Spice in Redbridge

Having visited a few times now I couldn’t leave this visit without writing a review. From our first visit here and every one since, this is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is full of flavour and just so delicious. However I have to mention the customer service …. It stands out by miles! The whole team is so friendly and welcoming and the owner himself is a true gentleman! Reasonable prices too which is always a bonus! Will continue to keep coming back here.

I went with a friend whose family had used this restaurant for years, so as regulars the friendliness was to be expected.Food was good, not expensive. Nicely washed down with a Cobra!

Wow! First visit for about 6 months and the welcome was great. Drinks prepared very quickly and food order taken at just the right time. We were given the perfect amount of attention by the waiters and when the food arrived it was excellently prepared. There was four of us and we ordered a number of dishes that we had not tried before and all sharded. This was an excellent idea as the portion sizes are very generous and the whole table was cleared - could not have been more impressed with the whole evening! If you get a chance you must try this place Guys! Enjoy!

Visited on Sunday for a birthday meal. There were 20 of us. First of all, I'm not keen on Indian food, the last time was nearly 40 years ago but I was persuaded to go. I was recommended to have Chicken Shashlik and it was explained to me what it was. I shared a portion of rice. Well, I have to admit, the chicken was delicious. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean.

Whenever I go there. The food is perfect but the taste is always good. They never cut corners for the food they serve and every time I feel so comfortable there. Highly recommended for you. Hope you enjoy 😊👍

Have never had a bad meal, I have read some other reviews , and this restaurant and staff are the best. The food is amazing and always served with a smile from someone. All the food was the correct colour. Lol

Visited our favourite Indian restaurant yesterday and it never disappoints. Over the many years we have been there with family and friends. Always greeted with smiles by the waiters. And then once seated, Kalik, the owner comes over and personally greeted all of us with hugs and kisses. It’s amazing how he personally know everyone of his regulars and makes time to ask how you are doing and the kids. This is one of the most endearing things that has attracted us to Spice over many years.😀 So you’re feeling great and that’s before the tasty food comes! After your order is taken, a pile of popadoms with chutney and yoghurt dip arrives. Invariably we quickly finish these off and ask for more, which quickly comes with no questions. Then the food arrives and we always over order - curries, sheesh, sides, naans, -and have to ask for boxes to take the leftovers home. They will even ‘tailor’ your dish if asked. I like my dopiaza or jalfrezi a little hotter - no problem. My wife likes some harissa & they provide it if they have it.🌶️ Our friend likes a lot of sauce with his curry - no problem. The food is always hot and tasty and if there is a problem, it is taken very seriously, corrected immediately and even taken off your bill. We rarely have a dessert as we are so full but always have room for the free aperitif and chocolates. And before you leave with more hugs and kisses from Kalik, the ladies are given a small box of chocolates. I always ask - where’s mine? One day!🤫 Highly recommend this restaurant. Great food, family friendly and lovely staff. It gets busy after 7pm, so strongly advise that you book in advance. Thanks Kalik and look forward to next time.👍

Most definitely the best Indian! There is nothing that is too much hassle for Kalik the owner. I’m vegan and if he can, he’ll change any curry I want to be vegan, food is always up to standard. When ever Iv been to another Indian if Iv been out the area is just never quite like Spice. Staff are all lovely and welcoming, restaurant is always super clean and portion sizes are perfect, would never go to any other Indian. Eat in or take away!!

Our all time favourite Indian restaurant. Went recently and had a fantastic meal for my Dad’s birthday. Been going to Spice since they first opened around 12 or 13 years ago! The food is lovely. Never had a bad meal. Kalik and his team are always super welcoming and look after us. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Part of my family are vegan/vegetarian and he goes out of his way to tweak the dishes so they can eat there too. Lots of options if you don’t eat meat. They are chatty and happy and the atmosphere in the restaurant is always lovely. 100% recommend this restaurant.

Love going to Spice. You can't ask for more in terms of great food, great service and knowing that you've generally been looked after. Kalik and the team are a great bunch. You can chat to them like you've known them for years and always have a smile on their face. I'd 100% recommend Spice!

Very nice indian resturant in Barkiside, Essx. Meal was delicious and the portions were good. Resturant very comfortable and ambient environment. Made to feel very welcome and accomodating.

