South Ocean in Southampton

Been ordering for yrs but will not from now on I live 10 minutes away and 1.5 hours later and still no food

Amazing food,great service as usual

Chow mien was cold and cooked in a funky tasting oil, lots of noodles and no veg and hard chicken, sweet sour chicken soggy sauce way too sweet. Came very quick but never order from you again. Dinner in the bin.

First time, delicious simple pork rice!

the spicy food is inedible it is ridiculously hot. everywhere else that shows a one pepper sign is a little bit spicy. This is the second dish like this we have had to throw away

Ordered from here on July the 4th and my sok had food poisoning from mussels in black bean sauce and all they could say was sorry and we could have one free dish won't be going there again always used that place but not no more don't recommend the place unless u want food poisoning

Decent little Chinese this, better than other ones I've tried in Southampton.

Wouldn’t recommend and would never eat here again. We ordered take away. The food came very quickly. The food was burnt inedible and had to be thrown away. When I called to express my displacement. I was told to choose something else. The person then decided I couldn’t have what I had asked for and that there was a price discrepancy so I told them not to bother. Customer services 0/5 the food was awful a waste. I do NOT recommend this place at all.

Very bland indeed. Spicy dishes had no chilli in, hardly any beef in the curry but all sauce. Only good thing-pancake rolls were large but had hard type cabbage in them 🤔 overpriced for what it was. Not impressed

Ordered a gourmet platter. And only half was edible. The sweet and sour sauce was thick and gloopy, the spare ribs were dried and over cooked. The chicken wings were the same very very disappointing meal :-(

The Kung Po chicken tasted of cheese, and the lemon chicken was just chicken in lemon curd. The duck in plum sauce was delicious and the satay chow Mein was great, but was all spoiled by the cheese tasting chicken.

Forgotten item - pancakes for duck ☹️

The kung po beef sauce was like jelly, to the point you could cut it with a knife and fork. Salt and pepper chicken was nice but the beef let it down massively as I couldn’t eat it. Not appetising in the slightest

Order regularly from here and the food is typically very good BUT, tonight we ordered online via their own website (not Just Eat). An hour after placing the order we called to see where it was, they had the order in front of them but hadn’t checked if there were any online orders waiting! So the first they knew about our order was an hour after we placed it. No apology, no customer recovery or part refund offered! Just…. ‘It’ll be half an hour’! In fairness the food IS usually very good! But that is absolutely ridiculous and we’ll likely not bother using them again unless they respond to this review and offer something for their mess up!

What a let down! The food was too salty, there was hardly any prawns in the chow mein, the fried prawns were salty and rock hard and if ,a while ago the meat was served on a bed of varied vegetables, now it is only onions. The price is high but what is served is an untalented cheap meal.

SO good! My Dads been getting pancake rolls from takeaways for years and he said these were nicest he’s had. The tofu was incredible and the prawns were perfectly cooked and CLEAN! (unlike some takeaways!)

I hate to complain about it being early as the food was great as usual, but 45 mins earlier than the app said it would turn up, meant we weren't ready for it so had to eat it cold. Still, better than cold and late so not too upset about it.

Waited 90 minutes and when arrived the order was wrong. Refused to change as apparently too busy. Had no choice but to serve it up. Absolutely tasteless bland rubbish. Fast to take the money but refuses to put it right. Ended up in the bin. Total waste of time and money. Will never use again. 1 star is 1 star too many. 👎🏼

Probably the worst Chinese takeaway I’ve had. The food was delivered in a pizza box. All thrown in together. Taste was awful and it was pretty cold on arrival

Curry was amazing! Chicken fried rice great! Chips were good. Pancakes, Onion and Cucumber were fine. Duck sadly had bones throughout it.

I've been using this Chinese for the last 10 years & have never had a bad meal! Highly recommended. Especially the mussels if you love seafood, they're amazing!

Order regularly from this place and always spend over the amount for free prawn crackers, yet once again none delivered! Chips were awful and must have been refried more than once. The rice was good but the main dish was ok! May go elsewhere from now on.

Good tasty food and all delivered even sooner than hoped

After 25+ yrs using Portswood Takeaway their retirement forced our hand so after many poor local experiences we tried South Ocean & have to say other than occasional issues with temputure the food is excellent, freshly cooked & decent chicken breast in Curries etc. Those polystyrene hot boxes could help if multiple deliveries.

Absolutely flawless, food was hot when it arrived and it was delivered on time/slightly early. Great flavour on all of the items that we ordered, we will be ordering again.

It was ok, not much I can praise because the fried squid was so salty that just barely eatable, a lot of onions and just few spring onions. Is the sheaf checking the food before seasoning!? Sweet and sour king prawns- sauce was ok, but the prawns batter was hard and stodgy. Rice- average. I’m far from impressed.

Really lovely food. We ordered similar dishes to what we've had at other restaurants but this one had some lovely and surprising twists to their version. Will definitely use them again.

This is actually a restaurant which serves really good food, so don't be put off by its appearance. Its food is consistently decent and I can't say that for a lot of other restaurants.

Overall this is a good Chinese and we order from here very often. On a rare occasion the food is not fantastic, for example you can tell the chips or chicken balls had gone cold or from earlier in the night and they have been refried. Chips are then so dry and no fluffy potato inside. The salt and pepper chicken can be hit and miss, sometimes it just tastes of salt and with hardly any vegetables - then other items it’s so well seasoned, saucy and tastes amazing! The curry is good, always ask for it hot (spicy) for added flavour. The beef here is very good, always cooked well and soft and tender. Have tried many dishes and overall all very good. Like I said there are some hit and miss times but that’s to be expected. If ordering at the weekend always order early if you can or the wait can be up to 2 hours for delivery, but if you can collect you can do so within about 20 minutes of placing your order. We will continue to order with South Ocean, and it is definitely the best in the area.

Whilst you can expect some delays on Christmas Eve, 2 hours 40 minutes is an atrocious time to wait, particularly as the app was suggesting the meal was already delivered. After a call to the virtually constantly engaged phone line, we were asked if we could collect our order after paying for delivery! While at the take away, a delivery driver was on his phone saying that there was a 3 hour wait for deliveries. South Ocean should not take orders they cannot fulfil in good time The only saving grace was the meal was okay, but due to the shambles, I’ll not order from this vendor again. Avoid.
