S&P Fish Shop and Cafe in North Devon

Booked for my wife’s birthday lunch apart from the weather being a bit fresh . We were supply blankets and a hot drink. The fish food platter was amazing value Can’t wait to return

Another fantastic lunch at S&P with the team on top form to serve up a great sharing platter plus a crayfish sandwich. I don't understand some of the previous negative reviews as this photo and our multiple experiences over the last few years don't bear any resemblance to what has been served to us each and every time we visit. But don't take our word, try S&P for yourself. The crab and lobster are simply stunning.

OMG this place is amazing. Don't be tempted to walk past! Family run and right on the harbour, a true fresh catch to plate experience. We had the seafood platter for two which was divine and £45!!!

We went for lunch in August. There's no indoor seating, but the outdoor seating area is weatherproof. The selection of fish and shellfish is good, and service efficient. We had the six oysters and whole lobster salad, and the crayfish and prawn salad, followed by the lobster sandwich. All washed down with some ice-cold sauvignon blanc. Everything we had was delicious. Well recommended.

Not even average. I had a prawn and crayfish ‘cocktail’. This consisted of a tablespoon of each that had obviously been frozen. I say this as the prawns were swimming in water. This was served with a few salad leaves (bathed in the afore mentioned water) and a very small pot of cocktail sauce. My husband had a crab sandwich. This was also disappointing as the crab was just in the middle of the bread. Nothing, absolutely nothing towards the edges. All in all a very disappointing lunch, lazily presented. Would not recommend and will not return.

Amazing lobster roll and service. The staff was very attentive to our requests even providing a blanket for our group. The location is right on the pier so “fresh” is guaranteed!

Took the seafood platter for two at approx £45. No crab available…..REALLY ,,,!!!. Mussels , mackerel and smoked salmon were all fresh. Lobster undersize but fresh. I guess I am comparing this offer with what you get in France in a similar location for the same cost or less. Much much better across the water hence my average rating.

Oh dear! I have been here a couple of times before and only asked last week their opening times. Made a special trip today only to find they are shut! Very disappointing! I did check this morning and still confirmed as open. If you are going to run a business you need to be reliable..I have also recommended you to other people.if you say you are open, then please be open..not hard.

We had a beautiful fresh fish lunch at S&P Fish shop today. I had the salmon salad and it was a very generous portion and hubby had crab meat sandwich both really tasty. Would highly recommend.

What an overrated place this is! We had the sharing platter at £46. It was 80% salad and 20% mussels, crab, lobster, mackerel, etc! You must be mad to rate this place five Stars! Not worth the money. A tablespoon of fish in each instance that was tasteless. Shame on you Mrs Owner!

The prawn and smoked salmon sandwich on granary ! Omg beautiful ! Visited today and was met by a friendly bunch of staff - a very bubbly lady served took my order and then I waited a few minutes outside admiring the quay side before she delivered to me ! Great service - fully loaded sandwich - £14.95 - sounds a lot but worth it ( personally I managed it but easily shareable 😍😍😍

The seafood here is outstanding, with wonderful mixed platters that will make your eyes stand out on stalks - don’t come if you don’t like seafood as the only alternative is Brie and cranberry sandwiches! Kiddies can have marmite, chocolate spread etc. but the seafood is divine. We are addicted to the lobster sandwiches - for £15.95 you get pretty much a quarter of a lobster plus salad and I also recommend the delicious NZ Sauvignon Blanc at an extremely reasonable price. The area is only small so either come early or book - they now have anti- crap weather defences.

A lovely friendly family run business. I opted for the Crevettes with salad and my partner chose the full lobster salad. The fish so delicious and fresh. Would recommend this eatery to any seafood loving person!

Located in the harbour area this small family business puts many larger establishments to shame. Don't be put off by the fact that they refer to themselves as a cafe, if you love seafood then this is the place to go. They have a wide array of locally caught fish & shellfish bought in from their own fleet of fishing boats which ensures it's as fresh as can be. The Supreme platter for 2 was amazing with a dressed Crab, half a Lobster Crevettes, Prawns, Crayfish, Cockles, Mussels, Whelks, Smoked Mackerel & Salmon (best Mackerel I have ever had). Service was extremely helpful & friendly (thanks Benj). As there is only a small number of tables it's best to book otherwise you may well be disappointed.

We visited this place by chance .. we overheard a lady recommend to someone else, sooo glad we did , food was amazing, service was great. If you enjoy sea food then this place is a must if in the area.

