Had a family meal here on Saturday afternoon, food was delicious and staff were excellent, highly recommended

What an experience, the food was 10 out of 10 and the service was 10 out of 10! Wow, I can’t wait to come back to Cardiff now!

Had a surprisingly exciting experience on an early dinner here yesterday. The service was fantastic and the room nicely laid out. But the food was incredible. I had a three way mushroom starter - part truffle ball, part stir fry, part soup. Ingenious mix I would never have imagined. The chefs here are far above the average curry house. As are the staff. Great wines and beers too. I tried the elderflower IPA, which off set the spices of my veggie plater perfectly. A really imaginative meal, perfectly cooked and presented and at a modest price. Chuffed.

The atmosphere and food were great. Staff were a little eager taking away dishes and glasses. It is just my view, but you would have a similarly good meal at Mowgli's, but for less cost. Nothing bad to say really, all very good, but there are more reasonable alternatives without compromising on the flavour / quality of the food .

Indian has always been the bottom of my list when it comes to eating out. This place has completely changed that for me! Every dish was made beautifully, not greasy or enormous portions. I left feeling pleasantly full and not in uncomfortable pain like my past experiences. I'll definitely be coming back!

A nice ambiance and venue, quite busy but not overly noisy or intrusive. Service efficient. Poppadums arrived in a basket of small triangular pieces (not greasy), three deliciously different dips - an amazing chutney, a mint one and a lemony one. Starter of soft shell crab with a crab cake was interesting - crispy, delicate tasting meat and lightly spiced. Main of lamb rogan Josh was disappointing. The 5-6 chunks of lamb were good quality (not a generous portion) and tender, but the curry was a sauce with no added onions or other vegetables, so dish was 5-6 chunks of lamb with a sauce for £19!! The vegetable platter main was very good , tasty and quite spicy.

One of the best, most authentic Indian culinary experience I have had. The flavours were amazing in every single dish I tried. This restaurant is one of the many reasons why I absolutely love Indian cuisine. The service was on point and the waiters were very friendly. I highly recommend a trip to this place to order the tandoori lamb dish, it was out of this world.

Purple Poppadom is a lovely Indian Restaurant on Cowbridge Road Cardiff. I with family had a great evening there. A great selection of different items on the menu to choose from and everything we tasted we really enjoyed. Friendly and helpful staff. This Restaurant is up a flight of stairs to the first floor might be a problem if you are not able to walk up stairs.

This place is amazing! One of THE best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. I had the vegetarian platter which was gorgeous. The food itself can be a little pricey but it’s well worth it. The food was delicious and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. The vegetarian platter comes with a selection of curry/curried vegetables, rice and a naan bread. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Definitely book in advance though as it can get busy.

Tuvimos una buena cantidad de entrantes que fue recomendado por el personal que era muy servicial. Optamos por pedir son los principales elegidos y todos estaban fuera de este mundo, gustos increíbles en todo. Había 10 de nosotros en la mesa, la comida se entregaba todo al mismo tiempo, cada plato estaba caliente y no se cometieron errores - todos disfrutamos de nuestros platos. Este lugar merece su reconocimiento como el mejor restaurante indio, y para nosotros, es el lugar número 1 para cenar (de una lista muy extensa de establecimientos desde Cardiff hasta Swansea. Si usted está pensando en visitar, deje de pensar y simplemente reserve una mesa - no se decepcionará.

Vine al Poppadom Púrpura por un regalo de Navidad de mi esposa con mis padres. Todos teníamos el menú degustación y cada plato era delicioso. Nos gustó que cada plato vino de una parte diferente de la India / Nepal. A mi esposa y a mamá no les gustaba el curso de médula ósea, así que el restaurante estaba encantado de cambiarlo por un biriyani, que era muy sabroso. El servicio fue muy atento y nos sentimos muy bienvenidos. Sin duda recomendaría!

This restaurant oozes high end dining, the food is absolutely unbelievable, the staff are welcoming and attentive and the restaurant has a great atmosphere and is done out so nicely. We’ve eaten here so many times both dining in and takeaway and everything we’ve had has been delicious, would highly recommend

The food was very tasty. The service was excellent. The lighting was bright, which i felt reduced the atmosphere. Maybe a slight reduction in lighting would increase the atmosphere. I did feel it was a little on the expensive side but would go back, buy only on special occasions.

