Sophia's in Northampton

I was thinking of visiting this place for some time now, and recently we decided to give it a go. First thing we spotted was, place was very busy. The moment we entered, we were not disappointed. Lovely waitress with an honest smile sat us at a perfect table for a dinner for two. Place was nice and warm, despite the weather outside, which was very windy and cold. We ordered a starter, drink, and a main dish. Our drinks was served promptly, followed by complimentary side dish and a starter. As a starter I tried the baked mushrooms in tomato sauce with cheese. I was blown away with the freshness, seasons and general taste of the dish. It was simply amazing. Main was a Parma pizza for me and again it was cooked to perfection with fresh Parma ham and rocket on top. Throughout our stay we have been treated like VIP's by our waitress, even though the restaurant was full to the last table at all times. I understand why people are visiting Sofia's so much. I can definitely recommend this place if you're looking for an authentic Italian cuisine made to it's best. Best regards to the amazing chef, doing the hard work in the background. Keep up the good work, and don't give up on quality. Thanks to your taste and pursuit of quality we, customers are coming back. I consider this review fair and honest This restaurant was a favourite of mine for years, however having not been here for 4 years following a previous visit after it changed hands, I said then I would never return, and shouldn't have, however after reading reviews we visited last night. Staff were friendly and welcoming, we were upstairs never been seated up there before, it was too bright, lacked atmosphere and too small for amount of tables. The food was poor quality and over cooked. My mushrooms looked dry, old were very over cooked 4 tiny mushrooms for the price was definitely not acceptable. Main course rice clearly cooked earlier and reheated as came out the server in 3 lumps and an over cooked dish of prawns was poor. My husbands steak was very chewy worst blue steak he has had. not worth the 90.00 we paid, this included wine. We will vote with our feet again and never return. Unfortunately the pictures of food and reviews certainly didn't match our expectations.

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The starters were absolutely perfect—the gambas were cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavour, while the calamari was crispy on the outside and tender inside. For the main, I had the salmon, which was incredibly fresh and bursting with flavour. It was cooked just right, with a beautifully crisp skin and tender, flaky meat. The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and professional. The staff was happy to offer recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates great Mediterranean cuisine!

Italian food at it's best with a lot of attention to detail, that's how I would describe our visit. There were four of us for the first time at Sophia's and we were immediately taken by the pleasant service in the sophisticated ambience. The starters were perfectly prepared and also a visual highlight. Balanced flavours, which are so often missing from antipasti, were the focus here. Many thanks to the team for this special piece of Italy. Highly recommended.

A top notch excellent restaurant & one of the best I have been to in this town. Whilst they specialise in Italian cuisine, they have lots of other foodie options available. Drinks are also great and they don't skimp on the quality of the cocktails. Highly recommended! Go there!

Being someone that actually worked in an Italian restaurant and lived in Italy I can assure the authenticity of this place. The food and service were amazing. If you’re looking for amazing authentic Italian food then this is the right place.

This is another restaurant we hadn't been to in a couple of years, so it was about time we visited again. We booked a table and requested a booth. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who seated us down at a booth. Great start. The menu has a really nice selection of all courses and drinks. We ordered a couple of wines whilst perusing the menu and were giving free bread dips whilst we did so, which was a nice touch. We ordered a garlic bread to share as a starter and were going to order a couple of pastas for mains, but we noticed chicken a la creme, which is a favourite we rarely have in the UK. We couldn't resist. The food was fresh, hot, really tasty and generous in portion size. Lovely. We ordered the cheese board for dessert and again a nice size as a lot of restaurants have really reduced this dish in size, if you can actually order it at all. Overall we were really impressed and will be going back. Well done Sophia's.

