Soya Korean and Japanese Restaurant in Woking

I've never been to an fusion restaurant which offered generous portions ever in the UK. You can either visit a restaurant for an interesting range of cuisine, or visit a restaurant which offers generous portions. Warm, welcoming team.

We odered katsu curry on the app and showed up, thinking the payment hadn't processed. My son stayed in the car and I walked in and they said my name, handed me a bag and off i went within a minute with totally delicious food. We will go here for our katsu in a flash! Hot and super crispy with yummy sauce. We loved eating in a bit more for their little extras they give but didn't have time.

The food is very good my family love it so much. Just I noted the waitress watched her watch in front of us from time to time since we walked in the restaurant. Maybe it is me too senstive we arrived the restaurant just an hour before its closing time in the afternoon. This made me feel rushed to finish the meal.

You certainly won't forget this place in a hurry. We called in at 7pm and it was packed so we booked for 8 and so glad we did! The food was incredible. The pictures do all the talking. A must visit

Great for a quick reasonably priced sushi…. Sashimi wasn’t great as it was still very cold from being frozen.

This is our favourite place for sushi take away in the local area. We are big fans - always fabulous sushi!! We come back time and time again and have for years

Been in a few times for lunch and never been disappointed! The lunchtime offers are fantastic and really well priced. The services is always efficient and easy enough to get a walk-in seat.

Delicious BBQ, great fun & very tasty. We had the BBQ set which was great value with high quality meats and salads. Lovely owners - highly recommend.

A short walk through Woking town from the train station and we arrived around 12:30 - we were the only 2 customers. Lukewarm welcome but we were seated promptly and a menu placed on our table - menu looked condensed so assumed they only did a few items for lunch - when the front of house/only waitress came back to take order we tried to ask for some suggestions and we said we were very hungry but not been to restaurant before so unsure on portion sizes. We were also then given another menu for soft drinks and this appeared to be the full menu with more choices - we tried to ask if we could order from this menu but did not get a very decisive answer? So we ordered 4 items from the starters (3 types of steamed dumplings & a seafood pancake) with a bottle of wine and we said we’d keep menus to order next course after having starters. Another table of 4 customers came in shortly after and whilst we had our starters we were deciding on what kind of BBQ to have. We waited for the waitress to come back after she cleared some of our starter plates but she looked very busy clearing up and did not come back until the table of 4 got up and called her over for their bill. It was about 13:40 then and after sorting other table out we asked if we could order and she announces kitchen is closing at 2pm so we can’t order - i looked at watch it was 13:50 - I was about to tell her that the website and most places on internet for this restaurant shows open till 1430 but I could already see from her very frosty face that she just wanted us out early. Such a shame as the few items we had for starters was delicious and although we did say we were going to order more after starters we were not told about early kitchen closure. In the current climate where so many businesses are falling through with no customers with COVID I found the waitresses poor attitude and customer service very off putting and doubt that we will try the place again however nice the starters were.

Regularly order sushi from Soya and have never been disappointed. Always fresh and delicious. Great selection on the menu and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I had a takeaway. The food was nice, and I know that sushi is meant to be served at room temperature, but this was alarmingly warm. It made me ill. 24 hours later I am still not back to normal. They say you always know what got you, and for me it was the tepid sushi. I won’t be going back.

We tried Soya Woking for the first time last night for a takeaway. Great quality starters, we had Prawn tempura (so big!) and steamed chicken Mandu dumplings but we were disappointed with the Beef Dolsot Bibimbap as there was little to no beef in the dish! Literally little dustings of beef, when the dish describes it as having ‘strips of beef’. My partner was very disappointed but I enjoyed my Chicken Katsu Curry. We will try here again, but will avoid the Bibimbap dish.

Very disappointed with the sushi set. They sent a set that was full off fat. Called to complain and the lady on the phone was unhelpful and rude. Very disappointed with the customer service and terrible fish.

We really enjoyed our takeaway from Soya during lockdown. We had been craving sushi and my friend told me they did delivery (I think the fee was £6.50 for delivery to Merrow in Guildford) so we decided to go for it. We opted for one of the platters and also ordered the Korean fried chicken, crispy squid and miso. It was all delicious and whilst the sashimi / nigiri could have been a tad fresher, the rolls were great so we were happy with it overall and there was a good selection in the platter. But we were especially pleased with the crispy chicken and squid- it came fresh and hot, served with a spicy, sweet sauce and some seasoned salt which was really amped up the flavour. The miso soup was also good but I did have to pop it in the microwave quickly to heat it up before eating. We would definitely order again. Yes, it’s not the cheapest, but if you’re missing Korean/Japanese food and want the convenience of having it delivered straight to your door, then go for it!! Many thanks Soya Woking. We will try to visit the restaurant once you are open again!

