Disgusting!!! How this can be called a buffet is ridiculous there was Apsuloutly no food a bunch of currys that had no meat in it just sauce there was empty trays everywhere there was only 4 other people there at the time so they just simply don't put any food out I couldent even put rice with the sauce because they had none desserts were tescos tiny cup cakes that you pay 80p for 12 I struggled to get even half a plate of food witch I couldn't eat because it was disgusting and nothing was there and I still had to pay £45 we were there for less than 20 minutes more or less drinking a coke horrible atmosphere

A really great place to eat, great food and plenty of it. Great choice available. My family go there quite often and it is always excellent. Staff are always welcoming and pleasant. Throughly recommend this place.

Worst place I've ever eaten, looking at other reviews, mine is of the same opinion. We all walked in, simply told to find a table. No table service, after waiting for a long time we were told we'd have to order drinks at the bar ourselves, no problem but would have been nice to be informed of how the place works. Food was stone cold and with how dry EVERYTHING was I'm guessing it had been sitting there all day. The lager we all left as judging by the taste, the lines hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. Would never recommend or go there again. Absolutely no atmosphere, music, nothing.

The food was tasty and you can go back for as many helpings as you like. Unlimited soft drinks and dessert included in the price makes this really good value for money. We enjoyed our lunch there today.

Don`t Dine here, i had dinner here last week and food was terrible and pathetic. I had severe food poisoning after eating here. food seems completely defrosted and then served. poor hygiene in the kitchen. toilets are very filthy. I never recommend this restaurant for any occasion. POOR food.

This was the worst buffet I have ever visited. The food was very poor, tasted old and frankly disgusting. There isn't much of a variety of food for the price and manager is very rude. Unfortunately we did not check online hygiene rating prior to visiting as we had stopped by after going bowling but they have a 2 star hygiene rating and surprised it was not 1 due to all my family members had an upset stomach and vomiting a day later. I would definitely not recommend to anyone.. AVOID!!

A massive thankyou to all the staff at this restaurant, for making my husband's 50th birthday so perfect, my husband and our family were welcomed by all the staff, above and beyond service, food was out of this world delicious, will 100% be visiting here again. All food clearly labelled for allergy advice.

Our experience wasn't the best, the food wasn't to a very high standard and did not taste nice at all. The prices for the food you get is not value for money as when we arrived there was barely any food there and we had to wait a long time for the food to be cooked. The staff were polite but the interactions between staff and customers were minimal.

I used to enjoy this restaurant before ( year ago ), but recently i visited and a few of my friends who also visited, the quality has declined noticeably and the food doesn't seem as fresh as it used to be, and it's disappointing compared to my previous positive experiences ( 1 year ago ), service wise it was fine but doesn't worth for the price as i see they just raised the price a bit than earlier....I was thinking to re visit for dinner tonight for the one last time keeping my positive experiences initially i had and i hope all food to be fresh, if still didn't had any change in quality and not fresh i don't want to take a chance again ever as it left me with bad belly last few times.

The food quality and taste was below avg. items like onion bhaji, onion rings were soggy and didn’t feel any crispyness. It was not freshly made. The taste of almost everything was below avg to be honest. The food choices were also very limited. The only things I really liked were Tarka daal and angoor rabadi. Considering buffet prices i find this place extremely expensive and not a real value for money. I must admit that the staff were very friendly and helpful. Full marks for the service

Very disappointed the food have gone downhill we use to love dining at this restaurant however the food is very bland and not much of an option. I had to leave here as I began to feel very unwell. The staff are lovely and very professional. It’s just a big shame about the quality of the food.

Not to many choices of food, all foods have pretty much same taste, chilli used in qll but no flavours to distinguish dishes.. the site describes foods from 9 countries, this was not defined my experience.. the place looks dirty, food islands look untidy and dirty also. Not worth the money.. Staff are polite.