The Food was average at best and the cutomer service was poor. Furthermore, the portion sizes were bitesized. Cumulatively, the experience was awful and the prices of the food were not justified by the taste and experience. It tarnished what was meant to be a special occasion.

Our recent trip to Wales brought us to the charming Purple Poppadom, a gem of Indian cuisine that exceeded our expectations. Despite a steep staircase leading to the restaurant, which might pose a challenge for those with mobility issues, the culinary delights inside made the climb well worth it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with beautifully designed interiors and ample table spacing. The noise level was comfortable, creating a relaxing dining experience. We were particularly impressed by the extensive wine list, which included a delicious Albariño that complemented our meal perfectly. The service was friendly and attentive, though we did find ourselves flagging down our server for refills more often than we're accustomed to in the US. However, this minor detail didn't detract from our overall enjoyment. The food was simply outstanding. We indulged in the Alleppey Prawn Curry, Lamb Rogan Josh, Saag Khumb, and Peshwari Naan, and each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and spice. The portion sizes were generous, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. One of our party members, a local, raved about the Alleppey Prawn Curry, declaring it the best he'd ever tasted. The espresso Martini was a delightful surprise, perfectly balanced and a refreshing departure from the overly sweet American versions. Greeted on arrival by a super friendly front of house.. the restaurant has beautiful decor… quite romantic even. The food from starter to main was superb.. Highly recommend. I will definitely be visiting this little gem of a place again.

We booked this for a celebration as a couple, my partner and I love trying new restaurants and wow ! The dining was certainly an experience. The authentic taste of India. The food was so flavoursome and rich. Each of the dishes from starters, to main course, dessert and drinks were outstanding in both quality and price! We were totally satisfied when we left, didn't feel bloated or sluggish but completely satisfied and happy over the dining experience. Would we go back when we visit the city in the future. NO DOUBT, if you're thinking of places to eat while in Cardiff, this should be at the top of the list for a truly fantastic dining experience!

Let's start by saying PP is one of the shining lights in Cardiff's foodie scene, and have been for many years now. It's great to see that they continue to push the boundaries with the constantly evolving menu. So let's get on with how their latest seven-course tasting menu rates. Starting with the Raj Kachori by Chef Gautam this kicks off the menu off with a bang. From the perfectly crisp shell and the unctuous, spicy filling topped with sweet pomegranate, this sets the scene for a tour around the Indian foodie landscape. Next came the Goan Prawn Kari from Chef Romeo. Sweet meaty prawns slathered in a rich, warming sauce and a little prawn powder. Again perfectly pitched. For a change of texure Chef Bhumi's Nepalese-inspired Gurkha Jhol Momo shows it's Oriental heritage with soft chicken dumplings sat in a rich broth reduced to intensify the flavour. Head Chef Siddartha's Guinea Fowl Seekh had a soft, almost yielding texture with delicacy at its heart. The pineapple chutney is a welcome addition adding a little sweetness. The veggie Gobhi Mattar from Chef Lalit was a terrific dish and a nice change of pace. The piece of spiced cauliflower was chock full of flavour and add to that the glorious pea soup, this one was of the stand out dishes. Not surprisingly Chef Anand George's Bone Marrow Varuval was an inventive use of a 'foodie' ingredient elevated by his South Asian treatment. The almost addictive sauce served with the light-as-a-feather Laccha Paratha was an absolute treat. Rich, moreish and unique. Finally, the Mango Bhapa Doi from Chef Leela was the perfect finish to the meal. Not overly sweet, and refreshed by the fresh mango and complimented by the delicate tuille. A wonderful showcase of Purple Poppadom's brigade and a lovely idea.

Had a wonderful meal tonight. It was quiet when we arrived but soon filled up. We had a lovely table in the middle of the room and the decore was refreshing and modern. The food was excellent, and we over-ordered as usual but we couldn't leave anything behind. I especially enjoyed my lamb dish and I must mention the crispy okra which was amazing. We were looked after so well, a big thank you to all the staff who were polite, helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to our next visit and I think this will become a regular restaurant for us. Highly recommend.

Amazing food, amazing service. Accommodated our very hungry party of 7 and a baby, last minute at 3pm on a Sunday. Helped us choose, brought snacks while we waited, and made sure we had everything we needed. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Came here on the basis of recommendation in lonely planet and Michelin guide, looks not too special from the outside but very nice inside. Fantastic food, scallop and duck starters and sea bass and lamb shank mains all great. Indian white wine also good. Great meal overall.

