Grand Trunk Road in Redbridge

Great food. Not always plenty of it, but high standard and creative. Certainly expensive, so not a regular, but it's definitely a quality restaurant. Absolutely worth a go when you've been paid. A cut above most others.

So sad to say that this place has gone down hill dramatically. We have been here a few times since it opened and had good, bad and very bad experiences. We went for Sunday lunch and apart from us there was only one other table of 4. Rather strangely the waiter greeted us with the comment that last food orders were at 8pm, we were there for lunch. However he was very attentive. Poppadum's and the starters were good not incredible but the main course's however were very disappointing, bland with very runny sauce's and lacking flavour. We mentioned this to the manager who insisted on changing the dishes, we questioned this practice and asked what difference would it make as he had already informed us the food is batch cooked so the base sauce's were already made, he assured us they would be better, sadly they were identical to the first ones so we rejected them. We understand that by offering to replace the food you feel you can charge for it, no you can't. The 2 garlic nan were both very very dry and crispy and did not look appealing at all and they weren't unfortunately. We decided to call it day and asked for the bill, instead they brought to the table some deserts without asking us if we wanted them, to try and compensate for the main courses, deserts are not our thing but we tried them and they were reasonable enough. When the bill arrived the manager had removed the service charge?? The waiter pointed this out to us as if the restaurant was doing us a favour, we have seen this practice in here before and it is a despicable practice indeed, what did the serving staff do wrong to have their tip removed from them? Nothing at all. We questioned this and said the food that was not up to scratch and was not eaten should have been removed the waiter went to the manager and this was then done, well some of it anyway. If the food is rejected then you should remove it from the bill. We gave you a second, third and 4th chance but you fail to deliver authentic good quality well cooked Indian food. Many of your other reviewers feel the quality of your offerings reflects your rather expensive (more than central London) prices but as a couple and one of us is Indian who eat in many central London Indian restaurants you failed to deliver again on this occasion.

Went again last night with my month, there is no better. Superb food and service. The food and service is second to none 5 stars

Simply glorious. Food was deliciously presented and delicately spiced - and is so far ahead of the ubiquitous Bangladeshi offering. Service was excellent - never obsequious - but assuring we were looked after. A culinary experience that is second to none.

Absolutely amazing food, beautifully presented. It’s an expensive evening - but I enjoyed it. I have been a couple of times and I’m never disappointed with the quality of food.

I've been here three times now and have come away each time feeling it is overpriced mediocre food. I visited again on 29th April. The key to knowing if an Indian restaurant is good is whether Indian people eat there. This restaurant caters for non-Indian people (Indian people don't tend to eat there) and this means they can overcharge for average food and small portions. I wouldn't mind the prices if it was a high-end Indian restaurant in Central London serving excellent food, but it's not. Being Indian myself, I know good quality, authentic Indian food and you won't get it at Grand Trunk Road. The fact that the restaurant owner posts defensive responses to negative reviews says a lot. It shows they are not willing to listen and learn from paying customers. I will not be visiting again.

Came here with my wife for dinner. The service was excellent and couldn’t be faulted. The menu was also very good but lacked that little bit of class to take it to the highest level. The cocktails were great. Let down by the toilets that are in need of decoration.

I visited here for my mothers birthday, during Ramadan, and they were so hospitable. They gave us shots of mango lassi and dates in anticipation for opening the fast, which was a really nice touch in regard to service. The food was absolutely gorgeous from start to finish, well cooked, prompt, and with lovely presentation. I would recommend the veg starter of potato and spinach tikki, they were really nice. In the mains, the lamb biriyani was also a great non-veg dish to try. For dessert I would highly recommend trying the mango crème brûlée. It’s sooo good! The only down side was although the receipt showed “one happy bday” - no one actually said / sang happy birthday, and there wasn’t even a candle in mums chocolate cake dessert. That was the only let down, as it was her actual birthday on the day. But as far as the food and the restaurant is concerned. It was absolutely wonderful and I would definitely go there again.

What a great Location to enjoy one he Best of Indian Cuisine in the Area. What can I say about this place…. My first time visiting this incredible restaurant for my belated birthday meal with my wife, kids and my extended family. From the moment we walked in the service and staff were exceptional. We were warmly greeted and even met Sonia and her husband the owners. The cocktails were to die for and then the starters we ordered .. lamb chops, scallops, fish , Chapli.. soft shell crab… OMG… incredible! As a restaurateur myself… I was blown away by the quality of the produce and flavours that took me back to having home cooked food… but times that flavour that you recall from childhood by 100! This place truly deserves the accolade of being a Michelin star restaurant! And that’s me saying that after just having the starters! Then the mains … oh my days… the balance of spice and flavour is the hardest thing to get right… these guys have got this down to a Tee and in abundance! I cannot wait to visit again and again! Amazing food and service, I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for an authentic Indian cuisine. Great drinks option as well with a top quality of service. A big shout out to Chef Iqbal and the entire team.

Had a meal with my children at grand trunk road , It was an amazing experience from the entering the restaurant upon leaving. Was welcomed very very warm heartedly, we were showed to our table, seated down the way the napkins were opened for us , how menu was presented how things were recommended , allergies asked about , the sequences how all went from drinks to starters to mains and deserts were amazing my family loved it.
