Primo in Wigan

Had our third takeaway from Primo since Christmas last night. Although it’s “takeaway”the food is to its usual restaurant standard and ordering and collection is so easy despite the COVID restrictions in place.And it’s always nice to see Francesca’s smiling face albeit behind her visor!

Outstanding food; very efficient customer ordering and service; staff looking sensational,as usual. Excellent.

My boyfriend and I visited here for the first time recently and it was excellent. The food was gorgeous and the staff are so friendly. We will definitely be returning!

I often order a take away from Primo and the food and the service never disappoints.We decided to book and eat inside for a change. The food service and atmosphere as by far one of the best I have dined in. We do tend to travel for good food.With the 10 pm close We had only booked in for 8 pm and thought this may have been a bit rushed but no it wasn’t. We had a three course meal and a bottle of wine as well as drinks and we didn’t feel rushed at all.The food is cooked freshly as ordered and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I will definitely go again to dine in and to have a takeaway both I cannot find fault with.Thank you to all the staff who make this experience so enjoyable.

Unfortunately had a bad experience at Primos, right from the off a negative vibe here ,Restaurant had no Atmosphere, the Staff were not helpful and the food was average .I left my table to visit the WC only to find main course on table when returning, Unfortunately after many frequent visits I won't be returning in the near future

Visited with my daughter and my partner. Pre ordered food as we could only get a table at 8.30pm and had to be out for 10. Food was lovely, however we got two tiny halves of potatoes and a couple of pieces of veg. Certainly would expect more with paying £109 for 3 people when no one was drinking.

What an absolutely stunning place to visit, we tried 2 new dishes and were not disappointed! The steak was cooked to perfection and the red wine that was recommended by staff was excellent. Atmosphere and staff were both exceptional We will definitely be revisiting!

Managed to get a table during the Eat Out promotion and wasn't disappointed.Monkfish main course was lovely! Service was good, strawberry dessert was lush. They're trying hard to have good social distance measures in place despite being a small restaurant...only thing to look out for was that we didn't know you have to bring a mask for moving around the restaurant, we'd been told by a friend before going. Saw folk turned away for this reason.Best place to eat in Ashton-in-Makerfield by a long way.

The food here is usually fabulous but on my last visit, I ordered the Monkfish, which when it arrived was 3 very small pieces of fish, a few small veg and potatoes. It was just not worth the money at £19.95. I will return to the restaurant but will choose something different next time

Food good as normal, staff looked like they were serving their notice! Not the usual atmosphere at all. Even with the eat out deal they are still getting the full amount, a smile would have been nice. Will rethink booking here again which is a shame

Managed to secure a table at 5P.M on a Monday evening. Testing at the door gave us confidence as did spacing of the tables. Service and food still as good as always. Nobody should be concerned about dining here in these difficult times.

Experience was nice but the food was very average - we both got carbonara and it was very bland, not a lot of sauce. The waiters and staff were friendly and helpful and overall the experience was good. The decor inside is very nice and the drinks were good. I would probably come here again maybe for a few after dinner cocktails or limoncello but it's not worth paying for fine dining when you get average tasting food.

Love Primo and the staff are all lovely, we come here quite often with my family and the food has always been spot on the cocktails are amazing too, going to make it a weekly thing :) always polite and great with children x

I've always enjoyed Primo, and have been on many occasions, last couple of times it's not been so good, the service on this occasion was particularly bad.

Always a friendly reception and great food, my 8 year old learns a new Italian word each time we go.

We were made to feel really welcome as a young family, high chair was brought without asking, and we were fit in on a busy night. The food was brilliant; delicious garlic bread, the crab tagliatelle was fantastic as was the prawn linguini. The staff happily did a child’s portion of spaghetti bolognese, which was really good too. We were just staying in the area for one night and this was a great find, we’ll definitely return!!

We were recommended by a friend. We took our Dad who hasn’t been out much following our Mums passing a few months ago. The owner and her team couldn’t have been any more accommodating to make us feel valued and welcome. Professional, efficient and friendly! Nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant is charming, inviting and full of activity. The food was splendid and each of us had a different dish but non the less all of the same exceptional standard. I absolutely love this place. Simply reviewed, the foods great, the service, decor and menu are top notch and it’s perfect for couples or larger parties. Go for the lasagne, it’s out of this world.They do take out too but you have to collect it.

