Meal with friends was lovely food excellent service very attentive and a nice vibe to a super restaurant

Come here tonight with a few friends - couldn't recommend the place enough. Food was top notch and the service was extremely personable.

Can’t rate atmosphere as we had a takeaway. The food arrived tepid and almost an hour later too. When it arrived, my family member found an unknown specimen in their rice. Unsure as to what it is but the picture will show. It could be edible, but we didn’t want to risk it. It’s a shame, I’ve heard good things about this place. EDIT: We also ordered two pieces of naan bread, which didn’t arrive at all.

Had a delightful meal here tonight (Mar 2024). My starter, sweet ‘n’ spicy chilli chicken was sublime. Never had anything like it before. Crisp batter & moist chicken, gorgeous flavour, topped with sesame seeds. Beautiful garlic naan, rice & chicken tikka masala. Met with owner who was lovely. It’s changed hands & menu has some real gems plus traditional dishes. Thoroughly recommend them & thanks to the lovely staff who were so attentive. 5 stars all round.

We've always had positive experiences when dining here. The food is top quality, all cooked really fresh. The staff are lovely and very attentive. The restaurant is quieter in the week but has a lovely, bustling feel on the weekend. The prices reflect the quality of the food.

On the whole this place is fairly good. The food although very tasty was only warm when served and the waiters had an annoying habit of hovering around the tables giving the impression that you should hurry up.

Had delivery tonight. Half an hour late but worth the wait. We are lightweights with curries but they do the best lamb and chicken kormas ever! And their keema rice is deeeelicious!

Great resturant, with a beautifully varied menu, whether you're eating in or taking away. Staff are always courteous and helpful. When ordering takeaway, there timing predictions are pretty accurate. The food is good quality and reasonable value for money. There are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. All in all a great place to get food.

A very welcoming restaurant which manages to feel warmly traditional with a splash of modern at the same time. The food was some of the nicest Indian cuisine I have ever tasted. The Paneer Tikka, Butter Chicken and Saag Bhaji I had was sublime, it was so tasty. My wife also loved everything she ordered. The portions were very generous, you won't be going home hungry from here let me tell you. The staff were all polite and very good at spotting when you needed assistance without them being intrusive. Looking at past reviews on Tripadvisor it's clear to me that the poorer reviews were from a time when this restaurant was under different management, because personally I could not fault any aspect of our visit and would recommend this place to anyone in the Cardiff area.

I had about twelve guests over at mine and ordered from Spice Island. Spice Island is one of my local restaurant who has recently improved. I ordered around twelve main dish and six starter dish, all food was absolutely mouth watering, nice portion, piping hot and really tasty, Every single guest was praising the food and said they have tasted the delicious food for the time compared to other places they have ordered from before. There was a slight delay for the delivery but overall a good experience. Keep it up!!

Visited here on Monday night with the fiancé for a spontaneous date night without our toddler! we normally have a spice island takeaway but treated ourselves to a sit down meal! The most welcoming staff and great service throughout the whole meal! Spice island always do the best poppadoms and chutneys! can’t find a single Indian that does better! Starters were amazinggg! I’d come everyday just for the Salmon tandoori!! My main was just as delicious too! Thankyou for a great evening and i look forward to sitting in again soon! even though the lamb tikka masala will forever be my favourite takeaway..ever! :)

I absolutely love this Indian restaurant. For dine in or takeaway. We don’t live anywhere near here anymore but when you find such a gem, you are willing to travel. The food is wonderful. It always seems so fresh, that so much care has been taken to prepare the finesse ingredients. In these hard times with soaring prices they have not cut back at all on their quality. We usually choose chicken dishes and the meat is always thoroughly cooked to perfection and tender. The poppadoms are always fresh and the sauces very generous. The staff are always so kind and helpful, even for the fussiest eaters. I can highly recommend this restaurant. I know that there are many Indian restaurants around and to find one that you love and trust is not an easy task. This one will fulfil all your requirements. We are quite fussy. Give it a try. It’s excellent.

Tried a different Indian restaurant with some mates. It was great a lovely open space with great customer care. The food was fab, between us we had a mix of vegi and meat and fish. The salmon was perfectly cooked served on a s skillet, and flavoured well with great balance, the vegi dishes lived up to expectation with the traditional paneer and full of flavour, I had the biryani special , packed with mixed meat and huge prawns a lovely sweet curry sauce and an omelette on top. Flavours worked well together, the meat and prawns cooked great. We had the usual poppadoms to start and ice-cream and a coffee liqueur to finish , lush. Would deff go again, thank you to the lovely staff for a lovely mid week meal. Prices were average for good quality food 🍜🍨☕

Been coming here for sit downs and takeaway for years. Called in last night for takeaway. Some old favourites removed from new menu,so we went for dishes unkown to us. So glad we did. Having had a conversation with a waiter I’ve become friendly with I have apparently been using this restaurant for 18 years mainly for takeaways. I have always enjoyed their food and rarely have any issues. Their menu is varied with some superb dishes on it. Probably need to book for a Friday or Saturday.

Always pop in here daytime lunch good selection staff are friendly good price worth a visit.will be back. As I normally do and I’m sure you will too if you’re in the area

A lovely and small Indian restaurant in Rumney. The staff was very pleasant and the service was quick. The menu is quite big with a solid selection of vegetarian dishes as well. The food was delicious and the portions were big. I've been to Spice Island a few times now and I shall come back in the future.