AVOID! Very limited selection. Advertised as global cuisine when infact it is simply curry. Terrible atmosphere should have taken the hint by the place being empty. All food was barely warm, terrible service with stacks of plates left everywhere. Unprofessional staff who need some customer service training. Food made my friend be sick for several minutes outside. DON’T EAT HERE, will never return! (If I could give a minus rating I would)

Been going to Spice Route for years and always loved it there . Went last Sunday and have to say was really disappointed. Food was cold. No interaction from staff at all, our plates were left on the table for the whole visit and we were the only ones in there. Price wise far too expensive for what it is. I always used to have a Masala Dosa but now you have to pay for that on top of the £18.50 for Sunday buffet. I think it was an extra £4.50 Not good value for money and I made the decision that it would be my last visit there to eat. I have to say however that the stir fry was hot and tasty but it took a while for the chef to come and make it for you. The whole place could do with a good clean it looks past it's sell by date and definitely needs a good spruce and Spring Clean. Sorry Spice Route I won't be back...

Been two years in a row for my husband's birthday, on a Monday in December. Both times it has been empty. The food has been brilliant both times. Naans cooked fresh to order and are yummy. There was a good variety of curries available, especially given it was a Monday lunch - highly recommend the chicken makhani! Good mix of sides including some Indian and some English (and some elsewhere) so kids would have a range of options if they don't like curry.

Quite disappointing overall. We love Indian food but felt some of the dishes here were over powering, actually left feeling quite sick and we didn't eat much. No real interaction with staff except for payment. Really over priced for what it is.

went with my vegetarian sister in law. She picked up the veggie fajita. She bit into it and said she tasted chicken. Spoke to the chef when he said “oh, the signs are the wrong way round”. Dealt with it in such a poor manner. Sister in law had one bite of food and didn’t want anything else so we left and got food somewhere else. Imagine if she was allergic….. appalling reaction too, not even bothered!

You will not be disappointed when visiting the Spice Route. The made to order fresh naan bread is great and the curries are made from scratch following their original recipes. The chef is friendly and always on hand should you need anything. Overall a great experience and one of the best places to eat at in the Cardiff Bay area.

Avoid at all costs Absolutely disgusting, poor food, cold food, poor selection, rude staff, even ruder management. Avoid avoid avoid!

Went there for a dinner and not really worth it. There is no verity of foods . I would not recommend anyone else going there for a food

Unfortunately since our last visit it has become no longer value for money. It felt run down, and the food wasn't as good and nowhere near the original quality, real shame. The whole red dragon centre felt run down.

Food is ok. Some things are average, others like noodle are very good so typival of most places. Staff levels are low which affects service during non peak days and times, which is understandable. No nan as have to order specially which takes time but at least you get it fresh. Desserts are lacking and below average. Soft drinks were nice and fizzy. They serve halal food so good for me. Overall 3/5.

Friendly staff, no complaints there but the atmosphere was dead. Plenty of selection on food, including fresh wok cooked, which is cool Fruit was discoloured and aged. Everything was clean except the ice cream cabinet, along with frozen ice in the ice cream tubs (which, as we all know, ice on ice cream takes months to accumulate) Sadly, it's simply not worth the £18.50 per person for dinner, which i paid with a refillable Pepsi for £3.50 because that's business, but there will never be any repeat customers from me. The car park is enclosed so car parking prices are on top of food, on top of drinks, taking prices to near £25 if driving. My advice to the owner is to sell the place or relocate.

Lovely restaurant, went for valentines day and it was one of the only places to look the part, had an initial small issue but speaking to the manager he was more than happy to help us. Was very sincere and helpful, will definitely be recommending to a friend, food was lovely, fresh and varied , can tell they put effort into every dish, with additional fresh food on request!! (small note if you do get cold easily just ask to be placed further in the restaurant on arrival : ) ) will come again thanks for a lovely special evening !!

*STALE FOOD* The worst buffet I had in my whole life, stale food from morning or the day before I’m not sure. Chicken Biryani was smelling bad, literally none of the dishes were fresh. The only good thing was the freshly made Naan and Dosa by the Chef and everything else was stale. Staff were picking food from buffet with their hands and eating it right there, very unprofessional and disgusting. Overpriced for such food and service. Please try to avoid this place if you can.

Wow. Just don't go. Food was unbelievable as human food. Plates Where dirty. Deserts came from aldi. Pizza from Iceland. It was so bad. Like so bad. Go 5 guys instead..

