We don't go so much since the restaurant offers on the app have changed. Now finding other places with better offers. The cake is definitely getting smaller. We think it's funny how they try to make the cake look bigger by putting it on smaller plates. The coffee could be better. The staff are lovely particularly in the restaurant. Toby and kiera are always happy to help. Plenty to see as this is one of the bigger garden centres. A good selection of products.

So as part of their ongoing commitment to offering great value and rewarding loyalty, Tates has listened to customer feedback and made some improvements to Tates Rewards. As such they are stopping the weekly Buy One Get One Free hot drink offer and you now have to buy 9 hot drinks and get the 10th free. I cannot believe that customer feedback suggested this as an improved offer. It is clearly nothing more than a measure intended to increase profitability and a slap in the face for customer loyalty. Pretending that this is what customers prefer is disgraceful, underhand and a complete lie

Garden centre is fine, but the restaurant and coffee bar is chaotic. There are generally massive queues and the ordering system is a shambles. The staff are lovely and the food is good, but badly let down by the systems in place. We’ve often gone for food and left due to the queues and waiting times.

Visited with my wife. Kiera is very polite and helpful, she never takes offence if you have a complaint. Sally made me a lovely Mocha. My wife said her Americano was better than usual. Although very busy Sally made time to talk to my wife and I. Very disappointed with the cleanliness of glasses. (Photos) We always take wipes to clean cutlery and glasses. A new dish washer is needed I think. Love the app and the offers, it definitely keeps us coming

I love pies! My favourite is steak and kidney. Yesterday I purchased two steak and kidney pies from the fresh food counter, which my wife and I had for dinner. The pastry had such a strong taste of butter that it was inedible. There was not a single piece of kidney in either pie, or even a flavour of kidney. The consistency of the filling was ok but there was an unpleasant, artificial taste to it. Honestly the worst meat pie I have eaten. It has certainly put me off buying any more goods from the fresh food counter.

Visited with my wife. Mocha - nice. Americano - nice. Carrot and orange cake - dry and crumbly. Fortunately Olivia was kind enough not only to give us a listening ear but also took the cake back, returned with flapjack (which we asked for) and apologized when it wasn't even her fault. She didn't make the cake. Great customer service.

Nice, large garden centre. Lots to see as these places seem to sell more than just gardening bits. The restaurant let's it down as they always run out of fruit scones, the pieces of cake are getting smaller and smaller and the coffee is terrible. I think we will stick with old barn nurseries. Hands cross.

Nice place to have a wander around, as most garden centres it is expensive. They have a loyalty card which gives some good offers and often take advantage of a buy one get one free coffee. Plants we have had from here have grown well. We prefer to sit outside with a coffee and there is quite a bit of space except at the rear they have installed a really annoying kids zone animal which plays a song!! Fine if you have younger children to entertain. Queues at tills can be slow in the main shop but in the food shopping area, service is quick and like the butter zone and pasties etc, the sausages are lovely! All in all we enjoy a visit here to see what new things they have on offer. Best of the 3 tates centres in the area in our opinion.

Visited here for lunch with wife and grandson. We all opted for the breakfast bap with 2 rashers of bacon and a fried egg. It arrived quickly but was surprised when my 12 year old grandson said he didn't like the taste as he really likes bacon. My wife said it had a strange taste and I have to agree with her. It was a soapy taste which was not very nice at all. At a cost of £18.75 for 3 bacon baps, 2 teas and a bottle of coke it was a big disappoinment. As we visit this garden centre quite frequently I'll have to remember to avoid this. On our way out of the centre I paid a visit to the gents and that too could be improved as it stunk in there. They really need some air freshners in there where as all they had was a reed diffuser which was empty. Maybe we shall have to avoid this place in future.

Today I went to Tates with my family. I had an Egg Mayo Sandwich, I started eating the sandwich then checked inside & see several green parasites crawling on the leaves that were inside the sandwich. They were not apologetic, only offered to refund the sandwich. Tiny green long parasites, which I’m sure some people would not see. Salad had obviously not been cleaned. BEWARE they use this salad on plates as garnish as well. Absolutely disgusting 🤮

Both times we were served as soon as we sat down so the food must have been pre-cooked. The chips were soggy and very few on the plate both times and the eggs cold and over cooked and the burger the last time seemed tike it was one that had been left over and cooked again to warm it up, as even my dog would have had trouble eating it. We spoke to a waitress who was not interested. So we filled in a complaint form each and they have not even replied to us. Avoid at all costs!

Accepting that a bank holiday lunchtime is a busy time but there is no excuse for not charging the customer correctly. The order was not that difficult, two coffees and two panini's and I hope that I can still add four figures up in my head. The first attempt overcharged me by over £3. The second then increased that to an over-charge of £9. Eventually another member of staff stepped in and got it right. When asked as to why it was wrong no explanation. The young assistant looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Very rude customer behind me complaining that I was holding her up did not help. Well if I was charged correctly I would not have held her up. Would she overpay ? This to me appears to be another example of an outlet using young staff who cannot seem to cope or sadly add up. To me it is a short-sighted policy.

