La Cava in Wigan

Absolute shambles , we reserved a table for 9 3-4 weeks before our booking, paid a deposit the week before and pre-order as requested. When we arrived the place was chaotic, after 20 minutes we managed to order a drink and after 45 minutes our table still wasn’t ready. The staff told us the table would be ready in 5 minutes and then served cake to the party on the table we had booked . We gave up eventually , even the owner wasn’t in control and no one was either apologetic or actually tried to solve the problem , they just expected us to wait . At least 2 other parties were in the state as us - please avoid this restaurant unless your are on a diet .

Been coming for years, food is always lovely and good prices; waiters are always friendly and manager is always lovely and understanding. Highly recommend visiting, in my opinion best italian in hindley/wigan. Will always revisit.

First time visiting after hearing great reviews sadly it was poor and not what i expected from start to end. I appreciate the hard work and challenges that go into running a restaurant and my review is to help with improvements. Arrived 10mins before our booking for table. Ordered drinks at the bar and waited for 15/20mins before we even received them, i asked if we could have the drinks politely as we had been waiting and was told they wont be long, been busy with having a big order from upstairs. Taken to our table, ordered our food asked for appetiser to come before starters and asked if one veg serving would be enough to share. Starters arrived first, then appetiser which was garlic bread with tomato and cheese. Mussels - covered in cheese yes it is on the description but it was thick melted cheese on top of mussels. It doesnt need it i thought it would be a sprinkle! Ribs tasted good albeit not much meat and garlic bread was awful. It was swimming in tomato sauce not cut so had to use a knife and fork and no garlic taste, it was almost thrown together. Both mains - very good and tasty, chips delicious. Veg was literally two pieces of cauliflower one and bit of broccoli and 3 or 4 sliced carrots with two half roasted potatoes. It was a pitiful portion for two and this was charged as an extra side We asked for the bill, waited 15 mins until we got up and went to pay at the bar. It just felt that there was a lack of lead and plans on who does what. Overall i am disappointed by my visit i wouldnt return, it felt like a difficult night. In total it took nearly 3 hours . We did asked if everything was ok and i can see how hard the staff try and work but i think the organisation tonight was poor. It didn’t feel ‘italian’ and the garlic bread with cheese and tomato was like a sloppy margarita.

Enjoyable experience with friends. Read the reviews and went with mixed feelings. The food was hot and tasty, service was fantastic and it was very good value for money. We will definitely be returning.

La Cava, food was great we couldn't fault it, one of the best fillet steaks about cooked to perfection and reasonably priced, unfortunately the service was shocking. Arrived 7.50pm for reservation at 8pm, table wasn't ready we had drinks at the bar had to wait 10mins to be served. Finally shown to our table at 8.45pm with the starters following at 9.15pm. Great food but needs to work on the service.

Lovely food however it doesn’t stay warm enough before you finish eating. Not sure if that due to not warming plates or the whole place is cold. Comments made re this ignored by staff

Really disappointed with our service tonight. I booked a table for 10 - 2 weeks ago - for my father's 60th birthday. I sent them the requested preorder document that they require for parties over 8. When we arrived our table wasn't ready, we waited for around 15/20 minutes to be seated. We were seated in an empty room upstairs that had no atmosphere, no music playing. We were then asked if we were ready to order, I stated that I sent in a completed preorder form, in return I received a look of doubt and a request to see the form. Therefore the kitchen had to make 10 peoples starters, mains and desserts fresh. We received our starters around 45 minutes after our booking time. Some of the food we received was cold, and when asked to be heated up we received no apology, the calamari was completely undercooked and we requested it be taken off the bill - it wasn't, I had to request again when paying. We didn't get any water for the table until desserts, and I had to go to the bar to ask them to take another order of drinks after waiting 30 minutes after finishing our first round (the round we ordered at the bar whilst waiting for our table).The younger servers were lovely, no faults on their part, but the host was rude, unapologetic, and frankly needs some customer service training. The fact it was a special occasion, my Dad's 60th and we were treated so coldly was quite hurtful and I feel it tainted what we hoped would be a nice celebratory evening. Food and service needs major improvement.

As always our favourite Italian didn't disappoint! 8 adults and 2 children. Service was excellent staff always make us feel welcome . Food was lovely 3 adults had steak and all said was cooked perfectly father in law had fish and 4 had pastas ...no complaints from any of us and a lovely evening out

We booked out upstairs for a 50th birthday meal for 28 adults on Saturday night ...the food as usual was delicious ( I had pre-booked all the meals) and the starters arrived with in 15 mins of us confirming we were ready. We were given our own drinks waiter who was fantastic, he made sure our glasses were never empty. Everybody commented on what a fab night they had had...this is our favourite restaurant and it didn't disappoint.

