Harvester Garston in Watford

Not a pleasant experience and staff that show little interest in customer service

Something has changed since we were last here. It seems they've cut corners on the meal (no corn on the cob anymore and the chicken strips with the chicken stack were like straws) whilst at the same time hiking the prices. A shame as it was always a great meal for a good price.

Our visit was a very pleasant experience, nice food, great atmosphere and polite friendly service by Vicky, chelsie and Artan. Always a pleasure to visit this restaurant. All the staff here are always very welcoming. Cannot fault this venue. Harvester Garston is consistently 5 star in all categories, food, drinks, service and atmosphere.continuous standards are high.

Sixteen of us came for breakfast from our local church and we come once a month. Angela served us and her service was excellent as she was totally efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the classic breakfast, eggs benedict and some had the fruit bowl. Please provide marmalade and maybe it might be easier for your servers to have coffee and tea pots to refill rather than taking the cups away and then having to remember whose cup is whose. Value for money, ambience and food were very good. Angela THANK YOU SO MUCH for your attentive service to both our tables. Superb.

There was a group of sixteen of us from our church and we usually go for breakfast once a month. Angela served us and her service was absolutely excellent. Exceptional and so kind. We all had different breakfasts, drinks, some had allergies and we changed tables and she was incredibly gracious in helping us to do that. Nothing was too much trouble. The classic breakfast, eggs benedict and other were very good quality as ever. Well done Angela and well done to the Harvester. Nice entrance and lovely ambience. We will be back for another lovely breakfast. It would be easier for servers to bring out the coffee or tea pots rather than have to take them away and refill. Marmalade please too.

Unfortunately, we just walked out after waiting such a long time to be seated. Despite 3 members of staff seeing us waiting there, there was no sign of anyone helping anytime soon. Restaurant was incredibly empty too.

Let’s start with the food I go quite regularly to the harvester near my house but I decided to go to this branch as I had to meet a friend and I invited him for dinner. I ordered a steak with an extra portion of chips and a steak sauce, I’m afraid the chips were stale. They seemed like they’ve been lying on the side under the heat lamp for hours. They were hard. There was they were not soft crisp Are freshly fried. The steak sauce seemed like it’s again it had split. It was not smooth. It was lumpy and I asked for no mushy peas and I got them again but that was removed and gave me extra onion rings. When I talk to the manager or what seemed like a manager, the supervisor he told me the reason the checks were like that well because they changed the oil which I think was quite bending the truth Under the circumstances which I will explain later the service was very good apart from going to the salad bar and literally coming back and not even halfway through my salad bowl my main meal was on the table so they would like trying to rush me out even though I’ve got there for like an 8 o’clock sitting our server was quite nice and polite she seems to have had a rough day with other servers. Look like they had an argument or do some bullying going on as my friend and I could hear some arguments going on between the servers and there was a bit of foul languages which was not appropriate for a service industry restaurant Harvester Garston need to pull up their standards quite considerably and they should they need to be some Customer Care Training

Came in tonight as a table of 8 originally but 2 others joined us. Our server was called Jake was so kind and patient with us all while we was all chatting away with our friends. Couldn’t fault his service at all despite us staying till half 10/11pm. Thanks again Jake for your great service!

We had a table booked for today and we was eating are dinner when the manger asked us to leave soon as they had a party coming in and needed the table . We go there all the time as my husband is disabled and in a wheelchair. We have never had that before and it upset my autistic son and my husband as we could not have lovely time as we had to rush are food. My food had to be sent back as it was burnt

Staff here are so friendly and the food is great.

Arrived at 11am for breakfast, just in time as finished at 11.15am. Vicky our waitress was very happy & jolly, which is nice to see as that’s not always the way. Lovely decor & breakfast very tasty. Husband was happy with unlimited coffee. Thank you 😊

My trip to the harvester gave me few concerns. Firstly the food was great and was better than expected. However the service wasn't great the menus were slammed on the table and we saw a young lad called Jake on his phone.

Great value ... and good service. Really nice, friendly atmosphere. The "free" salad bar is always a welcome bonus!

T'was Christmas Eve, the restaurant was busy and service was a little slow because of it. That said, our waitress was apologetic several times but very friendly when we got to chat with her. Food was as you'd expect from a Harvester 🙂

I Had christmas dinner here and l thought the food was terrible it was a 4 course meal but half the food wasn’t cooked properly and the pudding was far to sweet and sickening The food wasn’t really worth £69 and not good value for your money I won’t be coming here again

I mean the food was nice. But when I booked I opted for the Boxing Day menu and was never given it ? From the time we arrived it took 20mins from someone to sit us and ask us for a drink. Service was just extremely slow for a place that wasn’t busy at all.

