I’m not able to comment on food. It took at least 5 min to the waiter to realise we are there, he checked if we had booked the table, in the almost empty place, then we were given the menus and left us for 20min playing on his phone/ something went wrong with their order system and he obviously wasn’t able to write our order on a paper, didn’t give much attention to the other 2 tables either. The atmosphere was completely dead and didn’t wish to stay. My advice not to waste your time there most places seem to be happy to see customers walking in this is not one of them…

Amazing meal! Gyros is one of my favourite food while traveling Greece! The food is authentic, fresh and delicious. The price is reasonable too! So happy that we found this place not too far from our house!

We just ordered a takeaway from here this week, a Chicken souvalki pitta wrap and a chicken gyros wrap, and some tzatziki and pitta to share to start... And honestly, eating that pitta took me straight back to when I used to live and work in Greece!!I could not get enough... And they put in it some type of honey mustard mayo and it really makes it!!! Extremely tasty and no where near breaks the bank!Would definitely recommend for a gyros takeaway!

Ordered a takeaway yesterday and despite being incredibly busy the food was ready on time and handed over respecting all social distancing measures. The food itself was hot, fresh and delicious. I haven't eaten here for a while and that will be remedied as soon as we are let out again. Thank you.

Decided to try a different takeaway this evening and ordered from here and I’m so glad we did! Flavour was 10/10, couldn’t fault a thing about any of the dishes, the mousakas was amazing, chicken and pork gyros wrap was so soo delicious. Fried courgette so crispy. Such a welcoming and friendly staff. Great service. will defo order again. Highly recommended.

Too much mayonnaise (salad cream?) In the gyros, spanakopita was very greasy/oily. Largely overpriced.

We had a wonderful warm welcome in Souvlaki City today. The food and drinks were delicious and service was excellent. The menu is very varied with lots of vegetarian choices for me. I had a very filling Cretan dakos dish followed by gemista (stuffed tomato and pepper) served with tzatziki and a side salad, and my husband had the beetroot salad with Greek pita bread followed by pork souvlaki served with chips, tzatziki , salad and pita. All very tasty and authentic. To drink we had Fix beer followed by an amazing pale pink Greek wine called Makedonikos Xinomavro - such a lovely flavour and highly recommended. We even had some little extra treats today on the house! For anyone concerned, they have hand sanitiser on every table and the person who served us was wearing a mask. On a rainy afternoon it was a delight to feel as though we had been transported to Greece!

Ordered 2 double chicken pitta it was was distasteful and expensive for what it was. No flavour whatsoever it seemed like a half hearted attempt

We loved this place when it opened. Great food and service and value for money. We’ve noticed prices increasing and service going down hill. The man can be rude and abrupt. He Got our order wrong and forgot items. Served feta swimming in oil which was horrible. They have also swapped the elk sausage for a regular sausage but charging the same price. Children running around the restaurant and unwelcoming atmosphere. Shame.

Open only for take away service but as I snuck in the back door asked if I could eat in a dark corner so ordered meal and an alcohol free beer and had a tasty meal plus another to take home to freeze7

Souvlaki City was the perfect backdrop for a catch-up with friends.After some delicious starters (we shared deep fried courgette, tirokroketes, spanakopita pie) washed down with a Mythos we moved onto a meat mixed grill and a sausage dish from the specials board.Friendly service and a brilliant atmosphere made for a fantastic Friday night

First time visit, was recommended by my son, food was great, service was brilliant and will most certainly go again. If you like Greek food in an informal environment then go, you will not be disappointed and the food speaks for itself.

Love this place. Been here 4 times and always enjoyed the food. The mixed platter is great for even 3 people. Atmosphere is fantastic and it feels very cosy. Can’t wait to go again.

It's so nice to see a Greek restaurant that serves proper Greek street food. Not the compulsory dishes that every restaurant in the UK serves.The pork gyros is amazing.Weirdly enough no souvlaki with chips on the menu, though that's the name of the place. You get them in the mixed grill but you need to show up with a dozen people to finish it, it's so much.