So, let me tell you about this cozy little gem called La Cava. From the moment I stepped in, the staff greeted me with genuine smiles and gave off such a welcoming vibe. It instantly made me feel like I was in for something special. Now, let's get to the good stuff: the food at La Cava. They're all about celebrating those traditional Italian flavors that just hit the spot. Chef Dinouk is a wizard in the kitchen, creating these amazing dishes that will please even the fussiest eaters. During my visit, I got to dig into some of the crowd-pleasers of Italian cuisine in England. We're talking about bruschetta with juicy tomatoes and fragrant basil that transported me straight to the Mediterranean. The risotto with porcini mushrooms was creamy and packed with flavor. And can we take a moment to appreciate the heavenly layers of pasta, meaty ragù, and melty cheese in their lasagna Bolognese? It was like a taste explosion. La Cava has this elegant and refined ambiance going on, with just the right amount of dim lighting to set the mood. The decor adds a touch of charm that makes you feel right at home. To sum it up, if you're on the hunt for a cozy restaurant with mouthwatering traditional Italian dishes, La Cava is the place to be. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Was impressed with the politeness of the serving staff,certainly not impressed with who I assume was the manager. I found very grumpy and ignorant , when my husband and myself went for a birthday celebration they were having a technical problem with the WiFi connection, so when we wanted to pay for our meal the card machine wasn't working properly, so when they scanned my card it was very slow so the payment was taking time to go through,I asked the manager what we could do to solve the problem,his reply was to pay by bank transfer,I told him I was unable to do this,to which he just walked away and left my husband and I stood at the counter,this went on for approx another 10 min or so,he just blanked us and carried on serving instead of sorting the problem. I really do think in the strongest way possible this behaviour was rude and unacceptable, anyway after about another 5 mins or so the payment finally went through, again this man just practically threw the receipt at us ,no thank you or anything,we will certainly not be going back. If you want a steak don’t bother. Especially the fillet which is the most expensive. Ordered it medium and it came purple and cold throughout. After sending it back it then came black and tasting of chargrill. After speaking to staff and then the manager, he quoted “it’s the best steak and that’s how it comes”. No refund, no acknowledgment of anything. Rude manager! On the other hand the other staff are at no fault and so polite.

We visit La cava frequently usually for the mid week offer after work or a weekend for a treat, the food quality is second to none. We booked for my partners Birthday as it’s local, one of his favourites, we know what to expect and the staff are really friendly. The more senior team members address us on first name basis now. We invited family and every single person (13 of us) were really impressed and commented on the service and food, they even split the bill by couple to make it easier for us at the end. I will most certainly be going back, as I always do, it’s the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to and the chilli lasagne is next level!!

I have been here quite a lot of times now (not my own choice) and pretty much every time it has been disappointing. I’m finally writing this review as I think people need to know what it’s really like. They are usually always late on letting you get to your table, they consistently miss or add on extras to your order and the price is considerably more than other similar restaurants in the area. For my most recent experience there, I ordered a medium-rare steak, which first came medium-well, then a few minutes later came back well-done (probably microwaved). The third time it was barely even rare but I put up with it as by this point most people were finishing their meals. They didn’t even apologise or offer any sort of discount. If you want nice Mediterranean food where they can actually get your orders right just go down the road to Toscana, it’s cheaper and a lot better.

Very nice restaurant, the food was very test and the service was quick. The atmosphere is lovely and elegant decoration. The staff is friendly and helpful. I recommend this place, it is good to go with family and friends. I will definitely come back soon.

We came to La Cava this evening and how disappointed we was with the service. Our table was booked for 7:30pm, by 8:30pm we had been served a Garic Bread! I asked the waitress how long our meals would be, No update. By 8:50 we had had enough, The waiter could not tell me how long our food would be. No apology nothing …. In the end we left paying our drinks bills as they was happy to serve 3 rounds of drinks. La Cava you are better than this !

We've been to La Cava and really enjoyed it before. Unfortunately this evening was awful. We were seated underneath a speaker. We had to wait an hour for starters, the calamari was raw, and the mains came out separately. Such a shame. Would be hesitant to return.

