Previously had an enjoyable experience. Last night,not good. Service terribly slow, food good, prawns over-cooked.

Under new ownership. The food and service is second to none. If you are not sure what to have ask them and they will come back with something special.

Awful awful awful awful 2 and half hours wait on delivery. Naan bread missing. Attitude of staff diabolical. Will never order from here again !!! Awful awful awful. Deserves to shut down !!!

We always collect the meal rather than wait for a delivery, which does take forever, but the meal is absolutely fabulous. I would recommend you trying the meals from there, but collect rather than delivery

We ordered in as we had just put our little one to bed. We saw it on just eat and the set meal seemed a decent price for 2 popadoms, 2 starters, 2 main, rice and nans. Well we waited 2 hours for delivery and had to phone. We simply got a "sorry your food was a bit late". A bit? Two hours? Could have seen past it if the food was delicious but it was far from it. Starters were fine, just lacking in the meat department. Now the mains were tasteless with naff all meat and just pure grease. Clearly have no idea what any of the dishes were supposed to taste like. Worst curry I have ever had. Would never order from again, forget sitting in!

Yet again poor food from the spice house Barwell, thought we would give them another go after having a poor meal from there about 6 months ago, ordered a chicken Balti that was watery, no flavour what so ever and hardly any meat, the garlic nan tasted of cardboard and the poppadoms tasted they had been cooked in 10 year old oil absolutely vile. Dips for the poppadoms were only half full. Rang to complain and there response was thank you very much. Will never order from them again.

Service fine, empty restaurant, very poor food and Bengali beer one of the worst I've ever had, avoid it! Prices OK and that's the only plus sorry.

Without a doubt the worst Indian meal we have ever had everything was far to Spicy even the Korma was like a vindaloo don't waste your money. Go over the road and get a take away from the other Indian takeaway

Ordered two currys from these tonight thought they would be quick as there local less than 1/2 mile away ,took over a hour and a half for us to recieve it ,we kept phoning and all they said was its on its way ,we asked for a reduction of the bill ,wouldnt even do that ,when we opened our currys it was all sauce with 4 of the smallest bits of chicken we had ever seen ,safe to say will not use again ever ,

I have to say, food is cheap here compared to other places!we eat a lot of Indian, tried for first time, food was ok, some of the lamb was really tough, delivery took over hour and a half even after phone call!!! , we will go again to restaurant with the kids as it is somewhere different!! But it shows you get what you pay for!!!

Bit concerned after seeing other reviews and for sale sign!! However food excellent, service good, gets a bit smokey when kitchen door left open, but is a small restaurant. Owner said premises for sale not business so will definitely go again and would recommend.

After our night helping out at the Christmas lights switch on some of went to the Spice House. I had read some bad reviews about the place and was cautious but had no need to worry, it was great staff were very attentive, the food was great, we will go again

Was poor from taking the order on the phone wrong address then waited over an hour driver phoned to say could not find address because he was sent to the wrong area food was cold when it turned up

I had heard bad reviews about this place but thought we would try it anyway. Glad we did as we (a party of 4 adults and 1 child) had the place to ourselves for a while at least. The order was correct, the food was nice and hot. Plenty of meat in the dishes and good service. I've had better currys and I've had much worse. Overall, I'd return again as it was a pleasant surprise over what I was expecting

Ordered through just-eat, received notification of expected delivery time, this came and went, checked just-eat to see if delivery time had changed, but no, order simply declined. Didn't even have the decency to contact on the given contact number. Appalling customer focus, wouldn't bother, they clearly don't....

It's a shame that this restaurant doesn't get more business, it has amazing food at a good price and it's waiting staff are wonderful. There really isn't much more that can be said about the Spice House, but this really is a place to try and then use on a regular basis.

We used Hungry House to order takeaway from Spice House....first time and our very last time too! One of our dishes was to be with lychees, we got mini green grapes in it instead....very dissapointed. Peshwari nam tasted like sugar and bit of coconut nan....I could go on but wont. To sum it up would NOT recommend to anybody who likes tasty food :(

I have eaten here often and depending who's cooking the meal can be hit and miss. the staff are always friendly and attentive.

We had the £22 set menu for two but the great thing it wasn't really set because you start with popadoms then you each choose a starter next you get to choose a main course each which type of rice you would like and choose a type of nan each and they give you Bombay potatoes as well !We had the balti chicken to start with then we both had the chicken madras for our main and two keema nans we could not fault any thing .

