Just had a mildly hot breakfast, first fried egg was cold second one came within minutes but not hot. Whole breakfast was mediocre, would not try it again. Need to serve hot food not warm food.

Lovely place to visit please to see and a good place to eat good food at a reasonable price.

So many things to see .unfortunately they only sell small fish here now .But have a fabulous restaurant and a great server named Kelly and was very happy and helpful to us.

Really good garden centre. Always have friendly staff. Fantastic selection of plants available at good prices. Good range of homeware to browse through. The food hall sell the best pies! Highly recommend.

If garden centres are your thing, then this one does not disappoint, plenty to view for inside or outside the home.

Spacious and clean. There are many different types of products and plants for sale and they are not that expensive. It's worth a visit even if you don't have to buy anything. It's so good that you can just think of it as a visit to a botanical garden or arboretum. The food, including cakes, is clean, cheap, and delicious. Overall, it was nice to have a lot of space, including the botanical garden, cafe, and parking lot.

This place has got far too big for my liking. It is difficult to find what you want. On the plus side, there is plenty of variety. Edit: the layout has improved vastly since my last comment & they still have a large variety of everything.

I always enjoy my visits here . Lots of choice and not too expensive.

The biggest garden centre I have ever been to. You name it , they sell it. Not just garden needs, but cheeses, butchery, delicatessen, chocolate, fish , fruit and veg etc , etc

Really lovely place. Sells pretty much anything. Cafes are always very busy and have loooong queues. Especially beautiful at Christmas. Also they have a nice little children's play area outside.

First visit today , wow ! Place is huge inside you could never tell from the road how big it is. They have an extensive range of plants flowers garden furniture, a cafe, kids play area, a on site shop, home furnishings, pet supplies it goes on and on. We will come back! Food was okay.. cake was not as nice as it looked unfortunately but the kids meal was decent enough.

Today myself and my partner decided to come to this garden centre as we heard their breakfast was great. But we both came out very disappointed in the breakfast and the cleanliness of the glasses and mugs. We both ordered the bigger breakfast mine with scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, the order took about 10 minutes to come out but the scrambled eggs was a terrible portion size, overcooked and dry rubbery consistency. The bacon was smoked which was not mentioned on the menu it also came out cold and had probably been sat on the counter precooked for hours. An extra thing to mention is that the breakfast doesn't come with toast as you have to order that separately at the price of £1.75 for 2 slices of toast. Now I'm not sure if their dishwasher was broken or was hand washing the glasses that we used for water, but they were all horribly stained and I had to check about ten of them before finding a clean one. The mug I got for a pot of tea had lipstick stains on it not from myself or my partner. This means they obviously haven't cleaned sufficiently. They looked like they hadn't been washed.

We have just enjoyed a lovely lunch in the cafe. The service was super friendly, the food was delivered to our table very quickly despite the place being busy. It arrived hot and was a decent sized portion too. Wide range of dishes including soup, sandwiches, cakes, jacket potatoes, fish and chips as well as a roast dinner! Indoor and out door seating with a children's play area outside too. Dog friendly. It's worth taking some time to walk around the museum and to check out the busy bees in their hive.

I had a cream tea today for my birthday with a friend. Lovely friendly staff. Lots of great food. Had to bring some home. Would definitely recommend as a place to come to and have a delicious cream tea.

Lovely big, airy, and extensive garden centre with something for everyone. Cafe is busy and popular with plenty of choice, from full English to tea and cakes.

Extremely well stocked and a lovely shop, coffee shop and a small museum of country life

It's hard for me to confront what a grandad I've become. My wife and I took our 21 month-old granddaughter here, and she loved it more than I thought possible. It was a better day out than a lot of places that charge entrance — garden ornaments, café, playground... brilliant!

We bought a bench for my workplace, friendly and helpful staff. Great service, thank you!

Regularly go to South Downs for plants & gardening supplies, but also almost always eat at the cafe for Lunch, Lite Bites, or today Breakfast! Always friendly, efficient, and good food in the cafe with a fresh selection of yummy cakes too!

