My mum and son visited the restaurant on 6th July. Unfortunately, my mum took unwell and an ambulance had to be called. My son was extremely upset to see his grandma unwell but said the staff were absolutely excellent making my mum comfortable and supporting both him and my mum. They actually closed the restaurant whilst they waited for the ambulance and refused to take any money for the meal they had started eating. I want to say a massive thank you for the kindness shown to my mum and son, it really meant a lot. From what both my mum and son fed back, the staff were outstanding, fetching my mum cushions to make her comfortable and making cups of tea. You are all an absolute credit and so compassionate. Thank you so much.

Sadly the glasses were dirty and waiter was unclean with spillage all over his t-shirt. When asked for table to be cleaned it was brushed over with a dry cloth. Food was fine but similar to other reviews the pricing is really not affordable. Behind Lauriston building I visited Morningside cafe today and was charged over £4 for and it was cold and unpleasant.

The food is absolutely delicious and the service was warm and friendly. The café is clean and inviting. We will definitely be back. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their sourdough sandwiches, scones and buns. It is all baked in-house and is a little bit different (being traditional Swedish food) from the usual café offerings. Really fabulous.

I went for breakfast and was not approached to be offered water or taken my order for 30 minutes - not the server’s fault as there was just one person for the whole restaurant which is ridiculous! Food looked and smelled amazing but unfortunately I could not even try it due to the lack of staff.

Was taken here rather unwillingly, and I was surprised at the exceptionally awful layout of the store. I was the only one wearing a mask, which I have reasons for..and the individual on the till was ill mannered, extremely disinterested and was talking and laughing with another member of staff, everytime I tried to talk, making me feel i was out of place wearing a mask, they were turning their back to me multiple times to talk, laughing with their colleague every time I spoke .which resulted in them not hearing what I was requesting. I can see the staff are rich Edinburgh Uni kids who work there to make a bit of social cash as they couldn't give a F. The coffee was weak and in tiny takeaway cup and very hot..which I like but wasn't warned about. The cake was nothing special. Really awful inattentive service always puts me off a place. I should add I am a highly trained Barista and managed coffee bars/cafés previously. Customer service is vital..I feel this place only does well due to the affluent students as it's in a very convenient location near the Uni. The Uni cafe is much better!! As much as I hate to say this..I'd rather Starbucks was back there as the service was amazing!

Just bought soup from here and a salad ……£8.20. £4.40 for takeaway soup which was nice but nothing spectacular. In my world that’s expensive! Won’t return. Overpriced and under seasoned

Visited for a light lunch but despite an attractive array of cakes and sandwiches we had very little choice (vegan and allergens) …but mainly this cafe was let down by their inflexible menu and overpriced soup! Due to allergies the best (only) option for me was a spelt scone. I didn’t want jam for lunch so asked if it could be served with a little cheese or smoked salmon. The answer was no, even though I was happy to pay extra, they only have enough for sandwiches. There was one vegan option filled roll which my daughter in law ordered with soup but was charged £5.80 for a single bowl of broth plus the sandwich cost. The scone and soup were nice and it a was a good coffee but not enough to take us back …shame really as a wee bit cheese could have turned me into a regular!

I still dream about this place. I crave a place like this in my city. It is pricey but that's Edinburgh for you. Had the Swedish brunch and an almond tart, both perfection and the brunch isn't that bad for value. The brunch is simple but just so delicious. Can get very busy at weekends. The staff were very friendly. Definitely be back!

Everything is lovely and I would give this place an excellent but it is expensive. For example, I bought 4 buns to take away -£10. They were delicious so needs to be for a treat. When sitting in their teas and coffees are excellent. Staff are all friendly and happy to serve. So if you need a treat, it's the place to go.

We went there for an afternoon cuppa. Four adults and two children the eldest of whom had a huge chocolate ice cream cornet. My husband and I had a savoury scone which was large and very nice. We had to wait a little while for a table as it was busy and the service was good.

After a lovely visit for coffee and cake last month, we decided to have lunch here today and chose the soup (leek and potato). It was over cooked and over seasoned, not very pleasant. The cakes though are delicious.

A recent addition to Morningside, it sells plenty of cakes. The cakes are huge. I enjoyed the coffee and there is a wide selection of soft drinks. The decor is clean and modern.

A very Scandinavian atmosphere inside which is great. The breakfast basket consisting of Parma ham, sun dried tomatoes, Edinburgh butter and a selection of breads was lovely as was the Frukostbrika. The Granola was fresh and wholesome. A good selection of scones and buns are also available. Very tasty and worth a visit.

Having spent a LOT of time in Scandinavia, I'm always on the search for the quality coffee and baking you typically only get in Norway and Sweden. Soderberg has been my go to spot in Edinburgh for years, so I'm delighted it's opened a store closer to home. They serve JOHAN & NYSTRÖM coffee, which is just delicious. Like most Scandinavian coffees, I find it is a little lighter than the other stuff you can pick up in other coffee shops, but there is a great depth of flavour and the baristas do a great job of serving it to perfection (I have never, ever had a bad coffee from Soderberg).A black coffee and a Mazarin (or cardamom bun) is the ideal start to my Sunday mornings. Lots of savoury options too if you can see past the tasty cakes/biscuits and pastry. Their bread is delicious, the rye in particular. If you like the coffee shops of Denmark, Sweden or Norway - you'll live this. It's like a Scottish Lakaghuset. Love.

Hurrah - Soderberg arrives in Morningside! It has a great understated Scandinavian vibe going on, just as at other branches around the city. Excellent coffee, sensibly priced. And of course cardamom buns to die for. Be good when a few more tables are added; not always possible to get a seat. Highly recommended.

Absolutely superb Sunday lunch - both the lamb and the beef were melt in the mouth succulent, with all the accompaniments. And under £20 - great value. Superb NewTown pub with great ales and vino.

We’ve been coming here every week for more than two years now so they must be doing something right! Great coffee, delicious sandwiches and home made cakes and friendly and efficient staff. Can particularly recommend the New Yorker sandwich, croque monsieur and the fudge brownies and carrot cake.
