Chai Street - Wellfield Road in Cardiff

Chai Street does not know how to make Chai. It was more of a cup of milk rather than tea. Avoid “chai” in this shop.Dissappointed!

Food was nice but little expensive. They take 10% service charge extra for dine in. That was so disappointing.

Food wise it wasn't the typical Indian food I was expecting, more like street food, no familiar dishes, so it was just pick at random. It was delicious! I had the chicken tikka budda bowl, so different, so lovely! My daughters had curry bowls, I had to taste test of course! Both stunning, sause really tasty, chicken melted in the mouth. Service was great, really lovely staff. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Cardiff.

The atmosphere is electrifying, and service is great . I ordered the food and got my food in 5 minutes. Their service is superfast. We ordered Chilly Paneer, Chole Bhature, Garlic nan and Paneer makhani. I guess the taste could be enhanced a bit and not a 5 star rating

Terrible Thali. The daal and potato baaji were bland , the chicken dishes were under cooked, the samosa was stale. Biryani was ok.

The waitress helped us with the menu as we weren't sure what to get - the lamb korma we got was finger licking good!

We ordered samosa Ragda chat , palak saag Panner , chicken chettinad and naan. Except for palak saag Panner the remaining food is good ,tasted like back home ,but the naans are a bit expensive ,

Being pure vegetarian I ordered Veg biriyani but they served chicken biryani.so plz be careful if anyone is vegetarian and going to this restaurant.

Food - Amazing Ambience - Amazing Service - Amazing What else can one expect from a Desi Restaurant. Its a must if you visit Cardiff. Walking distance from Railway Station makes it a requisite. 👌

Metal Plates used for dishes are unbalanced since its base is not firm hence difficult to keep plates stable. Good service & friendly ambience.

Authentic and delicious food. Casual vibe and attentive staff. Real food absolutely worth the price. 3/5 for atmosphere as there was a loud, swearing and angry group of men, at some point one of them slapped another in the face almost starting a fight, and no staff member challenged the behaviour. Good for a casual grab, but not so much for romantic or occasional treat.

We went to this restaurant as an year ago somebody gave good reviews of it. However, the food was terrible. We were in a group and ordered at least 10 items starting from starter to desserts. None of them was good. Either the taste was terrible, or in best case below average. Not more than that. Not writing about all the dishes individually. But review is nearly same for all. Pani puri- Just plain boiled and smashed potato masala without even salt. Veg Thali- No salt or spices in the curries. Carrot halwa with icecream- Grated Carrot with mixed sugar that was it in the halwa.

I have visited Cardiff and found this restaurant. It delicious asian Food and dal tarka was best. Service is great their people very frdly Its verry good thanks to giving nice food.

Had a lovely experience. Nice ambience. Ordered thali which I think is their speciality, did not disappoint me but thalis I had at some of the other places included sweets like a piece of gulab jamin or barfi or something which was missing, did not include raita. Other than that lovely food had it mango lassi good combo. Steep but there is a charge for the nice ambience I suppose. The staff was super friendly. Thank you so much for having us

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in Cardiff, food is stunning and there’s so much choice. Staff are always very welcoming and friendly, and the decor is unique and adds a great ambience. Not a bad word to say!

The food was delicious, especially the lamb which was beautifully cooked. The sauces with popadoms were delicious too but too small a portion of lime pickle :) we were put on a table of two crammed in by the side of the bar, it felt a bit like we were sat in a corridor. The atmosphere was great apart from that and drinks were delicious.

Really delicious food. Had the fish thali which was interesting, tasty and a decent portion. Service was quite ‘hands off’ so we had to get the attention of staff each time we wanted something. This was in spite of it being very quiet.

Went for the small plates, good food.

We were down for the weekend from north wales and decided we wanted an Indian. We booked online to make sure we had a table as it was rugby weekend. Anyway we turned up 30mins early hoping they could fit us in earlier and they couldn’t be more helpful. All the staff were nice and cheerful. . Including the chefs. The food was very tasty and served piping hot. We will definitely be back next time we visit. 10/10

Love this spot - I go every time I am in Cardiff…

Popped in for lunch and had chicken kati roll and fries. Kati roll was smaller than I expected but had lovely flavour, fries had zero seasoning on them. If you are hungry don’t order this.

Bad customer service from the waiter with the hair bun. He made us wait for 15-20 mins while prioritising other customers in the restaurant and also kept ignoring us. Also the door was open by some other customer but he asked me specifically to close the door (even thou that's not my responsibility). Anyways delicious food but not happy with the way we were treated.

