My Daughter and I went to Primo late last night for the first time, heard so many good things. And Wow, we were not disappointed. The service and food was just superb and very well priced. We really enjoyed it and will most definitely will be back. Fantastic Reasurant to say the least...... 10/10

We regularly eat here and cannot recommend it highly enough, the staff are welcoming and professional and the food is exceptional.

I was given a voucher by family to celebrate my birthday. I booked a table for two and spent a week looking forward to “date night”. When we arrived, we were shown to our table and offered drinks. Olives and bread were put on the table while we perused the menu. The food was fabulous! I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed it. I took a picture of the starter (not something I’d normally do, but this was special). The main and desert didn’t get the same treatment, because there was an empty plate before I realised I’d not took the picture. The wine was crisp and refreshing too. Then came the cocktails!! A word of warning!! The cocktails!!! Delicious wasn’t in it! They were amazing, as were the staff! We went a fair bit over budget, but those cocktails!! Wow!! All in all, we had a fantastic evening. I would heartily recommend Primo to anyone. Just keep a check on the cocktails!!

Delicious food, first class service and the friendliest staff.

Second visit whilst working in the area and this time with a colleague. Now means that between us we have experienced more of the menu and seen how the place operates. Beautiful authentic Italian food, great service and a nice atmosphere re all in somewhere small and slightly hidden.

The food is good, but the vegan options aren't really there. They do, however, accommodate if you let them know you're vegan. But the choice is very minimal. I did feel my starter of 4 tiny bruscetta was not worth 8.95!!! The restaurant is small & intimate. Very warm inside, do not fetch a jacket!! Lol Parking is good at the back on the market/street. Service OK, and you're always served a Lemonchello afterwards

Just had an amazing meal at Primo Italian restaurant. The restaurant is immaculate and beautifully laid out. Really varied menu and the food is fresh, made to order and absolutely delicious. Loads of parking behind, highly recomended.

Great restaurant with reasonable price

They got my name wrong after pre booking and things got a little confused but they sorted it in the end. Very busy staff so they don't seem to hang about but they are just doing their jobs, overall friendly. Food is amazing and reasonably priced compared to other Italian places. Definitely need to pre book as it was full. Food may not look much but is filling.

First time here and they looked after 11 of us. The food all the way through was excellent.

I am not a big reviewer of places we go to, but sometimes a place is worth it. We attended this evening while in the Ashton having decided we couldn't face eating in our generic, chain hotel just under a mile away again. We found this family run, local business, which we do like to support where possible, and our expectations were nothing close to the experience we enjoyed. For a start, it is hard eating out with an 11 month old baby, we all know that, but the team at Primo were ALL incredibly welcoming and helpful, and made it very easy for us, even playing peak-a-boo with her without us even realising it to give us time to read the menu. Once we had ordered, the service was efficient and gave just the right balance of friendliness and space to enjoy our meal together and they had no issues providing additional cutlery and crockery for the baby to try everything. And everything was well worth trying too. This is a restaurant that cares about putting out honest, tasty food. I rarely order steak in a restaurant as I am normally disappointed but one steak dish caught my eye today and it was fantastic. The chefs proved they understand that 'how would you like it cooked' really means 'how would you like it to be cooked when it reaches you!' By the end of our visit, once the restaurant was less busy (yes, even late on a Sunday evening it was busy!) there was even space for our baby and a couple of other small children to play together, which was encouraged by the staff while also ensuring they did not get in the way of couples dining in the restaurant a the same time. In short, this was a very enjoyable meal in a restaurant that understands how to ensure they deliver a good dining experience for everyone. A happy and unexpected find. Primo means first or best, and this place deserves its name. Real Italian food, cooked fresh and from scratch, blending traditional with family recipes, and warm, friendly service at prices way below what your taste buds will tell you it's worth. The only problem you will have is making time to come back for all the things on the menu you haven't tried yet! Just order the Barrolo in advance. You'll thank me later.

Excellent food & staff. Great atmosphere & very welcoming place. My family & I go there every New Year & it's the best. Welcoming in New Year with lots of dancing & singing. Cocktails are the best. Can't wait to book for this New Year 👍

Great first experience at Primo. Based on recommendation from a friend. Food and atmosphere were excellent. When we left, I got the feeling the staff were ready to close up. Bit it was quite late. As a footnote, the pizza selection was very good.

We haven't visited primo since before pandemic when we would visit at least once a week.Service is excellent, food lovely and atmosphere relaxing.We booked a meal for myself and my husband for our 50th anniversary which we enjoyed and was given a lovely glass of bubbly after our meal .It is a bit more expensive but for special occasion you don't mind.