Good prices, good service but bad food. Chicken was very dry and tasteless, and the saganaki was like eating the sole of my shoe.

This horrible restaurant has been dumping its waste illegally in St Albans. I’m outraged. This is our community. We do not support you.

Strange and disappointing menu. The only Greek restaurant I`ve ever been to that doesn`t serve such classic Greek dishes as Stifado, Kleftico,or calamari (or any other seafood). Service friendly, but of our group of nine friends and family two were not brought the drinks we`d ordered,

The restaurant was busy on the Saturday night we visited and has clearly become a popular local spot since opening earlier in the year. The starters we chose were the best part of the meal, particularly the deep fried courgette dish. The main 'plates' are rather formulaic comprising grilled meat of some kind but all served with the same pitta and chips which make up the bulk of the dish. The feel is more fast food than restaurant. There is no fish or seafood of any description. The Greek wine was quite good and the service friendly and efficient. I would actually rate the restaurant as 'good' if tripavisor had a category for it .

Four of us went to this Greek Restaurant and although the decor was really nice and the Service was excellent there were a few things lacking.On looking at the menu I was suprised that there was no fish at all not even calamari or prawns. There was also no Haloumi Cheese. I thought this was standard for Greek Restaurants. The food that we ate was good and well cooked and the prices were sensible, I had to eat

Well. How lucky are we to have this excellent restaurant within a short walk of home. Attentive and friendly service, excellent food and favourable prices. What more could you want. Already our new ‘go to’ eatery. Long may it last - it certainly deserves to.

Had a quick bite here with a friend during the week.Staff very friendly. Greek beer in chilled glass and the ingredients of the food were exactly like what you get back in Greece.Opted for a simple pork gyros (I know but I fancied it) and it was delicious.Will be back for a larger meal next time.

This lovely little restaurant in Fleetville has a warm friendly vibe with very good service. The food is basic but well presented and quite expensive for what it is £11.95 for main course but tasty. The chicken kalemaki and chicken gyros both came with generous portions of chicken, pitta and chips and a small salad. It was very heavily salted as much Mediterranean food often is. A lovely meal but quite pricey.

We are regular customers here, the service and food is always to a high standard. The servers are always very friendly and accommodating. The gyros at 5 pounds is a bargain and perfect for a quick bite or lunch. The sauces are a must have, fresh tzatziki, home made chill and mustard sauces are to die for, we are never left hungry or disappointed.

There were three of us attending for dinner. We are all experienced in Greek cuisine. Two of us ordered fried courgette and beetroot salad. They couldn't provide a suitable starter for me because I cannot eat gluten and I hate beetroot. I would have ordered humous but they couldn't provide anything gluten free to dip into it. Main courses we ordered lamb chops for £14.95. (Marinated in our secret recipe sauce, three grilled lamb chops, served with tomato & onion salad and homemade tzatziki sauce.). I got three scraggy thin bits of lamb over-cooked, no evidence of marinading; tomato and onion salad consisted of half a tomato, two slices of cucumber and limp leaves like they were tipped out of a supermarket bag. The tzatziki sauce was about 10mL sauce in a plastic tray. We ordered Pork Brizolakia for £14.95 (Marinated in our secret recipe sauce, grilled pork cutlets, served with homemade yogurt sauce, salad or mixed vegetables and a slice of lemon) we got scraggy thin over-cooked pork pieces and the same limp leaves. There was no substance in the meals so we asked for, and got charged for, a handful of chips. One of us ordered Chicken Kalamaki for £11.55 (Three freshly grilled marinated chicken breast skewers served with mini pita breads, homemade mayonnaise & mustard sauce, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, paprika and chips). These were chicken shaped into perfectly cubes and cooked on a skewer. This was by far the most substantial dish of the ones we received. We had desserts and a Greek coffee. The Greek coffee was returned as it did not resemble Greek coffee as we knew it. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. They seemed to be mainly serving "Gyros" meals which looked exactly like donner kebab, and those ordering this got a plate stacked up with donner kebab and chips. It was a Saturday night and they were less than half full with many staff on duty. Maybe they should rename it Gyros City and not Souvlaki City, as they didn't have any Souvlaki on the menu.

