Spinner and Bergamot Inn in Cheshire West and Chester

As a coeliac it is hard finding places I trust with my food. The Spinner & Bergamot is a delight, they take my auto immune condition seriously and the food is always 5 star. The pub has a real countryside vibe, with a fine dining area at the back. There is great outdoor space for the kids to play, and the staff are always very welcoming.

We have just been celebrating Grandma's 90th birthday at the Spinner. Absolutely outstanding service, food and organisation. Having served 18 people with hot food, clod drinks, a few glasses of fizz and accommodated a cake and decorations for the table all with a smile. Nothing was too much. Definitely recommend it for a party and also just as a family meal. Well done everyone!

We have been several times for the light lunch menu and it has always been excellent. An old pub with a warm friendly atmosphere.

Was served by the lovely Aled and Phoebe for an evening meal. Fantastic service and great food. Would highly recommend.

Great old fashioned pub with a real bar and good food - friendly staff and open 7 days in beautiful Cheshire countryside- perfect.

Greeted with a rather cold attitude, seemed like regulars were preferred. Restaurant was not busy yet waited a long time for orders to be taken . Starter's were delicious so worth the wait. However after waiting yet again the main meals were very underwhelming. Very small lukewarm portions . I ordered the lamb rump Sunday lunch , barely any meat left after i took the fat off the 4 slices i was given. Dessert's were disappointing and the ice cream had already melted by the time it reached the table . On a different note the bathroom's need attention. Such a shame a beautiful pub is letting its self down

Peaceful gardens . Waiter was very pleasant and service efficient . Ordered the chilli chicken skewers with flatbread. At £9.50 , I thought four bite size pieces of chicken was a bit mean . Chicken was tender but couldn’t really taste the chilli and the flatbread was somewhat insipid. I ordered Pimms and lemonade and found it too strong and asked the waitress if she could put a splash more lemonade in it to sweeten it , for which she charged me £1.60.! Is this really justified for 2cm of lemonade?

Not our 1st Sunday lunch at the spinner but the sharing board must be tried! We had lamb and beef and it was amazing the portions are huge!! A must try

We live in the village and pop in The Spinner regularly for a quick drink. We decided to have a meal last night and it was delicious. My husband had a Ribeye and I had a Chicken Katsu curry. Both meals were Freshly cooked, tasty and good value. Staff friendly and looked after us well. Please support our pub!

Very disappointed shabby pub ....plaster off the wall .Seated at table and table next to us later occupied by a couple with a dog which was allowed to jump on the seat several times before owners put it under the table Food menu was limited chose large fish and chips which was very little fish all batter chips were frozen and tasteless. First and definitely last time of visiting

Well what a disappointment. The pub was very shabby with extremely stained seats and chipped paintwork. We ordered our lunch which was very poor. My fish and chips were not enjoyable. The chips were rather soggy aNd tasteless and the fish batter was oily. I reported that the meal was not good and explained why but I didn’t even receive an apology from the kitchen let alone a reduction in the cost of the poor meal.

I cannot rate this pub too highly! We made a very late booking (due to being let down elsewhere) for Sunday lunch for a family group of 10 including 4 small children. We received a really warm welcome and both the service and food were excellent. As my husband and I live abroad, we had a yen for roast beef and yorkshire pudding, which we chose. In addition, it was lovely for the older children to have access to the garden, although the goals got moved around a few times! Thank you!

We stopped in after a bike ride in the local countryside generated some healthy appetites. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was top tier. The food was delicious and we had to try the sumptuous deserts of course! Highly recommend this pub 10/10

We called in with the family after a trip to the Anderton Boat Lift. A lovely atmosphere, good choice of real ales, great food and wonderful, friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I visited the Spinner + Bergamot recently with friends for dinner and drinks. All the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful when I explained my dietary requirements. Our food arrived in good time and every meal was delicious, we opted for puddings too and they were equally as yummy. The outdoor area looked huge and very inviting for in the warmer months of the year. We all enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the pub and i will definitely be returning with my children as it looked to be a very family friendly pub.

We often pass by here on our way to see family up North and it never disappoints. The food has always been lovely, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming and we love how the children have so much outdoor space to run around and stretch their legs after a long drive. The only thing we wish is that we didn't live so far away so we could visit more often!

We visited the spinner and bergamot as it has been recently mentioned in the local newspaper. Cosy, relaxing and lovely quality home cooked food. The staff we all very friendly and accommodating too, especially with our dogs! Will be back 👍🏼

Having been to the pub for a family gathering I can say that I was pleased to see this country pub open and thriving amidst the post covid and current cost of living situation! I decided to have the fish and chips (always my go to if i want to see the quality of produce) and it wasn't disappointing !! The rest of the family as various other mains and starters which were reported back as being excellent! I pleasantly surprised to see the level of staff competence and professionalism. The gentlemen in charge (possibly the owner) showed a level of control and awareness of the customer experience. Being in hospitality my self you notice these things. From a price point of view I didn’t think it was overpriced but more inline with most country pubs of this type ! In short I would highly recommend giving this authentic country pub a try!

