We were staying nearby for the WB tour and it was a great family pub. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is a playground nearby as well by Tesco express so it's brilliant for families.

Thank you for the wonderful evening, after a long time we finally checked in again at Southern Cross, still great, a culinary journey, a real treat, both dinner and service and knowledge of the wine... Really enjoyed it, thanks Pieter and Natascha and the rest of your brigade 👌🏻it was a party again 🥳

My this use to be a wonderful pub when the Italian brothers ran it. We were over charged. the meals were mediocre staff never asked how our meals were. tables sticky will not be going back

Parking is very small and narrow corners difficult to navigate. My gluten-free meal came out 15 minutes after my family's meal, so they had all finished before I got mine. The meals should of been timely prepared, so they came out all together. The server cleared the table, while I was still eating, not acceptable. They increased the volume of the music so high, we could not hear ourselves around the dinner table.

Staff are very friendly, food very tasty. Very accomadating and understanding with adults with learning disabilities

Don't trust the parking the ipad in the bar for the anpr may aswel not be there. And think twice if you think they will cancel it, I'm betting they work on commission!

Where do I start? I could not fault this pub. Management and staff have done wonders here. Beer is always great and food is absolutely amazing! They always welcome everyone with a smile and treat everyone amazingly! Totally accommodating and no ask is too big for the team here!

Best Cheeseburger One of the best cheeseburger I have ever ate. You can choose your own ingredients. The beef is fresh and delicious. The portions are pretty large. Highly recommend! Great food and great staff. Nicest pub I've visited for a long time.

Came here for dinner and couldn’t fault! Staff were so attentive and professional. I have an awkward allergy and they were amazing whilst handling this! Food was beautiful and drinks were great! Got a parking ticket whilst having lunch even though I used the numberplate sign in machine. Agreed with them to cancel it they didn't so no its doubled and they are refusing to cancel it now. The manager has a disgusting attitude and should be replaced!

The hotel's service was incredibly disappointing. Staff were unresponsive, and basic requests were ignored. Our room was never properly cleaned, and the overall experience felt neglected. Definitely not worth the price—would not recommend staying here.

We went to the Harry Potter Studio with my family and decided to stop here for dinner. Really nice pub, my kids enjoyed the meal and played with toys machines too. Food and drinks: value for money. Service with a smile. Highly recommend, definitely coming back.

I had an amazing experience at Southern Cross last night. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the big daddy burger, and the service was top-notch. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing evening out.

Staff are very attentive, made sure we had everything we needed and even managed to convince us into some delicious desserts!

We sat outside in the beer garden out the back which has lots of hanging baskets and nice flowers. We had a lovely lunch which was great value (Mon-Fri daytime 2 mains for £14). Staff were all pleasant and attentive and the pub was very clean inside.

The hotel is very homely. Stayed for work! The landlord was very attentive and the breakfast was great!

The hotel here is so nice! Newly decorated and the landlord here was very attentive to our needs, explained how we get breakfast and even made sure our parking had been done correctly! Woukd deffinitely reccommend!

I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant. The menu was overpriced, and the portions were tiny. The food lacked flavor and seemed like it was reheated from frozen. The service was almost nonexistent, and the staff seemed disinterested. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

The worst dining experience I've ever had. The waitstaff was rude and inattentive, and the food took forever to arrive. When it finally did, it was undercooked and tasted awful. The restaurant was dirty, and the atmosphere was chaotic. I regret wasting my time and money here.

Great experience in Watford, one of the cheapest bars you will go to.. Great for shots! There is a great vibe in the bar with pool table, electronic games, tons of TV to watch your sport and the staff are really friendly. Heny is a young bartender there and she is amazing, great smile and always on the go, great employee to have. I will definitely be going back for great food, drinks and a good time. What's also amazing is the way the cater for fury family members, dogs have their own menus and are treated like patrons

Price-performance ratio is great here. You shouldn't expect a classic hotel here. It's more of a bar with a guest house. Rooms were ok, unfortunately the bathroom was a bit outdated. But that didn't bother us for 1 night. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere in the bar. The prices for food and drinks are ok. The location is great, just under 10 minutes walk to the train station to get anywhere. We will come back when we are in the area again!