Arranged a night out with my brother post Christmas catch up. We both like Italian and I found this place on the internet because we wanted to go playing snooker afterwards in a local snooker hall. The restaurant was situated in a back street spot with plenty of free parking nearby. The service was second to none and quality of food was equally impressive.

Best restaurant in Ashton. Food is always 100%. Never been disappointed and service 1st class. Been so many times, lost count but keep going back.

Food was good service was excellent, really good meals well flavoured although Spaghetti and sauce with meatballs was seriously over-salted, uncomfortably so.

I visited here for the first time tonight and had such a wonderful experience that I came straight home to review it.

Had a lovely time in July when I took my elderly mother out one Sunday afternoon for an Italian meal. I have been to Primo before but my mother hadn't. As she is elderly, mum only ordered a starter. Which she said was very tasty and enough to fill her up

For once, an Italian restaurant where I wasn't tempted to fall back on the safe option of a pizza. I like pizza, so that's saying a lot.

Highly recommend this place. Outstanding customer service and the food is excellent. Fillet steak is the best!

Locale piccolo ma molto curato con musica in sottofondo. Proprietaria davvero molto gentile così come tutto il personale. Ottimi primi, super secondi e dolci strepitosi. Provare per credere..... Dimenticavo, prezzi giusti.

Ok, I'm no expert but I do like great good, service, and ambience and boy did this deliver! Went on what I thought would be a quiet Tuesday night. It was packed at 7pm. Just go! Not expensive, highest quality of food and drink but not pretentious, far from it. Please go if you like Italian food even. Awesome!!!

I came with my wife and some family up from Cambridge and although smallish is very comfortable no matter the size of party.The food and service were excellent ,along with the very stylish surroundings typically Italiano created a memorable evening.

We were staying in the area and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. We visited on a busy Saturday night, having booked beforehand, and we loved the whole experience. The restaurant is small, spotlessly clean and the glasses are sparkling. The food is excellent and the staff were professional and attentive without being intrusive.

A group of us went to celebrate a birthday. The food was lovely and fantastic service by friendly staff. Will certainly be returning in the future.

Love the atmosphere in here and the food was delicious. Recommend the grilled fish mix as a shared main, and the starters were equally good. Staff were friendly and professional.

Has a superb reputation but we where immediately put of by 1 member of staff who accused me of booking for 4 when i had booked for 2 , she was very surly.

This is our 3rd meal here, every single time has been amazing. The food is delicious, the wine that has been recommended has always been fabulous and the staff are so professional yet friendly and the background music is perfect. We've been so impressed that we've booked a table here every month for the rest of the year.

Great little place, the food was excellent, the recommended wine was fantastic, we will try a cocktail on our next visit, the guy mixing them seems to have a great passion for it.

By far the best restaurant in Wigan. We have been about 20 times and never once had a bad plate of food. The pasta dishes are fantastic and so are the steaks. We have been as a couple, for family birthdays and for a christening with a party of 30 and the service has always been great.

My sister and I took our mum for a surprise birthday meal, it was outstanding, the food, service, drinks, all above par. I really recommend the house red. The food was all piping hot and beautifully presented. We treated ourselves to a couple of cocktails again which were beautifully presented and very well made. Even though it was busy the atmosphere was relaxed and this is due to the service from the friendly and well knowledge staff. Don't think twice about visiting book today!

Inviting atmosphere as soon as we walked through the door. friendly staff, with a mouth watering menu to choose from. Will Definitely come back again. Need to book well in advance.

Nice secluded high standard little restaurant tucked away down a side street away from the hustle and bustle. Food is excellent as is the service. Plenty of car parking facilities close by.

9 of us visited last night (Thursday) for a colleagues leaving do. Food was excellent, portion sizes were good and the waiting staff were attentive but not overbearing. Well priced menu and so tasty. Will definitely return with my wife.

We live locally and our hairdressers are always raving about Primo so we thought that we’d have our son’s birthday meal there. We were not disappointed, the food and service were excellent, we all enjoyed what we had ordered. Highly recommended is the dessert with pistachio and ricotta, my husband loved it.

