We had food here yesterday for dinner and was ok ok not so great but service was so awful and terrible. The servers over here was so unprofessional and lack of knowledge

What an amazing find in the heart of Cardiff city centre. It was surprisingly quiet on a busy match day (probably because it looked closed) but once inside the food was tasty, the staff were friendly and I'll definitely be returning!

First visit to this venue and very pleased with the food, portions, service and drinks. Despite a very busy open kitchen our enjoyment of the meal was as expected and I felt very much fed and watered afterwards. Recommend.

Everything here is perfect. Quick service, authentic atmosphere and amazing food. I had the chai street thali that includes 3 curries, rice, naan, dips, poppadoms. The lamb curry was my favorite of the three, the meat melts in your mouth, I could have eaten more despite being so full by the end of our meal!

Delicious food, really enjoyed it. I loved the thali, it was enough for 2 people. Service was prompt and very responsive staff. Great experience!

The cocktails and mocktails are good.. The chicken thali are okay for almost 2 people if you are not heavy eaters. The veg thali is good as well.... The samosa chat feedback is good for others in the group as well although I have not tried it.. The masala chai is okish as we have had better chais elsewhere. The gulab jamun is hot and good - we didn't took the ice cream on top as we have strictly veg person with us.. The lamb biriyani is good as well although had better biriyani elsewhere in UK.

A hidden gem with fresh, delicious dishes and a welcoming ambiance. The friendly staff made the evening even better.

Outstanding food, Service and Atmosphere. I had desi brunch Masala Dosa the sambar was delicious that I ever tasted alot with Dosa. Scrambled eggs with Paneer and Aloo paratha was full of desi flavors. Must try Bhatura that took me back to Punjabi style chola bhatura.I am a coffee person to when with their fresh fruity Virgin Mojito which was good as well with fresh fruits chunk and my husband enjoyed the Masala tea. Guys 100% recommend with Halal options.

The server gave excellent advice. For instance, if your order is too spicy, mix in some of the cucumber and mint yogurt sauce in order to cool the spice of the dish!

Ordered the chai street platter, darjeeling momo, and chicken 65 today through uber. The momos and chicken 65 were tasty. But i am extremely disappointed in the platter. It was supposed to have lamb chops, seekh kebab, Tiger prawn, chicken tikka. But all we got was chicken!! And those chicken taster very bad. It seemed like the cut is different but the sauce is same for all the kebab. The dal makhani and the naan was bad as well. Would never recommend and never order again. Guess what? This dish cost me £19.90 which is a total rip off. Please be honest while selling something!!

I had a vegan platter, which consisted of a large tray of 6 different small bowls of various curries, it came with rice, nan bread Pops and pickles. Quite simply the best curry I have ever had.

Only here for the evening for a gig and stumbled on this place I had a Chai Street thali, the best Thali I've had since I had a wedding thali in Tamil Nadu. Husband had a kerala fish curry and said it was delicious. We both had a refreshing mocktail too. I can't recommend enough. Great value, generous portions, fantastic friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. Just perfect. 5 out of 5 from me!

We had a fantastic time at Chai Street, Cardiff. We were a large group and all were accommodated, even a late arrival but we still all ate together. Amazing food, great atmosphere and fantastic service. Every single person said they loved their food and all would go back. Thanks for helping my daughter have a great 18th birthday

Ordered a paneer curry as a takeaway, sadly got a chicken curry. Have been trying to call the restaurant for the last 45 minutes but the user is always busy - I’ve had more luck getting through to the GP! I’m vegetarian, so sadly looks like I’m going hungry tonight.

Chai Street is in the Cardiff city centre and is the best place to have tasty Indian food. I tried veggie thaali, chole bhature, chai, and loaded naan. Recommended if you are missing Indian spices and taste. Staff is very accommodating and friendly.

Lovely atmosphere, great food I had the chicken biryani which I highly recommended. Nice cocktails too!

I've been to some of the more pretentious and popular cocktail places in Cardiff (like The Canary and The Botanist), and yet the cocktails here are better. You wouldn't expect an indian restaurant to have such good cocktails at such reasonable prices. The staff are always very friendly. As soon as they see me and my girlfriend walk through, they already start making her favourite Raspberry Daiquiri. They often have the 2 for 1 promotion as well which is super value. You pay for a good cocktail, not for the privilege of being in some posh place. We've been regulars for a while and we will keep coming as long as we live in this city.