We eventually got a reservation to S&P (fully booked nearly all wk) and weren't dissapointed it was fantastic, we had the Sea fish Supreme and we both loved it very fresh well presented we also ordered Oysters which both had never had we loved them all too, the staff were very friendly and informative would go back in a heart beat, a heads up...phone a day or so before hand to book very popular.

We ordered a shellfish supreme to takeaway and eat at a near by cove. There’s not too much to say apart from it was amazing and superb value for money. All the fish was so fresh and sweet, one of the highlights of our holiday.

We ate here yesterday lunchtime having pre-booked a table. We ordered a seafood platter for 2 with a white wine and Prosecco and sat in the sunshine watching the world go by. The seafood was some of the freshest seafood that I have eaten. A delightful way to spend lunchtime. Be aware that you will need to book and that you get a 1 hour 30 minute time slot, which was adequate for us. Whilst sat there numerous diners could not be seated as there is limited space, however the whole menu is available to take away.If you like seafood, do not miss eating here whilst in Ilfracombe.

We passed by on Saturday evening and hoped to eat here as the seafood looked great. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant was fully booked; fair enough. We asked about getting a lobster sandwich to take away, told that would be fine and it would take 2 minutes; after 5 minutes, when I checked they were "about to make it". A few minutes later we had it, and it was good.Three days later I rang to make a reservation. Most of our party were looking forward to fresh seafood, but one is a vegetarian so I asked about vegetarian options. A Marmite sandwich. Only. And no, we can't bring in our own food for them; not allowed. The attitude feels haughty. I'm sure plenty of people will be happy eating here, but they've just ruled us out.

We pre-ordered the S and P Spectacular to take away whilst on holiday in Ilfracombe, it was the best seafood we’ve ever tasted. It was for 4 adults and a teenager, we brought some extra bread in town and there was plenty of seafood to go round and so fresh tasting. We went back on the last day for some fresh prawns and crayfish as we wanted to enjoy one last time before heading home. Would thoroughly recommend.

We walked past S&Ps by chance and were envious of the people enjoyinging seafood platters alfresco. We managed to secure a table during our stay.The qualifier the food was very good indeed - probably because some of the produce comes straight off their boat 50 meters away! We enjoyed a crevette salad, seafood supreme sharing platter and lobster sandwich. Only empty shells and crumbs were left! Always a good sign!

We were sent here after our fishing trip as we didn’t catch any fish but told it was expensive. We wanted some fish to cook back at our holiday let on the bbq so mackerel or something would have been ok. Well face masks on one of us entered the shop to be shouted at you are not allowed in here Well we didn’t see any signs and you are ok in all other shops. To be shouted at by a member of staff well we just left but on the way we did look at the menu and it is expensive Don’t worry we would not trouble you again if staff shout at customers

Arrived here as been told great place to purchase fish and seafood. Looked for notices to tell customers how many people allowed in the shop etc ! There were none no customers in so mask in I entered. Big mistake I was shouted at by a young girl with no mask on YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE SHOP !!! Shouted at me .I’m afraid after that we just walked away why have a shop you can’t go in no signs saying this staff clearly preparing and serving food with no face masks on . Terrible customer service I would never go back here .

Wednesday 7th July 2021This was my 2nd visit. I went with my 17 year old son and his girlfriend. She doesn’t like seafood so came with a pasty from the pasty shop on the harbour. Staff had no problem her sitting with us eating her pasty. Staff were attentive and chatty to everyone there. Giving advice and directions to places of interest in Ilfracombe and generally being lovely. We ordered the supreme platter for 2 - A Bowl of Crabmeat , Half a Dressed Lobster, Crevettes, Prawns, Crayfish, Cockles, Mussels, Whelks, SmokedMackerel and Smoked Salmon served with Salad, Coleslawand Bread. We couldn’t finish so took a little tub home for supper. S&P is a massive treat and somewhere I would like to bring friends and family staying with me. It’s right on the Harbour where you can take in all the hustle and bustle. Amazing that you can see S&P’s own trawlers ( Our Dylan Ben & Our Olivia Belle ) bringing in goods. Fabulous seafood - shellfish supreme! Half lobster which was very tasty, prepared white crab, whelks prawns and much more with lovely fresh bread. incredible value for money right on the quayside. Phone and book for a table or you won’t get in. 10/10

As the place was full outside we took take away crab sandwiches. Lots of crab meat but bread should be slightly better/thicker. If we could we will stay in and eat some nice sharing plater instead of take away

Tried to get into the restaurant for lunch on a day out to Ilfracombe but it was fully booked. However the friendly helpful waitress offered us a take out which we opted for and enjoyed later at our holiday cottage. It was beautiful and excellent VFM. We had lobster, crab, smoked mackerel, whelks, mussels, langoustines, shrimp, prawns, smoked salmon, crayfish with bread, sauce and salad. The platter was for two, but easily could serve 4. We binned some of the leftovers but kept the prawns and smoked salmon to make sandwiches the following day. Even better VFM!

