Little Marrakech in St Albans

While the food is delicious and we have been here when it’s not busy, we regret going on a busy evening like tonight. We were seated basically in the walk way and on top of people’s head, eventually felt too overwhelmed so decided to leave. When we explained that we didn’t really like our seating and will come back another time, not even an apology was issued just a “ok” and shrugged up of. The obvious fact that they tried their best to squeeze us in rather than explaining they are fully booked and seat us somewhere better for our comfort…

We had lunch and the food was fresh and good. I told them I was gluten intolerant, and they reassured me they would pay attention. And they did. Great potato chips, fried in a dedicated fryer

A little gem. The food was really good, I had the lamb tagine, and the Moroccan salad. I have to eat gluten free, and they kept me safe.

Food very tasty, ridiculously hot

The food in little marrakech is exquisite, beautifully prepared and presented a real treat.

Amazing restaurant and food. Not cheap - but you get what you pay for. Very busy on a Saturday evening - don't be in a hurry, things take time.

The WORST service EVER! The food is mediocre at its best. Only go there if you are willing to wait for half an hour before you're even GIVEN A MENU. The food is so so so not worth the wait and is bland and has no flavouring. Definitely not traditional morrocan flavourings, no proper spices. Just super oil peppers and onions I'm everything. You also have to wait another half hour for the bill. Not for kids neither. Unless chips is all they will be having!

We were recommended this restaurant by friends and was passing by today so called in for dinner. The food was amazing and service was of the highest standard. All the ingredients were fresh and the whole dining experience was one of the nicest we have been to recommend the chicken and the meat ball tegine. .

Shared a lovely meal for 2 to celebrate anniversary, varied menu, reasonably priced and great tasting food. We have enjoyed several meals here previously and would recommend a visit to anyone.

Eat here regularly, found the food to always be of a high standard, with friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.

Excellent food had Moroccan salad for starter followed by beef tangine with couscous piping hot tender beef melted on the plate decided to add glass red wine very generous serving. Efficient waitress charming and quick to respond.... another visit due soon.

Simply the BEST restaurant in town. Fresh and delicious. It's our go-to whenever we're in St Albans. On sunny days, sometimes we get the wraps as a takeaway and have them in the park.

This restaurant is quite small and cosy, if it is busy then one might have to wait for a table. It has a selection of dishes for its lunchtime menu including sandwiches. We ordered 2 dishes which were quite tasty.

We had lunch here on Saturday I had falafel as starter it was very dry and not fresh I didn't finish it I don't recommend it. But I had lamb for main dish, and my friend had Berber,main courses were great, the waiters was very kind and lovely.she brought me a salad instead of falafel, even though I didn't order, and she didn't charge me for the service and drink to keep me happy, she looked after us! I will be back because of nice food and great service

Lovely welcoming relaxed atmosphere with delicious food. I am not used to Moroccan food so this was a new experience with loads of interesting things on the menu. We really enjoyed the mushrooms and goats cheese starter, the lamb shank was rich and succulent and brought sizzling to the table in a tagine. They bring out a sample desert platter so that you can see what the puddings look like and we had the pear and almond tart. One of the best tarts I’ve had! I would highly recommend going there and will be visiting again to try some other things on the menu next time I’m in St Albans.

Lovely restaurant terrible staff. We were greeted (!) by a lady with a long dark platt and an equally long face who didn't seem to want us there. When we got a seat she was surly and miserable. To the fact that one of our friends actually thought she was rude to her because she asked about Gluten in the meal she chose. The waitress didn't seem to understand the importance of gluten free. Her attitude continued throughout the meal - shame as the food was excellent. Everything we ordered was really well spiced and delicious. Then she had the cheek to charge us for her service.... what service. I would go again but I would refuse to be served by her she slightly ruined what was a good meal with friends.

This little Moroccan restaurant puts you in the desert. Their hummus is very delicious as well as all dishes we ordered.

Amazing, cosy place with Marrakesh atmosphere. The menu is great, the portions are huge. And this place is always full of customers, what means that the place is very popular! The service is great, quick and stuff' s advice is very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place!

