We attended as a group of 10 for a tribute night. We had one lady who was celiac and this was noted when we pre ordered the food choices. Our food was great, she was given Pasta in her stuffed pepper. We complained and the food went away, no alternatives or a free drink was offered or a full refund. Very disappointing as she was ill the next day. very disappointing!! We did enjoy the evening and the entertainment. (Take dietary requests seriously)

We were seated quickly on a nice table overlooking the golf course and given menu which included drinks but no wine menu. The waiter was not sociable. No one round to ask so I went to the bar and asked. A miserable girl just plonked the bottle of wine on our table with no wine cooler and looking around no one else had one. Starter and main course came within a reasonable time and food was enjoyable. The waiter when clearing main course plates did not ask about deserts so after a few minutes I again went to the bar to ask for desert menu from miserable girl leaning on the bar. We waited fifteen minutes or longer for our desert. We have been here many times and always had good service. The foreign waiter was very good and did ask us if the food was ok and did apologise for the delay. He is a credit to the establishment but the other waiter and waitress were very poor by their poor attitude towards us. People on the next table to us complained about the delay. Had it not been for the poor service I would have given a 5 rating.

Do not use this restaurant if there is a large party. I booked for 25 people spread over 6 tables to eat lunch and although they had my reservation for over 3 weeks they could not cope. Each table ordered separately and we asked for the food to be delivered per table and not all 25 together. Unfortunately one table had to wait over 90 minutes to get their food and then one of the orders was incorrect and had to wait a further 20 minutes for her food. Some People arrived 15 minutes early but the rude waitress refused to give us a menu until it was 12 o’clock, the time our tables were booked for. One table watched the chef, who didnt seem happy to be working, man handle the customers food. The next day I wrote and complained about the service but have still not had a reply hence this review. All 25 of us will NOT be using this restaurant again, I suggest you think twice before booking.

There was plenty of room in the restaurant when we arrived but we were seated near a table of approx 30 golfers who were shouting above each other to be heard. Unfortunately because of this the 6 of us on our table couldn’t hear each other. Also the service was very slow. Our meals sat on the counter without the heat lamps on for quite a while therefore the food wasn’t particularly hot when it got to us.

Had a round of golf booked today with 4 friends and we decided to go for breakfast at Spikes bar first. Very poor breakfast in many ways, meant to a buffet style but had a choice of sausage eggs, hash browns & beans. Hash browns were all broken, beans were congealed. When we went up to get our breakfast and there was nothing there so we stood for over 5 minutes waiting, a man kept looking at us but never acknowledged us at all , when he eventually bought some food to put in the trays he kind of threw the food onto them like he did not care. 2 breakfasts cost £25. Very, very poor. Shame as it is a lovely gold course, just go somewhere else for breakfast.

Visited here with friends on Monday, 8th November for lunch. 2 of us ordered the chicken & mushroom pie and asked for chips instead of mash which was OK. However disappointed that the pie arrived in a 'bowl' not a plate and there was no gray therefore very dry. My husband and friend had the lamb which they both said was very nice, however I had to go to the bar to request mint sauce for them. We were given sweet menu but that was it, no-one came to take the order so I went to the bar. Ordered 2 x lemon roulade, which was very nice and 2 x pear and peach crumbles 'with CUSTARD' on arrival both had ice cream. Our last visit was not as good as before lockdown i.e. scampi and chips you used to have a choice of peas or salad, now there is no choice, just peas. We have used Spikes bar for quite some time now but we think standards have dropped.

I recently visited Spike’s Bistro with my family and we all enjoyed an outstanding meal. I had the simply delicious crab & prawn linguine, topped with mussels and deep fried parsley. Two of my relatives had perfectly cooked steak, with all the trimmings and my mother thoroughly enjoyed her Sea Bass; she is diabetic and the meal was served swiftly as a result. Another member of the family enjoyed the homemade Thai Green curry. The Chef even makes his own paste, and he will adjust the heat to suit your palate. I can also heartily recommend the homemade dessert Menu - particularly the Honey & Ginger steamed pudding which hit the spot and was sublime! Our plates returned clean! Friendly, efficient Staff and beautiful surroundings added to our enjoyment of a First Class Menu. A huge thank you - we’ll be returning soon. JB

Very average sandwich. No salad relish as stated on the menu. More importantly than anything is the worrying fact of the waiter with his nose uncovered by his mask. Where’s COVID compliance in that? The average age of guests there is quite high so it is potentially a high health risk.

What a difference to so many places that are just not up to scratch. We ate here during the 'eat out to help out' offer during August and could not fault the staff, food nor premises. All staff had face coverings, the service was exceptional, very attentive considering the restaurant was of a high capacity (we sat in the Orangary). Our food was piping hot, great portion sizes and overall the atmosphere was outstanding. We will be going back here as more then happy to pay the full price knowing that this establishment 'want' your business even in these tough times.