The place we originally booked let us down last minute for our Staff Development Day! Luckily, Spice Route was able to accommodate 50+ people on the day with no hesitation. This wouldn't usually be the case but they were understanding. In the end, we really enjoyed our time. Good food options. We particularly enjoyed the dosa and noodles which were cooked fresh. Good dessert selection too. What could have been a disastrous day became a really enjoyable day in the end so thank you 🙏🏽

Been here several times now and although i always enjoyed it, yesterdays visit was the best yet. As we arrived, i could see there was a member of waiting staff checking food that was already displayed on the serving counter. The lady at the bar greeted us with a big smile, and seated us straight away and got our drinks. It was very quiet upon our arrival, but this changed very quickly and soon it was filling up with hungry customers. There was a good feel to the place, with two table waiting staff taking drinks orders and clearing your plates as you finish. (This is a definite improvement) Food has also improved. I am unsure how to put my finger on how, because we always enjoyed, but the quality is just better now. There wasn't anything I ate that I didn't enjoy, and I always find a few things that I don't like. The chef for the live cooking station was in the kitchen out the back when we arrived, but that is to be expected if we were only the second customers to be seated, but a member of staff did get him and he greeted us and took our orders. Great food, for the price paid. We are already returning customers, but we will now be recommending Spice Route to others.

Curries were bland, options were poor, most of the desserts were cheap shop bought desserts, staff were friendly but clueless at the same time. We were billed as students which we had explained we was but when we went to pay, they tried charging us as non students.

Don't like this place anymore. Was eating and asked for some tissues and the manager tried charging me for tissues. He's so cheap. I refused to pay for tissues so he told me to leave. So rude. Will take my business only to places that value customers.

It's an all you can eat buffet, good selection of starters and mains, vegetarian options also, the wok station is excellent, reasonably priced.

I have only given it 1 star so that I can leave a comment. The only good thing about this place is that it was within walking distance of the hotel's nearby. The service was not great, after waiting quite some time to be asked for drinks I approached the bar to request drinks only to be given a glass and told to help myself after I had gone back to my table. The drinks tastes watered down and cheap. The food itself was cold lacked flavour and tasted vile. I'm so glad I wasn't very hungry as this is the first time I have left a buffet feeling as though I didnt eat. My surprise however was yet to come. I was given the bill and it was extortionate for what little we had. Admittedly I didn't check the prices as I as thinking of feeding my hungry child. I could see the lunch buffet price so figured it wouldn't cost that much more but wow was I surprised. I feel as though I have been robbed by this restaurant. I had curry from a chippy last for a fraction of the price and that was miles better. These guys cant even fry poppadoms correctly. A true disappointment to the Indian restaurant trade.

El gerente fue útil para no cobrarnos, ¡pero no valió la pena enfermarse! !

Las pintas olían a azufre y no se podían beber. La comida salió demasiado rápido, lo que se mostró en la calidad, ya que 1 entrante y plato principal estaban fríos. Evidentemente, las hamburguesas estaban fritas y el pan de ajo asado. El personal no sabía qué platos se servían, aunque el gerente fue útil para ajustar la factura.

What a great meal out...catered for one dairy free, one vegetarian and two normal diets. Staff were really friendly and helpful talking through all the options. Food was really tasty and fresh.

No puedo entender a las personas que dicen que es caro o que no tiene una buena relación calidad-precio cuando puedes comer todo lo que quieras. No es lujoso, pero siempre tiene muchos clientes indios y asiáticos, probablemente debido a que la comida es más auténtica que su habitual tikka masala angustiada en grasa de su comida para llevar local. Siempre hemos encontrado el lugar limpio, el personal amable y, aunque la elección de la comida puede variar mucho, siempre la hemos encontrado fresca y caliente. De ninguna manera es azul cordon, pero si quieres una buena comida fresca básica a un precio decente, pruébalo.

Never quite sure about buffet restaurants but this way better than your norm. And dare I say as good as any a la cart restaurant we've tasted for a while.Great choice of Asian food with tastiest curries. The wok station was really fresh and tasty.Great service and great food. Omg I would avoid at all cost half the food was tepid and looked old. They were also empty at lunch time we thought it was a little strange. Then a couple of staff started cleaning the hot hoods above some of the food while food was underneath. We didn't eat after that and left. They curry was like it had been watered down. There would be more flavour in dish water. Disgusting left feeling siçk. WOULD NOT recommend at all.

