Great food and service, staff were extremely friendly. Living in Canada I have missed a true British curry and came to the Star of Wales via some podcast recommendations. Since my first review, have been back 3 times over the last 12 months, great as always.

El personal es amable y se compromete con los clientes y el menú es excelente. Mi hermana y yo fuimos el día del boxeo y a pesar de que el personal tuvo un día de Navidad muy largo (tenían 3 sesiones completamente reservadas ) las porciones estaban muy buenas y sabrosas. Habían pasado unos años desde que habíamos estado allí, pero definitivamente no lo dejaremos demasiado tiempo la próxima vez.

Personally, I believe this is the best authentic Indian restaurant in Cardiff. The food is fantastic. Reasonably priced, always piping hot and as tasty as it can be. Lots of choice for every course and the staff are always polite, attentive and happy to advise. The fact that it is always really busy is testimony to its authenticity and quality.

Love this Indian. We always go here and have take aways too. It’s always fresh and competitively priced with other Indians.

Been dining at this restaurant since I was a teenager (I'm now 40) always amazing fresh tasty food and service. Always the first place I go for birthday meals and special occasions. It has a special place in my heart as all my family past and present eat here.

Creo que muchos otros restaurantes podrían tomar una lección de este lugar. Si el servicio era excelente, bueno la comida es igual de buena. He estado varias veces y he pedido diferentes platos cada vez y todos sabían fabulosos. Los currys tienen su propio sabor único, no todos saben igual, como en otros lugares que solo tienden a hacer una salsa base. Las verduras son frescas y los platos siempre se presentan bien. Es bueno ver que un restaurante como este también es elegido para el rodaje. Es uno de esos lugares donde sabes que puedes confiar en que la comida es buena y llegamos tarde un sábado por la noche y el propietario todavía encontró un lugar para nosotros, incluso sin reserva. ¡Gracias, esperamos volver a visitarte pronto!

Proper Indian Restaurant that has been around for years, run by the same people..Really busy, with great food, atmosphere, and the guys running it are really friendly....loved our visit

The service and atmosphere are second to none from the moment you set foot in the restaurant. I had spicy wings to start which I highly recommend. My main of murgi masala and pilau rice was decent but have had this dish more flavourful elsewhere.

We decided to try this restaurant after seeing it on Mammoth. We really weren't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be the best Indian restaurant meal we've had in a very long time. Lovely flavours and very good quality. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Coming home to visit, the Star of Wales is always top of my list of restaurants - and never lets me down. Great food, great people, a Cardiff treasure. Now I just need you to start doing deliveries to the US West Coast!!

Went back for our second visit to the star and it was just as good as the last time, everything was cooked really well and spiced perfectly, really enjoyable meal in nice surroundings

Have got a takeaway several times from here and it's always good. Ate in during December and was just as good! Food is fresh, flavoursome and staff are always friendly

Read so many reviews praising Star of Wales, but the quality of the food was disappointing. Every dish was fairly bland in flavour with many tasting as if they had been watered down. The lamb saag was the highlight, but the meat was chewy. I thought the food would be traditional curry house fare done really well, but unfortunately it seemed like any other average Indian restaurant. However, the staff were friendly and you do get good portions. All in all it was OK. I wouldn't tell friends not to go there, but manage their expectations given the hype.

A very welcoming restaurant the team couldn't have been better. Service was great. Food fresh and hot. The chicken tikka starter is a must. Biryani was delicious. Marked 4 out of 5 for food only because the salad could have been better. Naan bread were really good. Worth a visit and good value for money

1st time ever going there tonight for my birthday meal and I must I will most definitely be going again. The food was amazing and the staff treat you great. The boss was talking to us and he memorises everyone that goes there. Highly recommend going here.

Overated restaurant rely on regulars who would nt know what a decent curry was chicken chewy on both our meals they dont let you relax ontop of you all the time rushing us through the meal people all ontop of each other .

Went to Star of Wales a few days ago. No booking, but we timed it before their evening rush. Seated straight away. I wouldn't count on this happening, though. They are a popular restaurant, best to book ahead. Food was fantastic, as always. The staff are all really friendly. We've never had a bad experience here.

This was our first time visit to the star and it won’t be the last, we went with friends who recommended it and the food and service was exceptional I had chicken madras and the wife’s was a chicken korma both perfectly cooked , a perfect night out with great food , definitely a return soon

I've been looking for a good, traditional Indian restaurant that was reasonably priced in Cardiff and ive finally found it at the Star of Wales. Will be back

Whole meal was disgusting and waste of money. I would not go again and would advise that you don’t order a takeaway early evening since you’re likely to get tasteless and inedible food.

Lovely food and excellent service

Went here for my birthday with my girlfriend. We live local and hadn’t tried here before. First impressions were it looked a little dated and potentially could have put us off. We were wrong to have dismissed this place. We started with some poppadom with dip, which was tasty. We then split the mixed starter between us which was excellent, the kebab was a highlight. As a main, we had a chicken tikka masala and a Lamb Bahar. We ordered rice with the tikka as this didn’t come with the dish. And a peshwari naan. The tikka was a highlight, great bit of spice and the flavour was excellent. Waiting staff were attentive and got our order right. Atmosphere was very casual, which we liked. Plenty of chatter and buzz. Drinks selection is good, I’ve attached a picture of the drinks menu as we couldn’t find one online. They do also deliver. Overall experience was excellent, great curry house and is ideal for a cheeky curry and just round the corner! We will definitely be back.