Visited on Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. Lovely food and cocktails, friendly and helpful staff. Even though it was a busy weekend evening service was excellent, will visit again and recommend 100% ❤️

Always a warm greeting at this lovely little restaurant. Set on two floors, it’s small and cosy with a vibrant atmosphere. Always very busy, so advisable to book well in advance. The food here is always excellent! There’s very few places I’d order steak from, here is one of those places. Steak is always tender and of good quality. The owners are Italian I believe and the dishes are excellently authentic! Staff friendly, helpful and jovial. They seem to enjoy a little banter. Toilets are small & upstairs, so unsure as to whether the restaurant have provision for wheelchair/disabled users! So probably best to check when booking if one of your party have special requirements. Limited street parking at this location, so we like to get a taxi! Love this eatery. So my advice, pick up the phone and book now!!!! Enjoy!!! 😃

This place is one of my favourite places to eat in Northampton! An unforgettable dining experience! The food was out of this world—every bite was better than the last. The staff were so welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Service was flawless, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxed yet refined meal (we ate upstairs as downstairs was fully packed) . It’s rare to find a place that ticks all the boxes like this. Highly recommend and a solid 10/10.

Had an amazing experience at Sophia’s! The ambient was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious – from the appetizers to the main course, every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. Will definitely be returning soon.

We eat here regularly and cannot recommend highly enough. Food is amazing and the welcome is always very warm. Fabulous limoncello.

Lots of Gluten Free options so I was excited, but staff did not have much of a clue. Food was OK, but contaminated tonight, so Coeliacs, stay away!

We visited Sophia's on Fri 27th Sept. The restaurant was a little noisy, mainly due to a large leaving party occupying a large proportion of the restaurant but did not detract from our meal or enjoyment. The food was excellent in its quality, taste, and presentation. We had the goats cheese and gambas to start. Both of us had steak tornado Rossington for the main. Chocolate fondant and tiramisu followed for dessert. The staff were friendly, efficient and ensured the evening flowed nicely despite being busy. We both left fill and content. Would definitely visit again soon.

Sophia's is our favourite restaurant . My husband and I had a wonderful meal there on a Saturday evening . The staff were friendly and attentive as usual and nothing is ever too much trouble for them :) The atmosphere was vibrant and enjoyable , it was almost full . Our meals were absolutely lovely . Disappointed The 4.5 stars that accompany the entry for Sophia's in Northampton is, based upon our experience last night, not a true representation. The four of us were celebrating my son's birthday with what we hoped would be a nice meal. The prices are about mid range so we expected food that would better the pub chains etc and be better presented. The menu was certainly ambitious for a small establishment and I think that is the problem. The food we had was ok (wife's main too salty) but there was no love or perzazz. As such it was overpriced. We will not be returning

A casual, average dining spot in the centre of Northampton. The food is a bit of a mixed bag; we enjoyed the beef and risotto but the pizza felt below par. However, the staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean. It was also relatively good value for money. The decor is a little tired, and it feel like it’s lacking a little love.

Delicious risotto, frozen boxed pizza which was a shame. Very bland. Crème brûlée was not good, more of a mousse. Shame as a nice little restaurant and we would rather go to an independent rather than a chain.

Hadn't visited for a few years, a bit before it changed hands. Very happy to say that it has lost none of its charm and ambiance. Menu was very good, something for everyone. I decided on the T Bone, medium rare, what a chunk, cooked gorgeously, that was followed by the cheese board, again delicious. Over indulged but when it's this nice ... Will definitely return in the near future, perhaps for smaller portions.......maybe

This place is absolutely lovely. I came here for my birthday, and the waitress was so welcoming and enthusiastic about giving us all a good experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the interior was so nice, unique and cosy. Will definitely be coming here again!

What an amazing restaurant. Attended as part of a wedding party (around 50 people) and what an experience. The food was first class and plentiful. Staff were amazing and looked after us all like VIPs. I work in hospitality and this was the best experience I've ever had in a restaurant. Thank you SO much 😍

I was staying with family in Northampton, and having been to Sophia's once before, I was keen to go again. We both had salmon, vegetables and saute potatoes, and it was very nice indeed. The desserts are equally wonderful. The best recommendation I can give the restaurant is to tell you that we decided to go again the following evening!

Customer service - great! Food - exceptional. Been here 3 times now, and I'd be happy to eat here every night. Starts with the complimentary breadsticks and garlic mayonnaise which are delectable, and the salmon! Enormous amounts of the actual fish, not a snivelling little amount like you get in so many restaurants. Vegetables are perfect, and also the chocolate fondant... Can't recommend too highly.

