Had a great visit again to the giggling squid in Clifton. The food was great, I had a the Tapas lunch menu, which was full of moth watering flavours, green curry, jasmine rice to name a few with an extra dish of honey duck, which was awesome. My wife had the giggling squid set with a dish of salt and pepper squid on the side, which she raves about. Service was fast and efficient, so was the delivery of the food to the table. The restaurant was quieter than I have seen it before, especially for a Saturday afternoon, so it slightly lacked the noise and hussle.

What a shame! We waited half an hour for our drinks to arrive, and had two Lychee mojitos which tasted of nothing but unpleasant alcohol. The quality of the food has been decreasing over the past few times we have visited. We ordered two massaman curries which were INCREDIBLY spicy. These are not marked as spicy and every time we have had it previously at The Giggling Squid it has never been spicy. The potatoes were also undercooked. We asked for it to be returned as it was completely inedible for my partner. By this point we were frustrated and asked to leave without having another main dish delivered to us. We paid £55 for two starters, two soft drinks and two cocktails we didn't drink and they didn't remove the rice that we ordered with our main meals which we didn't eat. They also added a service charge. I didn't want to have to fight asking for it to be removed after we were both left hungry. I won't be returning.

The restaurant has a great ambiance, and the overall taste of the food is quite good. The staff is attentive and courteous.

I would have happily given 5 stars as the service and the food here is spot on. The decor in the restaurant is also very nice however, we felt really rushed all evening, it was quite stressful at times! We were looking at the menus and they came round at least four times to ask us if we were ready, we had only just sat down. When we had finished our starter the plates were removed by one server only to have our main course put in front of us immediately by another server! We had a bottle of wine and we like to savour our food and take our time however it felt like the staff had a competition to see how quickly they could serve people and get them to leave. The restaurant wasn't even full!! There's really no need for that and it was a shame as everything else was great! They DO say on their booking that they respectfully ask for the table back after 1.5 hours however, I can understand that if there are guests waiting there for your table but come on - let the customers enjoy their evening without rushing them through the door please? I don't spend £91 on two starters, two main courses and a bottle of wine only to be rushed all evening.

Came here on a weeknight and surprised with how busy it was, although it was quite the intimate restaurant which may add to how busy it is. Staff were very warm and welcoming and the food was so flavourful! For starters, we ordered the pork skewers, squid and fried mushrooms which were UNREAL - I wouldnt have thought this was a vegan dish! Then for mains, my husband had a prawn pad thai and I had a beef dish from the special menu with the tom yum fried rice. The beef dish was okay....very soft and tender which I loved although I had a lot of fat on mine. Then we had the pandan tres leches to share which was so moist and was so addictive! Only downside was that they didnt have the pineapple banana coconut smoothie at the time.

Ate here after a break of 4 years. I have to say the food does not pass as authentic Thai.Papaya salad contained very thin slices of Papaya, not chunks as expected. Stir fry contained far too much gelatinous salty sauce, large slices of vegetables and for some reason braised beef, out of place in a stir fry and not infused with the traditional stir fry taste. Green Curry was quite bland and not very spicy, again with braised beef. Fried rice was not particualrly tasty. Food was also lukewarm. I believe more attention should be paid to how the food is prepared and cooked. Lack of Tom Yum in a Thai restaurant with Thai chefs is also rather surprising.

The menu had a decent array. We opted for a lunch platter. While some of it was tasty the general opinion was that our food must've been sitting in the kitchen for 5/10 minutes before being served to us because the temperature was lukewarm, all of it including the dumplings, the soup, the rice, the stir fries. And the restaurant was not busy when we visited early evening. It really just gave us a bad impression of all the food. I think, despite the lack of heat, the pad gra pao was the tastiest. I wouldn't be in a rush to revisit. The staff were all pleasant though and it was decorated well.

So we haven't eaten for a couple of years and have always been previously in the evening as a couple and enjoyed a long dinner with lots of cocktails. This time we had our 2 small children in tow! Anxious to not disturb other diners we had a nice table tucked away in a corner. The service as always is impeccable, they pay lots of attention to the children and rhe kids menu is fabulous. Food was excellent as always, and mummy's cocktial was wonderful Cannot wait to return minus children!