We went as a couple for an early evening meal We started with popadoms - 3 great dips - particularly the mango We shared the prawn curry and the veggie platter Prawn curry had a very rich sauce - too rich for me - however my partner loved it 😊 Veggie platter came with 4 mini bowls - all tasty - not too Spicey Saving the best to last - the Aloo - best thing in the menu - 5 🌟

We were visiting Cardiff and wanted to have good Indian food. This place is one of the best places where we have had good authentic food. The service was great and the very polite. Sushil and Jimmy were great hosts and extremely helpful. It felt as we were having food at our home. A special shout out to the amazing chef Lalit and Gautam, your food was delicious and finger licking good. Thank you for such a great lunch.

Honestly the best restaurant in Cardiff all categories

We had a wonderful experience. This is an Indian fine dining experience. You get excellent service, wonderful food, and a great vibe here. The food was exceptional. We ordered the signature dish. The crispy fish skin was a crunchy delight above the melt in your mouth sea bass. The flavors were incredible. The way the beetroot pachadi zinged when the curry infused mash zagged was just incredible. It was such a delightful meal. We also go the prawn biryani. The pastry locked in the flavor and made for extra moist rice. The yogurt sauce with it was so perfectly balanced. It's slightly sauce and compliments the smoothness of the rest of the dish. We finished off with the rose creme brulee. I'm a bit of a creme brulee enthusiast. The flavor is very strong of floral. It comes a bright Barbie pink (which is delightful!) The top was the perfect crunch and yet didn't get stuck to your teeth. The custard was nice and cool which complimented the warm crunchy top. All in all we were very impressed. I think if you're looking for traditional Indian cuisine this may not be for you. It's a fun dining experience where the chef it playing with traditional Indian recipes to make new plates.

It was a horrible experience. We had a late booking (8 pm) and the staff were really unwelcoming. Gave us burnt naans! Probably not the right place for indians.

Went for a meal with a friend last night , the food was nice had the waiter/ owner constantly staring over we made to rush to eat we haven’t even finished and he came over with the card machine and bill . We made to feel uncomfortable rushed and not been able to enjoy our food I was totally disappointed

Amazing food, very upmarket Indian cuisine. I had the Alleppey Prawn curry which was probably the best prawn curry I’ve ever had in my life! My husband had a sea bass dish which he said was absolutely delicious. The service was really good and lovely friendly staff. The prices are realistic for such excellent cooking…definitely looking forward to returning.

The Biryani is a must have dish I'd never seen anything like the presentation and very very tasty

I ordered a lamb dish there were only 4 small pieces of mest in the main course and it costs £18! The meat was dry and the sauce had a strong raw garlic taste. Ordered a peshawar naan but it wasn't in the bag. There are much better Indian restaurants in Cardiff with more generous portion and taste a lot better. This is a very overrated restaurant!

During a recent visit to Cardiff, I had the pleasure of dining at the Purple Poppadom. It was a memorable dining experience for my family to have together and I’m glad we did it together. You can see the entrees we got in the pictures, but I will focus in on the main course as that was the standout by far. We got the chef’s signature dish, the Tiffin Seabass. I’m a sucker for a signature dish - and I can see why this one is one. The subtleties in the flavours and the way it combines together was very well thought out. The skin was crispy on the seabass, the curry leaf infused mash was something I wish I could make and the dish just worked. I love getting a Biriyani and my daughter felt like some chicken so we got that and the waiter suggested we pair it with the Dal Tadka. The Dal Tadka was almost the highlight of the whole meal so definitely get it, just well balanced and yummy and great to mop up with the top of the Biriyani and Naan. I said almost the highlight because there was more - the Lamb Roganjosh might be the best one I’ve ever had, I shared the meat evenly with everyone, but kept putting the sauce on more rice and eating it with Naan. Like most the dishes, the balance of the spices is a skill on show. Probably didn’t need dessert but the rose crème brûlée was calling out to me, so we shared some. I’ve never had a pink one before but the sugar cracked like it should and the flavours were well thought out, like all the other dishes. We left full and happy and stepped out into the gentle rain of the evening - all with different favourite things we’d eaten and grateful for the experience. The chef’s know what they are doing here and the wait staff were polite, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely get the dal.

It was OK but service was rushed. I was expecting more on all fronts. Good was nice but nor worth the additional price of other curry houses.