Always a good place to visit for ex Ellen food and drinks as well as the well looked after plants and good general shopping experience for home and garden. Excellent parking and clean toilets

I love it here and was excited to take my mum out shopping to pick out some things for her birthday, however the whole few hours and few hundred pounds I spent was ruined towards the end of the visit by the older gentleman staff member who stated at us for a good 20 minutes while we browsed the candles and wax melts and who then came over to tell the cashier something in code whilst staring at us as I entered my pin.. When I made a joke about him watching us for ages and asked what he had said, he became very aggressive in his tone and body language but as I was there with my children, including my 3 week old baby I just walked off as he continued to try and say things to me. So not rushing back anytime soon ☺️

A lovely place to buy anything to do with plants and gardening. Huge selection of gifts and a great place to browse and enjoy a coffee or a meal in their cafe.

A very large range of items for sale many you would not have thought of finding. The staff are very helpful, thanks to them all.

I love Tates/ South Downs - the centre is so well kept and every member of staff is friendly and welcoming - quite unusual for a big business. Always an enjoyable experience, and good to see what unusual and interesting objects their buyers have managed to source next. Writing this whilst listening to my newest acquisition - a Christmas present I didn't know I needed - a modern, stylised cuckoo clock which, common for Tates, was £20 cheaper than the same clock sourced online. Large car park and lots of concessions instore, too. I don't normally write reviews of garden centres but thought T-SD and staff deserved the praise

Lots to see and buy. The cafe is great. They do a gluten free selection. I recommend it here.

Had a lovely lunch in cafe , super friendly staff . We had taken our rescue 4 months old on her first outing and she received lots of attention 😊 Unfortunately just before the checkout We had a accident wee , which I promptly cleaned up as I had come prepared Puppy pads disinfection wipes only to be confronted by the rudeness member of staff lecturing me in exercising my dog before entering garden centre, I explained I had cleaned it all up and had all dirty wipes and pads in my handbag , this miserable woman then proceeded in such a rude belittling manner about how I hadn’t reported the incident, I had to point out we had only taken 2 steps before she launch her attack on us . The manager then appeared and apologised for her behaviour . Come on Haskins please use this as a customer training opportunity , As you are advertising dog friendly environment, and I had been responsible and clean it up !!☹️☹️☹️

We come here quite often, and the staff are always really friendly, but I just had to give a special shoutout to Logan! He went out of his way to help my clueless self understand the basics of houseplant care for beginners—absolute lifesaver lol. It was a busy Sunday afternoon, but he still took the time to help me and my girlfriend figure out which plants are best for beginners and how to take care of them. Honestly, such a lovely guy. Just wanted to give him the recognition he deserves!

It's my favourite place to shop for growing salad and veg. Brilliant selection of trees, Acers, Climbers and Roses. Lovely coffee shop and deli, although their coffee cake today was hard and stale and did not taste of coffee! They often have the plants I am looking for, that I can not find in other garden centres. Helpful staff. They have a huge selection of house plant pots, but the inner plastic pots are the other end of the building, and you struggle to find the right size plastic pot for the beautiful ceramic pot. You need to stock more sizes and shapes of plastic pots, and they need to be next to the ceramic pots. Drove me mad today, walking backwards and forwards.

Went to the restaurant for a late lunch and it was great. Staff always friendly in restaurant area.

Good but staff seem to be dealing with internal issues rather than serving customers. We noticed this twice today where staff ignored paying customers to do other stuff..

Been coming here for years now, lovely garden centre with gorgeous Christmas decorations but the food in the cafe is appalling. Went for a breakfast today and yet again the food was so cold and has been the last few times we have visited. Once we did send the eggs back and they gave us fresh ones because they were so cold. I wish I had had the balls to send my food back today

Goods here are not cheapest but also not tge most expensive!! Good quality goods!

Lovely Christmas products, lots of them and wonderful just to look round. Good plants as well, lovely museum display of lawnmowers over time. Also very good cafe.

Visited Santa last year, with my family, including my 2 year old grandaughter. It was beautifully done; a lovely experience. Have also visited here to meet family. The food in both the coffee shop and main restaurant is good. The latter has lovely gluten free cakes. Also love the shop near the coffee shop: an excellent place to look for unusual presents!