They restaurant serves a real Indian food. The butter chicken was so good. The service and the atmosphere were both excellent. All staff members were very friendly and they made sure that all were OK with us. I really recommend the place and will definitely go back when I am back in Cardiff.

Went as a large group as part of a work gathering. Poppadoms were brought to the table without anyone asking. No-one ordered these, so they're complimentary, right? That's a normal thing. No. Apparently they were an extra £20. Our organiser was left with a random extra expense to handle, as none of us knew to organise our share. Completely unacceptable. Being blindsided by such an expense is not an acceptable way to conduct a business. The food was good, but the kingfisher beer was £7.50, crazy price. I will never be back.

The thali set that was the bomb.com so good and well seasoned and the portion was huge so it’s highly recommended.The butter chicken masala was sweet so it was disappointing because I though authentic and would lots of masala but the curry was sweet instead.The momo was another one we weee disappointing, myself being a nepali the meat inside was not marinated properly.Other than the momo and the butter chicken masala which was a letdown.The other food was 10/10 in my opinion.

Perfect spot right across from Cardiff Castle! Super convenient if you’re exploring the area. They offer a nice selection of Indian street food, and the masala chai is a must-try. Great place for a quick stop to recharge with some tasty bites and a warm drink!

The amount of rice served in the fish thali is disappointing. Menu mentioned crispy calamari in it and I have got battered prawns.

Their mango lassi is the best I’ve tasted so far. The menu is extensive offering lots of vegan and non vegan options. Really friendly and helpful staff. Awesome prices too, there’s something for everybody there.

A wonderful place, food is excellent, staff are lovely and the street food vibe is just right. We find this place on our first night in Cardiff and enjoyed our meal so much that we went back for our second evening so we could try something else. I wish we lived closer so we could come back again!

A taste of home far from India is a welcome relief from the otherwise unique taste of the UK. Those accustomed to a more indian palate will appreciate this place. If you're in Cardiff and want to experience good authentic Indian cuisine and not just the starrdardized stuff make sure to visit this restaurant. Service was exceptionally fast, the staff were beyond courteous. And most importantly you realise this is a small piece of India in the heart of Cardiff. Ample parking in adjacent parking tower and a minutes walk to the entrance and since most of the shopping zones are around this centre it is a hard place to miss.

Ordered from “Mint and Mustard Cardiff Highstreet” turns out it’s Chai Street and they have copied the Mint and Mustard menu but don’t serve anything from that menu, we got sent 2 random curries that weren’t even close to what we ordered. When I rang and ask what had gone wrong I got told it’s basically the same and if I wanted it from Mint and Mustard I should have ordered from the one in Penarth. Complete false advertising and the food we received wasn’t even nice.

i was so so anxious to go here since it was an hour before they close and i eat quite slowly, also i’m sensitive to noise so i was worried about it being too loud as well, but it turned out to all be totally okay, the staff were so kind to everyone and checked in on how everything was tasting, they helped me package my leftovers since i didn’t finish everything, and everything tasted SO good, sometimes Indian food places can feel very gentrified but you could tell that this place would have excellent food and good vibes just from entering, everything was a 10/10 and eased my anxiety, amazing

Absolutely amazing authentic Indian food! My mouth is on fire but it tastes so so good. The service was amazing and everyone is very friendly! Drinks are also really good, definitely recommend the mango & coconut mock tail.

I've been visiting Chai Street on High Street for many years and the food is always excellent. Today I went for the Kerala Fish Curry and Saffron Pilau Rice. The Fish Curry has to be the best in Cardiff! It's so tasty. The Owner is great and always makes me laugh. All the other staff are spot on as well.

We just had a lunch … the food was horrible taste and no quality and value for money charged …very poor experience…. Not again

Chai street is my go to place in Cardiff and is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in my opinion. I discovered this place when I tried their vadapav years ago. They don’t do it anymore but I think it had a very authentic taste to it, I wish they bring it back. Not a big fan of the starters here (some are ok but there’s definitely some room for improvement) but the main courses here are delicious!

The samosa ragda chaat, butter chicken sliders and biryani lamb were perfect. This absolutely goes to the top of my Indian restaurants! Don’t forget to get the popadums as the mint chutney is on another level.