Served flat coke and when asked for a fresh one they said it would be the same so offered a bottle, they then charged us for the bottle despite this being less then the pint we originally asked for but more expensive. The server tasted and admitted that it tasted flat. We then found a hair in the cheese of a pizza. When a waitress came over to take the plates away we explained and showed the hair no real apology was made. We then said we would just want to bill as it had put us of our meals. We then had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come over for us to pay. Without explanation they had just taken £5 off the bill then told us that it was only when we got the bill we told him. We explained we told the previous server ans expected her to pass it on and if someone came over to ask if the meals were okay we would of told them then. He carried on saying that we should of told him cause its only when we have seen the bill we have a problem, adding further insult he then went to say that the manager had checked before and there was nothing on the plate suggesting we were lying. We explained again that it was in the cheese of the pizza and if they had shown them the plate they would of seen it. Very disappointed in how the situation was handled, terrible customer service. Would defiantly not be visiting again and urge people to go else where if they want to have a good meal with customer service.

Visited with my friend and our 5 children and I’ll be honest we all had fussy requirements but nothing was too but trouble and all food arrived exactly how we asked and was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere, will definitely be returning!

This restaurant is fantastic. The atmosphere is one of a lovely classic Italian restaurant. The staff/owners are polite and friendly and never fail to put a smile on my face. Unfortunately, during the pandemic it is difficult to get the atmosphere from the restaurant but the food is fantastic and reasonably priced, I strongly recommend the Cannoli, it is unmatched. As soon a lockdown is lifted, you’ll be sure to find me and the missus sat in La Cava. Thanks to the owners who continue to stay open during these hard times, please keep on going and we hope to have a laugh and a drink in your fantastic restaurant again soon. Simply the best.

First visit for a while and not disappointed. Also good to see Covid regs upheld throughout the meal.Food was excellent. My king prawn gamberoni were as good as ever and the steak Diane cooked to perfection. Rest of our party had the garlic mushrooms and beef stroganoff. All accompanied by a couple of refreshing peroni and a bottle of excellent white wine.Really enjoyable and even in the circumstances, an excellent relaxing meal out. Well done Ray and staff!

Changes to Covid restrictions made us rethink our original plans. Instead we chose a take away and we were not disappointed. Have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our mains of the beef stroganoff and steak Diane. Well recommended.

Family of four visited here for a meal. All 3 courses were delicious, hot, and well presented. I recommend the sticky toffee pudding! All corona virus guidelines were met. Fabulous

I've been there a couple of times when I stay in Wigan. For me it is a must go place for all the people who want to taste a bit of Italy and spend a great time with family and friends. I always order penne salmon, it is my favourite. The place is amazing, stylish, good music, delicious food and the staff is really friendly. I absolutely recommend this restaurant, the best place to go once in Wigan

Booked online Saturday night too busy understaffed slow service will not go again , asked for bill waited 20 mins then went to till ourselves and stood being ignored 10 minutes

Went to this restaurant on Valentine’s night. Great place. Food was delicious, and good sized portions. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere too. Look forward to this becoming a regular choice for us.

The farther in-law said to try this place as it was fantastic. He was right, I came tonight with the Mrs and it did not disappoint the food was fantastic perfect portion sizes and the flavours were great. Atmosphere was great nice and relax with some Italian music in the back ground. Will definitely be coming again.

Popped in tonight early on the off chance, restaurant was almost full but was seated with no fuss. Staff, Food Wine and service was excellent. Will be returning for sure.

What a lovely night, the food was amazing and tasty, they have a good selection of wines. Fabulous place to have dinner.

I have been to la Cava quite a number of times over the years and never been disappointed. Service excellent, drinks excellent, food excellent The arrabiata or matriciana in particular are my favourite dishes and always a nice meal.

Another perfect evening spent with family in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Fantastic service and the most delicious food as usual.

First time visited here and very pleased with food and service.Starters were all excellent and piping hot.Our party had meatballs,highly recommend.Stuffed mushrooms mmm so tasty.Ribs ok .Garlic bread with mushrooms ok.Calamari not the best bit over cooked.

We booked a table for 6.00 pm but arrived early. No problem! Shown to our table complete with a white tablecloth and napkins. (A great change from bare tables). We shared a bruschetta starter and ordered small portions of pasta. Excellent food and portions perfect for the two of us. This is the third time we have been here and the food has been consistent each visit.

Partner and I gave this a go. Really glad we gave it a chance. Calamari starter was average but mains and dessert 2nd to none. Service was efficient, professional and with a smile. Price was very reasonable. Definitely go again.

We came here with my family for a my birthday meal (I'd love to say it was my 25th birthday but I'd just be lying😂). Very nice food and very pleasent staff and a great deal. Definalty a place I'll come back too.

