer-centric bouncer insists we all have to leave the bar. He constantly insists. We ask to speak to the manager and he does not comply and stubbornly insists we leave and won't let us see the last minute of this playoff game. Btw, this place does not feel like a sports bar, on the first floor they have some DJ playing loud/bad music to basically an empty room and no real sports on their tele's. The quality of their large tele is really poor, think the early large RBG bar screens of the 1970's. LOL. To sum up: it's not a sports bar, poorly managed, and overall this is one big "deflate-gate".

So she came over to me and said people come in at 6:30 to dance and have dates. I looked around no one was dancing no one was really in the bar but a few people in the back. I was visiting Edinburgh with friends on a Saturday in December to do some Christmas shopping and decided to give Sportsters a try because it was so handy for the train station. Although it was a Saturday afternoon and not evening, the atmosphere in this bar was incredible! There were a lot of groups in watching the sport on their array of tv's but the atmosphere was still very much family friendly. As a group of women out for the day we decided to have some cocktails and despite not expecting a vast amount from a Sports Bar we were pleasantly surprised! The member of staff that served us knew exactly what he was doing and even helped us with a few suggestions. We decided to stay and have some food. The wait time for food was a bit longer than we'd hoped but to be fair the bar was extremely busy at the time. The waitress that served us was polite, bubbly and apologised for our wait. We left shortly after our dinner but we'll definitely be making more visits to Sportsters when we're in Edinburgh!

The service was great, the food delicious and I accept our first visit does not represent what this place is all about. So please give them a chance. Well done for holding your hands up and going the extra mile, Appreciated.

Meet up with friends at sportsters for a catch up and lunch. Pretty convenient being so close to the station for all of us coming from different places. We were shown to a booth by a member of staff who was polite and courteous. We ordered burgers, nachos and fajitas ... Food was exactly what we expected for sports bar... Decent portions, tasty and presented well. We ordered cocktails and the bar staff were lovely and helpful giving us recommendations and were more than happy to make each of us something different. We were given a booth which made it nice and private for us to have a good gossip. Being a sports bar it's not something that would normally bring us in but the service we had today will ensure we return!!

Was only in town for a few days with the family, and decided to pay sportsters a visit of a Friday evening. The bar was busy, though we still managed to grab one of the last tables, and we were pleasantly surprised by the live music. Two young guys playing acoustic covers, was absolutely great! Got some drinks at the bar and then sat down at the table and had a look at the menu. Had a decent selection, and was all reasonably priced, only down side was no kids options. Spoke to a member of staff, who was happy to offer us kid sized portions of some regular menu options, and who then came back a few minutes later to take out order, even though I'm sure I saw most people ordering at the bar. Food was prompt though there was a small mistake missing some sweet potato fries, however our waitress swiftly resolved the issue and our bill was adjusted accordingly. However the food itself was good, and reasonably priced.Overall had a great experience in sportsters, and would definitely come back again, especially to watch sport. Could see about a dozen TVs from where we were sitting alone! And our table had its own TV AND volume! Toilets were clean and tidy, as was the bar in general, and even though the staff were clearly busy, our waitress made sure to look after us. Very Impressed!

Worst service by far I received in any pub!! While we were waiting for someone to arrive on the train, we decided to go for a cup of coffee in this pub. 17 minutes we waited for our 2 cups of coffees and when it arrived it looked and tasted terrible, needless to say we left it untouched and left.

Sports bars are pretty much the same everywhere so what makes a good one is atmosphere and service. Sadly the Sportster had neither. Freezing cold, no atmosphere whatever and really poor bar staff. Can't recommend and definitely won't go there again.

Spacious bar with large screens to watch sport as well as individual TVs in the booths, really handy! The staff are friendly. Only cons were it's pricey on the gin (not a really surprise though) and the toilets were pretty rank, a definite hover job. Otherwise not a bad bar to watch the match in.

We were visiting Edinburgh and wanted to watch the Patriots vs Denver football game. American football in Scotland? We searched the web and finally found the Sportsters Bar. We walked in and saw tons of TV's and knew this was our place. Even the booths had individual tv's. When we got there, we asked if they could put the game on the large screen tv. They not only did that, they put the sound on their sound system too. We found them to be very accommodating. We didn't order any food so can't speak to that. But if you want a few drinks and watch a sports program, this is the place for you too!

Place is terrible. Really sticky floors, ripped seat covers, TV screens are mostly poor quality, toilets stink and are in disrepair. Not sure who is managing this place but it’s a disaster. Either that or it has no funds to sort this mess out. And I would never eat here! Only a matter of time before it closes surely. Shame as its in a great location for visiters to Edinburgh. Avoid, plenty of decent places to eat or drink nearby.