Decided to get a takeaway from here; did not use Just Eat delivery. Drove to the restaurant and ordered ourselves. Waited in the car and promptly 20 minutes later (as advised) our food was brought out to us.This ensured our takeaway food was still warm on return to home, quality of the food is far superior to that of your other takeaways around.Plentiful portion size, Ordered Bibimap and King Prawn Udon Noodles and Salmon sushi selection. Felt like we had a feast.Defiantly will go again!!!!

**After several exchanges with Soya, they have now admitted they are under new management. Now I can understand why the steep contrast from my many previous dining experiences with Soya**In my first review of Soya, I gave them 5*. They used to have excellent service and greet us by name whenever we rang and be very personable whenever we visited in person. This last experience was a complete contrast to my previous experiences.These are my reasons why I am now giving Soya 1*:1) Dishes either too bland or too salty, flavours are no longer authentic. Sushi and Okonmiyaki lacked the unami taste the eel sauce would usually offer. Prawn rolls were bland even with the sauce provided. Kanpoongi extremely salty – needed lots of water and rice to down it! Also lots of lemon chunks in it, instead of chicken pieces – shock to the tastebuds and misleading!2) Skimping on ingredients - No sauce on England roll and very little mayo on the Okonomiyaki. The Okonomiyaki was also flat as a crepe! An authentic okonomiyaki is usually about 2cm thick! We also only got one prawn roll with only two tiny prawns in it as well. For that price, we can usually expect two rolls at others restaurants serving twice the amount of prawns. The worst example of skimping on ingredients was on the Oyster Stew which you’ll read about next.3) We purposely ordered the 'Oyster Stew' over the 'Seafood Stew'. We received what appeared to be the Seafood Stew (as there were mixed seafoods and we recognised it from a previous order). I informed them about this and they told me what I received was the Oyster Stew. They explained the Seafood Stew has no Oysters but the Oyster Stew has both mixed seafood and one oyster. The JustEat menu clearly called it 'Oyster Stew' with no mention of mixed seafoods. I said I only got one oyster in the stew and they said that was correct as oysters are expensive. Quite upset at this point, they agreed to give me an exchange for a stew with a few more Oysters. I gave them back the old stew. I opened the new stew and there was just two oysters, same veg, and less soup. They basically gave me the same stew but took out the mixed seafood. So very disappointed and what a waste of petrol and my money. I can buy a whole giant bag of frozen oysters for the same price! I can also buy two very delicious freshly made stews from the Korean supermarkets in New Malden for the same price too – and with much more content. I felt completely conned of my money. This was the worst of all the dishes and the biggest disappointment of all.4) Delivery guy was rude and unhelpful - he didn't believe we had our address right as he couldn't find us. He went down one street too and managed to get lost and very flustered. He kept telling me to come out to the main road to find him. In the current pandemic or not, I didn't think that was a very reasonable ask. He was not apologetic or even remotely embarrassed when he realised he completely missed our turning and how close he actually were to us at his initial location. I regret giving him a tip in my payment.We will not be giving Soya another chance unless their management changes again. They were not one bit apologetic to any one of these issues.

I ordered online early in the day for and evening delivery using JustEat, trying to support a local business during a difficult time. Delivery time arrives but no food. Turns out that the restaurant cancelled my order without telling me. When I rang, they said it was too far to deliver (2.3miles!). Truly shocking behaviour. Very discourteous. VERY un-Japanese. Haji o shire!

Had a lovely dinner here with friends recently. Great food, good prices and lovely staff too. Loved the offer of Korean food and Sushi too! Very yummy! A cosy, warming atmosphere. Would recommend!

As always the food was delicious, fresh and tasty, served quickly and with a smile. The portions, were also generous.

The menu is fascinating and has many things to choose from! The restaurant is decorated in authentic Korean/Japanese style making for a cultural experience.We tried several different styles of food, all were superb! All good value also! You can also have your food cooked at your table Korean style.The staff are wonderful and made us very comfortable.The Kimchi (pickled & chilly vegetables)is amazingly different from any other cuisine! This restaurant is highly recommended by us!

Had the kimchi stew which came with rice, was a generous portion but would have liked there to be more meat. My friend ordered kbbq which was pretty good too. Overall, an okay place to have an affordable meal but not the best place to have Korean food in Woking.

