Spice Tandoori in Highland

If you look at my review history, you’ll see I’m usually very positive. But this was genuinely dreadful. The papadom starter was passable, and the naan was fine, but that’s where the compliments end. All three curries we ordered were shockingly bad. My tikka masala was so sweet it was genuinely revolting, more like a dessert than a curry. It tasted of nothing but sugar and was doused in red colouring. I tried my brother’s and dad’s too, exactly the same, albeit my dad’s actually had salt in it. Sickly sweet, with bizarre tubular strips of chicken that hadn’t been marinated at all. We actually laughed in disbelief when comparing the fluorescent red (almost pink) curry to my red top, it was a photo opportunity for all the wrong reasons.

Very good Indian restaurant, you wont be dissappointed. Pappadums and four different pickles, excellent. We had chicken korma, balti and some other orange flavoured curry, everybody liked a lot. Good rice and naan bread. Extra good mango lassi. High recommendation.

Chicken pakora just ok. Didn’t like the mint sauce. Pakora usually comes with pink pakora sauce. This was mint sauce that I don’t expect to eat unless it’s covered in chocolate.

Absolute Horrendous! Worst Indian food I’ve ever had, all I could taste was tomato and heavy food colour. The gravy had a spoiled smell, the garlic naan was without garlic and served cold.

My honest review - Extremely disappointed with the food. The bhuna was soggy and the tomato was spoiled, the chicken was dry. For the price we paid, I expected much better. Definitely not coming back or recommending this place to anyone.

1st visit while on holiday. Ordered large lemonade, vegetable pakora, chicken tikka meata chilli with plain nan bread. Was lovely, couldn't fault it. The staff were very attentive and chatty. The place was pretty busy for a Wednesday early evening. Would definitely recommend. A little pricier than my local restaurant. £4 for a lemonade is pretty steep!

Visited with my partner, decor is nice and the atmosphere was warm. We ordered poppadoms with the usual spiced onions etc and vegetable pakora. The poppadoms were very fresh and the vegetable pakora was tasty. I don’t have a large appetite so we ordered a chicken tikka masala for main with pilau rice and plane nan bread to share. The tikka masala was very disappointing in flavour, the sauce was very runny and the chicken chewy. The nan bread was more like a chapatti in size and although freshly fired and baked we didn’t enjoy the flavour. We ordered a coke and a Peroni to drink with our meal and I think it was very expensive for what we had. We felt that we have had better microwave tikka masala’s for the price. The bill was £42.00. I think the tikka masala on its own was £16.50.

Very prime location with a view. But the taste is extremely bad. I won't recommend this place.

Great views of the loch. Food portions substantial and delicious. We got jalfrezi, korai, tikka masala and a spinach dish, all were lovely. Staff were great too. Fair price considering location and food portions.

A lovely Indian restaurant along the High Street in Fort William. We received a very warm welcome. All the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. The food was so delicious, hot, fresh and well presented. The tables by the windows at the back overlook the Loch, which is a beautiful view.

Loved the Naga Morich curry. Spiciest curry I have had since I left Sri Lanka. Non spicy option are also brilliant.

We were so pleased to find this place. Enjoyed a really fabulous lamb bhuna. Friendly, attentive staff. Highly recommend!

Tuesday evening and a fantastic meal. Good service from start to finish, food absolutely amazing, flavours and taste were mouthwatering. Good value for what we had. Unsure where the bad reviewers are eating because every meal we have had here has always been of the high quality. Has to be one of the best Indian restaurants we have visited in the UK, Well done to all the team

Tasty food, great portion sizes, staff were nice and friendly. We were skeptical due to some negative reviews however exceeded expectations. We will be returning.

Got the chicken pakora, popadoms, tandoori grill. Every bit of it stinking. No pakora sauce for some reason, no sauce with the grill, asked for a curry sauce and they gave us the most sugary tub of masala you’ve ever tasted and charged us a fiver for it. Server was sound enough and the place itself looked decent. Food was genuinely rotten and bill was way higher than I expected, popadoms and a tub of sauce coming to 12 quid, 22 quid for a dry grill, although I’d have been ok paying it if the food wasn’t rank.

I can't remember the name of food,the pink one way too sweet but the other were good.

We asked the waiter for a jug of water and they didn’t bring it, just ignored us. The food was so expensive compared to the amount of food we got. Some of the food was pretty cold and unseasoned along with tuff chicken.

I had to rate it one star because going minus isn’t possible. My order was full of uncooked chicken and a pube (yes disgusting I know!) in my rice.

