Sorrento Orrell in Wigan

We rocked up on a Friday lunchtime without a reservation and the staff seated us very happily. They were very accommodating with our 10 month old baby and the staff were very playful and engaging with him throughout our meal which helped distract him so we could eat. The food was amazing, very fresh and full of flavour. W e highly recommend and would definitely visit again.

My wife and I have attended this restaurant several times in the last 3 months , and the food is excellent as is the service. All of the staff are very polite and warm and genuine. Luciano the owner makes a big effort to make sure everyone is happy, and indeed comes and speaks to all of the guests at their tables to make sure all of the food is to the customers satisfaction. Luciano treats his customers like family. I rate Sorento's very highly, and Francesco really manages the restaurant very well, and nothing is too much trouble for him or Luciano. Who needs to go to Liverpool to eat when you have Sorento's locally. Buonissimo !!! Another great pizza last night Burrata and prosciutto -wonderful flavors

Had excellent ravioli, parmigiana, sanguinaccio, insalata di mare and insalata caprese. Even the eight month old enjoyed himself! Will return again as good Italian is hard to find.

Great food and great service. First time visiting and I was really impressed.

Visited after a day out in Formby and the food was perfect! Would happily travel all the way from Manchester just to eat here again.

We lost Sorrentos in Orrell , but we were delighted to be able to go to Formby a dusk meet up with the staff again. I have nothing negative to say about Sorrentos. Great food, superb service and a lovely atmosphere. Special mention to Marco.

The place was busy but the food was very poor. My wife and I had different meals and we both said it tasted quite bland and my daughter said her tortellini was worse than a cheap supermarket budget brand. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon

Magic, authentic Italian restaurant

Really really excellent restaurant. From nice welcome as soon as we stepped through the front door, the service all the way through the meal to the excellent food and drink. Can’t fault it!

Good food, nice surroundings but the drinks prices seemed a bit expensive - £6.10 for a pint of Peroni. No wonder there were no drinks menus on the table!

First time visiting, we’d heard great things and the reviews are good, however we were left underwhelmed and disappointed I’m afraid. Service was ok, we ordered a drink that never arrived & had to ask for the bill multiple times before just going to the bar to pay. The food was the biggest let down. We ordered three starters, the burrata special was nice. However, the garlic bread was standard nothing special, underwhelming & lacked garlic. The Patate Ripiene sounded lovely on the menu, Italian potato skins. I was just bemused by what came out, half a jacket potato with nothing inside and covered in tomato sauce with a bit of bacon. Would not recommend. The Tagliatelle Salmon, firstly it had clearly sat under the heat lamp for a while so it was dry on top. It lacked flavour, sauce and the salmon was just mushed in. Would not recommend. The lasagne was basic, clearly had plain tomato passata just poured over it with no seasoning just an overwhelming tomato taste. Incredibly disappointed. The Gamberoni Piri Piri we initially ordered as a starter to have as a main for one of our party who doesn’t have a big appetite, but the owner said to have the large when ordering, so she said yes. Came to £24.95 which was overpriced for what arrived, the sauce was ok, nothing special and just a piece of bread on the side. We came away disappointed & we felt for what it was, it was overpriced. Unfortunately I won’t return which is shame living in the village. Maybe it was just an off day, but it wasn’t overly busy and when you pay their prices I just expect more. The atmosphere and restaurant itself was lovely inside and I can’t fault that.

We had a fantastic night celebrating my Mums 94th birthday. All the staff were great fun, attentive and courteous and were happy to join in the fun with us by wearing masks with Mums face on. All the food was delicious and served together which was very impressive seeing as we were a party of 21. I would highly recommend Sorrento's and will definitely be returning. Thanks so much to the whole team. Xx

Sorrento in Formby is an upscale Italian restaurant. We were looking to nibble, and shared a plate of custom-cooked seafood with penne pasta. It was very good! 👍

We visited for the first time to celebrate my Birthday on Saturday evening and loved every moment. The restaurant is lovely and there is such a nice atmosphere. The staff are attentive and the food is amazing. We will be back in the near future.