My wife and I were staying in the Hotel which is lovely, and invited the family to come for a meal at Spike's, so we were a table of 6 booked for 715. We sat down at 715, ordered at 730, our starters came an hour later and our Mains at 850. By this time we had lost our appetite to be fair. Admittedly the Mon-Wed offer is on but considering we booked a table we appeared to be bypassed by walk Ins from the Golf Course. The Chefs and one Waiter, worked hard but we couldn't understand why other food kept coming out and from sitting down it took 1 hour 35 mins for our Main Course. The food was good but tbh we had lost our appetite and were so frustrated with the wait. So if you are eating here during the offer be prepared to wait.

Waiter service yet drinks from the bar, most confusing. Fish was of the poorest quality I have ever witnessed, dull, grey and impossible to enjoy, chips not to their usual quality. Really sad to have to report this as we have enjoyed previous meals however, change to being seated did not take into consideration.....very little staff how are they going to cope. I'm what you might class as a regular. I spend a day a week working in the nearby area, so generally spend at least one night a week at the Dudsbury and dine in Spikes. I have to say, I look forward to it every week. The staff are excellent, the food is superb and the surroundings are lovely. The menu changes frequently and there are always a good selection of daily specials on the blackboard. The waiting and bar staff are highly professional, courteous, friendly and really take care of the customers. The chef's are clearly extremely talented and produce consistently good food. A visit to Spikes is a pleasure, good value and once you've tried it you'll want to return.

Booked for 6 people as a treat for my husbands 40th birthday at 13.15 on Sunday 10th Nov. Waited 1.5 hours after ordering for food to arrive, this was not fun when dining with children. One waitress on duty for the whole restaurant (Sheila) who was absolutely lovely btw shouldn't have been loaded with that much work load alone and looked totally overworked. We were not told of any specials when we were shown to our table and having never been here before was unaware of this. Many dishes on the menu were sold out leaving a few of us with the only option of having burgers on a Sunday! My father went and got my mother a glass of wine and was charged over £9!! I was not at all impressed and will not be returning or recommending. Very disappointed!

My wife and I wanted to go into the Bentley's restaurant for lunch, but it had a special event and was closed, so we went into the Bistro. We found a pleasant table overlooking the golf course and waited to be served. Although a couple of waitresses were attending other guests and cleaning tables, we were unable to catch their eye to ask for a menu. When we eventually succeeded in calling over a waitress, she told us that we had to order at the bar. Fair enough - but we didn't know and it seemed so difficult in finding someone to give us this information. The menu was very limited and nothing like Bentley's menu, so we decided to leave and find somewhere else for lunch.

Went as a group of 5 with my grandparents. Firstly I have nothing but positives for the food which was clearly freshly cooked and was tasty if the menu was very “old” fashioned food wise. The place was rammed and although the waiting/bar staff were trying there best, as there were only 4 of them they just couldn’t keep up. This wasn’t helped by many of the cliental being unable to remember PIN numbers or table numbers at the bar! I want to stress the staff that were working we’re amazing and couldn’t do any more, there just needed to be more of them! This led to a good 10minute que to order drinks and then food once we had decided what we wanted. Simply put more staff are needed in order to ensure a pleasant meal for all concerned.

Fish and chips was hot with crispy batter and really nice flaky flesh. My friend had a smoked salmon and prawn salad and it was great. Certainly was enough for him. The biggest letdown was the waiter, Mark, he was the most miserable waiter I have ever come across, nothing was too much trouble for him, actually everything was too much trouble for him. The best things about this restaurant and bar are the copious parking and the pleasant view over the golf course. Ringwood beers are served at the bar which is where food is ordered. It is then delivered to a numbered table. The food is very average but quite filling. Pie of the day is just a filling surrounded by two separate pieces of pastry. The fish cakes were rather runny. Disabled access by wheelchair needs forethought as the main entrance is by steps. Bentley’s upstairs is rather better but was closed for a wake when we called on spec.

This was a rare occasion for our family getting together as we live far apart. The restaurant is in a lovely setting looking out over the golf course and the decor is OK. The waitress was very welcoming and smiley as was the barman. We could see our food being cooked as the kitchen is open. My pasta sauce was poured out of a large Dolmio branded jar. They added mushrooms which I picked out as they tasted of nasty oil. My mum could not chew the tough pork in her stroganoff so they replaced it with a chicken pie. My sister had the pie as well, they both said it was very bland. My nephew's lamb steak was tough, although he had asked for it medium / well done. The chips all tasted of nasty oil. My dad said his curry was average but plonked in the middle of a ring of watery rice. My 9 year old nephew ate his burger and said it was OK but even he did not like the chips. We will not be going back.

We arrived here around 5:30 after a busy day at Moors Valley. We were just in time to order hot food before they closed. The lady serving was nice. Value for money was fantastic, with a kids meal and drink free per adults meal. The meals came quickly and were hot and tasty, especially for the price. The tables were clean and place was bright. There are also lots of books, colouring and activities to keep kids entertained - although we didn't even get through one Mr Men book before the food arrived it was so speedy! We'd definitely visit again. It wasn't glamorous and of course can't compare to fancier places but it filled hungry tummies and saved pennies too. Can't complain!
