Unplanned, we decided to delay our goodbyes by going for brunch. We headed to the Nest, 6x adults and 6x kids, fully expecting that they may not be able to accommodate us. The team made us feel welcome and opened the downstairs area with a big smile. We had wonderful yummy food and a great time together. If we come back to East Grinstead, we will definitely make it back here.

We were hungry and looking for somewhere to have lunch, and came across this place. It looked great with a wide choice on the menu. We had a table in the back next to the kitchen. Everything seemed fine, one of the staff took our order, and then it began. The wrong drink came out - quickly rectified and not a big deal. Then the food arrived…well some of it. There were 2 young kids with us; food arrived for one and we thought the other would be close behind. Then 2 of the adults meals arrived, but not the third. We waited for a good 10 mins without the remaining meals, but nothing, all the while we see food going out to other tables. I asked one of the waiting staff and she went off into the kitchen never to return. So then I went up to the counter to ask - they apologised and went to find out what was happening. No update, but the child’s meal arrived eventually - with half the amount of sandwich as the other one had, apparently a mistake in the kitchen the first time. Waited a bit longer and then the final meal arrived. No real apology or explanation, but I imagine they just forgot. When it came to paying the bill, I’m presented with the card machine and told the total, no bill to look over as you usually see. Plus then despite everything, 12% service on the bill. I didn’t have the energy by that point to say anything so we paid and left, and won’t be back

I took my neice to this dog friendly cafe where I have eaten before. We ordered two jacket potatoes having seen the diners at a nearby table with theirs. The other tables' food looked delicious. Unfortunately ours wasn't. The accompanying salad, coleslaw and fillings were all great but the potatoes were not. They were very small, and one was cold and the other over microwaved so thatvonly about a half was edible. We mentioned this as we were leaving, not having been checked on whilst eating, and the response was very dismissive. Definitely not what I expected. Having looked at recent reviews it looks like something needs to happen to get this place back up to its previous standard. Very disappointed.

Almost immediately on arriving and whilst looking in the display cabinet to see what I'd like, a very rude man kept shouting "can I help" jeez man, give me a chance to decide what I'd like!! Massively overpriced and coffee was tiny. Waiting time is ridiculous whilst young girls, presumably members of staff stood sniggering behind the counter. Such a shame for a small town coffee shop to have such poor custome service. Other reviews appear to concur with this.

Called in for coffee and cake towards the end of the afternoon. Place was almost empty which should have been a warning sign in hindsight. Charged £14.80 for a black Americano, an oat Cappuccino (which was undrinkable), a dry brownie and a dry scone. Absolute rip off! And the place looks like it could do with a good clean. The two young girls working there were very pleasant though.

Another reviewer has said they do not like to be negative about a local independent café and I feel the same way but Nest has much competition on this historic and prestigious high street and needs to up its game. Although the coffee and toasted tea cakes were good enough and the young server very pleasant, I have rated it as below average because of the untidy and unclean surroundings. There are some apparently professionally taken photos of pets advertising a photographer but all untidily displayed on a notice board. Two new ice cream trolleys have been added but the indoor one is taking up valuable seating space and is piled up with cardboard boxes. The drinks fridge is also piled with detritis. I needed to use the toilet and noticed that the inside of the door has not been painted or cleaned for years. It is covered in grime. A spray of bleach and some elbow grease or a quick lick of paint would remedy this easily. Finally, I heard a conversation about the owner hoping to open in the evenings but needing a reliable chef. Unfortunately, I cannot imagine this happening or being a success. What a shame!

I found our lunch to be overpriced and basic especially for the size of the jacket potato and the little toastie received. The smoothies were great and staff were brilliant. We were a little concerned to find out from a staff member that has since left that the owner records everything on the premises including conversations between staff and customers. I understand that CCTV is important to businesses but why the audio? You cannot record conversations between members of the public. This isn't legal and will put staff on edge surely? It puts us off from coming back I'm afraid.

I should have read the reviews before stopping here - I've had the worst ever carrot cake, dry and terribly sugary. While the sweetness is a personal preference, the dryness made me wonder how old it was. My iced latte had a tiny bit of ice in it only so was more of a cold-ish latte than anything else. The place itself was messily arranged and unfortunately not comfy at all. My disappointment is even bigger as I was charged over £8 for coffee and cake. Avoid.

Used to love this place, but hadn't been for a while but recently went in and there were flies everywhere, oat milk iced late had 3 small ice cubes in it and cost over £5! The place looks very cluttered and messy. Shame as it used to have a lovely atmosphere and cosy and welcoming feel always filled with people. Now its empty of people and feels like a cheap cafe and tatty. Definitely gone downhill. The prices have rocketed and it's not worth the prices. I wouldn't return or recommend unfortunately. Such a shame .