Decent pint, perfect distance from Watford Junction Station, staff were friendly, the new manager has ensured a good atmosphere in the pub. 5 stars for the food and atmosphere, will definitely be back.

Needed somewhere close to the city centre to work from for a 2 night stay. This place was great value for money, great priced food ( a steak for less than £10 and brekkie for a fiver). Noticed during both days hoovering being done in the corridors so no issues with cleanliness. Would stay again.

Brilliant value for money. Sky sports games on tap. Loads of screens. Excellent value for money food and drinks.. they have my tea ready when I comw through the door.. such a welcoming pub ..you see lots of different nationalities in there.. not many pubs outside of London are as diverse as this and it is reflected by the management team of Steve and Mel.. who seem to hire the right staff... also of different nationalities... so lucky to have this as my local.. Great atmosphere tonight and new friends made.

I went to the pub while staying at the hotel. The food I ordered was delicious and I liked it.

Shockingly grim. The shower is full of mould and mildew. Rooms were not cleaned or towels changed during the duration of our stay (despite a notice telling us that towels would be changed if we left them on the floor). Water in the shower was tepid (despite a notice warning us of HOT WATER!). In the bar/restaurant the food was clearly frozen, ready-made and microwaved. One dish had to be returned/rejected as it was inedible. The bed was comfortable and clean, but rest assured that we definitely won't be returning.

Had been there once before, 6 years ago and my normal place had had a price hike, so I thought I would try Southern Cross again. I'm very glad I did , good price, discount on food if a guest, pub quiz on the Sunday, easy access and parking on site, friendly staff ,comfortable clean bed, shower in room but toilet (shared ) down the hall , all clean, not the best condition decor but you can't see the paint chips or flakes while you sleep. Overall, it was very good will definitely go again.

Best customer service. Lady serving us as we sat outside in the sunny back garden was so attentive, we could have been at her home as distinguished guests. God bless her. Went out of her way to even source things she didn't have to like a charger and toothpicks. Shame I didn't ask her name. She's the tall beautiful very well spoken blondish lady. The Thursday bogof of stack burgers 🍔 was a steal at £8.99! For two! Bellys so full we had to get a taxi for a 5 minute journey. Kudos Southern Cross

We were guests for one night as a base for going to the Warner Bross Harry Potter studios. Excellent location: 10 minutes walk from Watford junction, where free shuttle buses leave every 20 minutes and take you to the studios in a quarter of an hour. They are not new but clean rooms, above a pub. Breakfast starts at 10, but there is a cafe on the way to the shuttle. You can have dinner in the pub. The staff are friendly and helpful. They stored our bags for us during our day at the studios at no extra charge.

The staff are wonderful I will be coming back

Visited here for a birthday meal for my son. Service was terrible. Genuinely forgot my drinks at the bar whilst placing a food order, and the lady working there made it a point of telling me that they don't do 'table service' when she brought just two glasses of fizzy over. Then they tell me they have no milk for a hot chocolate. Made mistakes with the order and had to tell them at least twice. Then we stupidly ordered desert. The warm fudge cake was cold, which was described on the menu as warm. Told the server, and he said he would put it back in the microwave. I asked about the ice cream, and he said he would obviously take it off first!'. The manner in which he responded was so rude that I asked to speak to a manager. She came over after a few minutes and explained that the server is autistic and doesn't normally serve people, yet I then saw him serve other people. The manager then kind of just stood there looking at us, which made us feel very uncomfortable. My issue is for the explanation and putting that young server in that situation in the first place. I was offered free drinks, which I politely declined as the experience left us all feeling rather uneasy. We hastily made out exit and can safely say we will not be returning any time soon. Food was okayish.