Lovely dinner once again at the giggling squid. Have been several times. Always a must attend when we have friends from out of town to stay. Can always garuntee a lovely meal here. The sticky chicken is an absolute favourite of ours. Attentive staff and beautiful restaurant.

Very nice appetisers, mains not as great. Staff couldn’t find my reservation made via Google and then they gave us wrong dishes so it’s a messy operation. They’re friendly though.

I highly recommend this place. The food was amazing and the staff kind, quick and very friendly. Food quality /price is good. Proportions are right. Nice environment, relatively and chill, clean and without smelling clothes. This is the best Thai I have been in Bristol. I will repeat again 100% 😋 I highly recommend the sticky fried chicken and pad thai (king prawns and tofu) they are delicious!!!!!

Had lunch here whilst visiting the area. Food was delicious. We had noodles and tapas style dishes. Staff were friendly and professional. Definitely worth going.

Very expensive for very bland food. The portions were really small and very expensive. Not much flavour in any of the dishes. Would not recommend.

We took the chance on a table here on a busy Sunday evening. The atmosphere was busy and jolly and the food was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and good awareness of dietary requirements. I have to eat gluten free and was offered several options, I went for the vegetable pad thai which arrived on a plate with a " no gluten" sticker, all the staff double checked that it was ok and I felt very safe eating there.

First time in GS. Great experience for both food and service. Shared starters with Chicken Cashew Stir fry and Slow cooked beef chilli and basil stir fry as mains. Highly recommended

The Thai food was very inauthentic, not spicy or sour at all. There was no Tom Yum Goong, Thailand's most famous soup. The portions were very small and quite expensive. Although the presentation looked good, it was only superficial. Most importantly, we were inexplicably charged a £3.20 tip (the first time we've been charged a tip in the UK).

Came out for an evening meal with some colleagues. Food was tasty and well presented. I went for a masaman with sticky rice! The Thai twist in the cocktails was definitely a hit! Gave a four on service only because we had to call a few times to get attention but the restaurant was v busy for a Friday night!

Pad thai was really bad, beef curry was nice. Ordered on Deliveroo, at £90 for 4 people it was way overpriced and I won’t be going back or ordering.

Fantastic food and very fast service. Ordered staters and main as well as cockatils. The only complaint i have is that the restaurant is small and tables are crammed together, leaving virtually no space to move around. However the food more than made up for this.

Very surprised by how mid the food was given the popularity of the chain and the other positive reviews. Maybe i got unlucky, but both the pad thai and green curry were very bland and did not taste authentic at all. Both dishes were left unfinished. Also the prices feel quite high, especially for the quality. the green curry in particular, despite being completely veggie, (and a small portion- came in a tiny bowl as pictured) and cost nearly £15 ..

Maybe me and Our Eddie don’t get out much, but we ended up giggling like kids at the name of this restaurant (honestly never heard of it before now). What with him being a bit on the conservative (small c) side when spice is involved, I was pleased to see how adventurous he was thinking by initially going for a red curry. I suggested he try one of the fusion choices on the menu, with a taste of Thai without going full Phuket - if you get my drift. Well, we were placed next a large table of mostly middle aged blokes talking IT and behind me, another table of blokes talking over each other, getting louder and louder, so much so I turned round and gave one my Paddington stare. That told him. Usually, I’ve a big appetite and tiny stomach but threw caution to the wind and had pork dumplings and he had salmon bites on leaves, which I told him you could eat in one go, leaf and all. We split these, and omg the salmon bites were gorgeous. For the mains, I had hake and he had two types of steak, both dripping in Thai flavours. Our wine was ok, not much to choose from, it was Ozzie Pinot Grigio. We even had a dessert and a coffee. All in all, around £120. Not bad. The toilets were a bit poky, so small and uncomfortable to have some right outside the door waiting as I’m doing me business. Most covers were around 7-8pm so when we finished so did everyone else, trying to get someone’s attention to get the bill was impossible. It was like they switched off. Had to go find them and interrupt their chat. All in all, it was ok. Other thing to note - deliveroo was in an out by the dozen. Probs best eaten at home.