Pretty awful. Food was average..no oils offered with pizza. Ordered marinara pizza. Two anchovies. Salmon came with what I can only describe as a stale poppadom. Lazy chefs.

We were in Formby for the first time but intend to come back and Sorrento will be our family favourite. The food is beautifully presented, authentic and tasty. Fabulous family restaurant. We have dined here for many years and class the staff as our friends, they are beautiful people who serve top quality Italian food. They never let us down whether it’s having a quick bite to eat on our way home from work, a date night, or taking our family and friends here for special occasions. Our favourite go to restaurant. Highly recommend Sorrento! I went for the first time last year and have been on many more occasions since. The food is always amazing and it’s by far the best Italian in Liverpool!! The staff are excellent and always go above and beyond to make us feel welcome :)

Sorrento always get it right! Wether it’s lunch, dinner or popping in for a glass of wine. This is our go to restaurant for a special occasion or a midweek family dinner. They are always on point with the service and make our little girl so special when she is there. Food is always fresh with an amazing range of Italian classics, the specials board always has something to tempt you. A big thank you to Ana, chicho, Luciano!

Google stated it was Open but the front gates were closed and little to no lights turned on when glancing through the windows. Attempted to call to check it was open in person but no staff answered the phone after 5 minutes of ringing. Information needs updating on Google if it is closed or staff need to create a more inviting atmosphere. Very disappointed.

We had a fabulous meal for my birthday. It was lovely to catch up with staff who we used to see regularly at Sorrento Orrell. It was a quiet part of the afternoon, it was great as we had time to chat to Marco who we haven't seen for since Orrell closed. I'm sure we will be back to Formby. Thanks for a great afternoon.

Most amazing service and food!!! We love coming here, the staff are so friendly, the atmosphere is always great!! I noticed the last comment mentioned the toilets were upstairs but there are toilets downstairs with disabled access.

We booked the restaurant for the celebration of life after my mother's funeral on 27.03.23. Not only myself but all of our guests - not sure how many there were to be honest but about 50 - ran out of superlatives to describe the food, the hospitality, the amazing staff and everything else about this family run restaurant. They had not previously taken this type of booking and we were as suggested unsure off numbers but they closed the restaurant for us at what we considered to be an excellent price and I can't really imagine how anything could have been better. We will return, as will many guests who had not previously dined there again and again and again. Thank you to each and every one of the staff. Anne

Authentic Italian restaurant with excellent service and good food but quite expensive!

We went on a Saturday evening. It was good to see a restaurant so busy in these times of economic problems, but in fact this made the place so noisy that our group of three struggled to hear each other. Added to this was completely unnecessary music making it a less than enjoyable experience. There was also the impression of having too many tables crammed into the space. I'm sure the waiters were trying to make it atmospheric, but repeated " bellissima" and other comments about beautiful ladies were unwelcome. Would a group of men be told they were good looking? I doubt it. Having said that, service was attentive, and quick enough, given the numbers of diners. The food was good and the prices reasonable to a bit pricey: just under £100 for two starters, three main courses, 4 glasses of wine and a tonic. I would definitely recommend the restaurant but not on a Saturday evening if you want to have a quiet conversation with your friends. For a lively event, why not?!

Came here for my 60th birthday on Christmas Eve. I had booked it 6 weeks earlier. Good job. It's always busy. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. All the time. We try and come here often even just for a pizza/ pasta. We are never disappointed. Thanks again Sorrento.

First visit today and I can't recommend highly enough. The staff were so welcoming and family friendly. Absolutely gorgeous to the children and courteous and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fast, fresh and delicious. We were bedraggled from swimming and the rain but we were treated like important guests. Can't wait to return. What can I say??? This is a real gem of a family run Italian restaurant in Formby, the food is to die for and the staff are incredible. If you can't get to Italy you really do have the real deal on your doorstep.