I have lived in the area for some years but didn't know of Primo's existence. We booked Primo for my birthday to see what it was like. On arrival we were shown to a table but asked to be moved due to a very noisy family. The place is very small but staff moved us away. We were given menus but no-one came to take our order. I eyeballed someone behind the bar raising the menu higher, bar man obviously spoke to someone who appeared to be senior staff. A younger member of staff was going past and I told her as well.Order was taken. Starter was lovely but our mains were average. We didn't have a dessert. Staff overall were polite and friendly but customer atmosphere appeared to be quite cliquey. Bill was reasonable. It was too small for us and it was nothing special. If you like your steak, avoid if you don't want to pay over the odds, steak dishes are expensive. Won't be booking again.

An authentic, small, cosy Italian restaurant. Fantastic food, very helpful staff and good service. Portions are larger compared to typical Italian restaurants so be aware (not that I'm complaining!) A good selection of Italian wine at reasonable prices too! Closer to a car park makes it very convenient as well.

The food here is amazing. Every course was just wonderful.

Went here last Sunday for lunch with family on the recommendatiin of a friend we had a beautiful meal with excellent service from the staff who were friendly and polite we had 3 courses and were there for nearly 3 hrs at no point

This place is tiny, expensive and the proportions are small. That said what small amount of food we tasted was excellent. The carpaccio starter had way too much cheese (as pic). With hardly any beef.

Absolutely beautiful food with fantastic service from Cassie. I had mushroom and tarragon risotto for starters by son had black pudding and bacon salad with a perfect poached egg. Both beautifully presented & just right amount. I had cod in a delicious lemon butter sauce my son had chicken chasseur which I had a taste & it was gorgeous! I had no room for a sweet but my son enjoyed his. £28 with also a gingerbread gin and glass of red wine included in that very cheap for the standard . Never had a bad meal here very talented chefs. Would recommend highly!

Was staying in the area for work and found this restaurant online. Really exceeded expectations and was probably the best Italian food I have had (even better than the food I have had in a few trips to Italy). Everyone in the group was impressed, If I ever find myself back in Ashton I will definitely be going for a visit. Really good prices as well.

Been here quite a few times and haven’t been disappointed, food isn’t cheap but is good quality and always tastes great! My favourite is the lemon chicken and chilli prawns.

Very flavoursome meals. The meals were very beautifully presented and very tasty. To top it off, the service was fantastic. Extremely attentive, very friendly. Would definitely recommend without a doubt.

We eat here on a regular basis, and although we only booked at the last minute,the staff were very accommodating, and we managed to secure a table for 2. The meal was delicious and we weren’t rushed.

I came here with my wife and some friends back in January and it was so nice we decided to come back. Firstly the food and service was excellent again. Secondly the owner remembered us after one visit and a 11 month gap! There attention to detail is fantastic. Well done Primo, consistently excellent. Will not try and leave it as long until the next visit!

Honestly never ever had a bad meal. Once again the food speaks for itself. If you've not eaten here you need to ask yourself why? Fantastic service brilliant food. Resteraunt was hot tonight but didn't effect overall atmosphere

This is now our special treat takeaway. By far the best in wigan. They have a selection of meal deals without losing the quality.

enjoyed a lovely meal with my partner. we had a sharing plate of mixed meats & cheese's, then both had the spaghetti carbonara. we really enjoyed everything we had, we also enjoyed a great bottle of red. the food was very well cooked and well presented. would recommend to anyone.

Myself and 5 friends went to primo mid week for something to eat and a catch up. The interior of the restaurant is lovely and the staff and service were excellent. The food was very nice, presented well and served hot. Prices are very reasonable as well. Will be going back

We booked for 4 people , arrived slightly early,no problem,we al had various different items and everything was excellent.this restaurant is owned and mainly staffed by family members. I wouldn’t recommend it for British food.excellent for authentic Italian food.staff are friendly and helpful. Booking advised.

