We were looking for a place to camp our campervan for the night. Martin and his mum who had recently taken over the pub when we visited in September are making a lot of changes to the place. Martin went aboulve and beyond to ensure we had what we needed and even offered to open the bar just for us. Although we have a little one so it was an early night for us. Martin has great aspirations for the pub and campsite and we wish them all the best in their venture. Would definitely pop past again if we visit Pembrokeshire again!

Nothing was too much trouble. The food was freshly prepared. The pub is full of character. The atmosphere is unbelievably warm - the landlady sat and chatted with us for 20 minutes as did the landlord as we were about to leave. The rooms are authentically old fahioned - no fake beams here. Have been using the Speculation on and off since Alan and Katy took it over. Yes it has a homely feel and maybe needs some TLC and a lick of paint. Was in there a couple of weeks ago to eat. Food was great but the front bar was very cold. Was drawn in last Sunday by the big sings outside offering All Day Breakfast which is what I just needed before my 5 hour journey home. Was told by the barman that all was on offer was a carvery. Pointed out the signage about All Day Breakfasts (which does not say except Sunday!) and left very disappointed indeed!

Went to the Speculation Inn after ringing to book a camping pitch.Outside the place looks like a junk yard. Inside the place is filthy with massive cobwebs hanging everywhere above you and on the walls and fittings. Worst of all is the black mould all over the walls in the room where they serve the carvery. Finally a visit to the toilets revealed disgustingly filthy conditions. Needless to say we left and found another campsite. Whilst exiting the car park we noticed rodent traps against the building.Hardly surprising that they have rats. Health and Safety need to visit this place.

Visited for an anniversary having checked the menu out online I was disappointed that the actual menu bore little resemblance :/ The seating area was quite cold and the decor doesn't help and need a slightly better finish. The staff were a little too attentive, asked if we were ready to order very quickly before I'd really had a chance to look at the menu and then asked if everything was ok with our food when I'd only eaten 2 chips. However 2 of us ate 2 courses and a bottle of cider each for around £40 so it is very good value for money.

Where to start. Landlady or waitress was very unprofessional the seating area was so cold. There was no effort in the drinks forgot straws and I didn't ask for a pint of coke!! A half was suitable. My daughter and I had to leave the restaurant as the chef came out to talk to other table and was so loud it was upsetting my daughter. He then went on to ask how one of the customers could eat beef when they had thier hand and arm up a cows bum that day!!! Yuck he bellowed and the laugh was exteamly rude. A chef saying that when he had just cooked well more like attacked a steak for my partner and myself!! I left the table with my little girl and went outside. We left five min later as none of the food tasted right. The eating area was echoing and freezing. The lady and chef must of asked us 20 times was everything ok. If I was on my own without my daughter I would of said all this personally. The chef then gave my daughter 4 lollys to take home. Which was nice seeing although she was bloody starving. Last thing food gross like really gross. Is he even a chef?? Peppercorn sauce was left untouched and chips are chunks of pre boiled then deep fried potatoes which are nothing like chips. Please get some kind of idear why this place is empty on a sat night I now give this place the top spot for the worst place iv eaten. Ps my dog had my steak thing

Allen the landlord is a credit to the catering profession with the many meals that he does, including the Sunday carvery, and also does a quiz and curry night, curry is absolutely yummy. All meals are very reasonably priced. Katie is a very caring and hard working landlady. Allen and Katie have really helped us to feel at home in the area. After many years of visiting the area, I decided to give Speculation Inn a try. I was on my own with my kids. I walked in to a lovely pub, with lots of sofas and armchairs dotted around and a homey feel. The landlord was very friendly and although I was too early for food, he offered to cook a meal for my children. There was a shelf full of games and colouring books and crayons to keep the kids occupied. All was great until the landlady appeared. The landlord was chatting to us at the time and his wife came over. He introduced us and we were treated to a stilted hello and cool smile. A little while later, she came over and took a game off my 2 year old son, saying he shouldn't be playing with it and telling my other children to pick up the pieces and put it away, then she took the game away. Why was it on the shelf with kids toys of not to play with? Five minutes later, my 2 year old spilt some of his drink and I asked for a cloth to mop up the spill from the flagstone floor. She coldly informed me that she now needed to mop the whole floor but was waiting for us to leave before she did so! Honestly, it was not even half his drink he'd spilled, probably a quarter of it, only a small puddle. It certainly didn't warrant mopping the entire floor! I felt as though we were indirectly being told to leave, when actually my kids had been very well behaved, playing cards and colouring. One small spill from a toddler in a bar where I'm sure there are plenty of spills was hardly an issue. This is a lovely pub, with a very friendly landlord who assured me my toddler was fine when he had a bit of a wander. They say they are family friendly, which they were until the landlady turned up. A great pub, but I sadly won't be returning as she made me feel very unwelcome.