Went for lunch and wasn't disappointed. Great choice of dishes with various meat and vegetarian options. I'd highly recommend the bibimbap, but you'll need to be patient because the stone bowl retains heat for a long time - perfect for a cold day. Quite a small restaurant, but it adds to the atmosphere. Staff were friendly. I'll be coming back for sure!

It’s a small informal sort of place somewhat dwarfed as is everything else in this corner of Woking by the construction of a hotel so tall and vast you might be forgiven for wondering if you’re in downtown Manhattan. It’s half Korean and half Japanese. I was seated immediately next to a fan which was quite a bonus on such a hot day. At lunch in addition to a la carte there is a lunch menu on two sides of a perspex covered card essentially repeating the same bibimbaps, stews, ramen and sushi from the main menu but at reduced prices. On the back page I was tempted by a Japanese bento box featuring sushi and sashimi as well as chicken terriyaki. It was preceded by a miso soup and slices of sweet potato in batter. I followed it by a rather extraordinary mango sorbet which filled and spilt over the side of a halved mango from which most but not all of the fruit had been carved out. What began as a refreshing treat became something of a surgical excavation. But a mi or glitch in an otherwise quite superb lunch.

Went for dinner. Ordered tempura prawns and was served prawns that we're not deveined. Ordered a chicken katsu with udon noodles only to find a deep fried human hair incorporated to my chicken. I was advised that both the dishes would be taken off my bill as a courtesy. When I examined my final bill I noted that I was overcharged for 2 extra drinks. Hygiene standards questionable in this establishment. Even more hilarious is that the manager had the audacity to tell me that she had no idea what to do as she didn't cook the food. She also denied seeing the hair until someone confirmed it (note the hair was ingrained in the crumbed chicken and sticking out of it, not just lying on its surface for this reason it was beyond any doubt that it came from the kitchen).

Really great authentic food, wide range of both Sushi and Korean, very high quality, highly recommend

Visited Soya in June and the udon with chicken Katsura was delicious . I found the spicy seafood ramen a tad lacking in that umami taste . Perhaps I was expecting tastes somewhat akin to Wagamama’s spicy beef ramen soup noodles .

The meal was delicious and the service was very good. I would recommend this restaurant for something different. It a great casual dinning experience

We moved to Woking a few months back and have probably been to Soya 15 times and almost nowhere else! It's always great food and quick and friendly service, we go for a cheap lunch, or an exciting and tasty dinner. A broad range of food, most of which we have tried and all of which we enjoyed, also have a recently new menu with some welcome additions.

A small restaurant on the edge of Woking, simple cafe style decor but the Japanese and Korean food is excellent and reasonably priced. For wheelchair access, there is a small step and then an immediate turn into the restaurant which may be tight for large electric wheelchairs but not sure if they have an accessible loo, although I think it is unlikely, they were very accommodating with the wheelchair. On-street parking, we parked opposite on the double yellow line with my blue badge displayed. The staff are very pleasant and a mix of Japanese/Asian customers which is always a good sign that the food is authentic.

We go there at least twice a month, a hidden gem! Possibly the best restaurant in Woking. Bbq with Hite is delicious!

The food here is brilliant quality for a small restaurant, and is good value for money. portion sizes are good and customer service is decent - sometimes a little slow, but nothing concerning

This little treasure was recommended to us by friends. We went for my husband's birthday and received a warm welcome. Delicious food. Very fresh. You could grill your own food in the middle of the table if you wanted to. My husband did and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I love this restaurant, I am never disappointed with the service or food. It is a little small, so I always find it better to book.

The restaurant atmosphere was nice and friendly (Ventilation could be better though). Went with friends over the weekend and ordered both sushi and Korean BBQ. Sushi was good but nothing great. The BBQ was quite good but the seafood pancake was really average. The overall quality was ok. Prices were decent though.

We had an enjoyable lunch time meal at Soya. We ordered a selection of sushi and several dishes of meat for the BBQ between a group of 8. All of the food was delicious and thanks to the set platters are very good value for money (we all had a bit of sushi, some BBQ and a beer for £15). The staff were very welcoming and helpful during our visit. Will definitely be back!

I love this place, the food is delicious. We always have the barbecue which is fun to cook. I have to have a gluten free diet and the staff know exactly what I can have. We will keep coming back!

Been here a few times and the staff are always really friendly and happy. I normally go for either the katsu curry or the Korean BBQ, both of which I'd recommend.

Fast and easy, great food. Had the ribeye, tempura shrimp and sweet potatoes. It was all fine and nice.

We are very excited to try this restaurant. Especially after reading all the reviews. We tried some sushi, maki and sashimi. It was ok but were tasting almost all the same. The people were nice and smiley.