Enjoyed a wonderful lobster salad over looking the old harbour. Staff were great but for us the option of a better wine would be welcome. However lager makes a good lunch alternative.

Lovely outdoor setting overlooking the harbour. We'd visited a couple of years ago and were bowled over by the shared seafood platter. This time, admittedly with a lighter lunch, a little less so. There was a mix-up with our booking but it was resolved without too much fuss. We both started with prawn cocktail. No problem with quantity but we got the strong impression the prawns were defrosted rather than fresh-out-the-sea. (Happy to be corrected). The crab sandwich was fine but the lobster sandwich (at 11 quid) was a bit skimpy on the lobster. The salad garnish included the sadly near-ubiquitous unripe tasteless tomato. A few cherry tomatoes would have put smiles on our faces for just a few pence more. The bottle of Pinot Grigio was good value, however.

Travelled all the way from Coventry , did not get disappointed - ordered Supreme Seaford Platter superb taste of sea. People friendly I would go again to try soemthing else.

This place is amazing. We reckon we have visited 5 times now. We go every time on our annual visit to Devon, travelling all the way from Lynmouth specially. The lady who runs the show is great. She recognises us and our dalmatian every time and is a wonderful host. The food is literally the definition of fresh. It tastes so good and is completely refreshing that if you ask where something has come from and when you are given the day and the location readily. We had lobster sandwiches, with some crab, salmon and crayfish on the side. What a treat. Would thoroughly and do always recommend this place to everyone. Thank you and see you again next year! Excellent seafood, the mackerel and the lobster on the platter were fantastic. The seating area is really small so definitely have to book. The staff worked so hard to make sure everyone was happy, under huge pressure. In a time where hospitality is on the brink of collapse compassion and support for small businesses is everything. One of the best meals of our trip!

Do not go here! We booked a table to only turn up and they told us they had over booked. I can appreciate restaurants make mistakes and I would have been fine about it, however the owner was so rude abs aggressive about it making me feel it was my fault. The boy who took our booking tried to step in to resolve the situation as he accidentally took our booking when they were all ready full but the owner shouted him down!From reading other reviews I’m actually glad we didn’t eat here, food looked very poor and saw lots of people complaining on the service.

Excellent seafood. Outdoor only seating area which does get busy so make a booking to be sure of a table. Otherwise takeaway will be your only option. Varied selection of locally caught seafood with some brought in from other nearby ports. Sandwiches to platters available to enjoy by the harbour. Visited 3 times in one week. Support your local fisherman and visit here.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after walking around Ilfracombe, and what a lovely little café it is. There’s only 4 tables outside so we were lucky to get in. Most of our group had crab and prawns which were very tasty. The price was certainly reasonable for where you were sitting. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. It’s lovely to see a fresh fish cafe like this in North Devon. Good luck for the rest of the season.

This is my first stop when visiting family in Devon! You won’t be disappointed, ordered the seafood platter for collection, it made a lovely special lunch and will buy again when next down that way. Bought wet fish also on last day to bring home.

We were staying very close by and due to restaurants not being fully open we decided to treat ourselves. We ordered two live lobsters (one each!) - and arranged to collect them (not always available - weather dependant). We cooked them ourselves traditionally and served them with garlic butter (used locally foraged wild garlic), fries and salad. Simply stunningly delicious lobster and a beautiful treat. Truly eating local and fresh! The team were really friendly and helpful. I do hope people support this excellent business, they deserve it. Would also return and eat in their cute outdoor eatery. The staff were friendly and super efficient. Go here, grab a table if you can, or take away and find somewhere overlooking the harbour to eat your catch - hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Booked in advance, it’s a great setting and should celebrate fresh quality seafood but sadly didn’t deliver. The freshness wasn’t there, neither the quality and in general felt the owners don’t actually like or respect their own produce or customers.

We ordered 2 takeaway sandwiches - prawn and crayfish and ate them on the harbour wall. The seafood tasted lovely and incredibly fresh. One of those sandwiches that you never want to end! Lovely waitress who served us and an all round delicious lunch.