Got a upset stomach today thanks to this place. Sorry for being vulgar but if any more explanation is needed about this restaurant then you deserve the same fate as me. Not happy.

Restaurant was just clean enough, seats a little grubby, friendly atmosphere though with a typical decor. The chicken balti was average but nice, except for the chicken, it. was very tough & ruined the curry. Some side dishes came out cold & our 12 popadoms were stale. After a exhausting explanation to all the waiters about a few unsatisfactory dishes, I asked to speak to a member of management, I was informed there where no management on the premises at that time. Eventually they discount those dishes. All in all a average place to eat but we won’t be returning. Disappointed.

Thursday evening had two chicken balti chicken very overcooked and rubbery Active send one back The sagpioneer and Sagarloo we are beyond average rest of the food was okay at best for £158 food was absolutely terrible not value for money they did knock off three dishes not put them on the bill they were so bad overall 4 out of 10 surely they have to be better places to eat in my opinion. But the chicken was like it had been re-cooked it was unreal i’ve had better chicken in KFC. Seriously not kidding. But hey Ho beware of the quality of the food The water had he’s shirtsleeves all over the nanbred. And holding The plate with his hand and his thumb all in the nanbreds. We only at the centre of the nanbred Hope this will help improve on service and quality of food we had 12 Popadoms even they were stale

Omg, I have never had carrots, peas, n sweetcorn in a normal chicken curry... very old fashion decor.

Our daughter was 40 so I booked tables for all 24 of us to meet up to celebrate. On a Wednesday at 6pm. We were greeted by the Manager Dilwar and sat at our tables. The staff were so helpful and polite, nothing too much trouble. The food was well presented, plentiful, perfect temperature, and delicious a 10/10 from all. What we couldn’t eat was bagged up and taken home! I would like to say many thanks to the chefs. The whole experience created happy memories of her birthday celebration. Star by name and 5 star by rating. Thank you everyone definitely see you again soon.

Had takeaway from here yesterday, the chicken tikka masala didnt look right or taste right. It had all little white bits in it and I wasn't sure if it was curdled cream or coconut flour. The masala had a little kick to it but apart from that was bland. The chicken tasted like it had been boiled in some red food colouring which added to the bland taste.

The food here is always amazing.... I couldn't finish my meal so the boxes it up for me to take home and enjoy later. Been here many times and will be returning.

Top notch takeaway last night. Easy to park on the road outside, piping hot and very good quality. They checked the containers in front of us to make sure everything ordered was there and couldn’t have been friendlier.

Let start with the service - the best I can remember in an Indian restaurant. Super friendly and efficient. The food was great too - lovely level of spicing and good portion sizes sensibly priced. Would definitely recommend this place after our first visit there last night.

Onion bhajis no cucumber no tomato just some wilted rocket, I ordered just a chicken curry with half and half, it was like soup with stringy tough chicken in chips were solid, when the bill came it looked to high, I tried to take the receipt and he said ill rip the bottom off for you with the price on, I asked for the whole receipt but he said that was not for me? I have noticed that in the purple poppadom and many curry houses they write very bad and change some of the numbers so they can say human error when there is an extra £20 added to the bill, it seems to be common practice now essentially if they clock your drunk.

Was extremely disappointed with my recent experience I asked for a dish to be mild which had to be returned because it was too hot. Then the waiter told me - ah I forgot to tell the chef - so my food had to go back and be re cooked whilst my guys were eating there's. The restaurant was far from full but staff were hovering around the table when we had finished so it was almost like - you have finished - time to go! So we left with the view never to return again. Very disappointed

Absolutely fabulous food and the service hasn't changed over the years it's still first class.

10 of us on a Friday night out for a birthday. Everyone was happy with their meals except one who tried something new and he wasn't keen but nothing wrong with the actual food. Staff are all really helpful and make sure you have everything and your glass isn't empty for long! Will be back and highly recommend 👌

This place was AMAZING. Not only was the food delicious, the employees were delightful and very generous. The atmosphere is great, which makes eating there an experience that isn’t just about the food. Dill especially was very friendly and we had great conversation. The staff here goes above and beyond to treat you like family. Highly, highly recommend.

Absolutely loved every dish. The service was outstanding, nothing was too much trouble. The food was so delicious. I loved the way the menu informs you of the allergies from the onset. The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I was so full afterwards I had to have a little power walk to burn some calories. I had enough for lunch the next day. Definitely eat here again on my next visit

If you're thinking of going here I suggest you plan and book well ahead. It's unlikely you get a table on a walk in. That said, the menu is varied, clear and concise as well as reasonably priced. The food is excellent and the service was great. Very friendly staff and a lovely ambiance. Well worth a visit.