Review of Harvester - A Disappointing Christmas Dinner Experience I had pre-booked a Christmas dinner at Harvester, ensuring in advance that they were aware of my severe allergies to prawns and any pig-based items. I was reassured by the manager that my meal would be handled with utmost care, with no cross-contamination in the kitchen. However, when my dinner arrived, it came with prawns on the plate. The waiter casually said, “Oh, I’ll go and take them out for you,” which was completely unacceptable given the allergy concerns I had emphasized earlier. This disregard for safety left me anxious and nauseous, completely ruining my Christmas dinner. Adding to the disappointment, my husband’s steak was severely overcooked, hard as a rock, and no steak knife was provided. Even the waitress who reconfirmed my order appeared to shake her head in disbelief at what was happening. After the debacle with my meal, I reluctantly accepted an offer for apple pie and custard. Shockingly, this too was stone cold—both the pie and the custard. By this point, I was not only disappointed but also sick to my stomach and had completely lost my appetite. The manager did issue a partial refund, but honestly, it didn’t make up for the awful experience. What was supposed to be a festive and enjoyable meal turned into a stressful, upsetting ordeal. I won’t be returning to this branch and would advise others to think twice before dining here, especially if you have dietary requirements or allergies.

I came here with my family on Christmas eve, first time at this branch but we're big fans of Harvester however was very disappointed on this occasion. To begin with the staff member at the front desk was unwelcoming and unbothered. Our waiter was the same, not friendly at all and seemed like he didnt want to be there. I ordered a sirloin steak and asked for it to be well done yet it wasnt well done but rather red and very salty. (See pic) Wont be coming to this branch again. Customer service is nil

I went to have a christmas dinner with my daughter but they wasn't serving christmas dinner anymore and it was disappointed

Came here for our Christmas Eve dinner with 14 of us. Our waiter was absolutely lovely he came over many times to check of us and he was brilliant. We ended up having an issue with our bill which we asked them to change , the manager was so rude waving his hands in my sisters face and arguing with us saying we had been given a bottle of prosecco which we had not! He was so awful about it and absolutely ruined the end of our night. We received no apology and was left to pay the bill in FULL!!!! Which is so wrong in my opinion. If anyone has an issue with something don’t even bother complaining as they are not at all willing to fix it with ease will argue and try to make the issue bigger than it is! Terrible experience won’t be doing this again!

Slow service, but probably due to time of year and not enough staff. Food to be fair did not take long once ordered and was fine.

Tables with no condiments, no table placement mats, just a plain uninviting table. Food was the poorest I have had at a Harvester, and it’s been a while. All of us felt the same. Very poor quality and the place is worn and poorly set.

Our waiter Khaled was amazing, efficient and helped out by getting our order in quickly. We did not have a booking but the venue was very accomodating. Good value for money. We enjoyed our experience.

Khaled was a friendly, funny and helpful gentleman. He made us feel very welcome and at ease. Would definitely come back!

very noisy. had the Xmas dinner . and Xmas pudding. the pud was so small . was gone in one mouth full . jennys is much better and a lot cheaper I recommend jennys any day .

I've been here twice now and the staff have been amazing both times! Friendly and professional at all times making everyone feel welcome and valued. The food, from the 'free' salad to the scruptious smoked pork main and the choux pastry desert are amazing and taste like they're from an upmarket restaurant. 100% recommened.

For no particular occasion, my partner and I wanted a traditional Festive Christmas Dinner as a treat. We booked online at the Harvester, Garston, and were looking forward to our meal, as we had previously had excellent meals at this venue. We arrived a little early but the staff on the door said this was no problem and we could go to our table immediately if we liked. We did this and were shown to a nicely situated table for two near both the drinks fountain and salad bar. Our order for drinks was taken straight away and we both chose the refillable glass. Our table host, Chelsi, gave us ample time to go over the standard and festive menus and then took our orders. I chose the King Prawn Cocktail starter, Turkey Christmas Dinner main and Christmas Pudding and custard dessert. My partner had a Cheesy Mushroom starter, Chicken Crunch Burger main and Treacle Pudding with custard dessert. Our starters arrived within a very short time and were excellent. Both very tasty and nicely presented. The same went with the main courses and the desserts. One thing I will note here is that for my Turkey dinner, the stuffing and Yorkshire pudding were both amazing. Possibly the best I have had in a very long time, and the Turkey was beautifully cooked and extremely tender. The desserts were equally tasty and impressive. We had a great experience at this Harvester and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, but Chelsi stood out as being a terrific host. This is definitely a restaurant we both highly recommend, and one we will return to again.

Had a lovely breakfast and service by Khaled was excellent, he is always so welcoming and goes above and beyond.