Very disappointed in this place. We had 2 burgers and could not eat them, even after complaining they just said they were 'experimenting' with seasonings........yuk, tasted like mould...Really ruined my day in Edinburgh, would NEVER go back....shame as it was a nice place and the drinks were good value. I also see that someone else has commented the same. Our chips were cold and not fresh probable re heats or scraped off someone else's plate...seriously do not risk this place for food....should carry a health warning.

Burgers smelled more like old frankfurters, coleslaw surely was old and chips were cold as well fried in very, very, very old oil.... I would pay for that maybe £5. More then falf of it was left.Nobody asked if that was ok during the meal. Cleanness of the place also need number of improvement especially toilets and sticky floor. Bar people very nice. Place went downhill a lot. Shame as I really enjoyed that bar.

I was there a couple of times while the Ryder Cup was on. The first day we sat upstairs where we could find a seat & watch some Ryder Cup competition. The waiter came up to serve another table. when we asked him to order food he said they were too busy to take orders upstairs (it was far from busy in North American terms, but we went downstairs & ordered). Food was decent, typical Nachos & Finger foods the first day. Getting a dring at the bar was painful & slow.Day 2 we went in after we returned from the Ryder Cup matches. We ordered food & the waiter came back after we'd already paid for the meal, & told us they were all out of chicken for the nachos, & for the club sandwich. We made due, & simply got something without chicken. They were also out of most draft beers that Sunday night, but we made due with Fosters.Slow, ineffective service, but polite enough. Decent place to catch sports on the TV, but be prepared to wait for drinks etc.

Having had a really nice meal in Sportsters, we booked a table for a Saturday afternoon during the Edinburgh Festival. We had booked a table and were shown to a small table for two up stairs. Overall it was not a great experience as the chicken fajitas were poor, bland and greasy and our waiter had to keep checking with a colleague every time we asked a question. The waitress said she would raise our concerns with the Kitchen. We contacted Sportsters regarding our experience, and received an apology from the management who invited us back to try them again. We booked a table and got a nice big booth intended for four on the ground floor, quite near the bar. Plenty of room for the two of us.Service this tome was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly, knew her job and made us feel welcome. This time we tried tempura battered chicken strips to share as a starter. The chicken was lovely and succulent with a nice tasty sauce, and the batter light, not greasy. We followed this with lamb burgers. These were extremely tasty, full of flavour and juicy. One was the Chicago cheeseburger, with mature cheddar and extra jalapeños. The other was a “Chewbaccaroni”. Pepperoni, chorizo, back bacon, and montery jack cheese. We also swapped the normal fries for the sweet potato fries, and ordered a portion of onion rings. All cooked perfectly, a really excellent meal. We learnt that they have employed a new chef since our last visit. Seems like an excellent move.We had lager and vodka to drink, both of which are reasonably priced.A really great experience, excellent service, and great food. Thoroughly recommended. Thanks to our waitress for her attentiveness and for making our meal such a success, and to Marc and Jayne for encouraging us to give Sporters another chance.

We visited the bar as it was part of the tastecard and it's another example of how the tastecard takes you to places you might not have visited. On the evening we where there (Friday) there was live music, which was surprisingly good. The bar slowly filled up, at first with people exiting the train station and just wanting a quick drink or burger, bags in tow, but as the night went on the place filled up with people enjoying a night out.The tastecard gave us 50% off the food which was already reasonably priced. The burgers are actually really nice and well presented - there are some interesting options such as peanut butter with egg but we opted for the haggis topped burger and the chorizo burger. We found the service to be slow to begin with but it did improved so no complaints overall. I would also recommend this as a place to pop into for a bite to eat before a long train journey as it directly across from the station and this is what we will probably do in future.

We have been to Sportsters several times with vouchers, as we have got fabulous deals on burgers. What we got on the deal was so filling we struggled to finish everything. The different options for burgers was fantastic and has changed since last time we visited. The service was great, we did worry the drinks would be expensive but they were reasonable. If you like burgers with different fillings this is a great place I recommend The Highlander Burger - Burger topped with haggis and whisky sauce.

Ate here on a recent trip to the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. Food was okay (see attached picture): macaroni with garlic bread, and chicken fajitas, at a price of just over £16. Drinks too were reasonable for a city centre bar. However, I'd visited previously, and on this occasion thought the place was a bit 'untidy' with several tables cluttered with empty glasses and finished plates/cutlery. And what made it worse was that the pub wasn't terribly busy, but for a group of noisy customers loudly hogging the bar. Perhaps this was the problem, as there didn't appear to be many staff on duty, and this group maybe demanded the attention of those serving. Only when they left (they appeared to be waiting on a train, and had left a large amount of luggage scattered on the pub's floor) did it appear that the staff had time to clear tables.Nonetheless, having enjoyed being in this Sportsters previously, due to the general atmosphere on this visit, it's unlikely that I would be in a rush to return.