I was travelling. I typed hotel near me as I was stuck. This came up. I booked it. I arrived and it was shut. My experience of"hotels" which is why my key search term is hotel not Airbnb is, I would be able to speak to someone about check-in issues. Having rang the contact number severally, despite me dealing with the issue i had on my travel, I got no answer. I ended up sleeping in my car in the car park. I have been told that I will get a ticket however, I should contact them by ringing (a number I have rang in total 8 times before being able to speak to someone) and they would be able to sort the ticket or penalty. So, this is the joke. I have paid 58.50 for the luxury of sleeping in my car and expecting a 100 penalty (which I have to believe whom I spoke to on the phone would get sorted). I am pretty sure I could have exact same stress levels for way cheaper. No apologies, no empathy, neither. So buyers be aware, this will come up in search as hotel but DO NOT expect hotel services. It is, however, fantastically looking from where I was.

After a trip to Warner bros, our extended family needed food. We have a few green kings near us, so we tried the Southern Cross. We arrived just after 2000hrs and there were around 10 people in the pub. We found a table that would sit 8 easy enough and sat down near the door to the kitchen. First interaction was hearing a member of staff enter the kitchen and apologise for a table of 8 walking in. Since the food serving time finished at 2100hrs I thought we were in plenty of time but that made us feel welcome. We ordered and 4 of us ordered the signature stack as its a known quantity to me. Unfortunately when it arrived the bottom burger was still pink inside. They offered to replace so I watched my family eat whilst waiting for mine. When the second came out it was also pink inside. When I pointed it out again there was some discussion in the kitchen then the team leader came and said that it had been probed to 75 degrees! I somewhat doubt due to it being raw. We were offered a chicken burger however I wasn't taking that chance. We asked for a refund and was refunded the burger meals without even an apology. Complete cavalier attitude from him and ruined a perfectly good day out

Came to the southern cross as a group of 8. We paid all together so all food comes out at the same time but the kids meals were the last out. Steak was undercooked and stone cold, sent this back and waited 25 minutes for replacement which was still not tasty. Staff were ok and clearly no management or direction in place. Wouldn’t return.

As a family we decided to go for a meal to celebrate our Daughters 18th Birthday. The staff went the extra mile and decorated around our table with banners, balloons etc. When my daughter arrived she was absolutely made up with the whole setting. The food was great, hot and tasty. My daughter especially enjoyed the Vodka, orange and cranberry juice drinks she had. Only 2 or 3 but she loved them. After our dinner the staff brought out a small birthday cake (that i dropped off earlier) with candles etc and sang Happy Birthday. We could not have been happier with the service, food and the effort the staff made to make it a special night. Thank you!!!!!

Only went for a meal. Decent food. Steaks were on special offer, tender and cooked as requested.

I went for lunch with my daughters o Friday 23rd, very mixed reviews from us. I would rate the lunch 2.5/5. We've had better pub lunches before. We had the chicken plater and the chicken was extremely dry, overcooked and chewy. My daughter who wears braces found it impossible to bite through them. The chips were good. The best part was the passion fruit cocktails. For pub lunch next time, I would not consider Southern Cross Watford.

Ordered starters and mains to come together, after a short wait the starters arrived, but only 4 instead of 5! No mains in sight, asked several times what was happening, told coming now, eventually spoke to assistant manager, told mains coming right now. 30 mins later still no mains or the missing starter. Asked to cancel order and get refund, then 1st of mains appeared, with cold chips, cold beans, burnt garlic bread, ( also other 3 garlic bread starters were burnt. Rest of mains arrived, kids meal arrived with warm chips and fish fingers and cold carrots!! Got a partial refund but never will return, even had to get our own cutlery and sauces for the mains, just like being at a supermarket cafe, at least their food is hot! Will also write a letter of complaint to the brewery.

Start of by saying the staff were brilliant the pub and food were also good, but the room!! No heating, No hot water and the room is in need of repairs!! Paid £81 for one night and feel ripped-off. Wont be back until rooms have a makeover, shocked as we have never had a problem with Greenking pubs before.

Not bad, food was reasonable for the price, it's not too loud Won't mind coming again.