Not great , service was ok but food was bland lacking in warming spice’s especially Lamb tagine which was laden with peas and not chickpeas . Sauce was bland and watery. Not true Moroccan flavours

Booked quite late on a Friday. Wonderful welcome from front of house, service friendly and efficient, the food was great, had prawns followed by kefta tagine, wife loved her scallops starter and mendoubia tagine. Good size portions and not too pricey. Nice atmosphere and interesting decor that is different to any other place I have been. A really nice evening and would recommend people to try it.

Popped in hear ahead of a show at the Alban Arena, we were early so we had a pick of tables. The waiter was super friendly and helped us with the menu . Shared Mezze to start and then Chicken Tagine and Lamb couscous for main. It was all very delicious, super fresh and great size portions , a great little place, go try it!

Unfortunately, have to say, food was all cooked from frozen, falafels kot fresh again frozen cooked, no flavour at all, highly disappointed and would not recommend. Im used to travelling different countries and love new flavours, this was bland and horrid

This place had decent food and the atmosphere was nice. It's a little overdone with the decor, but has its own family run charm. We came with a baby so they sat three of us at a huge table at the back. This table probably could have fit 10 people haha. But it was fine. We had soup and calamari for starters. The soup was tasty with Moroccan bread to dip. For mains, my friend had a filo pastry vegetable dish (sorry I've forgotten the name!) which looked great. Then my husband and I shared a lamb shank tagine, which was the perfect portion for the two of us and very tender. The tagine included some potatoes, green peas and carrots and you are also offered a side of chips, cous cous or rice. Overall good authentic food for a casual lunch or dinner.

Recently l had lunch here and the food was excellent! I would highly recommend the vegetable tagine/mint tea.

This place is an absolute gem, I can't fault it. The staff welcomed us with such warmth and made sure we felt right at home from the get-go. The traditional Moroccan decor was stunning, and oh, the food! I chose the poussin tagine stuffed with fluffy couscous, I couldn't get enough. I could tell they put so much love and care into every bite. It's a culinary journey you don't want to miss out on!

I visited Little Marrakesh on Mother’s Day with my family, it was nice enough but I’m not sure I’d visit again. The restaurant itself is very small so on a number of occasions I felt like the table next to me or behind me were listening to our conversation as they were in such close proximity and on occasion got some looks from the gentleman on the table next to us (I’d like to add that there were 4 of us and we weren’t loud at all.) For starter we had hummus, smoked salmon and the halloumi salad which we all really enjoyed. Definitely not enough bread to go with the hummus but I find this is the case in most restaurants on dishes that require bread as they want you to pay for another portion. For mains we had the meatball tagine and I had the beef tagine which was a special on the day. I was really disappointed by the beef tagine. It was served on vegetables and potatoes which was fine and the 3/4 large chunks of beef were cooked perfectly but it lacked flavour. I’ve had Moroccan a couple of times before and they were always bursting with herbs and spices and a really great sauce but unfortunately this had neither. The sauce was very oily, in fact it felt like about 90% oil and very little else. The service was good and the pricing was very affordable, it cost about £140 for 4 people (although we didn’t have any alcoholic drinks) but these are not strong enough reasons for me to return again I’m afraid.

We’ve not been to Little Marrakesh for a few years. I was so disappointed at the quality of the food. The service was excellent. It was reasonable. I had a fish dish and the portion was TINY! The main course was so hot when it arrived we couldn’t eat it for ages. I left feeling disappointed.

Been here 3 times during the day now. Once alone and twice with hubby. I can't fault it. I'm veggie and there's plenty of choice. My husband had lamb tagine this time and loved it. Every meal has been first class Best wraps and sandwiches too. Lovely staff. Will be back when in St. Albans.

food is okayish priced, didn't particularly like my dish but trying my girlfriend's one was absolutely delicious, mine wasn't bad just not to my taste, the meats are cooked and seasoned beautifully and definitely do try the camembert, it was delectable, and waiting time was very good especially considering there was just 1 waiter in the whole restaurant

I came here 4 years ago and haven't been back, but last November I went 2 times and it was great. The food was hot, delicious, inexpensive, and there was only one waitress. But she's effective. And did a good job, definitely I will become a regular customer here.