Popped in on a Saturday evening without a booking and fortunately they managed to squeeze us in. Recommend booking in advance at the weekend. Food and staff were fantastic, great atmosphere, superb hospitality and excellent value.

Went to Souvlaki City whilst in St Albans whilst visiting friends 26th July 2019.I've been to a couple of Greek restaurants in the UK as well as visiting several Greek islands. I'm a big fan of Greek food & hospitality. Souvlaki city is just awesome. The food / drink & service was just fantastic.Quite a small restaurant / cafe bar so booking advisable but everything is just so good.Being a vegetarian the menu is quite vast. Personally I had the hummus to start followed by the vegetarian mousakka & baklava for dessert all washed down with 3 bottles of authentic Greek Retsina between 2 of us!!!I will DEFINITELY book here again when we visit St Albans again in a few months time.

We came this evening as I was really craving some gyros! We ended up ordering a platter as it was our first time there and we wanted to try all the meat. We weren’t disappointed as everything tasted so fresh and delicious, we even had to take the rest home as the platter was big for the two of us which was great and worth the money. The lady who served us was really lovely and helpful! Would defo come back again and recommend to everyone!

Smart new restaurant, very family orientated, busy even at 6 p.m last Saturday with a buzzy atmosphere. The staff were all friendly & welcoming, the service was reasonably speedy and the food was very tasty with good-size portions And we were pleased that on the hottest day (so far) this summer they do have some air-con, though our ice-creams melted very quickly.

Really good prices and the staff is really friendly as well! Will definitely going again as I’ve been there multiple times.

We ordered four takeaway meals and they were absolutely superb. So much flavour and taste. Next time we’re going to sit in the restaurant.

Just got to write a review. This is our 3rd visit to Souvlaki City and got to say that once again, had a great evening. The wonderful friendly service from all the staff continues (the bar person even remembered what we drank - very impressed. The fantastic food is still right up the top and the level of choice/taste/cooking is phenominal. How they strive to deliver this wonderful service and high quality food is a tribute to all their hard work. Cannot fault anything. Shows they care.They are even undertaking to open up an outside seating space. Can't wait for this.Well, well worth a visit. You will not be disappointed. Book a table reservation.

Having visited many Greek islands the food and service here was better than some I have eaten at in Greece. The staff very friendly and food very fresh and Mythos beer just to top it off would highly recommend a visit here.

Went here with a group of four. They were very happy with their marinated barbecued chicken, huge portions. I held off and went for a pudding, the baklava was superb. The menu is limited at present as they need to revamp the kitchen before they an cook fish, but hope to offer this in July, It does have a licence and reasonable drinks list, I liked the non-alcoholic cocktails too.The waitress was very friendly and helpful, will definitely come back.

Went in for quick bite with my husband and was pleasantly surprised with excellent choice. Fresh food, delicious, good choice for any meal! Feta cheese served baked... you have to try this. Staff was friendly, welcoming and made the experience really nice. We will return soon for an evening meal most likely.

This is the best Greek food I had anywhere north of London! The three times we went everything was always fresh, prepared with care and super tasty. The bifteki pitta and the baklava rock!

Ordered a chicken kebab & the meat was curled up & burnt, rated like it been there all day under the counter, been at work all day and you just want to pay for nice food, when I rung up to complain I was told to bring it back so they could analyse it.

This is a relatively new restaurant in Saint Albans. We found it very good value. We dined in the evening on a busy Friday night. The service was impeccable with charming wait staff.We shared a meat platter - extraordinarily generous beyond our capacity to do it justice.The food was delicious and advice about the wine helpful and it turned out excellent advice.Thoroughly recommended.