Past experiences have been very positive with delicious food. But tonight very disappointed! Chicken tikka over cooked, salad was just supermarket leaf salad, & bhuna was very bland.

Far too expensive, could get 2 curry’s just as good if not better for same price at other Indians within lochaber/ Argyll Bute. Tasty but too expensive for a takeaway curry. £22.60! Butter chicken with rice

The food was very unimpressive. The ‘chutney plate’ served with the poppadoms were awful and cheap and the spiced onion had zero spice whatsoever, just red onions very roughly chopped. The two curries we got were utterly dreadful too - both watered down, and one coconut one was so bland - just coconut milk / sweetly sick jaja sauce with no complexity of flavour. The other curry split in the dish, with the added water sitting on the surface. Again, it was bland and tasteless. It’s daylight robbery to charge £16.95 for a chicken tikka too!! Rice was ok (only thing that was in the whole meal!), but was served spilling over the sides of a tiny side plate (odd choice of serving dish), and the plain nan bread was tiny - the smallest we’ve ever had served up. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - go somewhere, in fact anywhere, else in Fort William. Wetherspoons curries are better!! Staff at the till asked what we thought, we told them the truth, they weren’t interested.

I came here for take out a few years ago. We decided to try it again. I checked the reviews and was surprised at some of the negative ones. Our meals were delicious. We had onion bhaji, veg biriani and chicken tikka aam achari

Really really poor, what I can only describe as a sauce made of water and mango chutney, runny like water, no veg in it, just a couple chillies cut in half and thrown in, meat was hard as I’ve ever had chicken tikka, all cooked separate and thrown in the end, then we let these people on our soil charge up premium prices for that. The fat that come off the chicken pakora Absolute disgrace! Only getting away with it because Mother Nature in the background.

Tandoori starter was cold, was supposed to be lamb tikka , was not soft and pink in middle, chicken was cold , very disappointing

Every time I visit Scotland I make space in my diary to stay at Fort William simply to have a stop off at Spice Tandoori. Food is spot on, great service. I always have the chicken Balti with saag aloo, and cheese naan. Yummmmmeh.

Very poor quality and left us very disappointed wondering how they justify the cost. Oily, bland food which was also very watery, really the worst Indian experience we've had. Local but will not be returning.

An Indian restaurant that refuses to deviate from its menu, Refusd to do a Paneer shashlick even though Paneer is on the menu, Then they INSISTED we had ordered two Baileys drinks when we hadn’t. I eventually paid for them to stop the manager’s constant insistence we had ordered them….

The place looks decent, that’s about the only compliment I can give this place. Food was really bad and the service wasn’t up to the mark. I didn’t feel like I was valued as a customer. I was even asked to help clear out the table I had my food at.

I'm surprised about the previous reviews because we really enjoyed our meal here. We had curries and shashlik and both were very tasty. I don't like green peppers so mentioned it to the waiter who asked the kitchen to not put them on my meal. Our waiter was really attentive and stopped to have a conversation with us whilst taking our order. The restaurant was warm and spotlessly clean. We would definitely eat her again when we come to Fort William.

We were a party of 4 on the 23/12/24 we all enjoyed a lovely meal at this lovely Restaurant food was excellent and plenty of it,the staff were really lovely and very friendly. Restaurant was very nicely decorated for Christmas we will definiately visit again when in the area thank you all for making our evening a very enjoyably one.

Unfortunately a really disappointing experience Taste is just not there but it seems like it's to the taste of tourists that come by.... 0.5 stars for the diet coke and 0.5 star for the electric heater

A restaurant's quality is primarily on hospitality and customer experience. Unfortunately Spice Tandoori needs to work on both. Had an interesting experience where a spoiled vegetarian curry was served and when challenged on the matter, they rather said that they don't think so instead of replacing the curry or refunding the price. The conversation was not friendly either. People at the reception were drunk and were asking unnecessary questions about Customers whereabouts etc. Anyways, An Indian customer travels places to get to Fort William, UK for tourism. And Indians for sure know what is a spoiled food.

We visit from London very poor quality of food and prices r high I would recommend chicken cups instead

What a wonderful place. Lovely ambient feeling and fabulous food. We had Lamb Jalfrezi, Pilau Rice, Pappadums, dips Bombay Aloo & chappatis. Large portions as we ordered 1 between us & still couldn't finish it all. Good value for money & excellent service. We will call again next time we're up in Scotland

Excellent early evening meal at Spice Tandoori, Fort William. Menu well marked up for Gluten Free options. I would say it's the best Garlic Chilli Lamb dish I have ever had. Coconut Rice was awesome.