We had a private function and it all went very well. I am generally not the biggest fan of Harvester restaurants in general having had a bad experience in the past. But today they did a good job and everything was as we wanted.

I'm staying in the Hotel just down the road and wanted to try something different from the Hotel menu. Ribs were quite disappointing. Came out in literally three minutes (microwaved?) Very small portion with hardly any meat for £20. Serving Staff were very pleasant. I only learned about the Salad Bar on leaving.

Usual great service from the team at Garston. Tonight we had Khalid. Always on the ball and looks after you. He is always polite, helpful and goes the extra mile

Khaled is firm favourite with our family & always goes above & beyond to look after us whether we are in for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We were in today celebrating a birthday and had a lovely time as always

Had a meal this evening at the harvester in Garston and there were 10 of us. Food was good however Carla G who served us made the evening. Amazing from start to finish and so polite and friendly with the kids in our group making them feel at ease.

Table was booked for 8.45pm and was out by 9.30pm, I wanted to take my other half out for a nice meal and instead we was made to feel very ruched and unwelcome by the server named Sean. Sean might have well pushed us out the door with the way we was treated. Pretty much slammed our drink glasses, food and salad bowls on the table. Never come to see our food was when we got it. If me and my other half didn't just wanna go we would have spoken to the manager.

Becca was great tonight and made us feel very welcome! Great atmosphere and great food.

Good experience but rather noisy with the loads of kids around, but I suppose that was due to the cinema just down the road showing the latest Paddington 3 film.

Service was attentive and relaxed. Food came in a timely fashion and was exactly what was ordered and great quality. All guests had a lovely time.

I genuinely don’t think the four bar staff here tonight could have possibly made us feel any less welcome if they tried. My 3 friends and I arrived just after 9 to have one drink. Closing time says 10pm on google. We were stared at when we walked and immediately made to feel like we were unwanted. There is a QR barcode on the table so we thought we needed to order on this as why else would it be there? We put our order through and a few minutes later a bar member started vigorously ringing the bell. My friend decided to check and make sure our order went through. The bar staff were incredibly rude and angry that she had used the app to order. She passed it on to another bar staff to deal with and could loudly be heard telling her colleague that she just wanted to go home. Another bar member then took it upon himself to publicly announce to the whole bar (despite the fact we were basically the only ones in there who didn’t seem to be friends of the bar staff) a running countdown to when they were closing. Important to note that his watch must be 10 minutes ahead of mine and my friends. 0/10 would recommend but if you do venture here for some reason, be sure to arrive at least two hours before closing as not to upset the staff 👍

Was greeted by the manager who was polite then he seated us at our table. We was then served by vikki who is always great at her job, nothing's a problem. Food was cooked perfectly.

Totally incorrect order was delivered. Even after adding notes. Called the restaurant and they said the driver was at fault. The drivers need to pick up the right orders and the restaurant need to clearly mark the bags as there was not receipt added.

Amazing chipotle rainbow burger. Everything needed in a burger for a vegetarian. Finally something with imagination. Please please ditch plant based processed junk.

Carla g outstanding service no issues to small shame we couldn't pay with dust (dust comment came from when Carla said any allergies) we tried to pay other ways like bricks. Your team should be happy to have a server like Carla.

it is such a nice harvester possible the nicest harvester i have been in, our serves becca was very kind and very quick. The toilets where lovely and clean and the salad bar was fresh and very nice

Absolutely rubbish, got nothing we ordered and the stuff that was delivered was wrong and incomplete. When you order a burger, why do you only get the top half of the bun?!

The venue is lovely to go to have a nice meal but the manager there does ruin the atmosphere quite a bit if he's in the building. Prices good the members of staff the servers are lovely and bend over backwards to give you the perfect service

Our server Vikki was amazing, she was efficient, cheerful, and very helpful. Our food was absolutely substandard, you have raised the prices, made the portion smaller, and overcooked all of our dinner. My sons chicken was burnt, and my baked potato skin was so tough that it couldn’t be cut with a sharp knife. I shared my comments with a manager before, and he literally did not care a single bit. Did not even pretend to care. This is not our usual harvester and we will not be revising. Really disappointed with our experience here

Dropped in this evening on the off chance...they were really busy but managed to squeeze us in...the staff were so attentive, friendly and accommodating, we didn't have to wait throughout the meal for anything...the food was great, cooked perfectly and the the waiter looking after us was brilliant with our kids! The restaurant was clean, friendly and fab environment for families....we will be back!