No matter what group of people you go into Spice with, they will always make you feel welcome. The food was delicious. I asked for something off menu and they did it without a problem. We had children under 10 with us, so the staff made sure that they were happy and food wasn't spicy/kept away from the adult food. We will be going back to Spice whenever we are in the Barkingside area.

Went for dinner on a Monday night in mid August and won't be going back. Pros - 1) Good portion sizes 2) Good location 3) Good peshwari naan Cons - 1) Our main waiter was very aggressive - he was very rough when he spoke with us, very unfriendly and it didn't feel like we could ask questions about the dishes 2) Hair in the food - the table next to us found a long blonde hair in their curry. They called the same waiter to let him know. He then took the hair and started to scrutinise it and said there was no one in the kitchen with blonde hair. The lady then replied well it's not mine and eventually he took it back to the kitchen. 3) Unfair distribution - the three women on our table were given each a Terry's chocolate orange whilst the one male on our table was completely sidelined. 4) Apart from the peshwari naan, the food (four curries, three veg dishes) lacked flavour...very surprising for curry.

This has got to be the best Indian by far always bissy and all the workers are happy and smiling the food is bang on never Had a bad meal, and when you want a take away if you can't get through on the phone just contact the manager Kalik on his mobile and bang within 30 minutes your Indian is there at your door, in the restaurant after your meal they always give complimentary drinks of your choice and a box of chocolates for the ladies.

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been to Spice in my lifetime but every single experience is always the same… fantastic food, fantastic service and a great atmosphere. Kalik and his team are attentive, friendly, generous and will take time to get to know you! I recently came here with a group of friends for my birthday and, yet again, I had a great experience. I love the food here but it’s also the staff that make this place special! Highly highly recommend!

What a welcome addition to Barkingside High Street is Spice. The layout is spacious so tables aren’t struggling for elbow room next to each other. It’s much bigger than you’d think, looking at the front window from the High Street as it extends quite far...

Just visiting the area. Tried on offcance. This was the best Indian meal I have tssted in a very long time. The changed things to vegan so dishes were available to all. For the best Indian food do not miss this great restaurant.

The food is always perfect from spice, we’ve eaten a lot of Indian restaurants and take aways and they always make it great. We ask for little changes and they do what we ask for and it always tastes lovely from Spice compared to others...

Nothing is too much trouble for Kalik and his team, so grateful that he delivered it to us out of his delivery area when we have Corona, it was piping hot and we could actually taste it after 2 weeks of no taste and smell....

Had takeaway delivered tonight and was worst indian food ive eaten in 44 years.extremely pricey 22.60 for single person and was horrible instead of giving out boxes of chocolates to impress the local trailer trash that frequent this type of restaurant they should be spending time getting the food up to quality standard.i dont understand why locals rave over it.i certainly wont be using them again

After a very warm welcome we had a magnificent meal as usual, everybody commented on the quality of the food and service. Had an ice cream cake served to me with a candle and a bottle of wine to take home. Highly recommend to anyone.

We Love the food here and, above all, the staff are great and really make for a great experience here. The staff cooked meals for NHS workers during lockdown-I’m sure this was much appreciated as the food is great.

We have been regular visitors to SPICE for very many years. Due to circumstances this time we tried they delivery service. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, fresh, hot and perfect when arrived. And it did arrive exactly on time too. Spice is a treasure. We thank SPICE and wish them continuous success.

I have been a loyal and frequent customer of Spice for several years and can honestly say I would not choose to go anywhere else. They are aware of my allergy requirements and cater accordingly. The Spice guys are absolutely incredible and give personalised, friendly and amazing service and treat customers like part of the family. The food is impeccable and portion sizes are brilliant, and I have never tasted anything better.I cannot fault Spice, and love being a Spice Girl. Please do give Spice a visit, as you will be guaranteed the best restaurant or takeaway experience by far!

Been getting takeaway from Spice during lockdown to satisfy my cravings, been so good and so well done and quick.Was so excited to come back now they have opened again and I was so impressed with how well they have done with it all. Spice? They don’t know the meaning of the word! Just had the blandest Indian meal ever. It was awful. Having had to have takeaways for months I was so looking forward to actually sitting in a restaurant, what a disappointment! Can’t wait for Birashwamys to reopen!!