Soya's lunch menu represents great value for money, serving a "best of" selection of Korean and Japanese favourites. Outside of New Malden, it represents one of the better Korean food places but for Japanese food, there may be better places around (although it's still decent). A reliable and recommended place

We visited Soya for dinner and it was extremely good food. The service was very good and it was very reasonably priced. We would highly recommend Soya Woking.

The staff and owners as always friendly and informative offering advice on how much to order. Good choice of Japanese and Korean food at reasonable prices. The mixed platters offer a good choice of sushi and sashimi allowing you to try dishes. Enjoyed the visit

Visited here for dinner and the food and atmosphere were good but not great. The hosts and servers couldn't have been more friendly but the restaurant is showing signs of wear and although the food was tasty, it isn't comparable to eating at Bulgogi across town.

I’ve been here a few times now and I’ve not been disappointed ever! The food it so fresh and traditional, it really is amazing. Due to the Restaruant being quite small it’s Lovely for couples who want to relax in peace. My partner has never liked anything other than your typical fish n chip shop but he was amazed with the food here and we’ve been back three times now! It’s a must eat in Woking!! Highly recommend

We live locally and have been meaning to come here for a while. Very glad we finally did! Very friendly little place. Food is great and very reasonable. Portions are also a very good size. We really didn't need the starters... Delicious though they were. Will 100% revisit as the table next to us had some amazing looking sushi I'm keen to try.

Excellent restaurant which offers quality Korean and Japanese cuisine. Not too sure if it does Halal or Kosher, but the vegetarian options are sublime.

Reading the good reviews and loving Japanese food, we visited Soya for dinner. I'm a vegetarian and the waiter was extremely helpful and accommodating. He made some substitutions to the set bento box meals and gave me a delicious tofu alternative! Great find and very filling, would recommend to any lover of Japanese and Korean food.

Love this restaurant, we’ve eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The sushi is delicious and reasonably priced, the Korean BBQ is fab too. Tried the beef Bibimbap last night and it was delicious. Looking forward to our next visit.

A group of 5 of us visited Tues evening. We had little understanding of the dishes but they were all explained to us & for the spicey dishes we were asked how hot we wanted it to be. Tempura prawn starter was good. We were all so full after our main courses none of us could try a dessert. Korean beer was good 3.5% alcohol. Bar is well stocked. Prices are very reasonable. Service was very good & attentive. Deserves being highly rated for restaurants in the Woking area.

As a first timer I was extremely surprised by the quality of the food. Very fresh and very good marinated. The staff and owner where very friendly. Will come back when I am in the area again!

Luckily there are quite a few places that can tell you what on the menu is gluten free.

The sort of place you almost don’t want to tell other people about! Perfect hosting, awesome service...and yummy, well-proportioned food. Moved to Woking a year ago, can’t believe we’ve not tried it before.

First time visitors as a family this evening. Very simple layout, but also very inviting. The host & hostess were super friendly in a genuine way and happy to help us with the menu (not fully used to Korean food). The quality of the food was excellent and very reasonably priced; also some of the most tasty sushi I have had :-). Will absolutely come visit again and could easily become a family favourite. Next time we will try the BBQ :-)

This was our boys' first time having sushi in a restaurant and we were not disappointed. The staff were incredibly welcoming, the food was good (and the portion of noodles we got as a backup was huge). It's not a question of if we return,...

First time here and it was a very pleasurable experience and definitely, somewhere I will return. Not the most glamorous of environments and parking wasn't great but who cares about that when the food is soo good and you are in great company! Great service...

This was our first visit here so we didn't know what to expect. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday which is always a good sign. A lovely welcome and the staff were very helpful with our choice of dishes. We had sushi to start...

Highly recommend a visit to Soya. Food was excellent and service very friendly. Was busy but service was very attentive. If you opt for the Soya ramen, be warned it's huge! Everything we had was delicious.

My husband and I have visited this restaurant numerous times and it has never disappointed us. The food is fantastic, the portions are great and the price is good. The owners are very welcoming and all the staff are very polite. Nice atmosphere and always makes us feel relaxed! Definitely worth a visit!

I’ve been spoilt by some great Japanese food recently so I was very much looking forward to trying out Soya. Friendly atmosphere and a good start with tempura potato amuse bouche which tasted great.

Used this restaurant for the first time this week. Wow!. Fantastic food served fresh & plenty of it. The menu is deceiving. You get a lot more than the picture shows & it tastes great. Good service & served fast. Ideal for a lunch time visit.

