Would’ve been easier and cheaper to drive to Stony Stratford to get a takeaway. Probably won’t use Spice of Bruerne again.

This was around 2022 when I was homeless in the dead of winter I was somewhat down on my luck living in a car while pushing an old boat north , it was dam cold when I happened upon this place, it was quite late and they had more or less shut up shop for the night cleaned the kitchen I was really quite hungry I distinctly remember that. So I let myself in the restaurant where the staff were a little surprised to see a disheveled bearded man with a heavy scent of despair about him I was greeted with No no no sir sorry we are closed I just replied ok feeling a bit deflated as in my imagination I had worked up an appetite which was not to be, as I went to walk out one of the chaps said just as I was crossing the threshold going out no no no no sir please wait here for a moment I can help you so I waited, A moment or two later he returns with a couple of tinfoil boxes with a mixed vegetarian curry of some description, rice a plastic fork some napkins poppadoms, nan bread and some dips Saying please accept this, I took it with both hands and bowed to him saying thank you 🙏 , how much do I owe you ? I had enough to pay for a meal in my pocket but He refused to accept any money as it was for him an act of charity This apparently was going to be his supper and he was going without to ensure I had some warm food. Fast forward to 2025 I'm in a better position where I can afford to go and have a meal and in the next week or so and remind the manager/ staff had done for me at that very low point in my life and am so very grateful for the meal the fellow provided me Thank you so much 🙏

The curry was very tasty as usual however it’s very obvious that they have cut back on the sauce which made it all very dry.

Normally have a great curry but not today. Pakora was missing and chicken was really tough in both meals. For nearly £60 for 3 we won’t order again

Second time food has been rubbish! Baghis were soggy. Chicken was really tough and naan bread really doughy. Will not order from them again now

Very disappointed. I ordered lamb dansak madras hot. It was very mild and tasteless, my husband had Pad Thai, again not great. Such a shame as we’ve had a takeaway from here before and I couldn’t fault it.

I was a little cautious about ordering having has a bad experience with my last order, however normal service was resumed this evening. The food was hot on arrival and delicious. Delivery was a little late, but communication was great, and it really didn't matter. Very happy!

My husband’s chicken tikka masala was missing from my order I called the restaurant and got told someone would call me back to give me a refund for the missing item as it would take 45 minutes to get the missing food out to me by which time the rest of the meal would of been cold , that was last night and I still haven’t heard back from the restaurant yet !!

Recently ate here and wishing I didn’t. It was a quiet night in the restaurant with only four tables including ours. It took 45 minutes for the first drinks to come, an hour for the starters and an hour and a half for the mains. It seemed the same for others around us too. What we did notice was the phone ringing non stop for takeaway orders. In my opinion those in the restaurant should be prioritised however it clearly wasn’t the case here. We went looking for the staff to see if our drinks were coming but none were to be seen, they must’ve been in the back. We only ever saw the staff when they eventually brought the drinks/food. When the food did arrive it was genuinely tasteless. The only flavour I got was from a Fanta orange. Never again.

This is not the 1st time the food has been delivered late. It is unacceptable as i ordered for 7pm at 5.40pm. Unfortunately the food is good but as long standing customers we will not be ordering again.

do not order butterfly prawns it's one prawn in a mass of breadcrumbs like 1 prawn 4" of breaded orange mass for £6.95, defo not like Chinese or thai king prawns

Look no further for a great curry. A village location which has a lovely restaurant and also delivery too. Well worth it.

This is the third or fourth time I’ve ordered and it’s usually delicious but tonight’s meal was cold upon arrival and rather tasteless, especially the onion bahjis. Very disappointed for such an expensive meal.

Had far better tikka masala elsewhere and some of the chicken was hard

Wouldn’t go anywhere near this place !! Went to order online, then couldn’t add a korma sauce on its own, so I rung up to place the order and the price went from £35 online to £49 over the phone. I asked what the extra £15 was for, as I thought £15 for a korma sauce was a bit excessive, in which he said must be an online discount and I can confirm there was no discount !! Anyway, couldn’t be bothered to argue as it was 7.50pm. So, it gets to 9pm and we still haven’t received our order. I call up and I’m told it’ll be with you in 10 minutes. 9.25pm, the delivery Finally turns up and not even an apology. Open the £50 order and not even a popadom ! Disgusting service !!!

Had a family dinner at the Spice of Bruerne Restaurant. The food was delicious and service is excellent. Looking for family occasion or just night out with friends, there's none alternative then Spice of Bruerne. @highlyrecommanded.

We were having our meal at Spices of Bruerne. At around 9.30 pm we could see kitchen staff started shutting things down. We weren’t even asked if we wanted to see the desert menu which we waited a long time for before giving up and asking for the bill. At 10.03pm we were finishing drinks before we said our goodbyes when we were told by a member of staff the restaurant was closed and asked us to leave. As they already knew we were preparing to leave, there was no need to ask and I thought this was extremely rude. I couldn’t think of anything worse to spoil what would have been a perfect evening after spending £130. When we left we noticed the sign outside the door saying opening hours were until 11pm so they had decided to close an hour early. In summary good food and beautiful location ruined by poor customer service. None of the staff looked like they wanted to be there. However, credit where credit is due, the young lad who took our orders was very sweet. This restaurant appears to have the potential to do very well if the staff loved it enough to make it successful. I think we will continue with our usual Indian restaurant, despite the extra travel. We know what service we can expect we go there and that we are made welcome.