I am so sad to be leaving such a poor review for a local independent cafe & somewhere that used to be my number one go to in town. The standard of this place has seriously dropped, they serve budget food sold at high prices, dressed up with a bit of rocket or Aldi coleslaw. Afternoon tea made with Iceland and Aldi cakes (not an assumption, a confirmed fact). The owner talks to his staff, in front of customers, like they are disposable. I am saddened to see that he has since expanded and bought another local cafe. It’s mostly young girls he has working for him and you can see they are not happy with how they are treated, but most I’m guessing too scared to say anything. I actually asked one, last time I was there, if he always spoke to them like that and she told me ‘that was nice compared to normalz’. Not a nice man. Won’t be buying my coffee and lunch from there anymore.

The Nest has gone from a lovely place to eat to below average. I ordered the cheesy beans on toast and a cappuccino. Really that should have been easy. Cappuccino - great, loved the grated chocolate on top. But the beans were awful in every way. I’m not sure what brand was used, but they were a very odd colour, sort of very pale yellowy-orange. The toast was still bread and the whole thing was tepid at best. There was an accompanying small salad with lettuce that had seen better days. I realise that I should have sent it back at the time, but was hungry and needed to eat. Such a shame as this used to be a nice place to eat and I didn’t think I could go wrong with beans on toast!

The cakes and scones are delicious - I can't believe someone said they were frozen, they quite clearly are fresh (my grandparents were bakers)! I am very picky with the coffee I drink and I love the blend they use here from Bean Smitten. My husband and I found this little gem of a caffe. You might miss it if you don't look properly. Right in the heart of the Old High street near the War Memorial. Nice English breakfast, with fresh avocados and streaky bacon and the coffee tastes really well. Being Italian means I am unfortunately picky about my coffee, however the cappuccino and macchiato were really nice, coffee has a hint of chocolate notes, nice touch. Having had delicious coffee and cake at this delightful cafe on numerous occasions, we decided to have a bite of lunch yesterday (Saturday 17/08/19). To say we were disappointed was an understatement. We opted for avocado on malted bloomer with salmon. It arrived after a 30 min wait, by which time our coffee and tea were cold as they were served straight after we ordered. The malted bread was very small with a light spread of avocado and a minimal amount of salmon, topped with a few rocket leaves - we were gobsmacked at how little there was for the cost of £6.50 per portion! No side salad nor crisps! For the price, the portion Should be bigger; we felt robbed. Needless to say, we were still very hungry afterwards and we’re not big eaters. We won’t be having lunch here again, which is a shame. Whilst waiting for our lunch to arrive, we witnessed a member of staff wipe a spillage from the floor with blue towel roll then used the same piece to wipe down the table - it made me feel physically sick!!! I expected her to return to anti-bac the table, but no! Training on health and hygiene definitely needed.

The cafe is small with several tables spread over their two rooms. The space between the tables is quite small but the space has a feeling of intimacy. I found it a pleasant place to chat with my friend over a cup of tea and coffee. My cup of tea was just fine. I had Earl Grey flavoured with Vanilla. Personally I would have preferred the tea without the vanilla flavour. There was a choice of teas with exotic sounding names in splendid looking tins. However, I don’t drink coffee or tea under normal circumstances and would have preferred fresh mint tea or something similar but there wasn’t that choice. However, I will be visiting again because I found it a pleasant place to be.

They've recently advertised they do the best flat whites in town and, as that's my colleague's drink of choice, we thought it'd be a good stop off. Sadly, it wasn't, our coffees were burnt, not well made and not particularly nice. The guy serving was nonchalant, came across a bit arrogant and not particularly interested in serving, more interested in chatting with someone he knows.

Having seen some of the adverts for this place on Facebook, the photographs looked very pleasing so we thought we'd give it a try. I am a professional baker and looked forward to trying their fresh baked scones and cakes. However I was very disappointed as the scones are (obviously to me) not freshly baked, but seem like they are frozen. You can tell a freshly baked scone from the texture. The cakes also did not taste fresh to me. The tea was very basic, The shop itself is very cramped with lots of little tables, no doubt to increase customer numbers but I felt very claustrophobic. Id hate to see a mother try to get in here with a pram! It seems like it is 'trying too hard' to excel in lots of different areas but not doing particularly well in any of them.

A huge blackboard detailing what was on offer promised just what I was after crispy bacon sourdough roll we were going to have cake too but none of it on display appealled. We found a table at the back and couldn't help but notice the odd flooring it felt like it had lifted and was very lumpy. Coffee was ok , the waitress came and explained that they only had one roll left as I can't eat white bread my wife had a sandwich and I had the "sourdough" roll. Just one look at it and you could tell it wasn't sourdough so I just ate the two small salty streaky bacon rashers. There was also a greasy smell in the cafe too which wasn't pleasant. It wasn't particularly busy but I seemed to wait an overly long time for a simple sandwich and cuppa. The staff weren't really personable and it felt a bit complacent. The place was busy and tbf the team said it would be a 20 min wait for food. We agreed but after waiting 15 mins for the drinks to arrive I wasn’t impressed. 35 mins later the sandwiches finally arrived to very hungry customers. Well disappointed doesn’t really sum it up. Being served basic cheap supermarket bread in a place like this concerns me. The only good part was the gammon Ham. We didn’t sample the cakes which looked nice due to having spent an hour plus having a sandwich and a drink each. If you can’t staff the place when busy then reduce the number of covers and provide great service to a few less people. The staff were working hard and were friendly, as ever it’s not their fault it’s the short sighted mgt. I would need an incentive to visit again shall we say!