My son asked the pub landlord to organise a last minute evening wedding party for my family and what a fab night it was too. We all travelled from West Midlands after I got married to be with the rest of the family and had planned an evening beach BBQ but this wasn't meant to be. Luckily the pub owners agreed to sort out my party and when we arrived the outdoor heated barn had been beautifully decorated with banners, ballons and fairy lights and, a lovely hot/cold buffet was ready for everyone to eat. The music was also sorted and, they provided my family with party poppers, mini spaklers and confetti at the ready! The pub owners also welcomed our family dogs and, offered some of my drunken family, after patiently serving them alcohol all night, a lift home. Then to top it all off they cleaned up for us and made sure all the cakes ect were wrapped up for us to collect the following evening when sober. It was a fantastic venue - the barn had a log burner, pool table, dart board, floor space, tables and double doors that opened into pub where the food was laid out. My family also took over the bar area and the small childen were able to access games to play with from the lounge area of the pub to keep them entertained. This was all done last minute within a very tight budget and I couldn't have asked for more or got better anywhere else even with more notice and a better budget!Thank you to everyone at the Speculation Inn and my son who has found a lovely local pub in his new Country of residence.Faye, Tony and family xxx

I have known this Inn for many years and at least four landlords from the days of thriving hostelries through to days of struggle. The current owners have been in situ since December '14 and have taken a fairly radical approach compared to their predecessors. We called in on a Sunday, were greeted in a friendly manner and were pleasantly surprised to find that lunch was a carvery. The food was of good quality and the helpings generous. The range of real ales was a bonus although it was odd that tomato juice was not available. The outside areas do need attention such as landscaping as they are currently untidy. However, this should not detract from the level of hospitality and the value of the food received.

The staff are lovely and attentive, if over so, advising my hungry partner against ordering a full rack of ribs and then offering a doggy bag as he was certain it could not be finished. In the event this was not an issue as the ribs were virtually inedible being tough, chewy and, in my opinion practically raw. The corn on the cob accompaniment was similarly challenging having been cooked and recooked until it too was inedible. My fish and chips was ok and the tartare sauce I requested served in a cute little kilner jar. The salad was just about ok but the tinned peas a big no-no really.Staff hovered around , seeming keen for us to finish and leave. It had seemed dubious whether they would serve us at 8.45pm anyway. Plates were whipped away and no one offered us the chance to have a dessert or coffee. Lingering was never going to be an option. We did respond truthfully and gently when asked if the meal was ok but nothing was done about our disappointment with the food other than an apology. The only other diners ( a family) seemed to be experiencing a similar set of culinary malfunctions and had to send their food back on at least 2 occasions. A disappointing experience overall as the place had been recommended as a place to go for Sunday lunch but as far as a romantic Saturday night meal goes it doesn't tick many boxes despite the setting.Wine came in an individual ,single serve bottle and there were a couple of choices. Beer was ok. Tip: if you do go try arriving early in the evening. Not that easy to find and not much else in the area to choose from.

After a bit of a trek to find the place from Freshwater West, we were glad to be accepted at end of Service. The landlady was lovely and the waitresses attentive (in fact overly). There wasn't a great atmosphere for a Saturday night but the real ale was good. The problem was with the food. We noticed the group next to us sending stuff back, so that didn't bode well. Prices were good and we ordered a fish and large rack of ribs. The former was, well, OK, but the rack, while enormous, was barely edible: sinewy, blood-spotted and covered in a watery sauce. The chips were undercooked, the sweet corn leathery and presumably zapped to the point of being transparent - and the salad limp and unappealing. For goodness sake, if some of the menu is going to be hard to do justice to in the time available, then take it off sale. It didn't help to have cook coming in and ask us if we were still at it, joke or not, as dealing with his product was hard going despite being ravenous. The local talking to her shoe as a mobile was weirdly entertaining, but we won't be back, - certainly not at end of service. Sorry.

Lovely warm welcome from the new proprietors. Enjoyed delicious, wholesome homemade soup and warm rolls in front of a blazing log fire. Just the thing after a wintry walk!

Heard it was under new management so wanted to give it a go.The land lady wasn't at all welcoming, in fact she only spoke to say there was only one room heated. We waited over an hour for meals that were barely warm and served on cold plates. One of the meals(1/2cicken )was so overcooked it was inedible! The vegie Berger was a slide of cheese&a mushroom in a batch(no actual burger). The poached fish could have been OK if it was warm.Altogether a big disappointment. Certainly won't return

We found it difficult to get a meal in Pembroke this evening as everywhere was booked, but just managed to book a table for two at the Speculation Inn.When we arrived they were very busy which is always a good sign.We had to wait a little while, but the service was friendly and they apologised for the delay, but the wait was well worth it.Most of the dishes are home made, good portion sizes, the quality was excellent and we would recommend anyone in the area to give the Speculation a try. It is only a 10 minute drive from Pembroke, but book in advance to be sure of getting a table.