Enjoyed my first visit here with my sister for a birthday treat. Well presented restaurant, attentive, friendly staff without being intrusive. Food delicious and freshly cooked. My samosas were best I've ever had. Excellent biryani. I got the impression it is a new business. If not, then I am particularly impressed. Was offered complimentary drink and chocolate which was such a lovely touch. I will definitely visit again and I have already started recommending.

I went with friends, who highly recommended this restaurant. The service was friendly and helpful, the food was good and the portions generous. After the meal, we were offered brandy and chocolates and felt thoroughly indulged. I had a meat dhansak. It was served hot (thermal), the portion was generous and the quality and texture of the meat were excellent. Meat dhansak is one of my favourite indian specialities: it is traditionally served 'hot and sour' and I found the restaurant version of the dish too bland. Perhaps, at the time of placing the order, meat dhansak could be offered 'mild' or 'hot, spicy and sour' to cater for individual preferences?

The Restaurant was very busy when I popped in to collect my food. The staff made me feel very welcome. The food was absolutely gorgeous!! I requested for the hottest/spiciest lamb curry they had on the menu & they did not disappoint, very impressed!! Will most definitely be visiting/ordering again.Thank you

Dinner for 8 sibblings. We had a variety of dishes,fish,lamb, chicken,prawns with naan and rice lovely and fresh, host was very welcoming, service was quick enjoyable evening and value for money. Well recommended

Went to spice restaurant with my partner yesterday had a great meal there and the staff made our night must recommended the tandoori special chicken and chicken tikka danske very tasty also the Bombay potatoes which are the best anywhere I have been to Mark's to kalic Ali and the team, cant wait to go again.

we're incredibly lucky to live close by and visit as often as my waistline allows.Kalik and the team there always provide you with the best service and personal attention, If he doesn't know your name when you go in, he'll know it before you leave and greet you like a long lost friend the next time you visit and trust me you will visit again.Food is amazing, The Shashlik is a house specialty and I would strongly reckoned it to anyone.to sum up, Great food, warm friendly service, great ambience and great value for money. If you enjoy a good meal out, there is no reason not to visit.Just don't book when I want a table!

Went here craving an Indian only to find bland tasteless food, terrible service (would rather sit about on their phones) and a hair in my food! When I mentioned to the waiter about it he’s reply was ‘it’s from the bristles on a brush’ probably up there with one of the worst Indians I’ve had... walk an extra minute down the road Abshar and you won’t be disappointed (only reason I didn’t go here is because they are closed on Mondays)

Went here after reading previous reviews but left very disappointed. The food was bland and greasy. The tikka masala had a taste of sweet tomato soup and in general everything tasted either overly sweet or of nothing.

This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever eaten at, I’ve been going here since it opened and even when the owner was working at a separate one before that, we followed him for the right reasons, the only problem you will have here is you won’t know what to order because everything is 10/10!

You cant beat this place . The food is delectable , I have eaten many different dishes here and each one has been as good as the last. The owners and staff are fantastic . It is a busy resturant , however you are never rushed through the menu . Dont miss out on this little diamond in Barkingside , You will go back again and again .

For a local restaurant Spice is definitely a great choice - good food, fab service, and a great night out. Nothing is too much trouble, food is always hot and fresh and tasty.

I've eaten in spice for a long long time, since it first opened Kalik and the team have been nothing short of exceptional. The food is constantly of a high standard and served by warm and friendly staff. No issues in recommending this place to friends and family.

Been to this restaurant quite a few times. The service is always really good, the food is always excellent and decent size portions, and such reasonable prices. They have just redecorated and that looks good too. At the end of the meal we were offered a drink on the house, and the ladies were each given a small box of chocolates to take home, such a lovely touch. Also the birthday girl was given a bottle of wine. Of course we will be back.

Saturday night, restaurant was busy, greeted with a warm welcome and seated, ordered drinks and were given some poppadums, along with the menu to peruse.

Return visit for a while having moved away. Warm welcome on arrival even though the restaurant was very busy. All our food was well cooked and the meat was tender. Despite being busy we were not rushed. We will be going again.

Got a takeaway last night for 4. Ordering was simple and no issues when ask for confirmation and cost of order - all very polite. Sister picked up the order from restaurant. She said they were really friendly and was a nice restaurant - about half full on a Wed eve. Think this will be my new go-to as my previous seems to have closed. Tried one of the top rated on Just Eat a couple of weeks ago and wasn't anywhere near the quality we got from Spice.