On ordering we were told that they had "run out" of scones. Not wanting a larger cake we ordered just a drink of tea. Whilst this was very nice, I noticed that my teapot lid was chipped. On closer inspection, it was quite badly cracked. Not what I would expect from a place like this.In the garden centre itself, prices were on the whole dear. I recognised many things, which would be available at far nearer their recommended retail price, than they are here.

We found a shard of glass at the bottom of my glass which i had just finished drinking from. We spoke to the supervisor and told her, she then called the manager. The manager came over without apologising and said it could happen to anyone. We were speechless and then she said, with an attitude, that there was nothing she could do (to prevent it happening). So we suggested that maybe an apology would be a good idea. Eventually, as she walked away, she unconvincingly said sorry. This not the first time there has been an issue here. 10 .30 is late for the coffee shop to open and early to close at 3.00. Quite a few people waiting for coffee shop to open at 10.20. Female assistant standing with her arms folded looking miserable. Why was it not opened with a queue of people.?You welcome dogs and provide somewhere to sit outside , but if you are on your own you cannot have anything to eat or drink. Look at Rushfields they have dedicated staff for their outside area complete with canopy and gas heater.. Prefer to eat there and meet friends.

We love this garden centre. Always interesting, reasonably priced items in the shop. Plenty of plants/pots/sheds to look at. Pet section is well stocked. The best bit is the lovely restaurant. Food is excellent, decor impressive and service very good. The round tables with 4 chairs are too small, try to get a square table! I can recommend the ham and cheese toastie.., delicious! Lots of cakes to choose from, reasonably priced, generous sizes. Car park is large. Toilets at the entrance, in the restaurant and in the little gallery.

Ordered the restaurant breakfast option. It arrived with food just warm & plate stone cold. I expect any restaurant that's taking my hard-earned money to get this very basic requirement right. Surely it shouldn't be difficult in this day & age for a fairly new restaurant with its equally fairly new kitchens to get this aspect right - should it ??... Yours, Very Disappointed.

My first visit to the cafe and I 'll be back. Lovely purpose-built with high ceilings and beautiful beams. Enormous cafe with good menu. Very smart furnishings and food arrived quickly during busy Sunday lunch. Had to queue to order. Lots to see in the garden centre. Very relaxing visit.

Have been looking for a lit blossom festive tree so my wife and I decided to stop at this garden centre .The car park was particularly very busy .at the front was a very well stocked green grocers with good produce .We entered the establishment and was greeted by a member of staff who was very courteous and knowledgeable about the products that this store stocked. We told him what we were looking for and he led the way to where the item was.We chose the tree and he very kindly took it to the till area for us .The name of that staff member was Adrian Obrian I would like to thank him for a great experience of south downs nurseries. And also Stephen w/o served at the till .Our thanks Chris and Sharon

South Downs garden centre has always been a mish mosh of garden centre fare. Fresh fruit and veg at the front (pretty good value), crazy Christmas display at this time of year, pets section has some unusual stuff and is great for kids, plants are very good, garden statues section is pretty extreme.By far the best thing though (when it's not too busy) is the new barn that has been built at the rear which contains an awesome (if expensive) deli, space for local artists and some permanent/temporary displays, and a spacious and well stocked restaurant...not cheap but definitely a good place to come for tea or a snack. Indoor and outdoor seating and lots of it.

The Barn cafe at the garden centre is a great place to meet. Lovely clean and friendly environment. The negative for me may be through the choices that I made on the food. My toastie had a bit of a strange taste and the soup was a bit gloopy. However many people were tucking in and obviously enjoying their food so I think I must give it the benefit of the doubt. As I said, it's a good central place to meet so I will be back again.

My Husband and I were given a voucher for a cream tea because of an incident we were involved in at the Garden Centre. We were very grateful and yesterday we went to have our cream tea. Wherever I have had cream teas before they have consisted of sandwiches, cakes, scones and a pot of tea. The service was appalling. One girl was more concerned with eating and drinking herself. Another member of staff was shouting through an opening to find out what the customers wanted. After handing over the voucher I was told to put two scones, butter and jam on two plates. Another member of staff made a pot of tea for us. When we sat down I realised there was no cream. I went back and found some clotted cream at the end of its sell by date. I was a bit worried as it had a crust on the top. The whole thing was a shambles. Sort your staff out and advertise your cream teas as scones and a pot of tea please!!!!

Fortunate to live very close by, I walk with my dogs here four times a week. You can walk as far or a short a distance and the scenery is never the same two days in a row. Often walk from the Jack and Jill Windmills to Devils Dyke and back which is around a 12 mile walk. Early in the morning and at dusk you often see deer, and birds of prey can be seen at anytime. If you are new to the South Downs, would advise caution before letting them off lead if taking dogs until you are sure there are no sheep or cattle grazing close by. I have also over the years ridden horses across the Downs, and there are some great rides and trails for horse riders.

We often visit South Downs for a breakfast on a Monday morning and it's always very good. Good sized portions and well cooked. You can ask for your egg to be just as you like it. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful plus the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is also great. It feels a very friendly and relaxed plact to eat. They also have toys for children and wi-fi.

I don't know how they made my vegan plate of just straight up veggies taste so good, but they did. You know it's a proper chef when they can do that. Highly impressed with the depth of flavour!