The little Marrakech Moroccan restaurant is in the Market place of St Albans just opposite the old town hall (now a museum ) They do a lunchtime set menu also on Sundays ( £14.95 ) so we called in to try. It is little inside hence the name nice decor and atmosphere with pleasant staff. Service and food came prompt , the camembert starter was a delight and the main dish also. Our first time visit we will be back.

Great little place as the title suggests. Intimate with a Moroccan atmosphere. Owner and host provide a family welcome. Food is great, with the tagines ample in flavour and size. Day and evening menu's vary...so my next stop will be for an evening experience.

Second visit to Little Maracech and didn't disappoint. Fantastic atmosphere, service and food. I had Trio Grill Mezze an absolute meat feast. My partner had Sultan Kadra a lamb dish where the meat literally fell off the bone. If you're not a meat eater then there are plenty of vegetarian meals. If you haven't been yet you need to go!

Great little place, not too expensive and the food is delicious! The only slight negative being that the steak in the trio grill was well done as opposed to us being asked how it was to be cooked, but that certainly didn't spoil the meal.

Like the previous reviewer I was also here for my, and my friend's, birthdays. The decor is attractive - but not matched by the food, which is bland , boring and plain. They did not have our chosen wine on the menu and the waiter suggested a substitute which was also bland and extremely disappointing.

Cannot fault it at all, superb food and help from the stafg choosing from the excellent menu.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years and thought my birthday meal with my family would be a great opportunity. However we were all so disappointed. I have never eaten such bland Moroccan food. The meze starter was a pile of cold tasteless potato carrot and beetroot. The monkfish tagline was tasty but the meat taglines were completely tasteless. An expensive tasteless meal

What a hidden jem. My wife went with some friends for lunch whilst shopping in St.Albans and said I would love it she obviously knows me well. Loved it. The decor, the service and above all the food. We will definitely return.😎

Incredible food, incredible service and incredible atmosphere. This was some of the best Moroccan food we have ever had (and we visited Morocco a few months ago!) we will definitely be returning with our friends, we had an absolutely incredible evening and thank you to the wonderful servers and chefs there! Very much enjoyed the traditional mint tea and one of the best restaurants in St Albans!

Wow what a great little find. Been wanting to pop in here for lunch for a while and only wish had sooner. The food was absolutely amazing and the owner was super friendly. We had the set lunch menu!!! A starter, main and very nice house glass of red all for £19.99. Thanks for serving us delicious food, we will definitely be back.

What a great little restaurant tucked away on St Albans high Street. Services was spot on and the food was fantastic. Will be returning for an evening meal and to try the Tagines which the table next to us had.

Delicious authentic Moroccan food

My wife and I just had a meal here with two friends. Everything was excellent start to finish. The ambience and decor of the restaurant, the service which was attentive but not intrusive and of course the food which was absolutely magnificent. Will visit again when we’re next in the area.

I had a trio of samosas with mango chutney to start, and the monkfish tagine with cous cous for main - plus some of my husband's chips which were delicious. The food was presented so well and tasted divine. The restaurant looks narrow and long from the outside, but when you go in it feels very spacious and has a lovely atmosphere. Great service and outstanding food. I'd love to go back to this gem of a restaurant.

This spot is great for lunch. I had the set menu. Merguez sausage starter followed by a lamb tagine with cous cous. Great flavour washed down with a Casablanca beer. My wife had a pancake with a glass of white wine. Great ambience brilliant staff reasonable prices highly recommend.

The food was amazing, I have eaten at a Berber home in Morocco and this reminded so much of that. The waiter was friendly and gave us good advice with the food, like, you are ordering too much, we can bring more rice if you need, and he was right!

I have been in this restaurant a couple of times and I loved it! The dishes are lovely and very unique flavours that you would not find in any other place. Well done guys thank you very much for bringing this type of food into St Albans! Just to note that they only accept cash, so just make sure you have enough money with you.