So assumed they could cope with the orders. 2 coffees and one Apple juice plus still water took 15 minutes to deliver. Food 40 minutes some toasted sandwiches and pancakes. Toasted sandwiches were really average. Bog standard supermarket bread and not well seasoned fillings. To be fair the staff were running around but clearly too many tables for the kitchen and staffing levels. Saw an earlier review from April exactly the same experience so it is one thing to have issues but two not to learnt from them.

A lovely, tea shop serving teas/coffees and lovely cakes. Well behaved dogs welcome, a great place to stop for a cuppa.

Went to this lovely little cafe for breakfast. The service was excellent and the food was delicious, some of the best scrambled eggs I've had. The cafe was quiet so I cannot comment on how it may be during a busier time but the staff appeared to be very efficient. The tea was also very good. My husband had a bacon sandwich and coffee which he was more than happy with. Would definitely recommend Nest!

Never been here before but we visited one weekend in May as we were in the area and our normal tea shop in East Grinstead was full up that day. First impressions was that it was a bit dingy and “underground” like, which made it feel quite dark and depressing in our opinion. The food was pretty good (we had cake and coffee), but I wasn’t a huge fan of their coffee. It seemed quite bitter and unpleasant and I couldn’t finish it. I’m not sure if that’s how their coffee always tastes or whether it was just a dodgy cup but I wouldn’t go there again. I would have said something at the time but the lady behind the till was too busy talking to someone who I presume was a friend and I couldn’t get her attention. I’m sure this place could be quite nice but it’s just a bit gloomy for us and I prefer a fresher tasting coffee.

Situated on the south side of the High Street, near the western corner, It;s set back from the road & half hidden by the "Cook Shop Building". Only had a coffee and scone. Although busy, the service was quick and genuinely friendly. Other patrons told me that the cooked food is of good quality, but I've not yet partaken of that portion of the menu. Toilet was spotless. I shall return definitely. Far superior to any chain outlet or the lacklustre offerings from round the corner.

Popped in with an unwilling teenager and reluctant husband as my suggestion of a change from other places we had been before. Result was that we would all vist again. Tuna toastie, chicken salad, felafel salad and two slices of cake (one was huge) as well as drinks all delivered with kindness and speed. Yummy dressing and interesting additions on the salad - pomegranate and radishes both appreciated and portion size good for a light bite. Reasonable valueand pleasant venue - would have cost us the same in similar settings around town.

I have been to the Nest many times - as its one of my favourite places to have a coffee or some lunch in East Grinstead - the staff are extremely attentive and the food is great. However, I visited recently and left feeling disappointed. They have changed the layout and added (at a guess) double the quantity of tables to the 1st level - which makes it feel very cramped and difficult to navigate around. We say in the back of the 1st level, and were constantly being bustled whilst people tried to squeeze in-between all the tables and chairs - especially by the people going to the toilet. I ordered some lunch, I was told the wait would be 20 minutes - and 40 minutes later my food still hadn't arrived - in my opinion - at a peak lunch time, now with all the additional tables, they cannot cope with the capacity for lunch orders in the kitchen.

This place gets full very quickly, so grab a table when you can. Had a delicious mocha this morning, and one of the tastiest cheese scones I've had for a long time.

Nest is a cosy coffee shop on the high street and the food is delicious. I have had the smoked salmon bagel multiple times and it is so tasty. The food is a really reasonable price and the staff are all very friendly. Definitely recommend going here for a coffee date instead of Starbucks or Cafe Nero.

Great cosy atmosphere, the staff are lovely and they offer dairy free alternatives. I had an oat milk coffee and an avocado and lime cake and my friend had the avocado and canelini beans on toast and it was delicious! Nice to have an independent cafe with some character in my home town. Pretty good value for money, not too expensive, also they allowed my friend's small dog to come in with us. I'm not sure what their dog policy is but they said it was ok if he was well behaved.

No me decepcionó.

Met my friend here for coffee. Smart decor, pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Unfortunately we were disappointed though as the coffee was bitter - not very nice at all. If we go back we'll be ordering something else.

Went to Tulleys for the second time last Friday for breakfast. It was really nice, love the hash brown, sausages and mushrooms are very tasty! 😋 The staff members were friendly and when accidentally there was a misunderstanding with our order the manager was more than happy to amend the dish so it would match the initial order. 🙌 Lovely place and certainly will go back to try the escape rooms, outdoors cinema and the events they have. Definitely recommend it!! Thank you Tulleys team :)

Didn't expect to get a table as we hadn't booked but 4 of us were offered a round table in the bar area which was very spacious. Recommend the fish risotto and the Belly Pork
