I come here a lot and the coffee is outstanding. I have recently been having the cheese and tomato baguette and the rolls are borderline dangerous! I assume it is sourdough but it is SO tough and hard to chew, anyone without their own full set of teeth should steer clear! Some days they are sharper than others but they are always tough and a real workout to eat. They are delicious but I question if there is not a more gum and mouth friendly alternative? Maybe the rolls used for the chicken baguette? I also think some variety in the sandwich options wouldn’t go amiss - the same tuna melt/Serrano ham/chicken/cheese options have been on offer for years. Also coat hooks on the toilet doors are needed to not have to put your coat and handbag on the wet floor.

Okay. We dropped in this morning at 8:15. We ordered two coffees and two sandwiches one halloumi with pesto and one sausage sandwich. Having placed our order at the counter we sat down at a table. It took 10 minutes for our coffee to come and at least 25 minutes before the sandwiches arrived by which time we had finished our coffee. Sausage sandwich was very average, halloumi with pesto, no pesto in stock! Coffee was good, service very slow, quality very average and price……expensive. Based on this experience we won’t hurry back.

Recommended. I would argue that this is some of the best coffee in Bristol. The snag is the cafe is not that big (there are also now tables outside for use in good weather) and there is a limited number of comfy leather bench seats, so don't settle in for an extended stay. The food looks good/healthy though I never eat it.

This was ideal; if we have another opportunity we'll come again. Husband who can usually spot the cloud around any silver lining was happy as a clam with a huge cheese, tomato and pickle and other bits baguette type sandwich, and a variety of salads. I had a tortilla type slice with salads - really tasty, colourful and looked like it was healthier than it probably was (such is life). And it would have been rude not to have cake, so we did. Chocolate and berry power ball for him (just because I thought it would be funny to give him what looked like a ball on a plate) and courgette and lime cake for me - which was as a courgette cake should be, and I don't usually bother with cake. A bit of passionfruit in the cream cheese icing would have been nice - but I'm being picky. If we can fit in another visit before the end of November (when the Marvin tax comes in), we definitely will. Well done, chaps. Great job, and thankyou. xx

After walking round clifton trying to find a place that did brunch suitable for a gluten and dairy free diet - we gave Spicer & Cole a go. It was amazing - one of the best brunches I've ever had. They do gluten free bread (which for some reason they don't advertise) and they even swapped out the sausage to an extra slice of bacon. Overall I was very impressed by the whole experience and the attitude of the staff (the guy behind the counter was so enthusiastic and happy to help which always makes such a difference). As a coeliac, finding places like this which treat allergies responsibly but don't make you feel as if it is a huge problem are hard to find. I will be back!

I am not one to write reviews but after the level of service my family recieved here, I felt I had to. Upon arriving my family (myself, wife and baby) were told that as we were a two we could not sit at a table of 4. Fair enough we accepted this only to find that the next 3 couples were given tables of 4. We mentioned that given we had a pram etc would it be possible to have the next table of 4 that becomes avaliable. The rude and sarcastic waitress then asked a couple to move so we could sit at their table. The couple (who were clearly not happy) gave us some abuse as they passed. From this point on, the whole team of staff had it in for us. We were constantly glared at and could see the staff talking about us. When ordering food, I asked for some tap water to which the staff said "what for?". My wife with a sore throat wanted some hot water which was given to us in a small teapot and the member of staff just shrugged. The food was okay, standard, nothing exciting. Upon finishing our last mouthful and going to pick our baby out the high chair we were pounced on. A member of staff started spraying the table, touching all our babies stuff (not ideal in covid times) and pushing for us to leave. How we stayed so calm is what surprises me the most, we were in total shock. My advice to anyone would be to not waste your time, do not go to this place, the staff are very rude and up themselves, the level of service horrendous and the food just about passable. I have tried to contact spicer and cole to express my concern and unhappiness but no luck. All I wanted to do was have a nice brunch with my family on our wedding anniversary and am still in shock about this experience.