The restaurant serves Bangladeshi food, not authentic Indian food. Dishes are sweet and not seasoned properly. Ambiance is ok, service is good. Management needs to improve the food quality

I only do good reviews but this time was way too bad. That was not chicken tikka masala. That was chicken with sugar and food colouring. No spices or salt. First restaurant that I’ve been to, that I wanted to get up and leave. Even though the food that I ordered as main was awful, the papadum starter was good and the staff was friendly and very polite.

Pretty poor in terms of food quality. Basically bland with pushy staff trying to hurry us up the whole time and treating us like we had never ordered Indian before. Big mistake all round.

The curry dishes were loaded with hideous amount of oil and some weird reddish color. This is no where close to proper indian taste or presentation leave aside authenticity.

Great place with great service. Don't understand why the reviews are low. They offer a good non-veg variety of curies to choose from ranging from North to South Indian and everything in between. Naans were well done and good vegetarian dishes too.

The curry club desperately needed this after walking up Ben Nevis. Ordered a Tikka Masala but was presented with a curry more like a chasni. Ordered a mixed pakora and was only given 2 pieces of Chicken and Veg. Rice came separately and was expensive on top of the curry. Food was nice but prices were too high for what it was. 7/10 🇬🇧

14 of us enjoyed a night out here with many differing dishes all delicious. We were a bit wary because of some negative reviews but found the service and food great. One comment, the waiter pushed the papadams and relishes as a starter all too much for us and not necessary. Food servings were a good size , would definately recommend get dishes to share rice between 2-3, ala true Indian style.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent. Sadly the service was seating us, taking an order and then tracking them down for the bill. The vegetable samosa tasted like the frozen kind I get from the grocery store but worse. The chicken tikka masala was rather bad. The chicken wasn’t marinated in the sauce and obviously thrown in last second. The sauce tasted completely different from any tikka masala I’ve had before and in a bad way. Zero flavor or spice. The one saving grace was the naan which was half decent. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but it’s the worst Indian food I’ve ever had.

Delicious food, super friendly staff!

Lovely place to eat, staff are friendly, but I knocked a star off as we asked for an extra drink from the man who served the food, he doesn't do drinks apparently but said he would ask colleagues to come and take the order, they never arrived. Finally got a drink when I asked a young waitress who was passing. Apart from that the meal was excellent. The lamb nearly has to be eaten with a spoon, it is so tender. Not cheap but worth the money.

It is a great setting with windows looking onto the Loch. The service was good and the food arrived very quickly we felt a bit rushed. Some of the waiting staff seemed a little aloof. Both my wife and I had lamb madras, which had plenty of meat and was spiced at just the right heat My only complaint with the food was that the curry was quite watery. The bill was quite expensive but in fairness to this restaurant all the restaurants we visited in Fort William we found expensive.

It runs mainly because of its location and off hours operations but the food is below average and so is the service. Avoid asking for waiter’s recommendations as they will recommend a sweet naan with an even sweeter gravy, making it seem like having a dessert for the main course. Upon raising this, he picked up an argument and cant say the main staff also cared much about the feedback. Overall below average experience. Things we ordered - Dal tadka (big garlic pieces) , Paneer pasanda (exceptionally sweet) , Garlic naan and peshawari naan (food colorings in both)

Poor service, bland luke-warm starters and extortionate prices. The waiter served the table next to us first, even though they arrived after us. He was totally disinterested in our questions about the food and drink. The whole experience was pretty average apart from the price. £63 for 2 beers, 1 starter, 2 curry’s and one naan bread. Absolute rip-off, I pay less in London for far superior curry’s. Stay away folks it’s basically cr*p.

Visited fort William for a few days and decided we would like to try an Indian restaurant as this is one of our favourite food. The restaurant staff were attentive and food was very good, we would certain,y recommend a visit here

Don't be lured in by the smell as you walk by, for several reasons. The garlic naan was orange because they added food coloring. The chicken korma was loaded with sugar, it was unbelievable. The am achari was absolutely soaked in oil, it was gross. The tandoori wasn't awful, it was the most edible of all.

The food Iwas very spicy. and taste like raw chilly .we couldn't finish it because it was that much spicy

We ordered Chicken Biryani for the take out. The Biryani was just unseasoned rice with chicken pieces and a lot of raw chillies. Worst biryani ever tasted. The Chef needs serious coaching to understand the Biryani dish and training to build skills to cook it.