I do not recommend this place - go with a local Thai restaurant rather than a chain. They sent us the wrong order via Deliveroo. When it eventually got to us it was cold. The containers were offered no insulation, so I'd be amazed if anyone ever got they order hot from this place. The portions were also too small and not tasty enough to justify the prince. If you can't facilitate delivery, don't offer it. Otherwise it just looks like a money grab.

A Birthday Celebration to Remember at Giggling Squid. We recently had a fantastic gathering here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it couldn't have been a better experience! From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu and even made some excellent recommendations based on our preferences. The real star of the show, though, was the food. Everything we ordered was bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. We shared a variety of dishes, from fragrant curries to perfectly cooked Pad Thai, and everyone at the table was raving about each bite. The spice level options were perfect, allowing everyone to customise their meal to their liking. Overall, our experience here was absolutely fantastic. The combination of delicious food, impeccable service, and a warm atmosphere made it the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We will definitely be recommending it to everyone we know and can't wait to return ourselves! Highly recommended! 5 out of 5 stars

Great spot for some Thai food to share.

I had red curry, it really wasn't great.

Hugely popular Thai restaurant with an impressive reputation for fine Thai food. The service is charming and impeccable, and judging from the din made by happy customers, the atmosphere is convivial. I have to declare that I'm not a huge fan of oriental cuisine, so I have compromised with 4 stars for food I didn't particularly enjoy, but which everyone else did.

ordered giggling squid on deliveroo and it was delicious! slightly pricey (20£+ for a main and side) but deliveroo had some discounts. the salt and pepper squid was a highlight for me, chilli sauce wasn’t exactly thai sweet chilli but it worked with the crispy and flavourful squid. pad thai was ok, i would get something else the next time but it had an intense smoky flavour

Great food and excellent service made our trip here very enjoyable indeed. I look forward to next my visit which will hopefully be sometime soon.

3rd visit and it was a bit chaotic. Arrived to a long list of food not available, so not a great start as it was a long list. Ordered something not on the list and was told it’s not available even though not on the list. Starter was nice had the sharing street food. Then it went down hill. Our food was brought out bowl by bowl. Other tables were served all at once. We all ate at different times and sat looking at bowls of rice getting cold. Then my chicken came out and it was cold. The salmon was about 10 mins after everything else. Servers just gave us giggling apologies and didn’t take it at all serious. Probably won’t come back good forth time. Such a shame.

Disappointing. Usually very reliable but tonight presented with a long list of dishes that were unavailable, only to have the waitress come back twice as more of our order became unavailable. Had to chase my coffee that wasn't "just coming" while the rest of the party had been served and were finishing. And charged for an item that had never arrived. The staff were all very nice but that only goes so far.

We were celebrating a 21st Birthday and the team brought out a special birthday cake as a surprise to us all. Great food and service thank you

We had a lovely weekend lunch at the Giggling Squid. They have a special lunch menu with tapas, tapas sets and favourites, as well as the main menu. We plumped for the lunch menu, I had a range of tapas and my partner went for a lunch set. The food was really tasty, fresh and presented well. There wasn't a dish we didn't enjoy. Big shout out to the slow cooked crispy beef tapas..... sooooo good. I also got the chance to try a Thai white wine, which was lovely. The service was great and we enjoyed our meal. We'd ventured out of our usual radius for restuarants, we feel it was worth the trip to Clifton.

Nice food but wife's was extremely garlicky, mine was lovely as was the sharing fisherman's starter. Why 4*? Price of drinks, £3.35 for a coke and almost £9 for a wine, 300% mark up on coke and almost 400% on a bottle of wine, that's why.

The food was great - really flavoursome and appealingly presented. Among the dishes we enjoyed were sticky pork cheeks, lamb shank curry, the melting beef and masaman curry . The sauces were delicious. Appropriate portion size. Great decor and ambience too.

Went here for my mum's birthday, the service was excellent, the staff were very kind, friendly and attentive. They set the bar high in terms of excellent customer service. The dinner was delicious, especially the Fisherman's Platter, which we had as a sharing starter. Largely portioned & worth the money. Presented a surprise Happy Birthday dessert for my mum. She was very happy as was the rest of the table. Highly recommend.