A decent sized café/coffee shop in the heart of Clifton Village, it seemed a popular spot on our recent Saturday morning visit with most tables occupied by 9:30 or so, and punters spilling out on to the couple of small tables on the pavement outside. I opted for the smashed avocado on toast with harissa and coriander and also went for a couple of poached eggs as an optional extra (oddly the waitress had to clarify that I meant two when asking for a couple). On the whole this was pretty good with a decent amount of avocado and some crunchy sourdough bread. That said, the harissa was just a decorative ring around the edge of the plate rather than being an integral part of the dish, and I think most of the coriander was too, with just one solitary sprig being found within the food. Without the eggs it would have been rather one dimensional I would have thought, and a £2 supplement for these seemed a little expensive.

The counter display always looks so appetising but on the two occasions I have visited the cakes look nicer than they taste. The coffee is lovely and the tables were clean and tidy. I went in for breakfast. Coffee (americano) was OK. The breakfast special, poached eggs, bacon on a muffin was spoilt by the tasteless stodgy sauce. Service was fairly slow and the food was lukewarm. Whilst going back to the bar to collect my coffee, a server removed my numbered paddle and receipt. When I challenged this, he refused to give them back at first, disappearing into the servery, presumably to ask someone who did his thinking for him. He reappeared a few moments later and dumped the paddle and receipt on the table without apology. The whole cost £9.55 which seemd expensive for such a poor experience

Trendy venue, exciting menu so much to choose from (vegan, vegetarian). Products are fresh, seasonal & local. They even have a board explaining where they get their produce from. The food is absolutely on point. I had leak and potato soup, to die for! Lovely coffee and cakes. Highly recommend this place!

I come into this Spicer and Cole around 4 times a week on my lunch break. Sometimes I come just for a coffee but most the time I end up having the delicious food on offer! The coffee to begin with is strong and taste amazing, one of my favourite coffees in Clifton Village. The food is also second to none. I tend to have a frittata or something similar with a salad and it is always so full of flavour and always different each day which is great.I am completely obsessed with the peanut butter cookies too they are so delicious! The service is always great too. Even at busy times the staff are welcoming, and try to serve you as soon as possible - which may at times be a little longer than other places but well worth the wait. The manager is extremely friendly and a great person to have representing the company. My order is well known now and I would always chose Spicer and Cole as my first option over anywhere else in the area.

Absolutely delicious! I had an amazing bacon and harissa sandwich which had loads of bacon. My boyfriend had a smoked salmon bagel, which he loved. Topped off with amazing coffee. A little on the pricey side but totally worth it. It is beautifully decorated and the staff are pleasant.

I've visited a few times in the last few months. I love their tomato and paprika soup but I hate the 20 minute wait from order to receiving the take-away! The service is always really slow, no matter what you order and I can't understand why they don't sort it out they seem to have enough staff. My avocado on toast for breakfast was served on cold toast and the extra roast tomato was the most expensive tomato ever at £2 for one!

We fell over this place by accident when in Bristol looking for a good cup of coffee and breakfast. The choice of food for vegetarians and those with intolerance's was really impressive. While the food was simple in thought, it was beautifully presented, very cleverly constructed to ensure a good depth of flavour and mix of ingredients. The coffee was fantastic and service excellent. It was so good we went back the next day with friends.

This is a very busy cafe, recommended to us by a local for it's excellent quality snacks and salads. We had a range of panini's and tarts with salad & also a good range of hot and cold drinks all of which were good and reasonably priced. It was busy so we had to sit by the entrance door which opens straight onto the pavement & meant there was a chilly draft as it was a cold day. It was also quite noisy, as customers came and went, many to buy take outs. If you have the option I would try and sit nearer the back of the Cafe, however the food was excellent & it's reputation with local's well deserved.

We went here to celebrate my daughter’s 14th birthday. This is a place we have always over the past 20 years visited frequently. I don’t usually like to write bad reviews but I wouldn’t want anyone to fall short like we did. The food is average. All the poppadoms were stale. They did replace some with fresh ones once we asked. My prawns on my starter were very tough, chewy and overcooked. A few of us weren’t drinking alcohol but soft drinks were very limited! The whole experience felt like they were trying to get as much money out of us as they could. We were on the Tuesday banquet night which actually turns out more expensive!! When the bill came. It was a mess (I wonder why!) we couldn’t make head or tail of it. When we worked out our drinks bill they had stuck an extra £28.50 on!! Plus any extras they decided to put on for poppadoms and pickle trays. If you do decide to go here please keep your full awareness on what you consume. We will not be returning or recommending