Me and my dad usually get a take away and we collect, we always get offered a small drink/ beer while waiting and complementary popadoms and sauces.

Love spice. Been coming for years. Amazing food. And lovely staff. Kalik is so friendly and welcoming and he never ever forgets his customers. Couldn’t recommend this place more for decent fresh Indian food.

18 of us piled in here tonight to celebrate my sister in laws birthday. Very lively restaurant with friendly wait staff. Good food a come out piping hot and more or less all together for such a big table of people. Reasonably priced. After dinner drinks were offered on the house at the end of our meal along with large tins of chocolates, which was a nice touch.

Good service however, food was very bland and no spices at all - given we asked for extra spice. Not for the asian taste bud. I would suggest Caraway in Gantshill as the best restaurant hands down! They did give us complimentary sweets to take home but doesn't make up for the food.

As a person that travels a lot and eats ALOT i love finding a place that does great food and are very welcoming! Spice ticks all the boxes! All the staff go out of their way to help you and make sure all your needs are covered. The food is top class!

This is a top top Indian restaurant. Excellent food served by excellent staff. Nothing is too much trouble, an amazing experience. You may want to book though as this place is nearly always full. Speaks for itself really!!

Well this place has the best Indian food in the area we as a family travel from Brentwood and come here twice a week also the staff in here are very good especially Ali and the manager fat boy the food is very decently priced for the quality.to all the staff and chefs keep up the good work looking forward to coming down this week...

We came with friends. The manager shook our hans as we entered the restaurant. He was so friendly. All the dishes we ordered was fantastic we really enjoyed all our food unfortuatley we could not finish it all. Portions were huge. We were servdd a complimentary drink. The ladies we given anbox of malteasers great place.

My family visited Spice a few weeks ago for a mid-week meal. We each (4) had a main dish and rice each and shared poppadoms, two sides and a couple of naan. The meal was great- portions were large and service was friendly. Our bill came to around £50. The waiters were lovely and offered us drinks on the house afterwards and even gave us boxes of chocolates!

Another first class evening at the number one restaurant. Food excellent and service first class. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Had a lovely evening with a friend at Spice. The staff were so nice explaining their specials and recommendations ...great service without being intrusive. The food was really good fabulous flavours and different dishes to other Indian Restaurants. It's a 5* from us.

Have been previously and usually quite happy with menu, but recently went again and very disappointed at quality of food, especially the chicken very watery and tasteless. Spoilt an enjoyable evening otherwise.

We were there again last night celebrating our Eight year anniversary with our family Excellent service , wonderful food ,and attentive staff The portions were ample could not fault it. Keep up your standards you will not go wrong

My husband and I came here for the first time last night after a few drinks at the pub. It was pretty busy but they were able to seat us quickly and poppadoms were brought to the table asap. The food we ordered was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. We took half of it home! They also do Aloo Paneer. A dish I’ve only ever seen in one other Indian restaurant. It’s a favourite of mine so I ordered it. Was amazing!! Service is excellent in this place with polite and obliging waiters. The owner was really attentive and jokey - made us feel like we were regulars even though it was our first time there. Will definitely be coming again and bringing my in-laws who always like to try new places.

Always treated as one of the family, Kalik is an amazing host and the staff are attentive and professional. Food is amazing and I will not have indian food anywhere else not even a local takeaway. Thoroughly recommended!!!

Spice is an excellently run Indian restaurant inbarkingside. The food is great, the atmosphere is great and so are the staff. Khalik has been in the business since he was 16 yrs old and it shows. He knows every customer by name and never forgets who you are or indeed who your family is. Quite remarkable. Best Indian food I know.always a lovely evening and always full of customers every night of week.

Possibly the best restaurant in Essex. Food is always fantastic and reasonably priced. Kalik (the owner) will always chat to you and give you free poppadoms and sauces to start, and gives a free box of chocolates to the ladies at the end of the evening, which is a nice touch. He nows how to treat his customers. Will always offer you advice in what to order. One of the busiest places you will find anywhere. I would say there is no other Indian restaurant to visit. My advice is to visit, you wont be disappointed.