I took my wife to Spice Island for Valentines Day diner as it is close enough to walk which meant we could have a few glasses of wine. As always the service was impeccable and the food an wine were first rate. They even went so far as to make sure the ladies left with a single red rose (nice touch). In my opinion, the Spice Island is the best Indian restaurant in Cardiff.

We went here for a surprise for my birthday, it was a Monday night so not many in there but a few coming and going. We'd heard good reports and we weren't disappointed. I chose their recommended wine which was really good and reasonably priced for a restaurant at £14.95. We had starters which were both lovely and in fact would have been fine as there was lots of it for the decent price. The curries were amazing, Chicken Madras and Lamb Jalfrezi, the Chicken was tender but the lamb was melt in your mouth, and the chillis extra hot! I was full so they gladly put mine in containers to take home for the next day, dessert was a White Chocolate bomb which finished the meal off lovely. The staff were pleasant and the bill was around £60 for two starters, two mains with sides, two deserts, two bottles of beer and a bottle of wine

I used to love this place and it’s food. I don’t know what’s happening lately but wheres the flavour I always give it another chance as it’s hit and miss because when the food it’s tasty it’s lovely but I think I won’t be giving it a try again.

I'm single and I come from London. People said it's a bit quite. So what, perfect place to enjoy wine and soul soothing background music and it was quite and perfect :)) I took king prawn starter but it was a lobster 🤣 loved the taste and the soul tree wine & background music combination was perfect. I took chicken curry and paratha for main. Loved it too. Staffing could improve a little but the place and food outweighed everything else. Overall very nice calm and totally authentic feeling. Would go again when I'm in Cardiff.

Yo estaba haciendo una regular alrededor de £50 al mes. La última vez pedí un tome distancia, cuando llegué me dijeron que no estaba listo. Esperé bastante tiempo después alguien vino y me dijo que estaba volviendo el orden equivocado le dieron. Me dio otra maleta, y tomó la bolsa que había sido la casa con ella a la cocina. Yo le pregunté qué era y describió el pedido. A continuación el camarero apareció milagrosamente con mi orden. Le dije que no podía tomar, ya que había sido inaugurado en la casa de alguien vigilara. Un acalorado debate asegurado donde personal intentó decirme era un orden completamente fresca. Al final, el gerente/propietario, tan bueno como el dinero en lo tiró y me dejó. Me mató, yo siempre había disfrutado de la comida y ésta fue la normal. Mi encargo era la pena nada si no me pudieron dar una orden tibia que había sido inaugurado por personas al azar en una casa al azar. Pedimos una llevar curry, sólo tienen a menudo como difícil encontrar un buen 1 y fue recomendado por un amigo para probar aquí y sólo estar cerca también decidimos darle una oportunidad. Excelente y muy sabroso, grandes porciones, la pechuga de pollo y no basura. Mucho sabor. El personal era muy cortés y hasta tenía una oferta de descuento para pasar una cierta cantidad. last night I ordered a delivery from this restaurant and as my address has no house number just a house name I was expecting problems with the driver possibly not bein able to find me as is usually the case with deliveries,but it arrived ahead of time due the impressive local knowledge that the driver had and found my house with no problems which is a first.definately recommend.

Went with family for a meal. The restaurant was quite busy however we were served our drinks and starters quite quickly which were all very nice. Waited a while for the mains but the foods was lovely. I had Massala very tasty and everybody enjoyed the food. Overall very pleased would eat there again.

Spice Island is a local restaurant I frequently visit, due to it serving decent food and being local. However, last night I ordered a delivery at 6:20pm, I was told it would be an hour and twenty minutes. It arrived at 9pm.No phone call, no apology just 2.5hrs wait. Had I known, I would have gone elsewhere. I won't order a takeaway from Spice Island again. Food is decent though, prices moderate. Service in restaurant, average.I might eat in or pick-up in the future, I just dislike poor service and this has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I ordered here after hearing great reviews but was very disappointed. I ordered a garlic chicken rice which after one mouthful I decided not to put any on my plate as it tasted discusting and very dried up. The nann bread wasn't great not much filling inside. Chips very pale and dry once again. Lastly the chicken buhna: chicken was nice but the sauce had way too many onions in and to be honest didn't taste like curry, it reminded me more of a cheap caserole mix. Overall the meal tasted like it had been chucked together by someone who didn't know what a buhna is supposed to taste like, and re heated from the previous night in my opinion. After a very long day in work we were very dissapointed that we couldn't even eat any of this food. Personally we won't be ordering from this restaurant again.

I ordered a takeaway and it was delivered within 25 mins which was great,the only problem was that I was missing 1 naan bread. I rang the restaurant who said I could have the price deducted from my next order. The only problem is that I will not be eating here again for the following reasons. The Chicken Tikka Massala was very sweet with no spice at all.it's seems that the food is catered for the English palette but most people actually want their curries spicy and those that don't can order a mild curry.The chicken curry was tasty but again something was lacking and the naans were a little dry.All in all I was disappointed as Spice Island definitely lacks spice.

Really great food and service. My dad comes down to visit and we have to go every time as he loves the fish curry!! I have to be honest, the restaurant is great. Never had a bad meal, midweek specials are excellent value. My only criticism=sm has been the take away isn't as good as it could be. But restaurant food is 10/10!

Well presented, clean restaurant with attentive staff. We have been eating here since they first opened, which must be about 15/16 years ago. I have to say we have never had a bad meal here and we have truly had some very memorable ones as well. You can't go wrong with the traditional Chicken Tikka Masala with a bottle of Tiger beer. Are there better Indian's in Cardiff? I'm not so sure.
