Southway Chinese Takeaway in Plymouth

This is my go to Chinese. Ive never had a problem. The food always comes hot and taste perfect

Simply the best Chinese around , staff are great and the 34c is incredible

Food always tastes good but the prices have slowly been rising over the past few years which is understandable but still annoying.

First & last time I will order from there , it was disgusting & went in the bin

Very tasty with good prices. Quick delivery and courtesy phone call by driver prior to delivery. Highly recommended. Will return.

After reading reviews thought I'd give it a go. How wrong was I, very greasy, special fried rice like I've never had before. Small amount of rice with meat & veg place on top🥴. Chow mein just as bad, it was all not very nice. Had dishes for 3 people £70 completely wasted. Will not be returning that's for sure.

I feel let down and extremely disappointed with the food I received from Southway Chinese take away. Everything we ordered was unedible and ended up in the bin. Money wasted.

Best Chinese you could ever buy. Delicious and plenty to eat. Excellent value for money. Topped off with Friendly & Helpful staff. They also do deliveries, there is a charge but well worth it.

Really not nice. Honey mustard chicken was just mustard and way to strong. The beef dish just tasted off and the bbq sauce was so thick it was like jelly. Not much rice in the special rice.

Received a disappointing meal last night , pancake rolls hot on the outside cold In the middle , cashew chicken tasted off , chicken balls the chicken had the most bizarre texture almost like it was made of plastic rather than meat , rice was dry and the sweet and sour sauce was a thick bland gloop that tasted of nothing ..this place used to be good but seems to be going downhill fast ...I won't be back

Ordered early,(1635),thinking food would be freshly cooked...My chicken chowmien was just chicken and noodles no veg at all. The chicken balls i had to finish cooking in the oven ....I very rarely get take away but used southway as it has always been nice and consistent...once it becomes a lottery,it just aint wort it...

I haven't used this take away for a long time as I hadn't been impressed in the past but I gave it another go and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good as was the service and wait time.

It’s 8:00pm on a Tuesday night and I cannot order for delivery…..Such sad times as this used to be a really good takeaway…..gone down hill……

My food posts are important so sadly a negative post. The food was overpowered by I think the cooking oil. The veggies must be frozen, no flavours.through any dish. The batters were also complexly wrong for Chinese cooking.

Very nice people, always has delivered within 45 minutes and the food is very nice. The prices are average for Chinese Takeaways in our area.

Just Tried your honey mustard chicken .... Omg did you literally use a whole jar of English mustard ... Way way too much mustard . Maybe you should use a more milder mustard like Dijon or French . Was inedible .. horrible the chicken was not crispy it was soggy with all that mustard . Chucked it in the bin .

Arrived at 9.55pm and store closed. Opening hours state closes at 10.00pm. Cant leave a food review because couldn't even order any food. Food could be five star, but I never got a chance to find out. Failure on the highest level and hope you enjoyed your 5 minutes extra in bed. 1 Star. 🤬

We decided to get a takeaway from Southway Chinese as a last minute thing while visiting family. Order was taken over the phone and we went to pick it up, this was a smooth transaction. Food was very warm and lots of it. Chicken balls and pancake rolls seemed a little greasy though, this definitely affected our view of the meal overall. Good, but not the best.

Extremely tasty!! and hot. Was delivered alot earlier/quicker then expected. Honestly one of the tastiest meals I've had in a long time! We will most definitely be ordering from them again :)

called early to place an order, was told about an hour. nearly 2 hours later it arrived, then some food was missing. When i called them, they couldn't really be bothered about it. Fook ok, but bad customer service

By far the best Chinese in Plymouth!!! Very good quality food and the staff there are all extremely friendly. I also love the fact that the owner is determined to only deliver to very local area around Southway because he wants to make sure the food is always hot and fresh when it gets there! Nothing beats their crispy sweet and sour chicken balls on a Friday night!

Wanted to try this takeaway as it had good reviews. Couldn’t get it delivered to my area which was a pain so when I was near I ordered myself a chicken chow mien, I don’t like it to saucy so I asked for it dry fried with no bean spouts. It tasted great and a good portion even though in the reviews it said small portions. I couldn’t eat it all in one go. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back here again.

Good food & good value for money

We were so disappointed that our long-time favourite local Chinese recently closed. Fortunately, after reading several good reviews, we gave Southway Chinese a go. And we are so glad we did! The food was hot, fresh and high quality, and this was a very busy Friday evening, with customers queuing out the door. The meat was very lean and tasty, and the chicken satay was deliciously spicy and peanutty. Our new favourite local Chinese!

Used quite a bit and have always enjoyed the food. Whether popping in or getting it delivered I’ve found the staff to very friendly. Good choice of food and good prices. I’ll be back and would recommend to others.

A lot local Chinese shops are closed on Tuesday's so we stumbled across this one and we weren't disappointed. Food was all hot, very tasty & delivered promptly. Would definitely use this chinese again.

Fantastic tasting food always great service

The first vegetable curry turned up covered in prawns. Giving them another try a week later, the vegetable curry is now some vile mixed hash of sweet and sour sauce, pineapples and a bit of curry. Absolutely disgusting and will never return.

Don’t do it, this place was recommended to us. The lemon chicken was literally inedible and the rest of the food was bland. Go somewhere else.

Food was absolutely gorgeous!!!!! Chow main and the fried rice were amazing, not oily at all, seasoned beautifully. And the salt and pepper chicken...delicious! What a shame we can’t take you guys back to Leeds with us !!!

Really bad, can’t say how bad it was , FISh and chips so small and under cooked in old oil , all went in the bin , live to far to return , disgusting should be shut down , avoid at all cost

This is our regular takeaway for Chinese food. It is always good and the portions are decent. Cash only, so make sure you have enough money as the cashpoint machine is no longer in the precinct.

Cash only. Easy to order from, friendly service, makes me hungry just thinking about it. Maybe have a new Cher recipe had changed on a certain night it wasn't the best but all other times has been good

Always quick to deliver and the food taste great much better than that a mile away. Kids love the food and although the misses is really fussy she enjoys and eats the food.

Been coming here for more than 5 years now since I moved into the area. Never disappointed and most importantly they get the classics like chicken balls always right.

Visiting my Dad for the weekend and we decided to have a Chinese, as it's the closest we went to Southway. Well impressed as we were a family of four we had a few dishes sweet sour chicken, mushroom foo yung, beef fried rice, chips curry etc really big portions and very tasty would definitely return, my Dad lives close and said it would be his favourite from now on.

Good value everyday Chinese cuisine

We use the Southway Chinese on a regular basis. Food is always good, hot and "touch wood" we have never had a bad meal. It can be busy and delivery times can be a lengthy wait. I usually phone in and collect which reduces the waiting time and unlike other take aways they start preparing your food before you arrive and pay....

Just not what i would call chinese food very poor over cooked rice was terrible and the sweet and sour sauce was so sharp tasting couldnt eat it. They need to get some training on how to cook the food should be quick not wait till it goes stoggy.and the sauce should be orange with peppers onions and pinnapple in it.Chicken balls are round.Only thing that was good the delivery service.

Once a month we have a family treat, very good quality of food, service is quick, busy periods may have to wait a while. We also tried a take away for 2 menu, quite a lot to choose from and enough for 4 people.

Food is good and as I normally ring up then collect I don't wait long.