Booked a table for 2 for 5.15pm with a groupon voucher. Upon arrival we found our table upstairs and our order was taken, drinks arrived promptly. The food did not arrive for over an hour which given that it was not busy there was no excuse for. The bowl of chips on each of our plates were stone cold- not even warm. Our waiter apologised and said he would get us fresh at which point I asked for cutlery and salt and sauces which took another 5 mins to come and I'm still waiting on the sauce. We had both just finished our burgers which were ok if abit tasteless - when the chips arrived nice and hot and crisp. Unfortunately we did not have time to eat them as we were now running late for a show. Given that Edinburgh has so many options for dinner Sportsters is best avoided unless you are into a noisy pub that serves up tasteless cold food you have to wait ages for.

We had a bit of difficulty finding the venue, but a quick telephone call to restaurant, put us on correct road to venue. On arrival, server made us feel very welcome and explained clearly what food was part of the offer we were on. We had ordered burgers and the chilli con carne topping burger was really nice. Asked the guy for 3 of the special offer on the poster behind the bar, big posters with lots of different offers, food and drinks etc, ordered 3 double smirnoff and red bull for £5.50 each so £16.50 still not really cheap but thought it was decent since it was smirnoff and a double and real red bull and not a cheap alternative, I pointed at the poster and told the guy I wanted 3 of the drinks offer and had £16.50 ready, he came back with the 3 double smirnoffs and asked for my something card, don't know what it was, snap card or something, guessing it's a student card or discount card, had no idea what he was talking about, said the drinks were £17 odd without the red bull so I had to buy red bull on top and told me this once the 3 vodkas had been poured, i said to him why have big posters behind the bar with loads of offers if it's only for people with this special card, also there was no mention anywhere that you needed one of these cards, I looked as close as possible at the poster and couldn't see anywhere that u needed one so I disputed this again, if it did say on the poster it must have been very small writing, the guy said he couldn't see it saying that anywhere so he asked someone who I'm guessing must have been in charge and he said no card no drinks offer so I had to buy 1 can of red bull and share it between 3 double vodkas and that was about £20 if I remember correct, don't have loads of offers on display if most aren't entitled to them and don't know there aren't, if someone asks for one of the special drinks probably a good idea to ask for the card first instead of pouring the drinks first then asking and really it should be easily visible you need one of these cards to get those offers, the posters are that big and bold behind the bar and so many of them it looks like they are for everyone and it's not like they are that special anyway that they are amazing value or anything, would rather a place where upfront and honest about what's on offer, won't be back.

Stopped here for something to eat after visiting The Dungeons. As there was a World Cup game on, this was showing on the screens and the volume was very loud, but it didn't put us off. We ordered our food at the bar (3x chicken clubs and 1x burger) When our food arrived, it could have been warmer, but we started to eat. My friends burger was still pink, so the staff were happy to replace it. My friends and I then noticed our chicken had many spots of blood inside. On further inspection, all 3 chicken dishes were still raw in the middle. Immediately, this put us off!! When a staff member returned with my friends burger, we alerted him of our raw chicken. By now, we decided we didn't want it replaced and were offered a full refund for the 4 meals. We have all eaten in many Sportsters bars with no complaints, but it's safe to say, we will not be returning to this one.

We ordered two combos and a noodle dish, noodles which looked microwaved was average at best and mmmmm the combos where do I start with this? We'll the chicken gougouns mmmm one word rubber, prawn sticks mmmm bits of over cooked batter, burgers tasteless, ribs average. In fairness the waiter was good and after we complained they took the two combos off the bill which was the correct thing to do but to late. Would go back but just for a drink.

We visited Sportsters Bar on a busy Saturday afternoon. We had booked a table and were shown to a booth for four on the ground floor, quite near the bar. If you want to watch the sport there is TV in the booth. If you are ordering food, they take your order at the table which saves you queuing at the bar.We ordered a bottle of red, and were advised that it was out of stock. However, they provided a more expensive bottle at the same price. A nice touch. We ordered the lightly battered chicken strips and piri piri chicken nachos to start. The chicken was lovely and succulent with a nice tasty sauce, and the nachos were nice, better than the average standard pub nachos. We must have enjoyed them, as it was only when our mains arrived that we realised that the nachos didn't have the piri piri chicken in them. To be fair to them, as we had a voucher for our food, they knocked a pound off the price of the wine.We both had the chicken sizzling fajitas as a main course. They were delicious, with a really tasty, tangy sauce, and all the usual accompaniments, sour cream, grated cheese, guacamole, salsa and flour tortillas. It is a busy sports bar, but being in a booth gives you some privacy. It was only when the bar was really busy that we had people standing beside our table.Overall, it was a tasty meal, nice wine, and good service. We would thoroughly recommend the fajitas.