We called about 7.30 p.m. on a Sunday evening looking for food. The reply was, sorry, we only serve Sunday lunch. I was about to go but something made me ask again if we could have some food, even sandwiches. Again, the reply was, we only serve Sunday lunch. I then remembered that there was a sign outside offering food until 8 p.m. Asked about this, he replied, but you can have Sunday Lunch! So we had Sunday Lunch at 8.p.m. and a good lunch it was - meat and six vegetables - a generous quantity of ordinary food.

We came here for dinner based on a good experience last year and were sadly disappointed. The room at the back has too many tables in it and we could not easily sit around the table we were offered because the side chairs were too close to other tables and there was no room at the ends to put your legs under. The decor is a bit of an eyesore and badly uncoordinated. Some the food was OK and the steaks were not. The meat was poor quality and frankly they would be better off the menu. I don't mind waiting an hour for freshly cooked food, which is how long we did wait. There is a small bar where the landlord serves, with a bell to ring if he is not there. It doesn't work. when I pointed this out to him his comment was 'Bloody good job too'. Both the very polite young waitresses need clean uniforms.Overall I was disappointed and would no go back again.

6 of us walked in at 7:30 on a Thursday evening. Granted that a largish party of about 20 had arrived at the same time. We ordered drinks and then asked for the menu. We were then told that as we hadn't booked they couldn't serve us. When pressed the landlord lost it and told me not to get "sh1ty". All I had asked was to be able to spend money in his pub, sh1ty I was not. We had ordered and paid for drinks so retired to the beer garden to drink up. Shortly afterwards a girl came out to tell us we could order food!!!! I'll NEVER go there again and NEVER recommend that anyone go there. Rude treatment from people running hospitality businesses should not be allowed. They don't deserve to continue in business.

My family and a group of friends decided to call in to this country pub for Sunday lunch. The surroundings and decor were largely as you would expect from a country pub and quite cosy. We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu and when the food arrived were a little disappointed, in the first instance the food was not piping hot and the meat portions were not particularly generous. Whilst the food was ok it came nowhere even close to home cooking, which defeats the object of going out for lunch in the first place, that coupled with the fact that I thought it was expensive at nearly £10 left us feeling slightly disappointed with the experience. On a positive note the staff and owner were polite and friendly. Would call in again for a pint but very doubtful as to whether I would pay for a meal there again.

Went to this pub over Easter weekend,Lanlord very welcoming and food was excellent.Where else can you have a Sunday lunch of roast beef with 7 - yes-7 veg on the side.Home made gravy.I would book to make sure you get a table at the weekend, its a traditional pub but with a Landlady who does all the cooking, not quite sure how does it all,but is a human Dynamo !.I had a pint of speckled hen and couldnt complain about its quality. The pub itself is only a 1.5 miles from Fresh Water West beach,so a great place to stop on the way to or back from the beach.Large beer garden,so when the suns out, relax with a beer in hand, plenty of parking and if you like camping,it has a small campsite attached, perhaps a bit lacking in facilities but you can use the pub toilets and fresh water is available on site.A deal can be done with regard to touring campers and tents etc,use the pub and buy the food and you could stay on site for free but ask Landlord first !!Hope this helps, enjoy a great little pub in pembrokeshire

We have been to the "Spec" a few times over the years. This was the first time for a Sunday lunch. The menu was very limited to the choice of Beef or Turkey roast. I guess being Sunday that we should have not been surprised at this but we decided to visit the Spec. because of the glowing reports about the unusually menu that included Rabbit and Venison. Unfortunately the roasts where not really up to scratch, The veg being slightly over cooked and the potatoes not crispy. We love the place and the owners are delightful and very welcoming. We will definitely go again but not on a Sunday.

This is the type of pub you wish was on your door step, so you could settle there for the night. Unfortunately it's a good drive from Pembroke, but it's worth it. Good hospitality by the landlord and his wife. She cooks fantastic homemade food and Pie's, savory and sweet. There is a good selection of beers and real ales. The kitchen and serving staff are good polite and very efficient . It's also in a beautiful part of West Wales and a good location and is a stunner from the road. Had a few meals in this place but always go when visiting this part of the country

We have been here a couple of times and enjoyed good home cooked food with a twist as not too many pubs have rabbit and venison on the menu. The puddings are excellent especially the homemade bread and butter pudding! The pub also has a fascinating history, well worth reading up on.

This is a super pub with a terrific menu and good beer. Service was prompt and so was the food. Our grandchildren ate adult sized portions and even so the bill was reasonable. I would definitely recommend this.

This is a good dining pub just west of Huddleton near Pembroke. There is a varied menus with staples such as fish and chips, burgers, and sausages alongside curry, rabbit pie, and fish. Children's portions can be ordered and there is a separate children's menu with stuff like fish fingers. They do a good line in nursery puddings. They seem to get busy at weekends so worth calling ahead. Good value and good quality.