I have avoided the Spinner over the years due to their ridiculous drink prices. But when they letter box dropped the entire village I was quite impressed with their locals 10% discount card in an effort to drum up trade. So thought we would give it a go for a special birthday. There was 8 of us. On arrival I was disappointed to find we were sat in the pub and not the restaurant but that seemingly was because we were the only diners. I ordered the pie and asked for fries not mash. The food arrived, no pie. The waitress said it would be there in a minute and as she walked off repeated the order, I said no it wasn’t steak and ale pie it was cheese. Just as everyone else was about to finish their food the pie arrived. The lid was black on one side and clearly straight out of the microwave. Oh with a side of mash. Looked like a Hollands pie I could have banged in the microwave at home. I was as deflated as the pie. 2 kids had pasta linguine. I swear it was spaghetti and Heinz ketchup. They must have told the chef to go home as we were the only ones in. Drinks prices still ridiculous. £200 could have made better at home. Such a bloody shame. Oh and I don’t think the manager gave a sh! T

Came here for Sunday lunch after we were recommend by a family member and We were so disappointed with it. I had the beef and my girlfriend had the chicken. Literally got one piece of fatty beef with 2 roast potatoes, half of carrot, 1 parsnip, cabbage, 1 Yorkshire pudding and one spoon full of carrot and Swede mash! Surely a Sunday dinner has broccoli? cauliflower cheese ? Stuffing ? Sprouts? Mashed potato ? Also the plate was dark so couldn’t see where the gravy was. The chicken wasn’t much, it came on a bone and had strange tasting crispy skin. However the dessert was good, brownie and ice cream and the service was good as well but we for sure will not be returning, poor effort.

We had the light lunch at £15. To call it light was a bit misleading; it was tiny! I have never before seen a pub or restaurant cut a sea bass fillet into three and serve three inches of the narrow end of one fillet as a portion. Come on guys, a whole fish costs only about £3 and is a main meal, one fillet (half a fish) is a light meal, you can't cut a fillet into smaller portions and serve them as a dish except as a starter! I'd give this menu a miss. Have one course from the main menu for a similar price, it will be better value and you won't be hungry afterwards like we were.

What an absolutely fantastic place, my daughter, granddaughter and myself had a birthday lunch for my mum.It was an absolute delight to visit. Excellent service especially off Nathan and Becky. Always ready to help but not over fussing..The food arrived and I can honestly say it’s the best lunch I have had in a very very long time.. we ordered a selection of starters and couple of mains to come at the same time so we could all have a taste of everything. Plus we had baby with us so needed to get timings right.. the sea bass lighter bite was delish and very decent light bite portion as well (I am returning Monday so I can have this again) we didn’t eat one of the starter as we wanted room for a desert but not a problem as this was boxed up for me to enjoy later.. I had the panocotta and shortbread and can’t wait to have this again perfect set and silky smooth with buttery shortbread..Price was perfect for the food, drink and service.Well done to all the staff for making our first lunch out so enjoyable.

Took my elderly mum to sample the new Spinner menu... lovely lunch. I had the sea bass with heritage potatoes & tomatoes... absolutely delicious! Will definitely order again. Mum loved her quiche from the specials menu. Great service, very well looked after.Not my first visit since new management and the Sunday lunches are also worth mention - outstanding! We were welcomed straight away by a young lady called Becky who provided excellent service and made us feel very welcome and looked after us, not just the amazing staff the food was outstanding also it tasted great! I have eaten at the pub since the new management have taken over and had three excellent meals. Staff all very friendly and polite. Separate gluten free menu is also a bonus. Would like to see a lunch time menu but would definitely return again.

We are regulars in the pub especially with living just around the corner. The service is the poorest that I have known from any pub.Since it’s reopened under new management, we have been in 4 times and the service just gets worse & worse. Last night we sat for 15 minutes and not one person came to ask us for our drink orders. The time before that 2 weeks previously, we waited for 25 minutes and not one person came to take an order from us and we ended going to the bar to place a drink order which your are currently not supposed to do due to covid restrictions. The time other 2 times just before that were just as bad.How hard is it to train the service staff to go around the tables and ask people if they would like any drinks.

Our visit was in the period where food and drinks could only be served outdoors. The pub has done a good job of providing tables on the green at the rear of the pub abd providing these with awnings. sadly we were there during something of a downpour (the awning kept the rain off) but the wind was also very chilly that day. That, of course, is no fault of the pub.the welcome, service and the food were all good and we will certainly make a return visit (hopefully in better weather).We especially enjoyed the sharing plate of olives, garlic dip and breads. The three cheese pie was an interesting and very tasty main course, as was the chicken stuffed with hm and cheese.All good!!!

Great food, great selection on the bar. We went for a roast dinner, me and my partner and her dad, none of us had any complaints. Considering we went for a roast late on we were shocked especially about the quality of the meat. The management is much friendlier than its prior ownership.