Really welcoming atmosphere with a lovely view of the loch. Plentiful staff that quickly get you what you need and are very welcoming. Food is fantastic, full of flavor with varying heat levels. We got the pappadum with pickles great and slightly spicy starter. Miced kebab was great xovered in carmelized onions Followed up with a chicken roganjosh which was full of flavor but not that spicy for a mild spicy tolerance person. Also got the lamb jalfreezi. Lamb was tender and not over cooked. Dish was spicy as expected and also full of flavor. 10/10 would recommend

Reviews are so weird. The negative reviews almost steered us away saying things like "horrible food" and whatnot. We both got lamb dishes and they were pretty tasty! Definitely above average. Would recommend. Cool ambiance. :)

We had three meals and two were great, the korma was way to sweet. Staff were helpful and friendly, we will eat here are next time we are in Fort William.

I wasn't sure about getting a meal from here based on some reviews. We had chicken korma with pashwari nan. This was one of the best I've had. It was a bit pricey compared to other takeaways, however as they gave you pompodoms, spicy onions and raita dip as extras it was good value for money. Would certainly recommend it if your in the area.

The service is very good, but almost a bit too intensive. The food was good, a little too sweet for our taste. Since the rice is not included and the meals themselves were rather more expensive, the total price was a bit high in the end. The ambience is nice in the back of the restaurant with a view of the water and the landscape.

We were slightly concerned about eating here as the reviews were so mixed! I simply cannot understand some of the negative reviews. 6 of us ate late on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was really busy with a great atmosphere. Overall the service was excellent (although had to ask for some tap water a few times)! Drinks arrived quickly, as did the starters. 6 different starters and 6 different mains. Everyone was happy with the quality and portions! Thanks for a lovely meal! 👍

A sure bet for a change from hamburgers and Fish&Chips. Excellent cuisine and impeccable welcome. Friendly advice: come early or just after 8:30 p.m. because rush hours are terrible! (Between deliveries and tourists waiting...) while at 9:00 p.m. you will have the superb room with a view of the Loch. We loved it and we had a blast! I'm dropping my 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great atmosphere and food very good. The starter pickles and sauces went down a treat and the mains were plentiful and very tasty. Could have been a little bit more spicy or rated slightly different but all down to taste, mighty fine meal

Okay, this was crazy. We had four different dishes, two were really good and the other two were so bad that I would give negative stars if that were possible. These two dishes were sweeter than sugar itself. I only tried a small amount of said two dishes, but I still can't get rid of the sweetness in my mouth even two hours after eating them. But the bright pink colour of the massala should have been the first warning sign. I reckon my daughter, who ordered this dish, will be glowing all night. Sounds funny? But it isn't. If you want to eat there and play the lottery to win a hopefully enjoyable dish, let me remind you that in any lottery, most people don't win. Just one tip, if you love the risk, avoid every meal that somehow mentions the word "sweet" in the menu. Please read the other 1 star reviews that we should have read before. They are all true.

Had 7 or 8 starters, food was delicious

Avoid this place if you are drawn in by the promise of anything gluten free as advertised on their menu. They have absolutely no idea about GF food or drink. They are either liars, ignorant or both. You have been warned.

We were well received, in a good mood and served within a completely normal time frame. The dishes were good and the very soft naans are not to be missed! Bonus for the back room after the stairs for its multiple windows to enjoy the magnificent landscape. I recommend!

Collected a takeaway from here and even on a busy Friday it was ready on time. Food all tasty, will definitely order again. (Deserves more than its 3.8 rating to date)

Unfortunately, this restaurant in Fort William falls short of delivering an authentic Indian dining experience. The food lacks the true flavors of India and doesn't come close to the genuine taste of Indian cuisine. I doubt this restaurant has anything to do with Indian food. Sadly, I cannot recommend this place for anyone seeking real Indian cuisine.

Delicious.an absolutely brilliant spot to eat. Especially if you are a tourist like myself. The best way to end a day of enjoyment and fun. Filled us right up after our attempt at half of ben nevis. Would definitely recommend 👍👍

Amazing food and fantastic service. We came as a party of 4 following a long hike up Ben Nevis. We all tried something we’d never had before and were not disappointed with the quality of the food. Absolutely delicious! All 4 of us said the curries were some of the best we’d ever had. It was the perfect meal after a long tiring day. Would love to visit again.

A big disappointment as the food was not authentic. The paneer korai tested as paneer in tomato sauce. It was all food colouring honestly. We had to add salt and black pepper in the dishes to get some basic taste. Never gonna visit again and do not recommend it to anyone. Please look for other options if you want good food.