We went to spice route on the 8th December 2019. The worker at the cashier desk was rude as we walked in and over charged me and a family member before we even ate , We asked for a refund and we said we didn't want to sit and eat there . He refused to put money back on my card and even refused to give us cash as he said that's not their policy. We asked to speak to the manager and he was like there is no manager and hes not available. His attitude was discussing and I wont be eating there again.

Me and couple of my friends went to visit cardiff bay for the first time and thought we'd try some Indian food. We happened to walk into Spice Route which when we entered we were greated by a lovely lady, who gave us seats and took our drink orders, It was very unusual for a resturant to take money first but we were okay with it as we were hungry, haha! The food was absolutely amazing and the chicken korma had to be one of the best ive tried. The place was clean and the toilets were good no bad smells or anything. This was a very pleasant experience for both me and my friends. I definitely recommend this place to tourists or anyone willing to try Indian food. Will 100% go again.

A group of 9 of us went to a 60th birthday celebration. Everybody enjoyed themselves food was very tasty. Plenty of choice for veggies.

I had went here with my family only last week, the food was amazing, the service was absolutely brilliant. The lady waiter treated us with respect and made sure everything was fine and comfortable. Definitely recommend for people wanting to try a new spot.

Went for a meal with out friends for our anniversary and when we walked in they demanded that we paid before we ate which we thought was a bit strange... upon eating our first plate i nearly chocked on a chicken bone... then as my friend ate she pulled out a huge elastic band from her curry!! We complained and the woman said sorry it was an accident and kept saying to my friend try more try more its nice i promise and was pushing it in her face!! They refused a refund for all of us and the manager was so rude! Disgusting place its filthy here too... will never ever be back and wouldn't recommend anyone to go here! Save ur money and eat else where

I took my 11 year old daughter and 18 year old son to Cardiff for a treat due to it being my daughters birthday. The staff were unhelpful. I had to approach a waiter and ask for more drinks. Not much food on offer. Was charged adult price for my daughter. It wasn't explained that due to my daughter being over the age of 9 she would be charged for an adult meal!

we went 60 people for my daughter birthday party. It was really experience. I love dosa, they doing three different types of dosa and live cooking as well. The chat amazing, all of my-friends like it. It was such a wonderful experience.

Worst Indian food I’ve ever tasted. Poor hygiene. Filthy Toilets. flies are around the food area. Deserts and chutneys are kept open.

Very disappointed. The pizzas were off. We told the waiter who smelled them and agreed. He took to the manager who then came over and said there was nothing wrong with them. I had to chefs at the table with me who told him there was. Avoid this place. I told him we didn't we ant anything extra but he needed to remove the pizza's. He disagreed. Will not be back.

Went here for dinner last Monday, evening half the curry dishes were missing the chips and rice were cold, the stir fry I had was ok, my husband couldn't eat his chicken curry it was rubbish. Went to get an ice cream, the outside of the fridge was dirty and the inside was no better so we left. That meal with two lemonade cost us £31.18 a complete waste of money we told the lady cashier what we thoughtand she just put her head and said nothing. Don't go here for a meal!!

Me and my partner went to the slice root as I had been a few years back and enjoyed it. Sadly we were disappointed there was not a very good range of food and neither of us particularly liked any of the curries, where was a few different types of curry but there was no chicken tikka masala or chicken balti. We looked at there website before we went to see what they offered where we saw a large list of food many of which where not available including pizza, wedges, lasagna, macaroni, bbq wings, pakora, garlic bread, garlic mushrooms, etc. There the noodles I had from the live station tasted really nice but the meat was tough. We ordered two nan breads which we waited for too long for we had had two plates already before they arrived but when they did come they where very nice. Overall it was disappointing chicken tikka was lacking flavour and dry. Some of the curry’s where on the bone and just wasn’t what we were expecting. Sadly we won’t be going back again

My last memory of eating here was 3/4 years prior. There was a nice selection to choose from with a choice of curries and fresh noodles made to order.

I’ve come for a family meal the food was really nice the curry’s were nice great flavour.The staff are very welcoming and well mannered thankyou for the lovely food.