Great food, great staff always polite and friendly, nice place to visit

Lovely garden centre. Coffee shop was very disorganised, very slow to make coffees, teas etc causing a crowd of customers to hover around the counter waiting for their purchases. Scones were rock hard and as dry as an old bone. The toilets by the main entrances were absolutely stinking and no toilet paper available.

Cheesy chips were soggy. When we pointed out to A staff member a broken glass bauble on the floor, it was looked at and left. A few minutes later children were picking it up with the staff member tidying boxes..not very health and safety...wasn't impressed.

Great place to visit, lots of things to look at and arranged very well. Staff are all very helpful and all smart and in a uniform, you know who works there, unlike other places that don't have a uniform.

Absolutely dreadful food at the restaurant. A tuna and cheese panini was a bit of old dry bread toasted with a bit of cheese stuck on the outside, hardly any tuna. When we complained we were told it was a rustic panini! The coffee was luke warm too. The cakes seemed like they were put out from the day before. I would avoid eating at the restaurant unless you want a bit of dry cake , dry bread and luke warm coffee .

Love this place. One of my favourite garden centres. Christmas especially is my favourite time to go. Staff are brilliant, knowledgable and so kind. Dog friendly and good at the cafe is tasty and all products and food are well priced and fair. Definitely worth visiting them for food or an adventure to the GC!

Absolutely brilliant so much to find there and actually they have some really good quality items. From garden to home stuff. I personally can’t fault it at all. Alyways got something nice from there and service it’s great, friendly group of people.

My first day here. I loved the kind girl cashier who agreed to serve us English breakfast. We were 5 mins late. Thanks a lot- we travelled a long distance to dine here. Good good and kind staff - served very well

Great garden centre has everything you want in a garden centre and more, also dog friendly so that's always winning for me!

The cafe is a green oak traditional structure and a delight in modern times. A good range of snacks and meals at moderate prices, service is always very quick.

A great range of indoor and outdoor plants in excellent condition and reasonably priced. Huge range of various merchandise - too numerous to list, so I suggest you visit for yourself! Nice restaurant to have a coffee and a munch on a very tasty pastie.

They have everything but please, don't do Christmas in October.

Great high end nursery, lots of garden products Inc furniture and BBQs in addition to a massive array of plants and shrubs. The cafe and restaurant are spectacular and well worth a visit on their own merits.

They used to like dogs as any respectable garden center should but things have changed. If you have a dog do not bring it here as its not welcome. There are signs everywhere stating. PAWS ON THE FLOOR. YAP OUTSIDE. ALL DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON A SHORT LEAD. IF YOU ALLOW YOUR DOG TO URINATE YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Passive aggression is never a good idea to subject your customers too if you want them to keep coming.

The good: lots of parking, clean toilets and friendly staff. The bad: walking around, I noted a lot of items here are more expensive than many other local suppliers. From plants to souvenirs. It seems the setup is to be a 'member' to get prices back towards the standard abd feel you are getting a genuine discount. The ugly: if you are celiac (coeliac), gluten intolerant, or have a serious food allergy. Avoid the cafe at all costs!! Despite their menu's looking appealing and catering for gluten-free, their staff are clueless. I visited here yesterday and was seriously ill afterwards from being glutened. Anyone not aware of how being glutened works - when a celiac consumes gluten, it causes unbearable stomach pains, including vomiting etc, which (in my case) goes on for hours. The duration and sensitivity varies between individuals and the amount you consume, but the damage is done to the small intestine where the gluten burns the villi and stops your body from properly being able to absorb nutrients etc until your gut has recovered- means feeling weak and often lethargic for days. For some people this can take affect within minutes, for myself, about an hour or 2. How do I know it was from here- this was the only place I ate/drank anything from that day. I found out from another celiace member of family that the kitchen staff sell gluten free toast, but use the same toaster as regular bread!! They have zero idea on cross contamination or food allergies. Looks like a nice cafe if you can eat anything. For people with allergies - AVOID!!! I hate having to leave this review, but I don't want any other celiacs to suffer like I am. Please learn and train your staff at South Downs Nurseries.