We had eaten here a couple of years ago.. nice cheap and tasty lunch.This visit was very different. The new team have an interesting menu, and a very strong price.. no cheap alternative snacks.The quality does not live up to the price: for example, the chef seems to pre-par-cook vegetables, then pan fry them in butter for too long - and lose all the specific flavours. Decent portions.But the serving staff (so many of them!) are very personable, and we were well-treated!Let's hope they learn - need negative feed back to improve - and prosper. Good luck, Simon!

Sat outside near the bowling green and it was so peaceful. Food was lovely, I had the burger and the onion rings were delicious. Hubby had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it.Hubby signed in with our contact details and then was given a menu. Waitress kept there distance when talking our orders.

Had soup and the pate, both of which were tasty and fresh. We both opted for the steak and ale pie but I wish I’d had the roast which looked great. Pie was tasty but overcooked. Lovely vegetables served with it and chips. Couldn’t finish it though. The starters were generous and we were full. Server was lovely and friendly but we did have to prompt to order food but was great once we’d done that. I was happy sitting outside. I think I’d have been a little less comfortable inside regarding space between tables but it’s difficult in older pubs and under normal circumstances I’d love the cosines. Also have to say the bathrooms were lovely!

Having been let down by the Georrge and Dragon where we had booked for my mum's 75, we made a last minute booking here and must say we were very happy we did. We were seated by the open door which was nice on such a hot day, the food was good - not overcrowded but nice atmosphere.

We decided to eat here tonight to support a local business rather than a chain. The food was great it always is but the social distancing of the staff was really bad. We were seated, ordered and had our drinks before the older gentleman took our temperature with a thermometer gun that you use from a distance, but decided it was best to touch it on our wrists then moved on to the next table and took other families temperatures without wiping it down. We were in the small room of four tables at the front and the next group that came in were seated right next to us which was strange as the pub was empty. I don't expect the staff to wear masks as they need to be comfortable working but the older lady who served us kept bending over the table getting right in our faces as if business was back to normal. The young girl was really good and kept her distance and let us know what she was doing so we had the chance to move out of the way. This is the first negative review I've ever written and I wouldn't normally but I mentioned on the way out after paying the bill that it was an uncomfortable experience but the food was great but the guy behind the bar just said okay and laughed!

I love this place, the food has always been great and the childrens menue is great to even the fish fingers are made fresh by the chef. So cosy in the winter with the fires roaring and has a lovely outside area to sit in the summer. Has a nice selection drinks and the staff are all so lovely and welcoming. I Can not recommend this place enough, there Sunday roast is gorgeous.

I have visited this pub many times. The atmosphere and beer(Robinson’s) is always good. The food can be excellent but is a bit of hit and miss has I have also had some poor meals there. I would still recommend giving it a go for yourselves....

Attended a wake here. Large function room used with very good hot and cold buffet. Staff were very accommodating and will call in again to try the bar meals. Lovely cosy and rustic feel to the place.

This place is nice enough and the beer garden is nice, but service is very slow and beer expensive for a little country pub. You can literally be left hanging around the bar wondering whether to stay......menu limited

I was taken to the Spinner by my sister and brother in law in October . The experience was so positive I decided to go again with some friends for Sunday lunch . I was not disappointed. It was just as good as the first visit . All three of us were delighted. The food was excellent , fresh , hot and cooked beautifully. The service was excellent . Professional, friendly and not too intrusive . We all agreed that we would be making future bookings .

Attentive staff for our group of 4 adults and 3 11 year olds.All the roast meals either Beef or Lamb went down well.The kids had a mix of adult and kids meals all of which were appreciated.Starters were nice as were the sweets or cheese platter.Nice clean friendly place with reasonable parking places. Sunday afternoon dinner we had the roast gammon with leek sauce it was fantastic. We were informed on arrival that there was a wait but this was not a problem. Guinness and mulled wine were really good too. Will definitely be back and I highly recommend

Arrived with my partner and two friends after a walk. The barman advises is that all the food was homemade. No freezer or microwaving. My partner and I decided to have a late lunch. I ordered a starter and Sunday roast. My partner a starter and salmon. The starters were fine. My partners salmon was fine. My roast beef dinner was lukewarm. I told the waitress and she took it away. She brought it back piping hot. It had been microwaved. I started to eat it and found the Yorkshire pudding to be a shrivelled soggy mass. I told the waitress and she got a fresh Yorkshire pudding for me. Although the meal was now hot the potatoes were hard. The beef was soft and limp. Altogether quite unpalatable. I asked for the bill and went to the counter to pay. I told them of the problems with my roast dinner. I got a cursory ‘sorry’. I don’t feel any of the staff were in the least interested. A very quaint country pub with good reviews. Will I eat there again ? A definate ‘NO’.

Had the white onion, potato and chive soup with tiger bread for starter. Delicious hot soup, soft bread with good crust alongside a ramekin of soft spreadable butter. Followed it with the coq au vin chicken supreme which was absolutely superb. Good pint of dizzy blonde to wash it down.

A warm welcome as soon as we arrived and quickly shown to our booked table (Dogs welcome) The menu offering great choice + Sunday lunch menu and Specials. Such a wide choice. The staff really friendly and our order taken once we were settled. The Sunday roast looked and tasted excellent, the portions good and piping hot.
