Fantastic Hot Chocolate located in a funky cafe giving out a fab vibe. Friendly and cheerful staff, nice chilled and relaxed environment, ideal for snacks, meals, range of hot chocolates. Located opposite Exeter Cathedral. Well worth a visit.

Nice position in front of the cathedral and staff were pleasant, we ordered a Devon tea. The scones were uncooked in the middle and the cream and jam was enough but not plentiful. We couldn’t be bothered to complain and get more scones, I know we should have done.

Travelled in from London for work and was very hungry! Came across this place and the seating outside attracted me (warm sunny day). I ordered the vegan breakfast, gobbled it down asap. The service was excellent. I was still hungry so ordered another vegan breakfast. Good stuff. If I’m back in the area, I’d definitely eat there again 👍🏾

Most of the staff when ordering were lovely and food came out fast, which was great. Food was ok but could’ve had more for the price or used higher quality ingredients. More knowledge required on allergens. Mid way through our meal a waitress came out to let us know that they hadn’t charged us for the syrup in one of our coffees. This seemed like an unnecessary interruption for the sake of a few pennies, especially considering it was a mistake made on their side. They then charged us £1.20 for said syrup which we queried as this seemed outrageous. She kept insisting that this was the number on the till (although clearly didn’t know the price herself) but eventually we saw that it had been put through twice and so we were given 60p back in change. Perhaps if it was approached differently we wouldn’t have minded but to have to spend 5 minutes debating 60p while our food got cold just seemed like an unnecessary way to ruin a meal. A real shame but definitely won’t be returning based on the experience.

Made me buy another drink to use the loo very upset with the cousner service would not rate more than a 2 star I give a 2 as the water was refreshing!!! I'd think the decors was good

Been coming here for a while, for takeout and sit in coffees, brunch and dinner/cocktails in the evening. Great service, staff are always really friendly and helpful. Coffee is always fantastic and great choice of alternative milk options. Place is always clean and nice environment. Food is lovely, would recommend the mac n cheese or the brunch is amazing! Cocktails are such good value and good choice. Lovely place to go all year round! Great views of the cathedral if you sit outside on a nice day :)

First time here, right by cathedral and town, had a very warm welcome from a friendly face! Came for cocktials (great 2 for 1 deal) really delicious and lovely atmosphere with comforting lighting and jolly music!

What a fantastic evening for my girlfriends birthday. The staff were extremely attentive and very polite/kind and the prices are fantastic! I’d recommend to anyone looking for a good night out.

Cooked breakfast was perfectly fine but not great. Orange Juice was actually Orange squash. Tea pot arrived with no tea leaves in it, just hot water. You get the impression when you walk in that the standard will be higher than it actually is but for the price I guess you can’t complain too much.

Lovely café, people watching from the elevated area with views to the cathedral square. Generous breakfast portions and very reasonable prices. Sourdough however would be better than soggy toast. Should be 5 star. Three flights of stairs to the bathrooms so make it worth your while. Very pleasant waiters.🇬🇧🇳🇿

Called into Weatherspoons for breakfast. Service was good and interior lovely with the stained glass windows. But I'm sorry that's as far as it goes, the English breakfast was bad. The food was all cold even the toast was spoilt. Looked if it had all been cooked in advance and put under those warming lamps but had forgot to turn the heat up. Treated by my kids (well adults), quite quirky decor .. well no decor at all really but in saying that it didn't really matter because the atmosphere smothered that.. the servers were very attentive and polite.... Now the food is very good I had the father's Day special red wine slow braised steak, wilted green veg and triple fried chips..lovely, Clairo's choice was buttermilk chicken burger and my son had a Mac pig burger with dirty fries ... Delishouse, the south Street standard is anything but standard and we'll worth a visit. It also caters for vegitarian and disabled diners.

Can’t beat it for central location on the cathedral green. But £7.50 or for a large glass of rose and £2.50 for orations of chilli corn and other craft snacks is a bit much.

I've been meaning to try this place for ages and finally decided to go. The lady behind the bar wasn't the friendliest but the vibes seemed very cool. My boyfriend and I ordered the vegan burgers but what came was the most suspicious looking 'burger' I've seen. It looked like and tasted like rubber - the texture and the taste were so horrible. We tried to get through a couple of mouthfuls but just gave up and left. Would absolutely not recommend the vegan burger, but can imagine it's a cool place for a drink. The toilets are three floors up though and really not the nicest. I get that they're going for rustic/industrial vibe but that doesn't mean the toilets need to look so uninviting.