Ruined valentines night waited nearly 3 hours for a delivery didn't even have the decency to update on order status when it got half an hour over estimated - called and said you'll have to come and pick it up in about half an hour!! Whole night ruined thanks for nothing never using you again.

Well after reading the above reviews I thought long and hard wether to even bother, Im glad made the decision to attend. you do need to try it yourself and not rely on things you read. We had five courses and must say the meal was more than exquisite. Tantalizing taste buds. Trust me very very good.

went to friends in barwell,went for a few drinks and went here for a take away.we had an awful time here last time,but this time it has vastly improved.the orders were correct,and the food was lovely,perhaps they are finally listening to complaints

I vowed I would never set foot in here again, but going out as a foursome the other couple insisted.so with anticipation we went. To my surprise it was so much better than the other time we went. The food was better, tastier and they never got the order wrong. Still not the best Indian within ten miles but a great improvement

Trouble started making the order, wish we cancelled and got our usual from Raihans (which is also in Barwell) but we chose Spice House because we were told it was £10 each for us both for set meal, starter-main-2 popadoms... Upon asking the price at the end they said it would be £25 even though we didn't order any extras?!?! So I questioned their false advertising and they said that the website was old and knocked £2 off the price. So they said it would be an hour, an hour later and I got a call on my mobile from the driver saying he was in the middle of earl Shilton somewhere (5 minute drive from my house) and I had to give directions and hope for the best, his mobile was crackly and I couldn't understand a word he said so I explained where I was and hoped for the best, 3 telephone conversations and about 30 mins later I had to walk over the road to the shop which he had finally found. He laughed it off and said he was given an address which didn't slightly sound like ours.. By this time me and my pregnant wife were very hungry and in a bad mood. When I opened the bag, some of the boxes had leaked which made it very messy to get onto the plate, my white sides ended up with big curry stains that I had to put bleach on 3 times to get off, obviously the food was cold by this point so had to warm up in the microwave, by this point we were angry and ready for bed. How can they get away with such terrible service i don't know. I want a refund!! Oh and the popadoms smell and taste like fish

Takeaway. Delivered under half hour. Is a Wednesday evening so maybe not that busy. Had special offer, off a new flyer that was posted through door. Portions where small though. Food was excellent piping hot and freshly cooked.

My favorite Indian take away! We usually order the set meal for two. It is the only take away restaurant I like around us. You won't be disappointed

We took friends from Liverpool who were staying with us for dinner. There were 6 of us we had starters and mains and including drinks it was £90.00 that's great value for money. The service was fine and the food was superb.

Have to admit previous reviews did make us sceptical but decided to visit with a friend and make my own mind up. No complaints and would definitely return. Good was delicious, value for money and a pleasant evening. Gave slightly lower for service only because I felt our order could have been taken slightly quicker, but I have definitely waited longer in other restaurants. Really handy little place-next time we will remember to share a portion of rice as we were too ambitious!

The restaurant is not very big, but you certainly don't mind as long as the food in general is good. We ordered something to take away, service was friendly and the ordered food didn't take too long to be ready. At home we discovered that there were only five pieces of meat (chicken) in the curry... and a lot of sauce. That was a bit disappointing. We also should have ordered rice as a side dish, so we only got some sort of naan bread, which was good and enough, but didn't really replace the rice.

Ordered my food at 730pm it's 945pm and I'm still waiting! I've rang a few times and just told me its on its way! Poor service!!!!

We go to the Spice House quite regularly as a family and always have a really enjoyable evening. The decor and furniture is a little sparse, true, but the staff have always been really friendly and helpful. There can be a wait before the food arrives, but it has always been excellent (I assume they cook it all fresh) and having an earlier meal before the takeaways are ordered has helped a lot with this. I've taken family, friends and work colleagues here and everyone so far has been very complimentary.

Used to live across from the spice house and it was always a great curry. Agreed it took too long a few times but usually worth the wait. Not been for a while and as the wife was embarking on a long term diet I thought I would treat us before the hard road ahead. What a disappointment. Chicken was low quality. Naan bread was like cardboard. The Karahi sauce was a red slop. On top of that you are supposed to get 20% discount for collection and they " forgot" to deduct it until I asked them to do it. I won't be going back to the Spice House......goodbye old friend.