We called in on Friday night , off the reviews on Google. Wow, you weren't wrong , we had an amazing evening, and the food was pretty amazing, too . The staff went above and beyond to help us, and we couldn't praise them enough for attentiveness So we were in Northampton again on the next night , so we went again , same restaurant 2 nights on the trot , Will we return ,of course . It has a very good food range so everyone will be catered for I really can't recommend this restaurant enough . Thank you, Google reviewers out there for recommending this fab restaurant, Bravo

Lasagne was too salty and had far too much cheese taking away the flavour of the sauce. Garlic bread was also too salty

Starter was good my steak was cooked well but the sauce was over reduced and gloopy .

Last time there were issues with delivery but this evening things were perfect. The food was hot and extremely good and tasty. A restaurant experience at home. The salad was exceptional. Thank you. And delivered within 7 minutes of leaving the restaurant.

We came on a quiet Wednesday night. The interior is really sweet, very rustic looking and gives off the Mediterranean feel. Service was great, very attentive. Food was good, we got some homemade bread sticks on the house which were lovely, whitebait for starters as it was on the specials, it was nice and then some garlic bread which was good. For main, we had the salmon linguine which was alright, nothing major and the crab spaghetti which was delicious, I do recommend this dish. Lastly we finished with the tiramisu that was really good, tho would have liked some more of the biscuit/sponge in it. Overall, it was good, will come back.

Very good ambience, family run restaurant with fantastic dishes, Roast Duck with Raspberries and Pears was to die for, Cheesecake Desert was truly delightful. Would recommend thoroughly, great hospitality, great food and well worth the price.

If I could sum up my experience at SOPHIA'S in 2 words.. It was delightful and delicious! I would rate it a 5/5. It was our anniversary and we decided on Sophia's. Fortunately we got the reservation. The staff on phone was polite and booking a table was seamless. Ambience: The very first thing that caught our eyes was the homeliness and beauty of this place. It is so weird that although it wasn't extravagant, but still the feeling of this place was pure Joy. Just the right amount of lighting. Also, the wax candle placed at each table really lights up the mood. There are hand made murals done on the wall which gives a real Mediterranean feel. Please keep in mind that If you want a really quiet place, this surely isn't! Since people get really happy and talk their hearts out. So it was definitely not quiet 😂 Food: Food was delicious. I loved the fact that they have kept a small menu but judging by 4 items we had, they pour their hearts out in those. The Garlic Bread was crusty and the melted cheese on the top was delicious. The Arabiata Pasta and Sea bass were cooked to perfection. A must haves for sure! Service: Although I am not completely sure since I didn't have had the chance to ask, but I am pretty sure that it's family run restaurant. The staff was very attentive and quick when we called or needed something. Food took reasonable time as it would have taken to be cooked freshly. Everyone who was serving was smiling and bursting of joy. It was efficient and with care. Overall, I would say it was a delightfully memorable evening for us and I would blindly recommend this place for anyone to visit and try.

Visiting families in the area and asked them for a recommendation for where to eat on Saturday evening. With Sophia’s getting the most suggestions I went ahead and requested a table online. I got an email back within their confirming my request was booked. We arrived and was greeted with a friendly smile the. shown to our table. Complimentary bread and a wonderful garlic aioli dip We ordered and the food arrive in good time, hot and super delicious. The service was spot on with a limoncello to finish. We will definitely be back when in the area again

What a fabulous restaurant. We were travelling north from Kent so looking for a dinner venue close to our hotel. The website, menu and local reviews persuaded me to book and we are very glad we did as it was very busy with happy, well fed diners. The hosts are brilliant, friendly and efficient with a great sense of humour. They were only beaten by sone truly delicious food with souvlaki, calamari and feta salad as good as any in Greece and a lasagne and chicken dish that my Italian nona would be proud of... I can't post any pictures as we were too busy eating...! Highly recommended

Came for my mother in laws 70th birthday with family. Good tasted good, atmosphere spot on and staff lovely! They did an amazing job and were very attentive to our needs! Will definitely be back! :)

We were in Northampton for a conference and looking for something to eat. Sophia's was a blessed saviour from mediocre chain restaurants! Lovely little independent restaurant that dealt wonderfully with a lot of my colleagues descending onto it at short notice.