Can't say I'm any expert on Japanese or Korean food but our meals here were delicious. We shared two vegetarian starters and then had one beef bibimbap and one tofu one which were both amazing. So tasty. Excellent friendly quick service. We will be back.

This is definitely one of our favourite restaurants in Woking. We have visited on numerous occasions and the welcome is always warm and friendly, without being intrusive.

I visit a few times a month - the food is amazing. Tasty, hot, fresh. Lots of dishes to choose from. Great friendly service. Couldn’t recommend enough. Reasonably priced. Always busy at the weekend.

Excellent korean food, nice staff, a lovely place for a family visit, our party had both a teenager and an infant and the staff was very helpful.

My wife is weird , she’s gluten intolerant. The first time we went there when we knew they were good and sorted it. The next time, when the knew from the previous time, they really could not have been better.

Little restaurant but very friendly and clean, the BBQ is great! And you cook the meat on your table!! Good portions and the owners are very kind and friendly! Honest price and you have a good selection of veg dishes as well!

We came here for dinner with my husband's parents between Christmas and New Years. The food (mostly sushi on this visit) was absolutely delicious, and staff were friendly and helpful. I'm excited to come back and try the Korean BBQ on our next visit!

Been going to Soya for 3 years now so about time I posted a review. I've eaten in, have a regular take-out and have had them cater for birthday parties and each time the food has been absolutely spot-on. The service and hospitality is great. Can't see how anyone can be disappointed here. I keep going back!

Popped in here for a bite to eat and left thoroughly pleased with my choice. Staff are very friendly and helpful, I’ve never eaten Korean before so I had no idea what to order. I had one of the set meals which consisted of sushi for starter and then a ‘one pot’ meal for main. Could have had a bit more meat in the main course but nevertheless it was a fabulous meal and I would definitely return. The Korean beer ‘Hite’ is also very nice.

This is my daughter's favourite restaurant - if we ever give her the choice of where to eat "Soya" is the first and only word our of her mouth. The food and service are simply excellent, and we always get a warm welcome - recommended to book as it is only small and is very popular.We usually start with some freshly prepare Sushi or Chilli Squid and then move on to the Korean BBQ that you cook at you table - this adds to the fun of the experience.Very high quality food, and whilst not cheap, will not break the bank either.If you want something just a little bit different, highly recommend you try Soya

Lovely food here, well worth crossing the town centre roadworks for. It's a shame it hasn't got a better location, but if you want a delicious noodle combination meal, try here.If I lived in Woking, I'd be a regular here.If you drive, there is a multi-storey nearby.Terrific value.

Stopped in when we were in town. I orded a variety of sushi. Was pleasantly surprised. The meal was fresh and fully enjoyed every bite. I decided to eat at home due to it being full and there was no place to sit where my wheelchair could fit.

Really tasty. We loved the sushi, dumplings and Katsu and the staff were really friendly. Reminded us of being back in Japan. Will definitely be back :)

Been coming for 2 years ... try and get in once every 8-10 weeks as live round the corner. Great service and even better food. Soya has got a really great thing happening and every time I've been there I just see smiling faces and people enjoying the "Eastern" typical dining of different dishes and flavours .. social eating.Grab some kimchi, a bottle of Asahi, and then get the Korean BBQ going on ... you'll love it. The only bad thing about this place is the owners keep challenging my Cantonese which is average at best!!!!Great place ... local and passionate owners ... exceptional food ( 4 beers / 2 starters / korean meat x2 BBQ / Bimbimap rice dish --- £55!!!!). Try something different and enjoy!!!

We always love going to Soya. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere warm and cozy. We always have the barbecue which in itself is fun to cook and is so satisfying. We always come out feeling good. Highly recommended!

I have been to visit this restaurant on 2 occasions now, both times for the Dragon roll sushi. Excellent, delicious & soo worth the price. The food is all freshly prepared by professional sushi chefs & really is good value for money. My other family who also dine here regularly can attest to their excellent quality. I will most certainly keep going back for the foreseeable future.

We visited here for the 2nd time last night and we were not disappointed. A lovely warm welcome from the host who is just lovely. Great staff, fantastic menu and equally consistent food again. This restaurant is a diamond in Woking. The food is plentiful, tasty, service quick and they are so helpful when browsing and trying to choose from the extensive menu. 1 of us had the Spicy Ramen soup again absolutely delicious. One of us the Set BBQ menu which was delicious and so generously portioned. The host recommends we try the sushi / sashimi which we will do next visit. My son who was with us last night has visited Seoul and said the food was as tasty as he remembered from his visit there. Thank you Soya for your exciting food we'll be back very soon.