The reason I want to leave this review is down to the staff. The waitress who welcomed us, took us to our table and brought us our drinks on arrival was brilliant. So friendly and helpful, we told her it was our first time and she showed us what was available, even taking my partner to the chef to ask him to make a Particular dish. The chef in question was great, made us fresh Naan bread as we watched and rustled up some pancake filled with curried potatoes which was great. He also makes some tasty looking rice pancakes, ask about those.

I will start by saying that I extremely dislike this type of all you can eat buffet type food but this was on a whole other level of awfulness. The nicest thing there was the wine which is the only thing I consumed that wasn’t made there!! The website promises a wide selection of food, I would say there was at best 1/3 of the online menu actually on offer. It was very quiet for 6:30 on a Saturday evening and it’s clearly because of the appalling service and disgusting food. Not only was the food mostly cold (sometimes frozen!!) the ‘meat’ in the curry my sister in law had was more bone than actual meat, the Dahl (the only vegetarian option) was just a watery flavourless liquid with hardly any lentils in it. The only half edible food was the naan bread but again it didn’t have much flavour. My boyfriend who does like all you can eat restaurants only went up once, he’s usually a 3 or 4 plates type of guy! The toilets were foul, I felt physically sick when I saw the state of the toilet and had to line it with loo roll before I could sit down, this was a the end of the meal, if I had seen this at the start I would have walked out. No way of drying hands, no loo roll holders, no sanitary disposal, where are women meant to put tampons/sanitary towels!!???!! Taps and sink area looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, if the areas that customers see are like this then what kind of state is the kitchen and staff areas in!? I have never seen toilets in this state in a restaurant in the UK. Service was non existent, we had to put our plates on one of the many empty tables near us as they were in front of us for so long. Prices are very steep for what you get, never coming here again and do not waste your money coming here

Has great food for the price of entry although some food was cold and wasn't labelled, also they kept taking our food away even when we weren't done eating.

I used to love coming to this restaurant it had great food and service but now the service is bad and some of the food are cold or raw and my brother found a glass In his food told the manager he did not care never again going back there

Had food poisoning from This place staff unfriendly as well as asking anyone of colour who’s under the age of 30 to pay before they eat very discriminatory so I wouldn’t advise anyone around the local area to go as they are not welcome as this has happened on numerous occasions. The place has gone downhill and needs refurbishing fast.

Hemos estado comiendo en Spice Route durante muchos años y aún sigue teniendo una buena relación calidad-precio. Solo hemos comido a la hora del almuerzo y para las 8. 95 no te puedes equivocar Puedes tener entrantes, platos principales y un postre para eso. La comida es de calidad y muy sabrosa. Hoy cuando fuimos, estaba muy ocupado, lo que es una buena señal.

First visit here and probably last, the decor looks as though it has not been touched in ages, making the place look quite grubby, it only has a food hygiene rating of 3, food choice was limited with some food stations low on food or empty, £13.99 a head, not really worth the money, i have been to quite a few buffet restaurants and this was not the best

Brought my parents here when they were down for a visit, we love a good indian buffet having eaten at some great ones in my youth with them, this was an exception. We arrived anticipating somewhere fairly busy on a Sunday but it was dead quiet, seemed to take a long time for our drinks despite us being the only people there bar a couple having dinner across the restaurant to us.

Main positive is the great value for money lunch pricing but was impressed with what appeared to be authentic hand made starters such as samosas. Cheap chips and onion rings to keep the children happy but some bits of quality for the adults.

I inspected the buffet prior to deciding to try it and was not disappointed in what I had to eat. We were in early at 7pm and everything that I had was hot, tasted as expected and there was plenty of it. The freshly cooked nan bread was very good, and although I did not have it myself, the stir fry dishes cooked to order seemed good. A sensible price for the food, in a comfortable enough environment, and near to my hotel. I have certainly had better Indian/Thai food but it was OK. I hesitate to recommend for that reason, only OK!

Llegó aquí con la remota posibilidad de que fuera apto para vegetarianos, ya que los precios para un "todo lo que pueda" eran bastante baratos. ¡Y fue bastante bueno! Algunas buenas opciones en general, y algunas buenas opciones vegetarianas. Buena mezcla de Inidian, China y otros. El servicio fue atento (aunque nuestro servidor no hablaba mucho inglés, pero nos las arreglamos!). No tengo ninguna queja, tenía una comida encantadora.