We had a chat and chai. A great combo for a perfect evening. The portion is small and not filling. The menu says we need to order 2 or 3 portions. The ambiance which they created goes very well with the name of the place. Reminds of India in every inch of the restaurant. The board with writings is very interesting to read. Can visit when you are in cardiff.

I like the location, and plenty of outdoor tables so you can enjoy sunshine! The drinks quality was average, we didn’t try any food here so I can’t comment on that. The service was alright.

Visiting Cardiff for a couple of days and our son and girl girlfriend took us to Chai street. It’s a long narrow restaurant, but don’t be fooled by its appearance outside ( it’s a small shop front), the food was superb. The service was great and the staff were very professional and helpful. Highly recommend visiting Chai Street Cardiff. A variety of meals were had, Grandma’s curry and the naan breads were exceptional 😎🇬🇧👍

Visiting Cardiff for the weekend and we were glad that one of our meals was here. Genuinely one of the best Indian meals I've had. If I could give it more stars I would. Flavours were amazing!

This is a really great Indian Restaurant the place is small but they manage to make lots of tables. The service is really good and the cocktail are fab really nice. Grandma's curry is the best around.... love it here

Good one for simple Indian cuisine. We ordered chilli paneer and dahi chaat bomb as starters. They were really tasty. For mains we got Amritsari chana, paneer butter masala and tarka dal with tandoor roti. Honestly, tarka dal was the best amongst those 3. My family and I personally didn’t like the chana taste. But it was alright. Staff was very polite and professional. I really liked the interior. They did take a long time to get the order but it was busy so can’t really complain on that. Amazing view, nice atmosphere and good food.

This place is wow… Absolutely delicious food, visiting for the very first time.. Ambience is Amazing, flawless for Indians or any, customer service is Exceptional, the two boys were super friendly & so welcoming, food is an emotion .. Happy tummy, can’t wait to visit again!

Disappointed with Menu Availability at Restaurant We were a group of four families visiting the restaurant, but unfortunately, we were unable to order the food items we wanted from the menu. The staff informed us that these dishes weren't available. This experience was frustrating, especially considering we had a larger group. It might be helpful for the restaurant to: Remove unavailable items from the menu: This would prevent confusion and disappointment for customers. Offer a separate "limited availability" menu: This could highlight dishes that may not always be in stock. By implementing these suggestions, the restaurant could ensure a smoother dining experience for all guests.

Very very bad experience. The nan comes before the curry and waited me for 5 minutes. And the staff were very rude.

Had a delivery for Paneer Butter Masala together wirh chicken curry and kerala prawn. While the meat dishes were of normal proportions, the paneer masala was exactly 4 pieces of paneer in a small box for £9.90 !!! Why the difference? Food was tasty though but cant understand why this small a quantity for the vegetarian dish

Nice food, good menu, service quite slow/poor. Waiting 20 mins to order to be told items not on menu, then perhaps 15 min wait for drinks. Good spot for a beer and Indian street food and snacks. Perhaps it was just a busy time when we visited! They also put a 10% service charge for quite poor service, without notifying me, which is quite cheeky.

Delicious curry and good service. Not too spicy, just the right amount. Nice and cozy restaurant as well. Would definitely recommend as they have lots of veggie options. Very good lunch deal too, decent sized curry and rice for 7.50£

Chai Street does not know how to make Chai. It was more of a cup of milk rather than tea. Avoid “chai” in this shop.Dissappointed!

Food wise it wasn't the typical Indian food I was expecting, more like street food, no familiar dishes, so it was just pick at random. It was delicious! I had the chicken tikka budda bowl, so different, so lovely! My daughters had curry bowls, I had to taste test of course! Both stunning, sause really tasty, chicken melted in the mouth. Service was great, really lovely staff. Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Cardiff.

The atmosphere is electrifying, and service is great . I ordered the food and got my food in 5 minutes. Their service is superfast. We ordered Chilly Paneer, Chole Bhature, Garlic nan and Paneer makhani. I guess the taste could be enhanced a bit and not a 5 star rating

Terrible Thali. The daal and potato baaji were bland , the chicken dishes were under cooked, the samosa was stale. Biryani was ok.

Food - Amazing Ambience - Amazing Service - Amazing What else can one expect from a Desi Restaurant. Its a must if you visit Cardiff. Walking distance from Railway Station makes it a requisite. 👌