Looking around for a place too eat and had heard some mixed reviews from friends.

Our first visit was about 3 months ago. Place was full downstairs, so we went upstairs, decor a bit bare and stark, but hey, we weren't there to see but to eat. And we were pleasantly surprised, food arrived quickly and was nice. Nothing spectacular, but nice. Second time we went last week for early lunch, we've been told that no lunch menu is available before 12 o'clock. That's ok, we could wait, so hubby placed the order about 15 minutes before 12. Food arrived actually before 12, so that was good, however glassed we've been given for drinks were disgusting - were they even washed??? Don't think so. Also table was dirty and menu had sticky rings from glassed so not exactly appetising. I understand that some customers are pigs and plonk their overflowing drinks on menu - but that should be seen by staff and removed, as it really looks that nobody cares. Makes you wonder about how clean the place is in the kitchen, behind closed door, if they don't care that customers are given VERY dirty glasses and menu is so sticky you don't want to touch it.

Lovely little Restaurant in the middle of Exeter. The food was beautiful, full of flavour and really well cooked.

Had a great burger, fat or thin chips. All served in a nice atmosphere by friendly staff. Am assured the beer was good and has a lovely very large glass of chianti. Excellent value

Visited here this weekend whilst visiting Exeter! We we're hunting for some time to find somewhere to eat, with food options for my husband and for myself (vegetarian). Had great vegetarian choices! I had the Mac and cheese burger which was delicious! My husband had the burger with extra pulled pork! He said it was one of the best burgers he's had! Staff were friendly, chilled atmosphere and good value for money! We'll be back!

A nice location in the city centre which was busy enough to have a good atmosphere without being so packed that you couldn't sit down in a Saturday evening.

Popped into the South Street Standard last night. Good friendly staff and was quiet and informal. I had a couple of nice ciders. The decor is modern yet old! The tables look like my mothers old blue melamine kitchen table! Great, will call in again.

Convenient location opposite the cathedral. Portions generous but food rather average. Nice selection of beers on tap.

We visited last night for the first time and were pretty impressed overall. We didn’t realise that you had to order at the bar so we waited at our table for a while for someone to come over... and then realised that they weren’t going to so we went up to order. Nice selection of gluten free on the menu and gluten free bread available too which was lovely. Beef bourguignon was really good, lots of flavour, lots of tender beef and creamy mash - and at a very reasonable price! We liked the feel of the restaurant and it was airy and not too warm. Friendly service! Will come back, nice to see dogs are allowed too.

Convenient place for drinks and good offers on cocktails. Service with a snarl is not our fave style.

I visited this place last week with my family, we were very surprised just how nice it was. We all ordered different things from the menu and was all very satisfied. There was one young lady that worked there who stood out, we was almost turned away by a young gentleman but she made sure we could get a table. This young lady had a bad foot and was still working the WHOLE restaurant (which I thought was great) she was great with our children. Great place will definitely be going back!!

I have visited South Street a couple of times and all the food I had was really tasty, specially the mac and cheese burger with avocado and egg.

Took visiting friends. We had truffled macaroni cheese (mushrooms SO rich!more than enough with small portion)), chickpea salad for the veggie, fish pie (too big for a small appetite) and burger - all very happy with our choices. Deconstructed sticky toffee sundae lovely but pannacotta let down by rhubarb accompaniment which was supposed to be "crunchy" but was tough and stringy. However, that small blip apart we enjoyed our food.

Came here with my boyfriend recently for some cocktails, which were refreshing and tasty and really good value!! Happened to visit when the 2 4 £10 offer on which was a bonus, as well as being served by a lovely bartender (with the dangly earring)! He made great cocktail recommendations including the Bramble and the Broke n Sloe, which taste even better than they sound! Will be coming back x

Ate here on a Saturday night for birthday celebration, the menu is different to other restaurants around , very vegetarian and vegan friendly options, lots of mac n cheese options but I found it quite difficult to find something I fancied to be honest.

Great food... In fact so good that I'm struggling to breathe now . The dirty fries were amazing, generous amount of bbq pulled pork in top that was heaven. Kid's loved the fish finger bun. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff, in a quirky independent setting. This will become a regular place for us. Bonus that they allowed dogs in one section.