We were a group of 14 on a birthday meal just before Xmas. The service was fantastic considering how busy it was. But the food was even better. We had a variety of dishes between us, from steaks to pasta, through to Pizzas etc. Every dish was fantastic and everybody in the group loved their meal. My wife and I are going back next week. Well done to the staff / chef. Don’t change anything, you have everything spot on.

Lovely meal with excellent service. Bridge Street isn’t really where we’d usually choose to go, but this place is great and we’re definitely going to eat here next time we are in Northampton.

We went for an early evening meal. The service was very good and the food was excellent. I had the risotto. It's not a usual choice for me, but I loved it. The restaurant serves a wide choice of Italian food. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

The lasagna was very disappointing. Dry! No bechamel sauce at all. Just pasta , mince and cheese. It’s nothing like the lasagna I’ve eaten in the restaurant.

Nice little restaurant at the bottom of bridge street. We were staying at the Premier inn which is only a 5 minute walk away. The garlic bread and lamb starters were very good. The cod on the specials menu was tasty, however my partner had the prawn dish as a main course, this was not great. The tiramisu dessert was tasteless. Service ok.

It’s important to say this evening was outside the control of the restaurant. The food is usually hot and very tasty. Tonight it arrived as others have said in a terrible state. Everything had leaked and sauce had leaked onto the salad. The cardboard bag was sodden and couldn’t be carried so take care! The food was tepid…..on the tracker the driver took a really long time to get here. Traffic maybe. Food usually good so will order again but will be cautious re dishes with sauce.

Very busy restaurant, not ideal if you're looking a quiet, secluded meal. I can only imagine that the crowded atmosphere is pure popularity. The food is excellent and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Came here with my boyfriend for his birthday, table had birthday decoration which was unexpected and lovely. Service is amazing, we always feel warm, welcome and looked after. Food and wine was beautiful as usual. Dine here as soon as you can.

We visited Sophias to celebrate our friends 38th wedding anniversary on Thursday. The venue is clean and the decor reflects the ambience they are trying to create. We ordered from a very friendly and helpful waitress - 3 of 'Sophias Mushrooms' and one lamb Souvlaki. The food was presented well and tasted lovely - however I would suggest that the quantity of mushrooms be increased by at least a couple as the mushrooms had all long gone while I was still enjoying the Souvlaki. Mains were Steak Diane, Fillet steak, Cod, and the Pork - all cooked to perfection and in quantities that compensated for the smaller starters. Excellent! We all had a desert and the two chocolate mousse was divine, the Creme brulee went down well, the chocolate brownie? is unlikley to be a repeat for the recipient but the cheeseboard ( for two ) was outstanding! Service was good throughout. The only lost star is because we were the only diners in at the time which is a shame as it does reduce the ambience and atmosphere. On a plus side we could all hear each other! We will be back again and hope to see others enjoying the food as well.

We use Sophia's when our team meetings are in Northampton. Food is absolutely quality.. from steak to calzone.. Great service and decent price 👌 All round good place to eat 😋

Driver was very rude - food had split eberywhere

The cyclist was very rude and abusive and simply not cut out for this job he didn't adhere to what was asked by my.note and I've suffered some much pain going downstairs to collect it

An intimidate restaurant with excellent service and good quality and good tasting food. Complimentary breadsticks to start (homemade) and a limoncello shot to finish. Steak and duck breast was delicious. Would throughly recommend.

Came for a family members birthday the other day. The lady that served us was lovely, and very accommodating it was just a shame about some of the food. For me, my filet steak was cooked well, which I opted to have with peppercorn sauce. Pricing is about average, and portion sizes good. Would try again in the future as I wonder if it was just an off day in some areas as some of the flavors/food was good.
