Food is fairly standard but in amazing location. Service is fairly ordinary - help yourself and queue up for the team to stop talking to each other long enough to take your order. Pleasant enough but was special is no longer.

Disappointing meal complained and told bill would be adjusted Only deducted gratuity We felt this was an insult. We had to ask twice to see the manager Eventually she turned up but did not understand our complaint saying that their food had a good reputation. She was reluctant to give more than 15pc but eventually we agreed to 50pc for one meal and 15pc for the other A totally unsatisfactory experience

The food and service were excellent. The staff are friendly and professional. A special shout out to Anna and Tom in the bar, who served us. I had Toms cocktail . Best cocktail I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this place.

Come here for the views as on a nice day it is delightful to dine overlooking the beach. My wife had the crab linguine. It was edible, but was smoothed in sauce. Less sauce and more crab would have done the trick. I had the monkish in curry and rice special. The dish was well prepared and tasted good, but the curry sauce overwhelmed the flavor of of the monkfish. All you got from the fish was firm texture.

Fantastic experience as non residents.Went for food & drinks there three times during our week's stay in Salcombe. We found the staff so polite, knowledgeable & professional. The food was great with a relaxed feel & our server Millie was brilliant!! Hope to be back next year this time as residents.

3 nights at South Sands Hotel was just the best weekend break we could have imagined. Everything we look for scored at least 10 out of 10: Location; Service; Ambiance; Comfort; Food; View; and especially the very friendly staff. Already thinking about a return trip!!

An excellent hotel and truly dog friendly. If you want to treat your pooch to the best then South Sands could be it. Right on a dog friendly beach (but not 1/5 to 30/9). Lovely touches like free dog towels in the reception, dog blankets in the lounge and bar and dogs can join their owners in the restaurant.

Didn't stay at the hotel but nipped in for Cream Tea one afternoon and then dinner another day. Staff were very friendly and they remembered us from a couple of days before. Food was amazing and would definitely recommend booking just in case. Will be going again on next visit

Impeccable service, from the welcome at the desk through dinner, the bar and at breakfast ALL members of the team are to be congratulated. In a setting where you’re right on the beach - who could want for more? Big shout to the chefs and management for great food and for me, importantly, good sized portions!! Well done and thank you!

Tried this instead of our (newer, swankier, expensive, characterless) hotel over the road. Really glad we did. Friendly ‘normal’ staff, good food, generous portions, nice atmosphere. Would recommend, and hopefully stay here in the future if we come again, having tried both ‘Harbour’ hotels… Also this was the first night they reopened after their flooding experience. Very happy to support them. They’ve done a fantastic job, hotel was absolutely tip top. Good luck to them all going forward

Had meat and veggie burgers with fries and a few beers, service excellent, value is a bit pricey but that’s the market. Atmosphere good, location can’t be beaten and we have returned a couple of times. Defo recommend.

My wife and I were staying in a hotel just across the road. The meals at our own hotel were variable in quality so we tried the South Sands restaurant for one lunch, an afternoon tea and one evening meal. All were of excellent quality and served by friendly and efficient staff. For lunch, we had crab sandwiches on granary bread, for afternoon tea we had finger sandwiches together with cakes and scones and jam. For dinner, I had a crab bisque starter followed by an amazing hot seafood platter including langoustines, prawns, scallops and mussels. My wife had mackerel pâte followed by a very good crab linguine. For us, the only downside was that dogs were positively encouraged in the dining room - although we recognise that this would be a positive factor for many. Without that downside the restaurant would deserve 5 stars.

Had really nice meals and would highly recommend but they have a strange set up if you eat out on the balcony. You have to order at the hatch rather than table service. Other than that, the food is first class

The staff were very helpful especially with the needs of the children. The Kids food arrived first and then they were happy for our choices to take longer. It was informal and relaxed place to eat with family. The food was delicious and arrived hot to the table and was reasonably priced. They were super helpful with dietary needs. I would thoroughly recommend for a lovely meal out.

Wonderful service. Excellent food. Can’t wait to return but sadly already full for the duration of our visit. That’s the sign of a good restaurant! Couldn’t choose out of two starters so ordered them both. Wasn’t disappointed. Mackerel patè and scallops. Mussels for main. Lovely bottle of Cloudy Bay. Superb!

Just pop in for a coffee and croissant when I'm in town, good service, nice to sit and people watch, not too overly hot like some cafes are, and not too busy.

Me and my partner went here for dinner. We got a jacket potato with cheese and it was brown and grey all the way through and it looked like it had been dropped it was nearly completely flattened. I had cheesy chips and it looked like half of my chips was from the bottom of the fryer they was nearly completely empty and had no potato in them at all they was just crunchy like crisps. Very disappointed and the meal came to £12 so was expecting it to be at least edible.

Went with grandchildren for a treat we ordered children meals mashed potato was not very tasty tasted more like powdered. The sausage was overall okay, but the pub needs a clean and decoration needed badly , the pub is more for drinker's than a family pub. The staff are pleasant and friendly.