Always loving coming back to this beautiful place. I had for starter the goat cheese( it was amazing) and for main course, seafood linguini, absolutely delicious. The staff always so friendly. Definitely I’ll be back soon.

Second vist to this cozy restaurant. I have been trying so many italians before, but La Cava it's just something else. The food it's so good, the taste is unique. I really recommend this restaurant.

It has been a number of years since we last dined here, but I am pleased to say that the experience was still outstanding. The food is excellent and not over priced either. We were in a party of six to celebrate a family members birthday and the service was spot on and faultless. The extra touch of catering for young children makes a huge difference too, happy child makes for happy adults.

Amazing food, great staff, I’ve been here 4 times in 6 weeks, I’ve tried quite a few dishes and I’ve NOT been disappointed, I love this place and I will be back very soon to try even more off the menu, I would recommend this place to anyone that likes good food at a reasonable price, just a little gem, please try,

The food at this restaurant is good. They catered easily for our party of eight. The menu was comprehensive. The food was all hot and everyone enjoyed their food.

We visited on the 2nd of March a Saturday evening. Me and my fiancee visited for a casual meal. We arrived at 8.00pm we was seated and given menus. We waited 30 mins and then had to ask if we could get some drinks. We then told a member of staff we wanted to order our food and her response was I will have to get my manager. We waited another 20 minutes before someone came to take our food order. My partner had prawn cocktail that said it came with bread but no bread was served with it. I myself had pate lots of bread but not enough pate the bread was far to thick and doughy. We then waited about 20 minutes for our mains. Whilst we was eating our mains my partner ordered a peroni and was brought a San Miguel. Also a member of staff further into our main came and lent over us to get empty bottles which I found very rude. I was half way through a cannelloni when I came across a long blonde hair on my food which put me off. We paid our bill then left. Very disappointed with the service the staff and the food.

Always come here with my partner. The steak is the best that we have tasted. Brilliant staff always pleasant and welcoming.

We booked a table here as it is local to our work. Our server swiftly seated us and provided menus. We opted for 2 courses for £12.50. Everyone enjoyed their food, we all had pasta so couldn't comment on pizza. They were generous portions. I'd recommend for a relaxed and cheap eat.

I have been here a few times now and i enjoy my meal every time, the pizzas and garlic bread have a lovely base and sauce to them and the first time I tried their pasta, i had tagilatelle con gamberetti, it was very tasty. They're aren't a lot of restaurants in my area but la cava is the first choice of the lot

Fabulous evening. Great food, drink and atmosphere. Staff attentive and helpful. Table decorations handed in prior to arrival and they were tastefully added to. The staff sang happy birthday when they brought i the cake. The whole event was very reasonably priced. A roaring success.!

Have visited here a few times over the years with us being locals, it is normally ok but sadly the last time we visited it was terrible. Ordered drinks, pints, they came and absolutely stank like a sewer, sent back but asked for another brand this time. Peroni, over £4 a go and stank as bad as the first one so it got left. The mrs ordered lasagne that she said was ok but lacked flavour, I ordered pizza (quattro stagioni) it was probaby the worst ive eaten, chicago town does a better job frozen. Soggy base, poor cheese and the toppings were a joke. It was split into 4,one quarter a pile of raw onions, one with mushrooms, one with cheap pepperoni and the other with chopped up spam. A pizza from an italian should be made with fresh ingredients and this one screamed of being done on the cheap. Sadly dont think id visit again, there is plenty of other better italians around.

I only reviewed la cava in December, but I believe praise is needed when a restaurant produces great food time and time again! I came here with my boyfriend and sister to celebrate my sisters university exam results and as usual pleasant service and great food! We got the two course deal for 12.95 I think it is, we did aim for three but couldn’t eat any more we had garlic bread to share, meatballs, calamari and bruschetta. And for mains pizza, creamy chicken and mushroom penne and spaghetti bolognese and it was all great. Thanks again for a great meal

Accidentally stumbled across this as a few of our usual places were closed. Glad they were as I don’t think we’ll be going to any other Italian any time soon. Absolutely fantastic, staff all mega friendly too - Cracking find!

My family and I come here a lot, they serve really good hearty Italian food with really healthy portions. We had bruschetta and meatballs for starter, lasagne and pizza with garlic bread for main. All were really good and if your in town defo worth a visit.

We visited La Cava for the first time in nearly 4 years and were pleasantly surprised. We booked an early table at 6.30pm and the food was excellent and very tasty. The only down side was slow service on drinks and asking for the bill, which didn't put us off visiting again, but could have been a little faster as the restaurant was not totally full at the time we booked. Great food though!