The restaurant was great but need a bit more entertainment like music as really not good on a nye when you come with friends and family. Was not fuss with the popadoms dips, as very tiny pots and mint sauce was like paste. The rest of my food was absolutely stunning and the flavours was spot on, so a 10/10 to the chef. I'm Indian my self and I can actually say the murgh lababdar was stunning , if you don't like it hot ask them to make it mild. Was also perfect with the coconut rice and peshwari nann.. sheikh kebab was spot on. Yes I will return again to check out the rest of the menu 👍🏽

This is the best curry house I’ve ever been to. And I dare say I’ve been to a few. Me and my mates come here every few months as a tradition. We always ask for it extra extra extra hot. The service is good, but the curry is exceptional. So tasty. Always go here if you want a curry. Get the Lababdar

Wow - lived up to expectations….. and the expectations were high. The best way to appreciate how good this food is, is to go for a regular Indian the next day (which I inadvertently did). Thoroughly enjoyed every course as did all the diners with me. Only improvement suggestion would be open a restaurant chain in a few major cities. Looking forward to my next visit

Terrible service. One of the staff (could be the manager, the one in black suit) is extremely rude and indifferent, possibly racist. Does not answer questions when asked, simply ignored me. Impatient when answering questions... Just terrible.

So, this was a gourmet culinary treat to the tastebuds! I had visited this gem without expectations and could confirm I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dining in. Very attentive services with explanations of what was on our plates and how best to savour them, whether scooped with a spoon for a painstaking and seductive experience or devoured whole for an explosion of varied flavours and sensations. Over rated who actually things this is a top Indian restaurant has not been to London or India/ Bangladesh Apart from the very attentive service which u expected with a compulsory service charge. It was very average the food I have eaten curry off a street corner that has been better in Asia was expecting so much better.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Sitting area spacious and very clean. Food outstanding. Following poppadoms and chutneys we both had sheek kebabs for starters, outstanding. For our main my wife had a lamb shank dish (Raan Akbari) which had a delightful spicy coating and a delicious hot sauce. I had a curry dish (Murgh Lababar) which had large chunks of chicken in a rich spicy sauce with fluffy boiled rice. Also we had a side dish of spinach with mushrooms and garlic ( Saag Khumb), again absolutely delicious. First time we have been to the Purple Poppadom and it won’t be the last time.

Dining at an Indian curry house in Cardiff was a delightful experience. The lamb curry was a flavorful masterpiece, rich and aromatic. The pairing of local ale and South American wine added a unique twist to the meal. The ambiance was warm and inviting, enhancing the overall enjoyment. Outstanding Indian food in Cardiff. We loved the scallops and the lamb dish (number 9). The rose creme brulee is quite nice if you want to indulge yourself with a sweet ending.

Justifiably billed as one of best Indian restaurants in the UK. You’ll want to book online over the weekend and holidays. Delightful high quality flavors. The Bombay Chat is so good I had it as both a starter and dessert! The garlic naan aroma graces the dining room and the Peshwari naan is excellent too. The vegetarian Thali is good, though I always come away wishing I’d ordered something more bold//perhaps a few starters instead. The masala sliced chai rounds off a delightful evening. Service is quick and discrete. Highly recommend.

What a terrible experience we were a party of 18 for my son's 50th birthday when trying to order we were more or less bullied into what to choose. Food was not worthy of all the accolades I have read about this restaurant and to top it all we were cheated out of £280 as my grandson paid £200 on his card and £280 cash when it came to settling the remainder of the bill no sign of the cash. Just been to the restaurant to take the issue up with them only to find the cash waiting for us nobody at any point rang us today to apologize or even alert us to the error .We will never go there again and will certainly never recommend them .

I had a nice meal and the atmosphere is very good. I went maybe with higher expectations based on recommendations and was left with a sense of disappointment. The starters were amazing but the lamb rogan josh was a bit dry and not as generous as you get in more budget friendly places. I would still recommend as the staff was very friendly and others I went with said their food was very nice if you are willing to pay a higher price.

We heard great things about Purple Popadom and visited tonight for a birthday. When we arrived it all felt very rushed for us to order popadoms and food. We ordered food and it took over a hour and 45 mins for the food to arrive. In that time no member of staff came to the table to apologies or to see if we wanted drinks. Given that this restaurant is rated highly, we all felt as though we did not receive a good level of service and would not rush to visit again! Food was to a good standard, with good vege/ vegan options