Excellent. We had a 1.15 pm table. We had the Giggling Squid set which is always super. Unfortunately they had run out of the duck but they said we could choose anything else off the menu. I chose the crispy beef as a substitute. It was excellent. Despite being extremely busy service was very good indeed. Highly recommend.

The worst Giggling Squid experience I've ever had.

I have ordered thai red curry and my partner had a lunch tapas starter with 4 smallers dishes (don't remember exactly but it included prawns, some kind of small salad, fried rice with pinapple and green curry with beef), morning glory and giggling wings. Our dishes arrived really quick, we have waited maybe 10 minutes. Immeditely we have asked for chopsticks. Waitress disappeared for 10 minutes and came with the cheapest possible take away chopsticks. It's odd that Giggling Squid is serving dishes which is common to eat by chopsticks like pad thai or some types of noodles and they don't have any better chopsticks. My thai red curry was good but nothing above average. My partners' all 4 small dishes were dissapointing: the small salad was untasty (it was a weird combination of vegetable which I never experienced before), prawns were alright, fried rice wasn't fried (also was missing egg and there was a single piece of pinnaple), and the green curry had 3 small pieces of beef. Additional 2 starters which we have ordered: giggling wings had glazed sauce but it wasn't enough to fully cover them and it was way too sweet. Morning glory was OK. All dishes were overpriced (specially the tapas lunch set for £19 which half of it we have left because it wasn't tasty at all) but the most ridicules price was for morning glory. Literally 2 small spoons of vegetable with sauce and garlic for £7.5. During whole meal no one asked us if everything is fine, if we need anything and if there is any problem with any dish. In totally the whole meal cost us £51 + additional 10% service (which we almost didn't receive). It's really high price for that size of dishes, quality of food and totally non-authentic dishes.

this place ISNT what it was 3 years ago . we went in last week with family & it was to be honest very mediocre, food was sent back as it was cold , having been in here many times over the last 4 years it has gone down hill FAST . THE MENU has changed for the worst & whoever is in the kitchen is different to who was out there 3yrs ago . the food just ISNT what it once was. i personally dont rate the food here anymore . the only thing any good here is the service !! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE TRY A THAI SOMEWHERE ELSE !!

Went for the first time with party of 6 for my sisters birthday and they were amazing. They even noticed it was her birthday after noting a present in a bag and at the end of the near brought a desert and candle over singing happy birthday for her! Nene of us had requested it so it was such a lovely touch. The food was amazing and staff was so friendly, popping over now and then to fill up water glasses and ask for any other drink offers, but not too often it gets too much. The place was so pretty and sooo clean! Very nice and warm and even though it was late and busy the staff were soooo cheerful and smiley. The pork belly starter was a huge favourite and I highly recommend trying. A bit spenny but for a nice occasion and the food and staff quality it was perfect. Would visit again for sure! Jenny was our server as well as a couple others who I didn't know names of but were lush and the birthday dessert at the end just topped off a great meal out. Highlyyyyy recommend! Thank youuu xx

We went to Giggling Squid on New Year's Day. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff are lovely and we all agreed the food was fantastic. We had lots of Fish, Squid, Salmon and Pad Thai.

Visited yesterday with a big group, The starters and mains were spot on as per usual. We all found the service to be very slow, Each drinks order took 20 minutes +, Staff were busy cleaning tables instead of making our drinks. Even requesting for sauce took a very long time to come out. Communicating with some staff was also abit difficult. Overall good food but very very slow service considering their was plenty of staff working yesterday.

We stopped there to have some drinks 🍸. Staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was cozzy.

Been to this restaurant many times over the last 3 years or so, absolutely bang on, always of a very high standard, food, service and even the temperature of my beer! Spicing levels spot on, no need to ask for extra hot.

Came here for a work do, stunning food and great service. Only downside is the gluten free menu being a barcode, poor signal inside meant took long to load. Printed out alternative menus for dietary restrictions would be 5 star. Highly recommend!

We have always wanted to try a Giggling Squid and the branch in Clifton did not disappoint. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful and the extensive menu was great - difficult to choose from in fact. Not particularly cheap, but then nothing is these days. Would definitely visit again.

We went as a group of 6 on Wednesday night. I was delighted to take my work colleagues here but it shortly turned to embarrassment. Cold spring rolls. Forgotten drinks and one inedible meal. Service charge taken off and meal deducted. But it’s not the point. You don’t get this evening back do you.