Love this restaurant, a hidden gem, great food, great service. I loved every meal I've had here. Absolutely recommend this nice place.

I have been here before and was unimpressed with the service and found the food quality just ordinary. However this was some time ago. Visited a week ago and still think the service could be much improved. The food on this occasion was better than before. Minestrone soup was absolutely "souperb" (se what I did there). Second course I had Fillet steak with a Diane sauce, steak was cooked as I had requested, sauce was very tasty. All in all much improved but still could be better.

Had an enjoyable evening with friends, food was very good. I had stuffed mushrooms to start then the lasagne. Very tasty! My friends had the fish dish and lobster ravioli they said this was delicious too. We had dessert banoffee pie it was yummy. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere will definitely come back.

we wanted a Sunday lunch and a change - this was a place we went as a couple several years ago and loved it - it was local and a good menu so if you return somewhere you wonder will it be as you remember it - food quality wise.

The food is delicious and comes pretty quick. The garlic bread with cheese starter is just out of this world. The atmosphere was amazing. Really recommend anyone coming here. The staff are really quiet and shy but seem really lovely people.

Me,my girlfriend and her dad come here often and normally with the rest of the family. We all love it. Food is amazing (especially the starter garlic bread with cheese) it’s big. Dessert was delicious. We’ll definitely be back !! Staff are quiet but the manager definitely isn’t lol. He’s funny and dead welcoming.

We only stayed in Wigan for a couple of day but the highlight of the stay was this restaurant. The food was great. The service was very attentive and friendly.

Four of us went to this restaurant on a Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. Having already booked an hour or so before, as soon as we arrived we were shown to our table. The waitress brought our menus and about 5 minutes later took our drinks order which came quickly. It was a nearly half an hour though before we ordered our food but to be honest, it did not bother us too much as we don't like to be rushed. We opted for the 3 courses for £14.95 (not on every night of the week) which was any starter, any main dish of pizza or pasta and a dessert. We also ordered a cheesy pizza garlic bread to share. The starters were black pudding, meatballs, chicken Caesar salad and a prawn cocktail. We all thought our starters were very very good. I had the Caesar salad which was probably one of the best ones I have ever had and it was plentiful. For mains we had 2 x Canneloni, a lasagne and a spaghetti carbonara. All were piping hot and delicious. The desserts were fine but nothing special. With a bottle of house red, two Peroni, a tap water and a large coke, the bill came to £86.00. We all thought it was good value and will definitely go again but would more than likely give the sweets a miss as two courses would have been quite adequate. There were quite a few people dining which was good and the decoration, comfort and atmosphere were spot on. Looking forward to a return visit in the not too distant future.

I went to la Cava a few days ago, with my friends. The food was amazing as always, for starter I had black pudding and for main course penne salmon absolutely delicious. The good thing about this place is that the food is always tasty, and have this especial touch that you can’t find it somewhere else, it’s unique.

Came here with my adult children for a family meal. Excellent service. Excellent food and very reasonably priced. The Irish liquer coffee is delicious! Will visit again and can highly recommend.

We haven't been to La Cava for some years, but seen as we were enjoying a child free evening we thought we would stay local for food. We were not disappointed, the food was very tasty. I had the Brushetta to start and my husband had soup, both were delicious. For mains my husband enjoyed a steak which was cooked perfectly and how he had asked. My pizza was also very very nice.

The food is always so good here, our favourites are the ribs and Caesar salad to start and meatballs and tagietelle cavellero for mains.

On the last minute on Friday evening I rang la Cava for a table for two and asked if they could fit us in, they always oblige.

I love to go to La Cava, food it’s delicious, anything you order is going to be tasty. Never disappointed. I definitely recommend it.

Every body happy! No problems at all and good choice on off peak offer. The children were well catered for. Gluten free also available. Salmon pence especially good.

I like going here as it is close to where we live. The food is always fresh and tasty , however service is always hit and miss. I wish all girls were smily and helpful. But its still one of our favourite restaurants.

Currently sat watching the staff running around looking after their customers, smiling & attentive. It’s been so very busy tonight, yet still feel we received excellent service. This is why I would always recommend this restaurant. Steaks are the best I’ve ever had locally & cooked to perfection.

Had the privelage of goin to La cava this afternoon for lunch with family. What an excellent meal, lovely clean restaurant and lovely friendly staff.could not praise it highly enough, would definately recommend it, lovely food, resonably priced.Excellent service all round been trying to rate it below would not let me so I will rate it 5 stars for all.