Well stocked and food value. Staff slightly hit or miss in terms of helpfulness. Found what I wanted and didn't pay as much as I would have at Dobbies (or other nurseries nearby)

Best Garden center I've ever been to! Plenty of stock. Art and craft supplies, furniture, pet supplies, books, gifts. Has a Regatta and Craghoppers outdoor clothing section. Helpful staff. Staff work really hard to keep things tidy. Plants healthy. The restaurant food is amazing. Lovely selection of cakes. Would recommend the cooked breakfast. Food comes out so quick. Tables are always clean. Seating areas indoors and outdoors. When sunny weather it's nice to sit outdoors. There is also a playground for kids. Dog friendly they supply water bowls. Garden center also sells fresh baked goods and wine in the food section. There is also an art gallery and museum section. Great day out for family or visiting alone. Peaceful atmosphere. Relaxing music is played in the store.

Fantastic garden centre with so much to browse and purchase. Will definitely visit again when I visit family in Brighton. I live 135 miles away, so it's a little too far for regular visit. If I was closer it would be one of my go to places.

Superb.....all you could want and more. The plants are of good quality and healthy, with friendly, helpful staff ...plus good wide selection of food available in the restaurant. Ample parking and wheelchair friendly all around.

It's a Tates garden centre. Can't go wrong. Excellent selection of plants, v nice restaurant, plus all the usual gardening equipment for sale. Not forgetting the gardening machinery museum.

A very welcoming centre, great selection of garden and outdoor furniture. Pets are also well supplied before you get to the extensive gardening section. Finished with a good choice of food and drink, a must visit.

Exceptional garden centre; whatever I need, I seem to always be able to get in there, whether it's plants, bbq stuff, garden lights, gifts, it's not cheap but always good quality. Playground for kids a nice touch and the restaurant is great for both breakfast and lunch. We recently bought some garden furniture which again has proved to be great quality and we've been really pleased with it. There are some really good garden centres in the mid sussex area, however I think this one is probably the best.

Terrific choice for vegans - including delicious cakes. Great service; plenty of inside and outside seating. Highly recommended.

A lovely garden centre with plenty of parking. There's a small playground which was enjoyed by my toddler. Food from the cafe is also good. The cakes look delicious. Staff are kind and friendly and took time to acknowledge my toddler.

Really nice garden centre with a good choice of garden paraphernalia as well as furniture and other mixed items. Nice little museum of lawn mowers! Two cafes and nice little food shop. One cafe does full food options, the other snacks, cakes, pastries. And the nice thing is they feel very different in atmosphere. Always consistent

Super nursery, highly recommend the smaller cafe near the vintage mower exhibition , super sausage rolls in many flavours. Staff super friendly and a great atmosphere as you’re discussing which Begonia will look nice in your garden.

My first visit, its an absolutely fabulous nursery. There were so many things to look at, gifts, garden furniture, ornaments, clothing, handbags, plants, the list goes on and on. Even the art gallery was wonderful. We had lunch in the cafe which is very popular and understandable so. The food was delicious, nicely presented, and the wait reasonable. I loved the decor, the beams and lighting were stunning. We are definitely going again, and it's inspired me for Christmas gifts. I could spend hours in there, no wonder the carpark is so large! I'm sure others feel the same 😃

Went to use the car wash & get some lunch whilst waiting. Service in the coffee shop was slow. No vegan desert available. Looked around the indoor displays they looked "tired". I normally use Tates at Hassocks or New Barn which are both better stocked & have thriving coffee shops

Had a nice lunch with a friend. It was very busy for a weekday.

We came to just enjoy the day with my family To get some garden accessories and plants for our new house, it was really nice place plenty of beautiful plants to choose and stuff, we decided to have lunch with our chihuahua after ordering food in the counter with our small dog we sat on the table eating our lovely dinner when a member of staff approaches us and told us that dog are not allowed so we have to move with our food into a cafe area, it was so embarrassing that they didn’t told us while we are in the counter ordering food where they can clearly say that dogs are not allowed where they are allowed everywhere else. We just feel so embarrassed and humiliated that we didn’t even finish our food and just decided to go and not buy anything else.

Plants are a bit expensive and it is annoying that you can't pay for everything you want at the same till resulting in having to queue twice. Cup of tea was fine and staff very friendly.