5 star all round. We came down from Yorkshire for the meal, We WERE NOT disappointed. It is as good as we heard. Nice family atmosphere. Attentive service. Excellent food. Good place for a family celebration. Thanks for a lovely time.

Thank you Francesca & the team for another excellent evening at Primo! We visited last night for our Dads special Birthday. The service was as ever 1st class, the food was at the highest standard, choice of wines and drink spot on and ambiance perfect! It is not surprising this is our favourite and first choice of restaurants. We look forward to seeing you again soon. x

Booked a table online and was told that it would be confirmed by email. No email arrived (Inbox or Junk), so I called to confirm. Eventually I was told that they were fully booked and all of the mails had been replied to. Now why on earth would I call if I had received a reply? If somebody had just been honest and said that there had been a mistake made, I would have accepted it, but to spin a load of BS was out of order. If this is the attitude before you get in the place, I can't see the customer service improving at the table. Very disappointing.

Best Italian restaurant in the northwest by a mile !!!!

Service was shocking! Took 40 mins to take our order, 3 out of the 4 meals was good, hot and tasty. Sadly 1 meal was cool, bland and dry. The service was awful, abrupt and rude. So sad as it really spoilt our evening out as became uncomfortable when the waitress came over. No smile, no eye contact, abruptly spoke to us. Had to asked twice for cutlery. Ate our main with a dessert spoon and took cutlery off the next table to eat our dessert whilst staff chatting at the bar area. Spent nearly £200 between 4 of us. Please improve your service as it really spoilt our evening.

Found this through Google reviews and it delivered - eating on your own can sometimes be a little ‘boring’ but thoroughly enjoyed my evening, helped in no part to the team whom made great recommendations of the Shiraz, caprese and of course the Principe Romano - very enjoyable

We had a wonderful meal last night for our Son’s 16th Birthday. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. We would definitely recommend.

We booked at table at Primo and what a lovely evening we had. The experience from walking in to leaving after our great meal was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Everyone in our party enjoyed there meal and it cannot be faulted. What a brilliant little place. I went on my own. Usually restaurants don’t really like singles, but I was served enthusiastically and the service was great. I wasn’t too sure if I wanted pasta or pizza for mains (I had the Carpaccio for starters, which was fantastic). I ended up with Principe Romano pasta after a brief chat!!! Wasn’t disappointed!! The meal/wine was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.

Small and intimate with a great and attentive service. Wine selection is excellent. Sitting there people watching you soon become aware how many regulars they get throughout the very enjoyable evening we had. Great food selection too!

We’d booked a table for 8pm and by half 8 we were still waiting at the bar. Finally shown to our table at half past, we then had to ask for our order to be taken 15 minutes later. We’d been in the restaurant for an hour before we had our starters- which was only a garlic bread. 2/4 meals were nice, the others were very average and lacked flavour. A real shame after reading so many positive reviews. In summary if you can’t accommodate so many people then just say no. We won’t be back and that was mainly due to wait as it really didn’t start the evening off to a great start

me and my friends wanted to book for a few weeks time cause we walked past seeing they had Sunday specials on, i rang up asking if they could email me what specials they do and the Lady was quite blunt and rude saying they didn’t do any specials even tho it says they do

Recomendedby a friend and I wanted something special for my 70th birthday. At first Primo's was reluctant to accept a reservation for 14 people eventualiy they agreed to our booking if we pre-ordered the food, thank god they did, 14 people the youngest was 7 the oldest 79 and all ordered various staters, main courses and desserts, and all agreed the food was excellent, not one negative comment from anyone. I will return as they have an extensive menu I wish to explore. I can only thank Primo's for making my 70th birthday such a success.

Can honestly say I have never had a bad experience visiting primo. Food is always the best. Always busy but never takes away from the service or quality. And staff are just so amazing. Personally my favourite place to eat in ashton or even Wigan.

Just had the most fabulous Italian meal. Best of service and very intimate atmosphere. Smaller portions available if you are not a big eater. Can’t recommend it enough, if you are staying in the area you must give it a visit

We were in Ashton 4 Haydock races. We had previously eaten in another restaurant (which was excellent but had to shut as a result of the effects of the pandemic and rising costs). I trawled the internet and found Primo which had excellent reviews. Having now dined there, I am very happy to confirm that the reviews are accurate. We had an excellent meal,; every constituent of which was cooked excellently and very tasty. Very pleasant service and a cosy atmosphere. Although we live more than 200 distant, we have booked in again where we are in transit in September. A great find!