My husband and I came here for an early Saturday evening dinner. We tucked ourselves into a corner and had a couple of ciders (Cornish Orchards, decent enough but a shame they weren't supporting something more local). We shared mozzarella and garlic flatbread (absolutely delicious) and my husband had ribs and taters which he loved.

Ate here before a theatre visit and it is centrally located on the cathedral green and is quite quirky with a steak and burgers menu predominantly but also some daily fresh fish options and nice local looking starters . We were in a hurry so opted for a fish pie which was tasty, full of fish, egg and creamy mashed potatoes .

Mixed feelings about both food and booze but there were some jolly people sitting out back on the Close side who made the place feel jolly enough for a pint.

We popped in here for lunch. We had pancakes (crispy bacon and maple syrup, and fruit berry) and a standard burger. The food and service were very good, the prices were what I would expect, totalling about £10 per head for food and drinks. I would visit this restaurant again.

Recommended by a local, and also serving after many places were winding down. Good range of beer and wine. Very good fish pice and greens and excellent halloumi salad. No pressure to leave even though it was getting late. You need stamina for the loos though, they are up 3 flights!

This is a very well located fast(ish) food and beer joint. Good range of local brews on tap plus excellent burgers. Had skinny fries with ours and the pilsner and IPA to wash it down. Friendly staff and great views of Exeter Cathedral meant it was a lovely evening. On nice days tressle tables overlook the cathedral green.

Looking for lunch with kids - We were warned about a potential wait but food was with us in 20 mins and was fantastic and reasonably priced

Having placed our order - just 2 simple burgers & fries we then waited - and waited - after 40 mins my husband asked if the food was coming ... oh yes it’s next !! But oh No ... 30 more mins and still no food to be told our order had been missed ( we all make mistakes so no probs) but we would be next ..... my complaint is we then watched 4 tables be served .

We've used these guys a number of times now and every time they're on the money, and that's for both couples and bigger groups.

Wow this place is worth a visit. Not an extensive menu who who cares when the foid is as good as it gets. There is a choice to suit all tastes and the quality of food is too nosh. I can recommend the halloumi and chickpea raised with rocket, corriander, veg slaw and pickled carrots in a chilli and line dressing. Add a flat bread which is served with a chilli, sesame and herb butter and this is perfection

Saturday afternoon sat in the sun opposite the cathedral. A bottle of Pinot and the Vegan mezze (I’m a million miles from vegan) - fantastic. Really tasty, fresh, light and filling. Would recommend whole heartedly.

We have been here several times for coffee and have enjoyed their flat whites - good strength and flavour. We often have their breakfasts - we are a mix of vegan, veggie and meat eaters and enjoy them all. Tonight three of us (minus the vegan) went to their mac n cheese Wednesday special - 30% off macs. Small simple mac, large mac with mushrooms and truffle oil with BIG fluffy chips, large mac with pulled pork and smokey potatoe salad - all yummy. Add three drinks and three ice-cream desserts, two with extra toppings and it all came to less than £40. Sat outside in the sun on Cathedral Green, service quick. What not to like!

I'd concur that the food was good - not spectacular - just good. However what let the establishment down was the ambience and atmosphere. I didn't expect obsequious service but it was functional rather than warming and added to the general feeling of sitting in a waiting room. I ate the standard burger, not the best in town, but adequate, with skinny fires and a soft drink. My visit was on a far from busy lunch time but the staff seemed to find service a chore, even though it's counter ordering. It's also worth mentioning that the toilets are a short route march away on the 2nd floor. Slightly disappointing.

I will be coming back here regularly, the food was delicious. The menu is extensive and included vegetarian and vegan options among the meaty dishes. I had a celeriac main that was wonderful, perfectly cooked with a range of complex and intense flavours, I need to try some of their other innovative creations. We sat at the back with a wonderful view over cathedral green and as an added bonus the tea was the best I have had in Exeter and came with a choice of non dairy milks if preferred. The service was excellent too the staff on duty really knew her menu and was helpful and friendly too. All in all a wonderful experience.

Food was lovely the Mac n cheese fritta is lovely which comes with the piggy burger (I think that was what it was called) and the wrap was delicious too. Service was great.

Was working in Exeter and whilst walking around the cathedral, found this coffee shop.