We did not know this place existed, we were in town looking for a place to eat and noticed the Primo down a side street, we had a nosy through the window and checked out the menu and entered. it was quite busy, it is only a small restaurant but the tables are well spread out. it was Friday night and we had not booked but the staff gave us a table that was reserved but only in 90 minutes time, this was fine with us. we were give Olives and fresh bread to start and we had beer to drink but they also had a selection of wines and a full cocktail menu. To start Mrs Titan had the bruschetta and I had the Prawns and for the mains we had the Lamb chops and a seafood pasta, prawns, mussels, squid and octopus. it was all amazing. the staff were great and we were not rushed. to end the meal the owner (Francesca Brogna) I think !!, sorry if I am wrong, brought us over a shot of limoncello, again, I think !!, which was a nice end to the meal. As for the cost....you get what you pay for.

Primo has established itself as our favourite restaurant in Ashton, indeed in the Wigan locality. My partner and I dined there most recently early last Saturday night and following the warmest of welcomes from Francesca *and her staff ,we enjoyed another great evening of lovely food, great atmosphere and excellent service. Can recommend the capesante, the sea bream and the filletto. House wines also very palatable. We look forward to our next visit to Ashton’s finest! (* My apologies for calling Francesca “Alessandra” a couple of times during this this visit ,tho’she was too polite to correct me!)

Very good food and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. The evening was soured slightly by being served a measure of amaretto for almost £4! It was a single 25ml measure. I drink amaretto regularly and I always get served 50ml (or a double). When I asked the waitress, she was quite abrupt and even marched off to bring the measures over to show me. Maybe I'm wrong but a measure of good quality brandy is the same price. Having said that, this is a great little restaurant and I'm still giving them 5 stars.

Visited on Sunday night with my wife. Service was excellent, great staff and first class food and drink. We were not rushed and dined and drank at our leisure. Probably the best restaurant in the area. Thank you for a great evening.

We regularly get take away from this restaurant and the spaghetti carbonara is highly recommended. When ordering the process is really easy, the staff are helpful and the timing to pick up are accurate. Recommend this restaurant if you’re fancying Italian but don’t wanna go out!

We recently visited with a friend with severe nut allergies and there was very very little she could eat on the menu. Staff where friendly and the atmosphere was really nice.

Visited last Friday ( we have not been for a few months as we have been away) wonderful night lovely food and very friendly staff. The wine and other drinks are very reasonably priced and the food is excellent value as it is all home made and delicious.

We visited again for my daughters graduation. Food is excellent, as usual, but service takes some dealing with. Very hard to get served. Annoying when you have to shout to get a drink. Only a small place and if there is a bigger party in its extremely noisy. Not the place for a romantic dinner, but great if you don’t mind noise and waiting a while for your waitress to arrive. Quiet pricey too so overall only a 4 star place.

Primo is only ten minutes from M6 J23. But you could be on the Neapolitan riviera. Ashton's Italian restaurant is truly authentic. It deserves a wide reputation. A friendly family from Naples cooks and serves genuine "cucina italiana", with special dishes from Amalfi. The atmosphere is cool. Marble tables. Designer lighting. Efficient service with an unusually high number of staff per table. The bar seems exceptionally diverse. Daily deliveries of fresh ingredients, especially "frutti di mare", gave us carefully balanced flavours at the table. Very well worth a journey.

Primo is by far the best Italian restaurant I have visited in many years. Spotlessly clean, fantastic service and the food is unrivalled. Do not be put off by the location. I could recommend the fish platter for two. Superb in every way.

A great meal very well presented by lovely staff with nothing too much trouble. A good choice on the menu with something to suit everybody. Would highly recommend this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

We received a warm welcome. We hadn't booked but were found a table. Good selection of food and wine. The meals came together and both looked and tasted good.

Been coming to Primo’s since they opened in 2014 just stumbled across as we was walking through on a night never had a chance to leave a review but came here again for i don’t know how many times we have visited the food was amazing as usual the staff are really friendly are always prepared to go the extra mile for you, having had a baby a few months ago she has been 3 times with us and she also now loves the food as she is discovering her taste buds she loved the garlic bread and cheese and especially the profiteroles I just want to thank Primo’s for always being so attentive with us and always giving us great food and a good meal to remember definitely worth visiting if your around the Ashton in Makerfield area you won’t be disappointed

We have been this evening for a meal for our anniversary fantastic food fantastic service nothing is to much trouble for them and they even gave us a bottle of wine as a present how really lovily of them. Fantastic night at primo