We ordered and the food arrived within 20mins (we live 5mins away) - so can't fault the service however, that's, sadly, where the compliments end. Chicken Tandoori starter - dry and served with onions that were practically raw rather than sautéed. Mixed Tandoori main - 4 small pieces of flavourless chicken tikka, and 2 of the same of lamb. Same chicken tandoori as starter dry and stringy. The seekh kebab had some flavour but was rubbery in texture. Contained the same almost raw onions. 13.95 too! Chicken Jalfrezi Main - watery and bland. Honestly, a supermarket ready meal is ten times better! Throughly disappointed. Would not recommend at all. The people who rate the food here must never have eaten a proper curry!

This is a great Indian Restaurant and Takeaway. Food is top quality and tasty. Well recommended

Lovely food unfortunately we were seated at a table that was very very small (even though the place was empty for the entire of our meal) the tablecloth was dirty as was the door we were sitting next to with splattered sauce over it. We waited a while for the bill and then asked for it, still not received it after 10mins so went to the desk & the 3 staff were all chatting & we had to ask again. As I say food was great but will not be returning any time soon as was unimpressed.

Food arrived earlier than we expected. Piping hot, and everything tasted delicious. Not my first time eating from here, and won’t be the last. Decent size portions exactly as ordered.

Tried to order a takeaway online to collect through my login at Spice Bruene .A 3rd party contacted me and said was I paying cash, I said I wanted to pay with my card, they said unless it was cash the restaurant would cancel my order. I rang the restaurant to enquire why they wouldn't accept my card when I've been regularly buying takeaways from them and the restaurant hang up the call. On a positive note I decided to try Calcutta's in Stony Stratford and the food and service was brilliant.

I asked for vegetables to be added with the paneer dish which they didn’t do, i’ve called up in the past and they said if i ask in notes they would add the vegetables and i’ve done it many times, it ruined the meal. I also didn’t think the chicken was nice at all and the sauce which i got didn’t taste how i usually have it from here. overall £40 out the window.

It was a Monday evening, sunny and warm.. we took the opportunity to sit outside, which is fantastic for once in the uk. The service was quick, polite and well informed. Good pickle tray and drinkable wine. The food was superb, the question asked was.. how are the tastes? Not is everything alright. A good evening

We went last evening for the 1st time. We will most definitely return. I had the best biriani I've ever had! We all had different meals and every one was fantastic. Service was excellent. Can most highly recommend 5⭐

Absolutely amazing food, great interior and super friendly staff. A brilliant place to stop if you’re mooring up on a canal boat at Stoke Bruerne too (and some great pubs next door for a cheeky pint if you’re waiting for a take out).

What a little gem in a great position right next to the canal There was 5 of us for dinner and everyone thought the food was amazing 🤩 None of the dishes looked the same which is something I have found in other Indian restaurants I had the chicken Naga which was absolutely delicious. Spicy but not overpowering All my friends said the chicken in their dishes was exceptional, not to dry and cooked beautifully The service was great as well as the team looked after us and we’re all a hard working and friendly team We can’t wait to return and I highly recommend this place 👌

We used to get salad and sauce with chicken tikka. Last order we only received a starter portion not a main, however paid for the main. 4 years on, time to look elsewhere

What an absolute find! We moored just up the way and really fancied an Indian meal. The entire evening was absolutely wonderful, great staff and service and the food was sublime, great taste and just the right amount of spices. It was so good that we went back the night after to the same excellent food and service. We found the price to be very reasonable for our meals and wine. We will be travelling back this way in a couple of months and will certainly be returning.

I was served RAW chicken. I will never be going back, this crap gave me the runs. Please never order chicken from this place, also no discount was given but instead gave me a new meal that was smaller than the first one but luckily it was cooked but didn't eat it as i was felt sick. #SORTITOUT

Historically the Spice of Bruerne has been a bit variable in both service and food but I have to say so far in 2024 it has been very good. We have prev ate in the restaurant but the last few times have had a delivery and it's been very good. They also are one of the few places that deliver to Hanslope which is about 6 miles away and they do not charge extra for this. On-line ordering is v slick plus there is a matching app too. Spend over £20 ordering online and you get 10% off - which I end up giving to the driver as a tip!

This place is always very expensive for what you get. What you order is simply what you get & nothing more whereas some other places will add in a few extra poppadoms with sauces and salad for free. I paid £4.50 for a small portion of garlic rice.

Ordered from here to make a change from my usual. Food was 40 mins late as I pre ordered. Popadoms has a weird chemical taste. Aloo Ghobi was full of cauliflower stacks rather than the head. Chicken was tough in the jalfrezi. Wouldn’t order from here again!!!

Excellent food, delivered earlier than expected

Food mostly tasted great, however the King Prawn Bhuna was crushed at the bottom of the bag and had spilt. Also only had 5 chunks of chicken in my Butter Chicken, and the dish was only half full. The house special naan bread didn't really taste as described; there were a few tiny scraps of tikka inside it. It wasn't the taste explosion I'd imagined from the description. Crab starter was very tasty, but again not much crab in it. Keema rice was nice. Disappointing portion sizes compared to other restaurants.

All good here portions could be a little more generous..as we're in the small side but other than that service, and taste all good

Beautiful food and plenty of it.

Food was delivered in original time window given, but an hour after it said the driver left. Food was soggy and cold when it arrived, and every item required either re-cooking or microwaving to make them hot and/or crisp again. Very disappointing from a usually good restaurant

We had hired a narrowboat and were looking at Google Maps, to find somewhere to eat. We gave Spice of Bruerne a try and were not disappointed. We all agreed it was one of the best meals we had every had. As an additional bonus it was a sensible price as well.

Oh my word ! I tried their new dish, the Zaytoun ( not sure of spelling ) I had it as a slightly hotter madras and it was delicious . I’ve been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The staff are so friendly and polite too.