Absolute terrible experience on Friday 24th November 2023 Turned up at 7.29pm for a 7.30 booking, was told to come back in 10 minutes as table wasn’t ready. Finally got our table 15 minutes late and our food was brought out hastily and rushed, the food itself was ok. We were and asked for our table back before we ordered dessert.? Complained to the waitress who then totally ignored us as we asked for further drinks to finish our meal. Have eaten here before and had a far better experience but would not be in a hurry to rush back. We left hastily because there were at least a dozen people waiting in the doorway for their tables. Too many bookings felt like a canteen experience.

Unbelievably good a real find !

A party of 14 dined here for a 60th Birthday party. Not only was the food 10/10 but so was the service. The team accommodated us so well and they went the extra mile to make the day special. All our food came at the same time which I thought was exceptional considering the size of our party. For parties our size you NEED to book well on advance however, they often can't take large bookings on a Friday or Saturday due to demand. Parking is free on Sundays though so it was a win, win. I will be back here for sure!

We love this chain although our first time in Clifton. Very much the same high standard as all the rest. Adore the food. (We especially love the Tapas menu). Prices are very competitive and the service is always of a really high standard. If you want Thai food we’d definitely recommend Giggling Squid.

Lovely waiters & manager but taste was not that great but was ok

Beautiful food, service and setting. Lovely menu choices, your traditional Thai food and some quite different choices! All of our meals were lovely & felt looked after. One of us had a shellfish allergy and they were really careful and attentive.

Really nice meal here, staff found us a seat at a busy time. Service was prompt and polite. The food is really high quality and came in good time. Lovely atmosphere, well decorated. Great place to eat on a date night or with a group of friends. The curries and noodle dishes mostly have a vegetarian option available but the menu is quite meat heavy. Cocktails were good and their house gin is a refreshing difference to most restaurants.

Staff were polite and accommodating, food was great at a reasonable price. Although my partner found the curry too spicy, so if you're sensitive consider asking for food to be mild.

I'm not in the business of giving one star ratings just because of one failing so this review is 3 star because the food is good - if a little lacking in spice by authentic Thai standards - and the service is good, especially given how busy it always is here. Now the bad bit. This is the latest in numerous (10+) visits to this restaurant and on only one occasion has the advertised large beer been available. On every other occasion I have been told "We've just sold out" or "we're waiting for a delivery". If there are genuine problems with the supplier then, after 5+ years pf business, it's time to change supplier. If it's a problem with the purchasing department it's time to make a change in that department. If on the other hand it is because the restaurant chain makes more money selling two small beers for more than a pound more than one large beer then it is a blatant, head office organised, rip off. It is compounded by the restaurant being so busy. A couple of good chugs and the beer has gone then getting a fresh one is dependant on catching the eye of one of the busy waiting staff. I would be happy to place a large bet that the majority of the beer drinkers would much prefer a large beer to a small one - especially given that the ridiculous parking restrictions in Clifton render it virtually impossible to drive here and park - and would love to be able to swig at least two bigguns whilst eating. I raised this complaint before departing and the manager acknowledged that this was a frequent complaint. Sadly the staff suffered because I refused to pay the service charge since the policy of the company is such that the service I would like has not been delivered (through no fault of the staff concerned) I shall doubtless return and fully anticipate that this rip-off will not have been rectified. A call to trading standards (do they still exist?) will be the next action. This chain is patently advertising an item that it rarely if ever has available.

Well we had our first Thai meal last night as our son had turned 36 , so we decided to see what Thai food was all about , after a friend suggested the Giggling Squid in Clifton village, we were most impressed with staff, food and character of venue , what a lovely introduction to Thai cuisine we had, food quality was of an exceptional high standard, tasted superb as we all tried bits off each others plates, real family feel to restaurant polite, happy servers, great choice of dishes, when were were ordering and asking questions about the food the servers were helpful with great knowledge of there foods on offer . I highly recommend you give them a try you will not be disappointed.

The service was amazing, the food was gorgeous, and the cocktails awesome. On the night it was a bit loud as a lot of groups were in but not an issue - everything else more than made up for it. Will be back here very soon. Awesome.