Heard rave reviews about this restaurant from a work colleague who lives close by so 11 of us decided to make it our destination for a long overdue out of hours catch up. I ordered the cheese pie to start followed by lamb chops. The pie was tasty but dry, needed some honey drizzled over or something, even a bit of salad but it was just a generous lump of dry pie, lamb chops fine but nothing special I am afraid. The meal was a bit underwhelming, maybe it was just me, I am a regular visitor to Greece so possibly I was comparing it to how things taste there. My friend ordered the Greek pitta that is photographed on the web site looking bulging with filling and fries, her pitta had two chips in it. She said it was tasty enough but not what it said on the tin. Toilet is shared, unfortunately when I chose to go seat was up and dribbled pee everywhere and no loo paper. Staff pleasant and friendly.

This is the best Greek food I have had in London and around areas. The staff is very friendly and the service is excellent. Do not forget to try the cherry cheesecake.

Omg this restaurant it’s just amazing- I am totally in love in this small cozy restaurant, the food it’s delicious, if you are a cofee lover - definitely u ll get tasty espresso or cold - freddo cappuccino- very nice friendly stuff and handsome Vasil in the bar making the best cocktails in the town, definitely I ll be back - highly recommend ❤️

Visited last night wanted to try it since it opened as we are local. Wasnt disappointed the food and service was really good and seeing Greek people in there to tells you how good it is . The prices are really good to ,5.75 for a pint maybe a bit much but guess same as most restaurants nowadays . Would love Mythos on draught instead of an Italian beer . Saying that wont hesitate to come back again and again .

Mixed Grill was to die for. As was baklava and beef burger! Loved my Fix Greek beer and some special drinks recommended by the owner. Very polite staff! Great location. We will come back for sure.

Very very basic. For a typical souvlaki restaurant there should be an abundance of well cooked meat and fish. Really shocked to see no fish whatsoever on the menu! My partner and I ordered the meat platter for 2. The meat was dry, chewy and very underwhelming. It was borderline a ‘fast food’ kind of place. What a shame.

Let's be honest here. If not the best surely one of the best authentic Greek restaurant I've been with great Greek atmosphere the food was delicious and fresh. The service was fast and polite. The music was incredible. Overall this restaurant traveled me back to my country with food that reminded me of my youth and the food my mom and my father used to cook, the place was clean and tidy from the WC to the tables. Can't wait to visit again this warm and very familiar restaurant that reminds me that when you are hungry and in seek of hospitality this place is the best place to go. Congratulations guys.

We popped in here on the off chance as we were walking past. It was really busy but they made room for us. Great for fussy kids, quick service, good food. Kids portion was really big! Might be good to offer a smaller appetite portion too but we took it home so all good. All in all a lovely lunch.

To start with the food... excellent and very original Greek tastes! They seem to have thought of the menu and their ingredients very carefully. We have visited few times and every time the service is top rated as they are friendly and very polite. The atmosphere feels very cosy, it's a place you feel staying for some time. I strongly recommend it for anyone that loves Greek food, or wants to try it as something new.

Visited last night with with my girlfriend, amazing atmosphere with subtle greek music playing on speakers! We were greeted by a smiling young lady who showed us to our table and a friendly chap who took our order. Our food was served fairly soon, there weren't any delays even though the place was full. We had pork skepasti, chicken filet along with greek salad and baklava for dessert, all where delicious and tasteful! Highly recommend this place, decent value for money!

Visited this restaurant with the family to try out. Firstly our mistake, assuming that there would be fish on the menu, no there isn’t. As we are non-meat eating the vegetarian alternatives were limited. However, we assumed they would be of decent quality, wrong again. The spinach and feta pastry starter was burnt, the beetroot salad tasted weird, not as you would expect. The hummus was ok. We had ordered mint tea which was a large tumbler of boiling water with a couple of sprigs of mint. We had to eat the leaves to get any flavour. Then onto the mains, stuffed peppers, these were almost certainly frozen or old. The peppers flesh was crepey like the skin of a pensioner and the rice inside was just mush. Same consistency as porridge and like eating papier-mâché. Throughout the entire meal the music was insanely loud. I understand that they are trying to give some authenticity to the heritage but I’m sure this could be done without drowning out any possibility of a conversation without shouting. We waited a long time for the table to be cleared, our once attentive waitress seemed to be replaced by a bearded chap who was engulfed in chatting with his friends. In the end we asked the chef for the bill as the waiter never showed. We always try to support new restaurants but won’t be returning to this one, shame as it could’ve been a regular.