Visited for brunch with friends today: it was reasonably busy, but not full. We first ordered drinks at the bar, and these arrived very slowly in dribs and drabs. Two caffeinated lattes were brought instead of the one caffeinated and one decaf ordered; the two americanos that my husband and I ordered were completely different sizes; and the last two drinks (nothing complicated - a tea and an espresso) didn’t arrive until we reminded the staff 20 minutes later!

Myself and my partner have eaten in most places round Exeter, but hadn’t eaten here so we thought we would give it a try!! We walked in and greeted very warmly and friendly by a lady behind the bar, we found a seat and looked through the menu and boy what a selection to choose from, I chose the standard burger, my partner choosing the half rack ribs and various other sides..... Burger came out as a dbl burger very juicy and tasty but then the magic came my partners ribs..... WOW is all I can say even though they were his I had to try so meaty and very juicy & tasty and then there was the homemade beer battered onion rings.... Nom! Nom! Nom! I would have these as a meal in a larger portion on there own that’s how good they were.

We had lunch here on 20 March. Our dog was welcome. I had the root vegetable soup with brown seeded bread and butter and a pot of red berry and hibiscus tea. My husband ate a cheeseburger with salad and fries and a coffee. All excellent.

I must admit when I first walked in I wondered whether it was actually up and running as an establishment. It looked half finished. But I like to think I'm fairly eclectic in my tastes for decor, ambience and food but this place did not hit any buttons.

We visited when we had a day off. We had never been in before. We ordered the vegetarian share board, and a couple of drinks. The food was great, loads of flavour, enough that when we finished we were both full. They have a good range of different drinks and very friendly staff.

Such a great place to go. We were visiting Exeter and stumbled across South Street Standard. My family and I (2+2) had such a lovely meal here. Catered to all our tastes! Can't recommend it highly enough.

Ordered fish pie which looked great off the menu had one prawn in it and the rest was salmon in a sauce which had separated and wasn’t particularly pleasant..

Stumbled upon this place early eve on a busy Saturday with our 3 eldest children. Having not booked anywhere we struggled to find somewhere to get in. They opened up their conference room at the top of the building which was just perfect & totally private. Service, despite being 3 floors up, was fantastic as was the food. Great teamwork guys you should be proud of yourselves with you fantastic attitude & service. A rare gem.

Came across this place when attending a lindyhop social in their top function room. I must have walked past it a lot but never noticed it before! The menu looked great so we went back the next day for lunch. The food was reasonably priced and delicious - we had a sharing fish plate which was plenty for two with moules, whitebait, breaded cod on some fantastically vivid crushed green peas, prawn and chorizo kebabs with chips, salad and sourdough bread. We sat with a lovely view of the cathedral and the staff were very friendly. There was a lot of interesting sounding dishes on the menu so we'll definitely be back.

Came here for lunch and found the lunch time deal was a nice surprise had the veggie wrap and chips alot bigger than I was expecting and so tasty! The only thing I would have to say is that it was very chilly in here I had to keep my coat on!

2nd review of this place. Good food again, but double G&T; served in a table water glass, with tonic from the tap. Bit of a let down from such an 'on trend' place. Expensive drink, that should be served better. If you pay top price, put the drinks in a proper glass?

The meal we had here this evening was fantastic. The staff were helpful and friendly and happily booked us last minute. The stout was lovely and the Trufolini cocktail was divine. We shared a meat platter and it was really tasty with melt in the mouth smoky pulled pork, ribs, ham hock fritter, chicken, sourdough bread plus salad and chips. This was all good value for money and we were really full. Wish we lived closer! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Myself and my husband were visiting my daughter in Exeter as an early birthday celebration for myself, she had booked us a table at the Terrace, after 15 minutes of no service and overwhelming noise we left, and she walked us round to South Street and thank goodness!! My daughter had been here on the opening night and assured us it was the place to be for foodies like ourselves and knew exactly what she was having... Mac P.I.G, this gastronomic delight is listed under ‘Sandwiches’ let me tell you, so there is no confusion , “it is not a sandwich!” Neither is the amazing Ottoman wrap stuffed with roasted cauliflower, halloumi, butter bean houmous and tahini that I succumbed to! my husband had the rack of ribs and was very happy! The service is simple and not at all fussy, you order at the bar and my daughter carried our tray of drinks up to the first floor where we were eating, so like I said “it’s just all about the food!” Interesting, tasty, generous, and reasonably priced, We will definitely be returning next time we are over. My only concern is on a Saturday night it wasn’t that busy... does the rest of Exeter know about the place? I think maybe not !