I was always taught " if you cant say anything nice say nothing at all " so ........ the rice was nice .............. no more to say !!! haha ... oh and I did have a little money left over after paying £8 for 2 pints of flat fizzy pop , so I was able to go buy a bottle from the shop after this ..

after going out on a sunday night to our local indian restaurant in earl shilton,an finding it shut for an unexspected reason,we decided to go to the spice house in barwell the next town.well as soon as we walked in there was a dirty table next to our,20 minutes later it was still not cleaned down,even though only two other people were seated dining.we waited 20 minutes for the soft drinks,one of which was completely flat,after asking for a replacement another ten mins later another flat lemonade came.deciding not to complain we waited for starters.my starter was ok,the starter my partner ordered was stuffed mushrooms ,which were obviously from frozen and served lukewarm.the main meals were bland to say the least,only saving grace was there was plenty of it.i asked for a cheese naan bread,that I couldn't taste or see any cheese on whatsoever.the worst part was,they charged us for both flat lemonades,and four quid for a pint of coke,never again will I give them my custom.they seemed more interested in concentrating on take aways rather than the restaurant side,very very disappointed.

We use this restaurant regulurly both eating in and takeaway.I feel I am better qualified to judge the standard of this reataurant than most.I have used every indian restaurant in Hinckley and Barwell over more than 30 years and I can safely say that this one has stood the test of time.OK it isn't the best furnished restaurant in the area and it doesn't serve draught beer but it does have good service and excellent food.If you want pretty plates and beautiful people then go elsewhere but you won't enjoy the food as much!

Like the food and it is really local to us. Lost a lot of business over the years as the service is very slow as they seem to concentrate on takeaways. We have just started to go back in the food is still very good, but if you go in the week you can expect to be the only party in there.

Ordered a takeaway at 6:25 and was told it would be 1 hour....... 2 hours later still waiting telephoned to be told it would be 20 mins...... 40 mins later still waiting! Telephoned again and was told by a member of staff the driver had just left with the order. When I complained about the service I was laughed at! I stupidly gave them 30 mins longer to deliver and guess what....... It did not arrive so this time we did cancel. Never again AVOID this establishment if you actually want to eat!

Just eaten my take away which i ordered 3hrs ago, not only did they try to over charge me, the set meal price was £10.99 plus i ordered chips, it came to £14.50! £3.49 (in the menu for £1.85) for a small bag of freezing cold, rock hard chips. Not impressed. I rang at 7.30pm and the staff where quite rude. 9.30pm came so i rang and they said it will be 15-20 mins....1 hr later it came. It was awful, Slop! the korma and rice just looked like a baby had a acident, no texture or flavor just mush. Rang them up to tell them they offered me a free meal but id have to pay £5 delivery. No thank you....NEVER AGAIN. I usally use Taj in stoney stanton which is beautiful, but there set meals are alot more in price, ill pay the extra next time x

Just had a takeaway from this place. Found the menu online and am new to the area so thought I would give it a go. The food was awful. It was greasy, plain and my sagwala tasted exactly the same as my wife's roganjosh which are two fundamentally different dishes. Delivery took an hour and it definatley wasn't worth the wait. I would recomend a microwave meal over this place.

I used to love eating here....about 10 years ago!! Went.downhill with new owner after that. Been back several times since but always disappoints. Pickles and poppadoms are ok, dishes are very bland and lack any sort of effort / knowledge from the chef and contain far too much ghee. Plenty of chilli used but no flavour other than that. Served on cold plates. Little meat in dishes...4 small bits of dried out chicken pre cooked then added to dish. Service mediocre. I like a curry...but not from here ever again. Sorry, much better places in the area for a curry. As for the best curry house in Leics.....yeah right!! AVOID AND GO ELSEWHERE. I can't believe people like it there...go elsewhere and have a proper curry...!!! (Shakes head)

I have attempted to have a meal in this restaurant on four seperate occasions as it's local. On each occasion that I've been in it has been early evening and there have been only a few tables occupied. They only seem to have a small amount of take-away service so this couldn't have been a reason for poor service.I have been ignored on two occasions, once when I was mid way through ordering a meal the waiter wandered away to talk to a colleague and didn't come back for at least ten minutes (I went after ten minutes so it might have been longer). This was even though I new what I wanted to order. On a seperate occasion the whole place was full of tiny children running around and screaming so I didn't even bother to attempt to get a table.In conclusion, on the sole occasion that I was able to have a meal in this restaurant I found that the food was very bland and average.