Arrived at HARVESTER GARSTON WATFORD @ 1710 on Tuesday evening having travelled all day. We entered a mostly empty restaurant and were confronted by the greeter asking if we had booked, we said “no”. We were told that the whole restaurant was fully booked. Looking at the mostly empty restaurant I politely questioned this. We were told that even though the restaurant looked empty that it was booked out all evening, with the underlying message being you must book online. We left and I straight away looked online to book a table, there was one free within 10 minutes. I have eaten in Harvester restaurants all over the country and have always received a warm greeting. I can only guess that this is total laziness from the staff and he could not be bothered. Not to worry I would be coming here again.

We visited tonight to celebrate a 50th birthday and a catchup with a few girlfriends. Our waitress Becky was very welcoming, attentive and friendly. chef presented the food very well and as a chef myself it nice to be on the other side, the food was delicious and hot on arrival. Even though it was busy we felt relaxed and comfortable to sit and chat over drinks after our meals.

We were only served by staff after getting the attention of staff. The pink haired girl took the order but we waited ages to get the food but it arrived finally when we mentioned this to the blonde waitress who obviously flagged this immediately. Her sense of urgency was welcomed. It looked like the food had been prepareed but not brought to us. The young guy Jake seemed attentive but we only saw him at the end. Overall the food was great but the place lacks good management to ensure customers are served. Please train your managed and train your staff properly. I see that you only tend to reply with a generic response to say you are disappointed to hear that customers were not satisfied but it would be more useful to take action to improve things and tell us how you will! With the same complaints it is clear that action has not been taken yet. Thanks

I went as a group on a Saturday night. We had one menu to share with three of us as the other menus were kids menus. After waiting for a while (25 mins) we had to get the waitresses attention in order to be served. Once she was there we ordered. I think this is the main criticism I would like to make . It’s not as if the staff were chatting away having a great time . They were definitely serving customers and working hard. But there needs to be some sort of system so they can see how long people are waiting to put their first order in. The food was nice so no complaints about this.

Tables areas and toilets were clean and tidy, salad was great with a good selection. Lot of tables empty but told we could only eat in the bar area which was a little sad and dark. The burger that we ordered came out stone cold, so did the 3 fish tacos which consisted of a cheap fishfinger inside a tiny taco 🌮 with some salad and tartar sauce on top, fries came out crispy and hot. Seemed like the kitchen couldnt handle the amount of orders and left our mains on the side whilst they waited for the frys. The nachos didn't have any cheese on them and the sour cream was very lumpy and tasteless. I didn't find the bar staff very helpful or welcoming at all.

Came with my son and granddaughter We were served by Carla G and it was the nicest evening . Carla was so amazing with the children and the food was amazing fast service and tasted perfect . We will be coming back on the weekend so kids can see Carla they talked about her the whole way home . So Thankyou for making the evening Great 🎉

We visited a Harvester in Aylesbury which was dyer, and I swore that I would never visit another one again. We were traveling back from Norwich and my wife decided to google a good salad and the Harvester came up, the nearest being North Watford. The welcome was great, the beer cold, and my food, a smokey pork belly,was fantastic. My wife had an unlimited salad and again great quality food. This place has re-ignited my love for Harvesters and I can't wait to return. And brilliant value for money. Well done guys great job.

OK but not as well packaged as St Albans Harvester, but they do breakfasts 7 days a week, so have fine tuned everything. Hash browns and baked beans ideally need to be packaged separately. btw, the bacon shouldn't be thicker than black pudding

We got served by Becca this evening and it was delightful, seated in a pleasant area, food came super quick which was lovely to see. If we are ever back in Watford would happily come back. Thank you to all the team that made the end of a great day.

Went to Harvester in Garston to have an impromptu Birthday Celebration Dinner with my wife. We had an excellent evening, where Carla and Vicky made our evening extra special. The food was also very nice and well presented.

We have been going to Harvester Garston for a number of years and have always enjoyed our visits. Very friendly and welcoming staff and good food. However our recent visit was a great disappointment. The food was good but the standard of service fell well below par. We were shown to our table by a waiter, or whoever he was, who proceeded to drop the menus in a pile on the table and walked off before we had even reached the table! We then just sat there and waited for someone to introduce themselves and ask us if we wanted drinks. Eventually my daughter walked up to a waiter and asked him when we were going to be served. In a minute he said then proceeded to clear a table. So, clearing tables is more important than serving customers? He eventually decided to take our order for drinks we ordered our meals at the same time. There was no apology from him for the wait. The meal arrived in timely fashion . When we managed to attract his attention we asked for the bill and he eventually brought it to us and he left it at the end of the table and walked off and that was the last we saw of him. I eventually took the bill to the till area where I paid. The chap who dealt with it was the chap who had taken us to our table originally. He didn't say a word, he just took payment and walked away. Needless to say I did not leave a tip!