The gentleman at the counter did not listen to what I was trying to order. Then got to order what I wanted. Then the dish came out to be super spicy. I actually do well with spicy food. But the chicken curry was a lot spicier than the usual that I have in there several times!

Great food, loved veg samosa chaat and veg thali. Service was great, no issues with mixing dishes and sharing. Much better quality than popular indian chain. Would recommend. Not oil heavy. Good for vegetarians.

Very nice take away today. I wasn't too sure about the bowls serving, it was slightly smaller than a normal curry but good size. Had chicken jalfrezi which was very good and had a nice kick to it. Rice, bread was good and Bombay potatoes were good if slightly dry. The Shish kabab starter was very nicely presented. Overall very good with helpful staff. Around £28 with a pint.

One of the best restaurants in Cardiff , good location, simple ambience and variety of cuisine. A bit crowded but it's worth the visit.

Over all good was food , service a little not up to the mark . We ordered our food and drinks together , food came in first , drinks did not arrive even till our food was fininshed , We ordered additional Chole Bhature meanwhile ... Till the time it arrived we were full ... so we asked to make it a take away ... got a response "Phele bolna tha na" (You should have asked it before) ... Seems a bit rude , They finally packed the food . I am still giving it 4 stars (Benifit of doubt) as it was busy at that time ......

It was ok. But not authentic Indian. It’s for British people, without Indian spices.

Found this while looking for Indian restaurant after 3 days of travel. Small but very nicely done with bright ambience and nice music. Ordered veg and chicken thali along with butter chicken with rice from kids menu. The Currys were quite suffi client and we had to order extra Naans. The thali came with one naan and little rice which does not match with quantity of Currys. The taste was quite good and quite. Good options to try out. Will try to visit again for more... Note: we entered near closing time and somehow convinced at reception to let us have dinner ...we were last to leave

We really like it here, the food is consistently very tasty without relying on loads of oil as many Indian restaurants do! Last night following some crispy pappadums and pickles (so many restaurants fall at the first hurdle by serving stale or soggy pappadums) I had the spinach and chicken curry and my wife, the chicken coconut pot and we shared a rice and naan. All washed down with a half decent bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. It was so delicious and felt relatively healthy!

The food is good but the service is horrendous. Specially the manager who was rude and unwelcoming. Frankly wanted to put minus star on Service.

Fabulous food. Quite different from your local "curry house" An early sitting so not many people there hence the 4 stars. Would expect it to be hectic when full. Go on, treat yourself to some spectacular food. Highly recommended. Going back very soon.

Amazing street food. Good value

A group of us came in and had a really lovely time. The food was delicious - we got the grills and a selection of curries and sundries to share. The railway lamb curry was delicious. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. We would definitely come back.

Came here last night, the service was good and pretty quick, but unfortunately the food just wasn’t that great. The curry was nice and the chicken was well-cooked but the rice was quite watery and there were literal pools of water on my plate. I also went to the restroom while I was here and it was quite dirty! The hand dryer wasn’t working, the toilet roll had been left on the side on a piece of carpet that looked like a beer mat, the toilet itself was stained. We had reserved a table ahead of time but the restaurant was accepting walk-ins and it wasn’t too busy. However, overall, I’d probably recommend somewhere else over this place.

Great date night meal out! Although there were some disappointing service. Food was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. We have been accommodated a table on a chance walk-in attempt (thank you!), the very salty margarita served to us was also also changed immediately, so that’s a plus! The only issue we had is that there was a lack of communication towards the end when we finished our food. We were just handed the bill at the table, no questions whatsoever, not even the courtesy to ask us us if we wanted any desert! 😅 Gutted as on most days, we’d indulge. We felt like we were passively aggressively shoo’ed away. We thought, it would have been nice if we were told that the tables were needed, and just communicated that better as we would happily comply. I thought that needs some work. Also maybe toning down the music a little bit would be nice too, so we’re not shouting at each other. Overall, had a nice time and enjoyed the food. Staff were generally polite and friendly. Normally, I’d leave writing a review, but i care about the curry here!

Popped in here for a quick lunch. Seems to be a popular place as it was busy the whole time we were there. The food from the lunch menu was delicious and reasonably priced. Kati Roll, chicken biriani [tons of chicken it],and 2 drinks came to about £30 Decor just right for the establishment .

The chole bhature and non Veg thali were both amazing. Dessert was very nice too. Service was friendly and quick. The ambience while pleasant, got a bit overstimulating. Highly recommended. :))))