The food was delicious and it came fast. The service was also very good and the staff was friendly. Very good value for money and they also do take away. Highly recommended.

First let me say that we may have been unfortunate as the place is often very full and I guess relies to a fair degree on local and repeat business. So many people see it as being very good.We arrived having booked, and were completely ignored even though the place had only one table occupied. Two members of staff saw us but gave their attention to trying to level a table with bits of cardboard whilst we were left standing around, not knowing where to sit. It was a dismal start. We ordered wine and the wrong wine arrived.The food itself was nice and so we may have been unfortunate.

Visited this restaurant with family. The restaurant was very busy and had a great atmosphere (was very loud, sometimes hard to hear). Food was very tasty and lots to choose from. My only criticism is that we order dips as a starter and nothing came with them, had to order bread separately which is slightly ridiculous. Would visit again!

As a man with a big appetite, I find going to a new restaurant can often be a frustrating experience- will I order enough to avoid having a snack when I get home? No such worries here. Large portions, great service and good food. Will be back!

Stopped in for a quick lunch. 2 coffees, 2 chicken breasts, and less than a bag of mixed leaf salad between us cost £33. The chicken was pan fried, not under a grill as I would expect from a specialist grill restaurant, and therefore took twenty minutes to turn up when there were only 2 other tables being served. The proprietor was aware that we were hoping to leave quickly but nonetheless carried out several other tasks before bringing the bill. I’ll cook at home or go to The Med Grill next time. I hoped this would be a good local but sadly not.

Just what St.Albans needed, a fantastic authentic Greek restaurant. The food is to die for and the best I’ve eaten outside of Greece! Just love the Cretan Dakos and Chicken Skepasti and don’t get me started on the delicious cocktails! Give it a go, you won’t regret it.

I had a wonderful meal here with my husband and we were very pleased to see Fix beer and Robola wine from Kefalonia. . The food is authentic and I had a mushroom starter, gemista with fries sprinkled with oregano, followed by baklava and ice cream. Friendly owner and staff. It was just like being in Greece in a modern taverna.

Hubby and I fancied popping out for a bite to eat tonight and thought we’d try this place as it looked very appealing (and busy) when we passed by at the weekend. We had the mixed grill which was utterly delicious along with an aubergine dish from the starter menu. Lovely restaurant with fab food and friendly, smiley staff - we’ll definitely be back!

We visited the restaurant with a few friends and we had an amazing experience. The service was excellent, with Altin and Joanna being very friendly and fast. The food was the tastier Greek I have had in the UK. Their chops, mezes and pita giro were delicious and having bakllava with ice cream for desert was the highlight of the evening.Highly recommended for dinners or events.

Visited this week and very much enjoyed the food, friendly staff (very warm family feel) and all very reasonably priced, so in my book they are onto a winner and well worth a visit. Unlike the other Hatfield Rd Grill Restaurants of various nationalities in Souvlaki City you can get a drink, which was nice for a night out, I thought the wine looked a bit pricey for this kind of casual restaurant. We had the mixed meat platter shared between two of us £28, which was more than plenty and very tasty, this comes with two very small pots of sauce which was not enough for two, however they were pleased to give us more.Before visiting I asked a friend who had eaten here what he thought of it, he said the following "food was good but they need to make up their mind if they are a takeaway or a sit down restaurant". Unfortunately our table was right next to the door, so his review was spot on, there was a steady stream of takeaway punters so the door kept opening and the wind was blowing cold - not great, however in fairness to the staff they allowed us to move when another table came free and we were happy. I guess the takeaway business also helps subsidise the overall business and keeps the prices down and ultimately the longevity of the business. Would I go again - YES most definitely!

Booked a table here but when we turned up (on time) they hadn’t kept a table for us! Keeping tables for those who book them is pretty fundamental to running a restaurant.

Recently opened after months of transformation from a previous restaurant. The weekend was packed so had to be turned away (Book in advance for weekends) so went midweek with friends.Plenty of menu options all sounding fantastic. Chicken Skepasti was delicious and came in good time. Good staff, welcoming and offered us a shot on leaving which was a nice touch. Will be going back again! Especially to try the other menu choices.

I was yesterday evening to this beautiful Greek restaurant that we were so eager to open. The atmosphere was friendly, decor was Incredible, the staff very polite and helpful. As for the food, I really did not get better again !! I had the dish poikilia of chicken gyros and some appetizers, tirokroketes, tzatziki, homemade sauce.wow really I haven't words to describe how juicy and delicious the meat was. I went tonight at this little cosy restaurant for a dinner and I had chicken chops with salad. Food was amazing, staff very friendly. 100% recommend. Definitely I will go back

Travelled upto Family for a visit. They had heard that The Souvlaki City - St Albans was just open and made a booking for Saturday evening.WOW it was amazing. Where do I actually start???Their menu has something for everyone.. Really great choice of great Greek food. Beautifully cooked and so so tasty. I can actually say I was spoilt for choice, as I am a very fussy eater.Honestly, I don't know what I would recommend as we had a cross section of choices between us from the menu and all had a taste of each others.The olives were so moreish. The oregano chips and sea salt were so light and fluffy. The sharing Meat Mix Grill was simply perfection. The Greek pitta bread and homemade mustard sauce were to die for. Saganaki and Tirokroketes cheese dishes were pure joy. Then the ice cream and sorbet were so so tasty and a perfect finsih to our meal.The restaurant was busy and I would strongly adivse you book.The chairs were so comfortable to sit on and were quirky, stylish and unique.The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Even advising us to try the Pink Lemonade, rather than just a plain lemonade. We went with their suggestion - oh boy it was great.I did get someones name - it was Altin (hope it is spelt correctly) and his wife - but got to say all were superb.So a big thank you to you all for making our evening so enjoyable and for us having a wonderful experience.Seriously, we will be returning.

I collected takeaway from Souvlaki City this evening having rung in my order 20 minutes beforehand. The staff were warm and friendly and although I obviously didn’t hang around long, the premises are impressive - clean and welcoming. The food is first-class and really just like being in Greece! Good quality, decent portions, well-seasoned and they have made the effort to source authentic produce. It’s a bit of a trek for us to collect so hoping they will begin to deliver soon but in the meantime, definitely worth the journey.

I popped into a restaurant that has been shrouded for months being created and it was definitely worth the wait, only opened 23Rd janIt’s been packed since opening so I popped in for a Sunday coffee to see what it’s like inside,Great coffee and although it was busy they owners made me feel welcome and found me a seat, I then saw the open kitchen and delicious smells emanating from within and lots of meat and kebabs and grilling... So got meself a takeaway- infused warm Pitta with herbs and pork kebab meat, salad and a refreshing tzaiki dip given complimentary Very very good- got so many dishes in menu I want to try reckon this is gonna become my regular thanks Souvlaki

Great place with delicious food, warm environment and amazing staff. Would recommend it for anyone that wants to taste real greek traditional dishes.

I've watched the progress of this restaurant and antipated it's opening, tonight did not disappoint. Really good food, just as I'd expect if I was in Greece. Great souvlaki, authentic food, pittas, salad and baklava. All great, we couldn't fault a thing

Souvlaki City best in townI really enjoy that evening out with my family, we done the best choice ever!Food is at the top range, prices are modest, for every pocket, clean and tidy,athmosphere was nice, ambiental music, really warm welcome from every single person from the staff, very polite!I do recommend this as the best greek restaurant in st albans!

We were here last night for the grand opening , we really enjoyed our meals .Everything was great , starting with a warm welcoming from the waiter and continuing in a very professional way through the night . The place was packed by the time we ordered our meals and we were well surprised when our food arrived , we found in our plates the real taste of greek food .Well done guys and thank you very much for such a lovely evening
